I went to this Sonic at 1:30pm today because it's hot and I thought a Slush might be a nice way to cool off. They have Happy Hour from 2pm - 4pm (drinks are half price) so I went early to avoid the crowds. The drive-thru was very busy but the cars seemed to be moving along quite efficiently. I pulled in to one of the parking spaces and pressed the red button to place my order. While I was waiting to make my order someone pulled in beside me. Someone answered my buzzer and took my order; a drink, a slush- nothing fancy, a small order of popcorn chicken and a small order of mozzarella cheese sticks. Nothing complicated or special-order, all regular menu items. The car that pulled in after me placed their order about a minute later. By now the drive-through had emptied and been filled several times over. The cars seemed to be getting their order within about 4 - 6 minutes. There was a steady stream of drive-thru traffic with very few pauses in between. Meanwhile we waited....and waited and waited and waited. It was pretty damned warm and the spit in my mouth was turning to glue (sorry for the TMI but it was really warm and I was really thirsty.) The people next to me got their order and went on their way while waited some more. At 1:49pm I pressed the buzzer again to ask how much longer it would take. No one answered and we waited some more. By 1:57pm I'd had enough and we left to get Slurpees at 7-Eleven. Very disappointing. read more

Ah, the snarkiness of Employee #29...you have prompted me to get a Yelp account! I am a regular at Sonic, usually during Happy Hour where I unabashedly take my toddler out for drinks. When I cruise through the drive-thru, I know to leave a little space as sometimes the car hops bring out your order before the people in front of you if your order is quick & simple. Mine was, but I needed change. Emp #29 was soooo disturbed that I wished for my change to be returned to me, that she gave it to me in PENNIES! Rude! She spoke to me in an ultra condescending, HFCS voice, "And have a wonderful day!" I go there so often I can give them an accuracy ratio of 20%. My order is correct only 1 out of 5x. I have been overcharged, lied to, given the wrong items and now disrespected. I had the most awful time at the one in Palm Desert that I even contacted their corporate offices to demand someone be fired. That was the 1st time I had ever asked for that...Emp #29 is tempting me... So why do I go you ask? I do it for the boy... Oh, yeah...I had a Lemon-berry slush (which is strawberry & lemon). i love sonic. thats why it is two stars. this location deserves a one star though. so i planned my adventure down to santee from escondido because finally a more convenient location in san diego. well not that convenient. driving east on the 52 leads straight to the boonies. when i drove up from mission gorge it was blocked off so i was driving and there is a staging area where you have to wait to actually get in. its cool. i drove all the way down there for burgers, i don't mind waiting a little longer. well i decided just to go to the drive-thru and not wait in the stall. i ordered a lot of food that i knew i wouldn't be able to finish but i ordered it anyways. well when you are at a drive-thru you expect everything to be in the bags and to drive off. well they handed the drinks and then we realized there were no straws. grrreattt.... and then i was checking the bags and i ordered chili cheese tots and they weren't in the bags. made me pissed off and i didn't want to drive back there to complain. i got the supersonic cheeseburger and i loved it. sooo good. i've had better service at other sonic drive-in's but i know i would probably come back here since it is in san diego. it is still brand new and the customer service should improve hopefully. read more

The commercials have definitely persuaded me to come here. My first impression of this place was that the parking lot is full of cars. There were two options either do the drive thru or actually park and wait for a person on roller blades to bring you food. I wanted the full experience so I stuck with parking and waiting to see the cool tricks the employees can do on roller blades. I ordered the onion rings, don't get your hopes up on these. They had a sweet taste to them with not enough crunch like other onion rings. The chicken strips are crunchy and are great with the ranch dressing. They have happy hour which makes drinks half off! I got a watermelon slushie, I would definitely order it again. There was so much flavor and it was refreshing on such a hot day. There are snacks that are 99 cents during happy hour also. Make sure they get your order correct! I ordered the 99 cent onion rings but they charged me for a normal order which was $2.49! Not the best when you charged on a card. read more

