This is such a Fullerton classic. This place really does deserve the hype it gets and I can understand why the line is always so long. I do love the ice cream here, specially the Milk flavor. Before you make fun of me, sometimes you just want something simple and not crazy sweet and that's how I was feeling. I do highly recommend the Horchata flavor as well. What I've been obsessed with recently is their Taiyaki. It's so warm and they put the perfect amount of filling inside of them. Such a great place to eat ice cream and walk around.
Yummy! What a fun spot for some delicious treats! Somisomi is a cute little cafe located in downtown Fullerton. This place is a walk up and order, and stand at a table and eat kind of place. I got lucky and there was no line when I arrived. Awesome, no wait. The employee was very friendly and helpful. He was so patient with me while I asked all of my questions to decide what I wanted. I settled on the cookies and cream flavor inside a custard fish. It was delicious. Such a fun and unique treat!
The flavors are it! Service was quick and it was super busy on a Friday night. Matcha & Horchata was delicious. The horchata was my favorite of the two and tasted pretty on point to an Horchata drink. They did run out of flavors so didn't get to try the seasonal ones I was looking for. It melts pretty fast so I recommend getting the ahboong upside down so it's not a whole mess. Gives you plenty of time to enjoy. They have a few standing tables inside and a few outside to enjoy with friends.
Bottom Line Up Front: Somisomi is a Korean-style dessert and ice cream shop that serves up tasty treats in a fun package. The Background: This store specializes in bungeoppang (a Korean street food that's best described as a waffle-like pastry in the shape of a fish) and ahboong (a fish-shaped waffle cone filled with sweet fillings and topped with soft-serve ice cream). Somisomi also serves a third variation with thr ahboong upside down, meaning the open-mouth fish is the topper on a cup of soft-serve ice cream. My Order: I got two upside down ahboong with soft-serve swirls: 1) banana pudding and horchata and 2) matcha and ube. For the former, I added Biscoff crumbs and Cocoa Pebbles. For the latter, I added just Biscoff crumbs. Both came with a custard-filled ahboong. I loved both for different reasons. The authentic bitter matcha and creamy sweet ube provided a yin-yang balance of Asian flavors. Meanwhile, the banana pudding and horchata swirl also complemented each other nicely in the way that banana rice pudding works. And if course the custard-filled ahboong was delicious. The Service: The employees were quick, friendly, and knowledgeable. The Location: Being in Downtown Fullerton, you can expect difficulty finding nearby parking at peak hours. It's located in the same building as the Cellar. And thanks to a societal shift after the pandemic, there's a lot more vagrants and homeless to contend with in the area. While this particular shop is still safe to visit, it's worth mentioning, since you might have to park a ways away and walk there. The Setting: Once inside, everything is brightly lit and clean with a welcoming and fun atmosphere. I do have to dock some marks though for the lack of tables and chairs, which I suppose is to discourage long hangouts and instead increase traffic flow. There are just slim countertops that you stand in front of. I'm also not a fan of the countertop layout, which is horseshoe shaped that impedes the flow of walk-up traffic to the front register where you order. The awkward setup forces you to squeeze past anyone who's standing at the countertops and results in wasted space. The Conclusion: Despite the poor layout and limited nearby parking spots, the novelty and flavors of the desserts make Somisomi worth the visit. My true rating is 4.5 out of 5, but since I can't give half stars, I'll be generous and round up to 5 out of 5.
We came in on a Sunday night (03/29/26) and it was packed inside but thankfully the line moves pretty quickly. They currently have new flavors. The mint Oreo taiyaki was surprisingly tasty and the Sakura berry in my opinion was tasty. It tastes like cherry and to my friends they found it to taste medicinal. I got the cookies and cream with Sakura berry swirl which sounds like an odd combination but it's amazing together.
Stopped by for some dessert with friends after doing an escape room around the area. We ended up coming here because it was one of the places still open late. I ended up getting a one scoop of the banana pudding flavor, which is limited addition for the season. I ended up cutting the macaron which was included and fruity pebbles to top it off. I also got the box of five yakitori fish! I ended up getting one of each flavor which included black sesame, custard, red bean, Matcha, and cheese. Honestly, everything came out pretty quickly, which was really nice. One thing to know about the ambience is that the inside of the store was super hot and stuffy. So it was nice to sit outside and enjoy our dessert. Overall, everything tasted good and the portion is a lot larger than you would think so. I would definitely share one cup with two people, personally. Can't wait to see what new flavors they have next time. I love that they have a couple Asian flavors like Ube and Matcha, which rotate.
We tried Korean ice cream at Somisomi. My friend has young adult kids who showed her this lovely ice cream place in downtown Fullerton on Harbor Blvd. We were there on a weekday. There was one couple waiting for their ice cream ahead of us. This is not your typical ice cream parlor. Ex explanations were necessary for me to understand what I was ordering. You can get ice cream served several ways. I opted for one scoop ubu in a paper cup with Captain crunch powder and ground black sesame seed inside my waffle cone fish. My friend got chai ice cream with toasted coconut and a strawberry. We were both very happy with our choices. Diana was telling me that she has never been here when there was not a crowd of people. She says mostly young people are here which makes sense considering how close we are to a few colleges. There is outdoor sitting for people watching. And mini cute little stores in this area.
The line was super long to get rung up, and the wait for the food to be made was also long. All the employees were working very hard, so much so that Zoe at the register had to stop taking orders and help making food. The staff was fantastic but they needed one more person or maybe another waffle iron. Zoe was very friendly taking our order and helpful to the other associates. We got the Dubai chocolate taiyaki which had great flavor but I think it needed more of the filling. Maybe it was a little empty and not as aesthetically pleasing because they were rushing.
We got lucky and came in before the rush as there was only 1 person ahead of us! Literally after we ordered the line wrapped around the store to the front door lol. The cashier who took our order was super friendly and patient. No seats, standing room only. I ordered 2 taiyaki but they totally skimped out on the nutella filling compared to the GG location. This one prob put only like a teaspoon and only a small portion was covered in the fish waffle. Bummer. There was a full container of Nutella that was placed next to the waffle maker thing so idk why so little ): Wish I had a photo but I only have a photo of the outside.

