The taiyaki and ice cream caught my attention. This is located inside the Del Amo Mall at the food court section: 1. Pick your ice cream flavor: milk, matcha, ube (taro), oreo 2. Pick your filling: nutella, custard, red bean, taro 3. Add topping I got the matcha with red bean filling. The matcha ice cream was pretty good, but it wasn't anything special as it tasted more so ordinary. I was kind of disappointed that the "taiyaki" cone was more of a cone, and not the pillowy warm taiyaki that I'm used to. Wow, I was shocked when I had that first bite of matcha ice cream combined with a warm bite of the fish bread. I went light on the toppings and got two cereals and a macaron. Loved it! My husband and I fiinally tried it this Sunday. We had seen the lines form when geabbing lunch earlier in the day. We walked it off and decided to return before 6p. The young man at the register gave us samples and answered our questions. We both choose milk and ube swirl. One with the taro filling inside the "fish cone" the other with red bean. It's not like this place needs more reviews.. Located near the food court at Del Amo Fashion Center this small kiosk attracts crowds of people all day long. First thing I thought when this place got opened how expensive it is - $6 for an ice cream?! But Taiyaki with ice cream on top is such a great and delicious idea! The famous ice cream everyone raves about is a Korean special dessert known as "Ah-Boong". Every piece is unique because you have a chance to create your own Taiyaki treat. A gold fish shaped waffle cone is stuffed with your choice of filling and holds soft serve ice cream. The ice cream is really creamy and rich. I've tried all the styles and flavors and I love everything. My favorite filling is Nutella and favorite ice cream is Ube. Toppings are included in the price. You can choose fresh strawberries, mini macarons, oreo crumbs, coconut flakes, candy sprinkles, fruity pebbles and more. Customer service is always excellent. They encourage you to try different flavors, smile, and always try to help. During my first visit they took the time to explain everything in details in spite of the long line. YAY!! SO excited that SomiSomi is open now at Del Amo! I remember waiting in a long line for it in Ktown at the CGV Mall. Now it's super close to me! FYI it's located in a kiosk near the food court. The line can be pretty long but it moves fast. Their soft serve ice cream is so good! Love their matcha and milk swirl! You can also get free toppings. And it comes on top of a warm fish-shaped bready cone (boong-uh-bbang in Korean) and you can choose the filling that goes inside. I personally like Nutella but you can choose red bean, custard, etc. Super cute and Instagrammable but it melts fast so I like getting mine in a cup with the fish cone upside down. The concept is simple: soft-serve ice cream served in taiyaki (bungeo-ppang). If only I came up with this idea earlier. The Torrance location is located near the Food Court inside the Del Amo Fashion Center. It's a small kiosk between Ginza Grill and Gengis Khan. There's large windows so you can see the workers in action, making the taiyaki. The wait wasn't too bad, there was a crowd but most of the people were there to watch. First, you choose an ice cream flavor. There's milk, matcha, chocolate, ube, oreo, strawberry, black sesame, and horchata. You can also get two flavor swirls, which change depending on the week. The taiyaki can be filled with red bean, nutella, custard, or taro. When they call you, you can also add toppings like sprinkles. Prices are pretty high, expect to pay a little less than $6 for everything. Overall, it was decently delicious. I liked how warm and fresh the taiyaki tasted, and the soft serve was good as well. Comparing all the cold dessert places at the mall (Coldstone, Frostbites, Honeymee, Popbar, Sweetosaur), SomiSomi would definitely be considered one of the best. read more