Worst Sonic I have ever EVER been through. Pulled up to a car stall, pressed the button. Girl gets on the speaker and says "I'm sorry I'm currently unable to take orders for the next 10 minutes because we are busy" so I sit and I wait. Meanwhile all the other cars are putting in their orders. Seriously? Their credit card machines in the car stall were not working. I pressed the button again and it stayed lit up until the car hop brought the food to the card. I told him I was trying to pay with the card. He then said the machines had gone down. He was actually going to bring the food back inside for a few minutes until the machines came back up. Luckily I had cash and just gave him the cash, but still it pissed me off and left a bad taste in my mouth. You have been warned. If this particular location happens to be busy, just drive on. They do not know how to multitask, they do not know how to work efficiently when it's busy. read more

I usually love going to Sonic's. Plain and simple. But this particular location changed that in a matter of 47 minutes. Now I understand that when it's busy, it's loud. Customers outside sitting at he tables often cause a medium buzz of background noise. And that's fine. But when it's too loud to be heard by the person taking my order, it's annoying. And when the people being particularly boisterous and obnoxious are EMPLOYEES? Unacceptable. Absolutely unacceptable. Firstly, why are you outside making such a commotion, cursing in front of families, and being generally profane? Have you no sense of professionalism? Moving past that, we waited a solid 32 minutes for THREE shakes. Three. Why does it take 32 minute for three shakes? Oh wait, whoops, they got our order wrong and added two more shakes to that. On top of that, they got our order WRONG thanks to their rudely loud employees jerking around right outside our car. They charged us for FIVE shakes instead of three. And they delivered anything BUT our correct order. I've worked in the service industry for four years. I understand that sometimes things get hectic. Sometimes you goof off. You can't always be perfect. But shouting profanities in a family oriented eatery, disrupting the ordering process with said profanity, and causing order mishaps/mistakes with all of the above is undeniably unacceptable by anyone's standards. I'm fairly certain that this will be my last visit to this location so long as they continue to employ the immature children I saw goofing off on the clock tonight. I love Sonic's! I usually get the chicken strip meal with tots, bbq sauce and a large cherry slush. Sometimes, instead of the strips, I get the supersonic double cheeseburger with no onions. I don't think that either order is too complicated, but most fast food places get my orders wrong. Sonic's however, I've never had an issue with driving off before checking the contents within my bag. Sonic's also has a wide variety of flavors. I remember ordering from a different location a slush with at least 5 flavors and it was still yummalicious! They also give a handful of mints if you ask for it! read more

So... my boyfriend and I heard that a new Sonic opened up in Santee and we decided to give it a try. Mind you there is one in El Centro and we ususally hit it up on the way home from Glamis/ the desert. The one in El Centro has the stall, drive thru, and is in a huge parking lot for a grocery store or Target..I forget! Anyways, we drove down Mission Gorge Road to figure out that we could not pull into the parking area from the street but had to drive around to this ghetto side street and get in a 14 car, 2 care wide line to go through the drive thru or sick in on of the stalls. Mine you, we are hungry and just want to get food and bail. We tried parking about a quarter mile down the street and walking but then this owner/ parking attendant told us we had to move because the staging line would get back to us. We both rolled our eyes and were like " we just want to get food to go, we don't want the drive thru or to waste our time in a stall." He told us to park in the storage parking lot across the street and walk to the front of the building and we would have food within 3 minutes. We parked closer, walked in to realize that there is no inside seating or ordering area. You have to walk up to a billboard menu and press a button to interact with someone inside. The guy in front of us was yelling into the board with profund language because the employee on the other end could not understand his name "Arron" which was said at least 4 -6 times. Once we ordered our food a girl not long after came out with our order on her roller skates. Short story is we got our food, left, and vowed never to go back to the Sonic in Santee because it is the biggest cluster ****** I have ever seen of a Sonic. read more

I ate here about 2 weeks ago. The food was very good. The cashier was quick to come out and give us our order. The only negative was he forgot to give us napkins. Grrrr. I haven't eaten at a Sonics in many years. I really enjoyed the burger we had. My Fiance was amazed because this was her first time trying it. Thank God I'm not new to the Sonic hype - having lived in Dallas a few years I've done some "in-car dining" myself. Then I moved to the East County and I hear about Sonic opening up in Santee, and everyone's going gaga over this joint. But I have to admit, I got pretty excited myself, hehe. I remember checking it out about a month after it opened, and the line had to extend to the road in the back. Crazy. Every once in a while my nieces make me drive them there when they get a burger craving. I remember back in Dallas (four years ago) the stalls didn't have those credit card contraptions - but now they do, so that's a lovely convenience. And I love the Sonic value menu, especially the Chicken Strip sandwich. For .99 cents, it can't be beat! And it looks like they use all white meat on those strips. Very yummy. Those drinks and malt shakes also make me feel like a kid again! And it's also cute how the servers are all on rollerskates! But I wish they were open later. read more