OKAY.... I fell in love with this place. Not going to lie we've been here about 3 times a week. Fullerton location is the closest to city of Whittier. I started off if the cookies and cream it's my favorite. I tried the coffee with cookies and cream, but the coffee definitely overpowered the cookie flavor. So, my personal preference just getting one or the other. My kids love MILK and STRAWBERRY, milk is more of there go to favorite. I've tried UBE & Cookies, i feel like the flavor balances out, def not overly sweet. Unfortunately, I can't taste the matcha. I have weird reactions to anything matcha, but I'm sure it's as good as the rest of the flavors. Even on rainy days this place is packed, but staff are super friendly! read more

The ice cream was very good, especially the bread. It was hard to choose from the difference choices but I ended up getting cookies and cream (I think it was called that) The service was good as well, and getting the ice cream was very quick and easy. Love this somi somi location! It's always fast and efficient and I like that there's spacious outdoor seating (on wilshire). Plenty of parking in the lots around downtown, and there lots of shops to peruse while you enjoy your ice cream too :) you can never go wrong with any of their flavors, but my favorite is anything blended with their milk flavor + a Nutella filled bread! read more

Cashier was high and didn't even remember your order, Customer service was rude , the crew members at the toppings station are rude and seems like she hated her job , I had to tell her to put toppings on she didn't even offer, on top of that they were running out of napkins and had no forks . She handed me my ice cream and I had to ask her for a fork , you should restock and clean with downtime no? Place was filthy . Seems like late night crew just doesn't care . If this is still owned by the lady that own Paris Baguette she needs to come in and check on her staffing . They need training or need to be fired ! When I told them my order she rolled her eyes and said they'll help me over there , the other lady slammed my order down rudely . I just did not like the energy in there , so hostile . When I came months ago everyone was so sweet and ice cream was soo good today it was melted so fast , but the fishes are always delish . read more

Came here today during the afternoon for a snack. We had the upside-down ice cream with the taiyaki. I had the Cookies & Cream flavored ice cream with a Nutelle taiyaki. It was good. I wish the ice cream had a stronger flavor and since they keep raising the prices, I don't know that it's worth $6-$7 now. Loved how empty it was because it's only crowded at night, but when it's busy the taiyakis are much fresher. read more

Finally got to try the pink guava ice cream! However, the guava flavor wasn't as strong as I hoped it would be, it was just pretty sweet. The Taiyaki was a bit soggy. The strawberry milk was good but not really anything special and it was really expensive (the bottle is nice though I guess!). I did enjoy the unlimited toppings and the little macaron though! read more

Unique and different way to enjoy dessert Flavor is good and they have cool options for soft serve. Be prepared the Ahboong is good but very messy. Mine started to melt before I even got it. I was then in a rush to eat it because of the fact it was melting fast which lead me to not being able to savor the flavor. The cashier could have provided insight to the menu and suggested the cup with it to alleviate the problem that ensued, instead of merely taking our order. Lots of room for opportunity to create a pleasant guest experience from the staff instead of simply appearing that we were just another customer. read more