So glad my boyfriend and I hauled our booty through the mall to make it before closing at 9. The workers were extremely nice, though we felt super bad we got there literally 10 mins before closing. A friend told me about this shop so I looked it up on Yelp. I've seen them in the mall before but have never tired anything. I Googled & Yelped the scheduled closing time which said 7:00pm. At 6:20pm I called the Del Amo SomiSomi location to check the exact location and hours. The young man on the phone told me the kiosk location and confirmed 7:00pm was the closing time. I arrived at 6:40 pm enough time before closing and was told they were closed. At this point I'm upset because I drove all the way there. The same young man I spoke to said they were closed. I told him I called before driving here he told me they were open til 7:00pm he blamed it on a co-worker. Clearly it was him, the voice was the same and there was no co-worker in site. I told him Google and Yelp have the closing time at 7:00pm. The young said its not true and it needs to be corrected. This was a first time experience visiting this company! I don't know if I'd return to see what the hype is about! I didn't like the customer service I received! Anyone working at a company should know what time they close. read more

I was super excited to hear that Somi Somi was opening up at the mall right by my house. Before that, the closest one was in Koreatown in LA, so I was super excited not to make that drive for it. The cashier was super nice and very helpful because and our ice cream came out very quickly. I got the matcha swirl and my sister got the taro. Both of them were very delicious. We also got red bean filling which is delicious. Something about the warm taiyaki and cold ice cream is an amazing combination. Now, some might suggest that my review of this establishment is - at least embellished and at worst completely tainted by - the beneficial satisfaction of a late-nite craving. Fair enough. So to allow me to complete this digression, suffice to say that IF you are having a post-11 p.m. craving for delicious, comforting, smooth, and organoleptically-ecstatic soft-serve ice cream, this review would be wholly applicable to your interests. The slightly energetic yet hanging-loose-and-chilling vibe of the 16 or so young adults outside the establishment entrance was a solid indicator that it was a well-supported part of the local scene. Sure, maybe Bixby Knolls isn't Hollywood Boulevard, but to have a quiet-yet-lively soft-serve oasis in a really safe and laid-back neighborhood has it's merits as well! The real surprise was that the entire crowd had already acquired their delights for the night and were simply enjoying their sweets as well as the mellow energy of the gathering. My 'Better-Half' and I strode through the open doors into am impeccably spotless, could-eat-off-the-floor (it's a metaphor; NOT a requirement!), 'next please' spot in line, 'Welcome, what would you like?' was amiably chanted by the obviously-smiling but N-95 masked young lady behind the counter. It was most certainly a chocolate/strawberry swirl sprinkled with toasted coconut type of evening for me and for good measure, I had the upside-down version, which was exquisite, in spite of it kind of resembling a fish regurgitating a mound of ice cream into a cup. Now, if you think about it for just a second, unicorns farting rainbows is kind of cute, so I preferred to look at it from the same whimsical point of view! Look, just take a gaze at the SomiSomi AH-BOONG (upside down) and you'll see, it's perfectly appetizing! OF COURSE the quality of the ice cream was exceptional! The TAIYAKI (as they describe is a warm fish-shaped [soft] waffle filled with choice of filling) was truly superior to the traditional crispy waffle cone/bowl and in the end, while the true craving had been abundantly satiated, ONLY the reading of my post-prandial glucometer results would stop me from an immediate follow-up indulgence. Then again, there is always tomorrow AND I can increase the medication...you know, just this one time... Yes, I will absolutely make this a primary choice for my soft-serve needs! I got the ube flavor & I was so mindblown. Ube is a million times better than the matcha flavor! This is going to be my go to flavor for everything now! I enjoyed both the swirl and the taiyaki, but I definitely would want to get them separately next time. The taiyaki waffle cone; I got the custard filling, but I wish I ordered the whole piece of taiyaki with custard!! It was so good! The soft serve was amazing too, but I think it's better to order the two separately, so that you can really enjoy the full sized filling in the taiyaki. It seems to me that they put ube coloring but not ube flavor. The taro filling was good. I also ordered the ube matcha swirl in a cup. The matcha flavor was spot on so that was good but ube flavor was a let down. The free fish waffle filled with custard was fresh and hot, crispy on the outside but again no flavor in the custard. This place does not sell ice cream as some reviewers led me to believe. They sell soft serve. Overall, fast service but a big disappointment in the ube flavor.
