Their filled taiyakis are made to order and, aside from the cheddar cheese filling, are generously filled. I do highly suggest the cheddar cheese filling as a savory counterpoint to the other available fillings or to their soft serve ice cream. Speaking of their soft serve ice cream, you can get it by itself or with a fish shaped cone. The cone is particularly whimsical as it looks like a fish eating ice cream. Either with the cone or on its own in a cup, the soft serve ice cream can be topped with a wide selection of cereal and cookie crumbles, along with a strawberry and a macaron, all included with the price. If you're fortunate enough to visit when they're serving black sesame flavored soft serve ice cream, it's definitely worth a try. It's one of the few opportunities to get this unique nutty flavor. The taiyaki is premade and hollow and they add the filling based on your ask. It didn't have the crunch since it's been sitting but it was soft and nicely chewy. Overall, it was extremely sweet and we could only finish about half of the ice cream before it became overwhelming. Ambience: N/A - in the mall food court. The counter is neat with nice design Service: 5/5 - quick and polite at the counter. The girl who made our order was efficient and patient as we decided which toppings to add Value for price: 5/5 - about $6 for the ice cream and taiyaki. Saw this place in the mall and really wanted a fish pancake with ice cream in it. But they ran out of the giant fish waffle cones, so I had to settle for the upside down one instead. I got the Ube+Matcha upside down swirl with custard Ah-Boong. You can get unlimited toppings on it, so I went hog wild with Fruity pebbles, graham cracker crumbs, chocolate sprinkles, cotton candy dust, and a macaron on top. The ice cream was creamy, the custard was on point and delish. I thought the fish dough was underdone and slightly liquidy... until it set a bit and I realized that it was actually a mochi dough! Oo la la!! So Q and yummy! Also got the 5pc Taiyaki to try all the flavors: cheddar cheese, Nutella, taro, custard, red bean + cream cheese. The cheddar cheese tasted just like a scrumptious grilled cheese sandwich. Hot custard was a bit weird at first. The taro paste was thick and oozy, almost like if it had a mochi texture itself. The taiyaki dough also looked a bit underdone at first, but then I realized it had the same mochi filling/texture. Sooo good!!! Being a newb, I didn't want to hold up the line, but the cashier is friendly & the epitome of efficiency so I was able to put my order in & pay right away. With a Yelp check-in, you're rewarded with a CUSTARD TAIYAKI, & I added an OREO AH-BOONG with NUTELLA filling & topped with DEHYDRATED COTTON CANDY & MACAROON. The SomiSomi operation is crowded with employees, & are masters of the assembly line. Everyone knew their job while supporting each other with awesome communication. It was impressive to watch! With more than a dozen customers ahead, I barely had time to put away my receipt & watch the assembly process before my name was called. :-O The ah-boong (aka fish cone) was crisp & generously coated with Nutella (a fav spread of the kiddos), & beautifully filled with smooth & creamy Oreo ice cream. H & M loved the crunchy dehydrated cotton candy. =) I'm not sure how the macaroon tasted, but M gobbles it up in 1 bite. The cone was a perfect share for my kids, though I'm sure they could eat more. I LOVE SOMISOMI! This location isn't a store, but a kiosk near the food court, right in front of the VANS in Del Amo. It is easily place, so you can't miss it. I am super sad that they got rid of the taro soft serve. But I am so glad they still have the taro taiyaki feeling. The taro is my absolute favorite, it is so creamy, mildly sweet, just so good! You can get two taiyaki for $4, it is honestly a steal! If you can eat five, it's only $8!!! Honestly, one or two or he gets me pretty full. They are super generous with the filling, so she usually pretty sweet. If you're going to get five, I recommend splitting it with someone else or a few people. WARNING! Taiyaki filling is usually SUPER HOT. I would give it a few minutes before taking a bite. I am honestly waiting for mine to cool now as. I type this review! You can get the soft serve for $4 by itself. If you want it with the fish, it is $6. That is super filling, such a worth dessert! Highly recommend! This review is long overdue, but overall I've been so happy that SomiSomi finally came to Torrance. Unfortunately, it's in the one of the busiest locations in Del Amo so there's always a line, but good/fast service makes up for it. My favorite ah boong combination is the milk/oreo swirl with custard. The ice cream is always smooth and creamy and is so tasty when combined with the taiyaki. I'd highly recommend trying this spot if you pass by - it's definitely worth it. read more

For those who've followed along my Yelp journey through the yers; it's not an unknown secret that I'm not too into seafood. However now I think I've finally found my match as far as the seafood game is concerned....because of SomiSomi! Yup, the cute little fish shaped cones have won my heart ;). Alright so Somi Somi is not actually a seafood place; instead it is a dessert spot that specialize is Korean ah-boong (soft serve ice cream in gold fish waffle cones) and Japanese Taiyaki (gold fish cake with filling). The Somi Somi just opened up at Del Amo this last Friday and they currently have a special of buy an ah-boong and get a taiyaki free. I had the chance to try the ah-boong with ube and oreo soft serve and found the ice cream to be delightfully creamy (though I really couldn't taste much ube or oreo.) The real winner however was the Taiyaki. They make these fresh when you order and it was perfectly warm. I love the soft texture and sweet filling. This is a great spot for dessert after eating at the food court. It is located right across the Miniso and Gengis Khan. This is my kinda seafood! read more