Love this place!! I've tried many of the flavors including milk, cookies n cream, matcha, thai tea and black sesame. They always change the flavors so you never get stuck with the same thing which is so great! I also loveee the taiyaki (the fish) with the custard filling! I would get just the fish and custard alone (which i think is possible actually). They also offer free toppings like sprinkles, cookie crumbs, and more! It is a bit pricey but the portions are pretty big. I'd share.. but I never want to lol. It's always too much ice cream for me but I always somehow figure out how to finish it :) read more

We kept our orders pretty simple. Upside Downs: Milk w/ Nutella filling, complementary chocolate shaving & strawberry. Cookies and Cream (my daughter wasn't a fan of this one), ube w/ Nutella filling, lastly plain and simple milk, all with the fish waffle cone. We prefer to get the upside down, to keep the cone from getting soggy. The fish cone is nice and fresh. I ended up buying another one to finish the rest of my ice cream. It's quite a lot of ice cream. If you don't have a big appetite for ice cream, I'd think it would be big enough to share. But for the price, splurge and get your own lol. The texture of the soft serve is perfect! I'm very particular when it comes to textures of ice cream. This has the perfect combination of soft and creamy with a firmness that was very appealing to my family and I. We look forward to coming back! read more
My mind is telling me NO, but my sweetooth is telling me YES! It is Sunday cheat day and I just had an urge for some dessert. I have always wanted to try SomiSomi but didn't like the parking situation in this part of downtown Fullerton. We stopped by in the early evening and the shop was not too busy. The service was quick and friendly. After perusing through the menu, I was excited to see they had milk tea/black sesame on the swirls of the week. I ordered the upside down ah-boong (taiyaki) with my choice of soft serve. The taiyaki is a Japanese goldfish-shaped waffle cone with a filling. The filling choices are custard, nutella, taro, red bean, and cheese. The taiyaki cones are freshly made upon ordering. They have a lightly sweet outer layer and a soft chewy center. I really liked the nutella Taiyaki with the milk tea/black sesame soft serve. You can order the taiyaki with or without the soft serve. But, why would you?! The soft serve is so creamy and smooth. If I didn't have to restrict my sugar intake then I would come here more often. This dessert was delicious and satisfied my cravings! read more