Our drinks were correct but in the bag was nothing we had ordered. so i press the button to tell them and i waited about 2-3 minutes for someone to answer. and when i told her what happened she asked me to repeat my order so i did, then she put up the first 2 things i said and then that was that. Came back around 5 ish minutes later to also tell me they were out of cheese for the pretzel. If I could give this place a 0, I would. I like the food, especially the tots. Not many places have tots and that is one of my favorite things about coming to Sonic. This is the third time we've been there where they have "lost" my order. We pulled into the parking spot about 8:20 this evening. We ordered two small shakes. After 25 minutes and watching several other cars come and go, I asked where my shakes were. The order taker had no clue where they were. We reordered the shakes and he said they would be right out. After waiting another 12 minutes, we left not seeing anyone coming out or even bothering to check on us. I am so upset this place, I doubt I will ever return. The burgers aren't the best, but as I've read plenty of times from Jasmin O's reviews, it's not about the burgers but more so the endless drink combinations or toaster sandwiches. With that being said, I don't drink soda or anything else really other than water, iced tea, and juice. So that's a "no go" on the Sonic drinks. The toaster sandwiches were good but could be better. The tots are good as well, but I wouldn't go out of my way to drive to Sonic for them. I'd rather drive down the street to Ralph's and buy a bag of Ore-ida Tater Tots instead :) Staff was great.. several car hoppers came by a few times to make sure we had everything we needed. Never had that kind of customer service at any of the other Sonics I've been to. So maybe I'll bump up this review half a star.. read more

First of all, Nick or Nicholas whatever his name is was extremely rude from the start when he took my order. Then the long wait in the drive thru. after about 20 minutes I finally get tot he window. Nick once again being rude then he gives me my receipt and I point out there should be one more blast on there. In an annoyed tone he goes "wht blast" so I tell him and he slams the window and goes off and gets some other guy. He starts talking shit about me! Just because you close the window doesn't make it sound proof! Nick after yelling and complaining goes on his phone and eventually walks away While on his phone. The other guy takes over and hands me an order, not even mine. Gives me another one. Still not mine. Then I mention I still don't have the Oreo blast and Nick comes over and slams it on the counter and walks away. I'm extremely upset at this point and jsut say thanks and go home. My entire order was wrong. I was overcharged. And Nick was extremely rude and should be fired. Because of him, my family and I are never going there again. I grew up with Sonic, and I like it but I am not in love with it. I like to go here for my Route 44 drinks and that is about it. If you want to try a sandwich or something I recommend breakfast as you get some descent sized sammies for your buck. And if you are more of a burger person I would suggest having the toaster version of the burger. I would wait till they are done with the whole staging area, as it is unbelievable long still. I've been watching their commercials on TV for years and was excited to see one open up in SD. I finally made my way there and was definitely let down. The burgers were not bad but average at best. It was a very busy night at Sonic. We drove 30 minutes to eat here. We pulled into one of the few spots left and took are time looking over the menu. When we were ready to order it only took a couple seconds for someone to answer. We had a fairly large order with changes to items. It came out in a decent amount of time, especially considering how many people were there. Are order was correct, the food was hot, and tasty. Omg. We just paid 5.75 for two large sodas. Happy hour here really IS cheaper. They do have the very best sodas, cups and ice. I am a soda consumer fanatic so I know. Lines can be really long so we always check before going in the drive thru line. Love the tater tots. It's been open for more than a week now so I decided to go here with my mom and sister. There was a long drive-thru. We waited in the line for about 30 min. Not as long as I expected it to be since others said they waited for more than an hour. The food was okay. Typical fast food I guess. They did have a variety of food to choose from. I love their ice cream sundae! The chicken popcorn was alright. Nothing really different from In-n-Out except for their slushies. BTW, I love their chili cheese fries! I'd definetely go back just to try their other slushies and the different mixes that you can choose from. read more