Cute ice cream/taiyaki place near the Del Amo mall food court. There was a long line! Individual taiyaki with the filling looked rather small but they have a special mold for a cone shaped taiyaki. It's again rather small but serves the purpose. The cashier recommended the upside down one in a cup for easy mobility. Matcha milk swirl was good! The taste of matcha was not too artificial or cheap. The free toppings are cute but not that tasty for my choice of ice cream. It's still nice they offer a sliced fresh strawberry. The taro filling was not that great. A bit too soupy and there wasn't much. Overall options cover popular Asian sweet flavors so it's good but the whole options were not interesting enough for me to plan another trip. So this is my story: I was in line and I heard someone say you can order an upside down fish. So when I was at the counter I told her I wanted it upside down, not knowing exactly what that meant. So when I got my ice cream, I found out upside down meant ice cream in a cup with a fish on top. (See my picture). SomiSomi is another reason I'm not venturing far from home when I'm search of good eats. It's basically a kiosk located near the edge of the food court. The servers were super patient since it was me and my friend's first time there. I ordered the ah boong with ube soft serve and red bean feeling in the cone. The waffle cone was nice and warm so make sure to eat the ice cream fast because it does start melting. I opted for the macaron topping which was a cute little macaron on top. The ube was delicious. My friend got their daily swirl special of ube and matcha and the matcha was also really good. My friend also ordered taiyaki with every filling. It's basically a Japanese pancake like cake shaped as a fish stuffed with which ever filling you wanted. I tried the red bean and cream cheese and I love the savoriness of the warm cream cheese paired with the sweetness of the red bean. Went here for the first time yesterday and I have to say I wish I would have known about this place sooner. I'll start off by mentioning that I'm currently going through a "I am an Ube Guy" phase. So when I found out they had Ube flavored ice cream I got excited. The thing I was not expecting was the waffle cone in the shape of a fish that was stuffed with Nutella. It was a marriage of delicious soft served sweetness. This ice cream has to be enjoyed with the ups side down cone. The only reason I didn't give this place five stars is because the guy who took our order was pretty rude and also forgot that I ordered a swirl of Ube and Milk tea. Located inside the Del Amo mall near the main food court next to Sketchers, it's hard to miss a stand with cooling fish cones for all to see. There are two kinds of things they serve: Ah-boong and taiyaki. I went for the Ah-bhoong because I'd never had it before and I wanted something cold. Ah-bhoong is a fish shaped waffle cone and I went for the nutella filling with ube and oreo flavor. You also get your choice of toppings so I opted for the fruity pebbles and crushed oreos. You really have to pick your flavors, but be adventurous and try something new. I liked the flavors I got, but others may not. The ice cream itself is creamy and flavorful and nothing like iced milk. You can even ask for samples to try. My suggestion to the owner is to put labels on those toppings. Couldn't tell what I was getting at times. I'm so glad SomiSomi finally opened back up after a really long time! Their deserts are amazing--the ice cream is super creamy and delicious and the taiykai is crunchy on the outside but chewy! They alternate flavors I believe on a weekly basis and last week they had their matcha vanilla swirl. I always get the Nutella filling which is delicious You can also add a bunch of toppings of choice. I definitely recommend Somi Somi for a dessert fix! read more

I'm so happy SomiSomi has come to Torrance!!! I tried it once in Irvine and fell in love, but it is just too far to get as often as I'd like. First of all, this location is a small kiosk type set-up right before you reach the food court for the main portion of the mall. It's right in front of Miniso. The workers were very friendly and let us sample all the soft serve we wanted! I wanted to try both of the swirl combinations (Milk&Matcha and Ube&oreo). I love both, but opted for the Ube&oreo. We got ours "ah-boong" style so basically in a cup, with a taiyaki (hallow fish shaped cake) ontop so it's less messy. You get a few customization after that: you can choose up to 3 toppings for your soft serve as well as the filling for your taiyaki. We got nutella, yum! It was $6 and so, so, so yummy. Ice cream is smooth and super flavorful. Can't wait to go again! read more

We still go to this place once in a while, unlike before. They have changed. The soft ice cream is still the same but the customer service is becoming poor. One guy would insist that they never put two strawberries or macaron as if he knew the store very well just to fine out that he is the one new to the store. If a customer says how it was before, just be polite to inform us that the store made changes which is understandable. The topping are lesser but the price went higher. It should be one or the other. Their taiyaki is undercooked. read more