Came in on Saturday and got a matcha soft serve for $3.95. This is a deal considering how most places are $5. They also give a generous amount and include any add on toppings for free. I got a macaron along with some Oreo and matcha sprinkles. You can definitely taste the matcha in the soft serve. It wasn't too sweet and had a creamy texture. The only cons about this place is how there were no actual seatings. They do have area where you can stand and enjoy your dessert but no chairs at all. The courtyard also have seatings but it's mostly packed. Another area is in front of the restaurant which has two chairs. Worried about parking? Street parking or public parking is available. Overall, I would love to come back and try all their other flavors or at least the matcha again. read more
First time at a somi somi chain. This location is a little hidden. It's located within an old building with many other storefronts and restaurants Ordered matcha swirl. Along with the custard fish. Flavor was pretty good. Soft serve texture pretty palatable. On top of that the taiyaki fish was quite tasty Would definitely be back again. 6/5 stars! Been wanting to try this place for awhile and it did not disappoint. It was hard to choose just one item to get because there were so many tasty looking and sounding combinations. Ended up choosing a milk and cookies and cream swirl Ahboong (soft serve with the fish on top) with a Taro filling in the fish. Also added coconut flakes and Oreo dust as toppings (included). All of the flavors were delicious and I loved the consistency and taste of the Taiyaki! Even just the Taiyaki options sounded amazing. We also got a Ube and Matcha swirl in the fish (Red Bean filling) and the flavors were so unique. Absolutely coming back to try more combinations and any new flavors! And just the Taiyaki itself! Do you remember the cartoons where you could actually see the aroma of food (in the form of a hand) luring an unsuspecting character to float in the air towards the food? Well...that unsuspecting character was me the first time I smelled the tempting delicious batter of taiyaki & waffle cones being cooked at SomiSomi! :) Location: This particular location of SomiSomi is tucked away inside the beautiful & historic "Villa Del Sol" plaza on the corner of Harbor & Wilshire Boulevards in downtown Fullerton. Because it is almost hidden, the great thing about this particular location is that (if you time it just right) you can actually get lucky & sometimes avoid the crazy crowds that tend to be typical with of a lot of the SomiSomi locations. Parking can get a bit tricky, but there is a structure (free) around the back on Wilshire Boulevard, as well as lot & limited street parking. Treats: SomiSomi offers a variety of soft-serve ice cream flavours that rotate weekly, including milk, ube (my favourite), milk tea, matcha, chocolate, horchata, cookies 'n cream, swirl options, & more. You can get your ice cream served in a cup for $3.95 or "AhBoong" style (fish-shaped waffle cone stuffed with filling, soft serve, & toppings) for $5.95. I personally prefer the "Upside Down AhBoong" style because the ice cream tends to leak through the cone too much, but either way is delicious. In addition to ice cream, they also serve hot & fresh made-to-order taiyaki (2/$4.00 or 5/$8.00). These taiyaki are crispy-on-the-outside, tender-on-the-inside fish-shaped waffles served either plain or stuffed with yummy-ness like custard, taro, sweet red beans (my favourite), savory cheese, & more. If you haven't tried it, you're really missing out. Simply amazing. We came today for a cold treat. Ordered one matcha soft serve in a cup, one sweet corn soft serve in a cup, a cookies and cream soft serve in a cup, and an ube soft serve in a cup with upside down ahboong (waffle fish cone) with red bean filling. The ahboong was perfectly lightly crispy on the outside and mochi chewy on the inside. Matcha and ube are good go-to flavors for us. Not too sweet, which is how we like it. Cookies and cream was ok. Nothing special. Let me save you the trouble of wondering whether to try the sweet corn flavor soft serve. Don't do it! Yes, it tastes like corn. But somehow, that flavor with a sweet dairy ice cream base didn't work. For us, it didn't sit that well and we even burped up the taste afterwards. This is one of those rotating flavors, so it might not be there when you visit. If it is still available, I recommend passing on it. We asked if we could have a sample taste before we bought it, but Somi Somi doesn't do samples. We're still glad we tried it because it's different, but it's definitely not a flavor we would try again. We couldn't even finish the cup of it we bought. Someone in our family suffers from nut allergies so we appreciate how they label their offerings with a little nut symbol warning when appropriate. I'm not sure why the custard would have nuts, but we stay away from that filling just in case. Maybe they are concerned about cross contamination? Store layout is very simple with just some tall table benches (no where to sit). So buy your treat and go (one table with 2 chairs outside) or stand at one of the tall tables to enjoy your treat in their air conditioned store. It doesn't look like staff regularly wipe the tables so there might be crumbs or whatever from previous guests, but overall it's clean. No public restrooms available inside in case you were wondering. Service was super fast. We just put in the order with one staff member and the other staff member had the order pretty much done by the time we walked those ten steps to the pickup area. read more

SomiSomi is one of my favorite go-to locations for dessert! They serve warm, delicious ah-boongs, otherwise known as taiyakis, and unique flavors for soft serve. You can order the taiyakis by themselves or together with the soft serve (pictured). I personally visit for their upside-down ah-boong concept, which is soft serve in a cup and a taiyaki placed on top. The soft serve is delightfully light and creamy, and features seasonal flavors in addition to standard ones. The taiyaki is customizable to have filling and serves as a balance to the cold soft serve. For reference, my recent order was an order of matcha & pink guava soft serve and a Nutella-filled taiyaki. It was fantastic! Before I forget, after you pick up your order, there are free toppings for your choosing, ranging from fruity pebbles to crumbled Oreos. Go simple or crazy - they won't mind! read more

I love all things that make up SomiSomi. Their soft serves are delicious; their taiyaki is made fresh to order with a crisp exterior & a bouncy, fluffy, mochiko interior, and of course the delicious fillings. The franchises are fairly consistent, I think I've only been to one where my soft serve melted instantly and it would be the time I ordered it in an Ah-boong (the cone), ever since then I've had too much anxiety to just get the Ah-boong, lol. Now I always get the upside down Ah-boong so I can enjoy it and not stress about my soft serve running down my arms. The one thing I absolutely love about this location is the shared, intimate and relaxing courtyard (we stopped by on a Saturday at 1pm, not busy at all) where you can sit and enjoy your SomiSomi haul. I will say though that compared to other franchises this location's taiyaki fillings are more concentrated to the fish body. I've been to other locations where I had filling in a good part of the tail too, but it's not a big deal I'll still eat it lol. I always order a whole bunch of taiyaki and I know it tastes the best when it's fresh, but they still taste pretty good when you pop'em in the toaster the next day! read more
