Today I went to the Sonic over near Corporate Parkway. My biggest grievance is the location, because it's easier to see from 280 than to get to from 280. If you get it, you get it. Anyways, I placed a mobile order at about 2:45, and the app said it would be ready around 2:50. I pulled into the classic Sonic drive-up stalls at about 2:51, then after checking in, my food was out to me in less than 3 minutes. The employee who dropped off the food was polite and efficient. I ordered the chili-cheese coney (Hot dog), a small side of tater tots, and a small strawberry cheesecake cream cooler--all totaling just under $11. Also, they threw a handful of mints in the bag, which I was pleasantly surprised by! The tots were quite crispy-- they were not hot, but just kinda warm. I liked them for the most part. The strawberry cheesecake cream cooler was tasty: it had strawberry puree, a slushy mix, crumbly bits to mimic a cheesecake crust, and ice cream. Very good, the small was the perfect size. Finally, to the main feature, the chili cheese coney. First, the packaging is as follows--the hot dog sits in a little paper boat, then the whole thing is slid into a foil-like sleeve with a cellophane window on top to show you the goods (I've attached a picture pulled from Google--I didn't take a picture myself). My problem with the packaging is that (1) the toppings (chili, cheese) get stuck to the cellophane window, so when you are sliding the boat out, you are most likely going to lose a third of the quintessential ingredients. You can like....scrape it off or squeeze it out, but that's just kind of tedious when you know they probably could have put the dog in a clamshell-type package to preserve the toppings. (2) The hot dog bun sticks to the paper boat and gets a little extra messy when you try to pick it up. By the time I was done squeezing out the stuck toppings and prying out the hot dog, it had cooled to pretty much lukewarm... The chili cheese coney itself was not that bad-- the chili is kind of just ground beef and chili-like sauce, and that's it. The cheese is kind of like a nice nacho-like cheese. The hot dog is a standard hot dog + bun. Overall, these things blended together into a pretty average, cheap chili-cheese dog. It wasn't bad, it wasn't very good, just pretty okay. Very much a "pay for what you get" scenario. Overall, Sonic is a great, cheap & quick option, but don't expect $30 food when you pay $10. It's nothing exceptional, but nothing terrible. read more

The service is definitely what'd you'd expect at any fast food restaurant and I should've asked for more marinara sauce cause I finished it too quick. The Sonic Drive-In on Meadowview Drive, right off of Highway 280 in Birmingham is a convenient and reliable spot. This time, I ordered it through DoorDash, which made the experience even easier. Even though I didn't dine in, the food still arrived warm and well-packaged. In the past, visiting this location, I have seen it has a nostalgic, laid-back Sonic vibe, especially in the evenings. The wait time through DoorDash was not bad, and my order was prepared quickly. Everything was accurate and neatly sealed, which I appreciated. The chili cheese coney that I ordered was satisfying. It had a nice snap, the bun was soft, and the chili was hearty. The cheese was also melted perfectly. Although I didn't interact with the staff directly, the order was correct and prepared well, reflecting good attention to detail from this location and its workers. The last couple of trips to this sonic have been so upsetting. This time I picked it up, and they put my French toast sticks upside down and somehow the syrup busted all over the bag before they even handed it to me. It was all over every item of food. They said they would remake it and just put a new bag of French toast sticks in there and left everything else so now everything has maple syrup on it. I also got a cherry limeade to drink and it just tastes like sprite. There are no limes in it. read more

Ambience was awesome! Great music, decor, very clean! Sat down on the outside seating and ate. Service was great, good interaction and timely response, always responded when we needed something! Food was mid-tier, average for Sonic, but the tots were great. read more

Sonic has been a favorite of mine for a long time. I tried something new this time and it was the chili cheese dog. I placed the order online and set my pickup time so it would not get old. When I got there my order was brought out very quickly with a very nice worker. My only complaint is how the chili cheese dog was packaged, the sleeve that they put it in completely rubbed off the toppings and there were no napkins in my bag, which was not ideal as for the hot dog was very messy. It was very good though and tasted like it was just cooked. It has been a long time since I had a hot dog, and it was enjoyable. Probably won't be a go to order but it was still good. read more

The buns are often extremely soft, as are the juicy beef hot dogs. But sometimes these qualities linger on the location, finding themselves undercooked or unappetizingly warm. Horrible food experience. I asked for no pickles, I was served pickles. Fries tasted like cardboard and found hair in my drink. Whoever was working on 4/16/2024 at the drive through around 6pm needs to be fired as well as the cooks. Will never be coming here again. This is the brand new Sonic on highway 280 and I finally had a chance to check it out. I'm a big fan of Sonic, so I've been waiting for this new location to open! They have 2 drive thru lanes and about 15 stalls. I ordered at a stall and got a hotdog, tots, and french toast sticks. The wait time for the food was less than 10 minutes and the food was hot and good. The employee that took my order and brought me the food was very nice and positive. This and the cleanliness added to the ambiance. This location is built differently than other Sonics in Birmingham, with a modern and colorful look to the building. I didn't notice any social distancing protocols, but social distancing is easy to achieve at Sonic, with customers only being able to use the drive thrus and stalls to order. read more

The service was slow, when I received my order and went home, 7 minutes later, cold hamburger and the fries were cold and stale, not one fry was soft, hard and stale. I stopped at the new sonic on 280 and it is super clean! I didn't notice any COVID restrictions however them offering the order yourself stalls help ! I did have to wait a bit in the drive thru for an employee to greet us however it was later in the day and I don't think many people were working. I got a number 6 (it's a hot dog meal) with only ketchup with fries and a Dr Pepper everything was nice and hot! Also after I placed my order it didn't take long to actually get my food and the lady at the window was very nice! Would recommend this location! read more

I visited Sonic this past weekend for a hot dog. When I seen hotdog for this weeks module I immediately knew where I was going to get one from. I went to the new one on HWY 280 since I live nearby. It was super nice and the service was amazing and quick. Although they close at 9pm and I got my food around 8:30pm the food was still super fresh. I ordered the 6in chili cheese coney meal with chili cheese tots and a large strawberry slush. My meal came up to be around $8. For the meal I would definitely spend $8 a few times a week. Everything I asked for was in the bag. I did not really see any Covid-19 protocols, none of the employees I had seen had on masks. I only seen 2 of them because I went through the drive thru. I frequent this location because I live close by and usually have a good experience. However, this time, I asked for extra toppings on my blast and did not receive them. This was after waiting longer than the usual amount of time. There weren't many cars at the location and there seemed to be plenty of employees at work. Also, the cup holding my blast was extremely overfilled which led to the top bursting open. This created a mess in my cup holder that was a pain to clean. read more

For Friday's lunch break, my boyfriend and I decided on chili cheese hotdogs. We live near Highway 280, so we decided to try the newly opened sonic located on Highway 280. We ordered 2 chili cheese hotdogs, tots, mozzarella sticks, and a peach sprite from the drive thru. The total came out to a little under $15, and quite frankly I am not sure it was worth it. The customer service was amazing, the workers were friendly when taking our order, and friendly when we were at the window. As expected the workers didn't seem to be taking any COVID 19 precautions like masks, most restaurant are not these days. Although the workers were pleasant, we waited at the window for 10 minutes. While at the window, workers took 3 different cars that arrived after us their food. Once the food finally came, it was correct, and the workers apologized for the wait. When we opened our food up at home, we noticed black char looking pieces (more than likely from the grill) on top of the chili. Everything besides the hotdogs were a 10/10 (wish we would have noticed the black pieces at the restaurant). I took a few bites from the hot dog where the black pieces were not and decided not to finish the rest. This wasn't the best Sonic experience. Overall this location has great customer service from the workers, but efficiency and food quality could be improved. read more
