I waited until there were open stalls before I ventured into Sonic. Barely got my Dually in the stall but it did fit. Glad I didn't wait in line, this is fast food after all Burger wasn't anything special but it was OK. Server was a nice, pleasant young girl. Let me know that they took credit cards but there wasn't a line for a tip on the charge sheet. I didn't mind the tip. Anyone skating around on a cold winter night deserves a reward. Compared to McD'd, Wendy's or BK I didn't think the burger was as good. The menu is far more extensive but I don't think I would make it a point to stop at Sonic if there is something else available. read more

Came across this Sonic on my way back from NH, and was initially excited to stop by and grab a quick coney dog. I was surprised to find out though that my experience here was less than satisfactory/what I expected. I ordered a Coney chili and a New York hot dog. Both were mangled and doused with way too much cheese sauce and relish. The buns were also way moist/soft and as a result just caused a huge mess while eating them. Usually very well made from other locations I've been too, but considering it was late at night and they weren't packed, I was especially surprised at the crappy execution of my order. Not sure why they thought drowning my hot dog in cheese sauce was a good idea. Thank god it's served in a paper tray and not just a bag. The only thing saving this experience were the tater tots. Incredible as always. Regardless, I probably won't be visiting this location ever again. I'd highly suggest visiting the Chick Fil A instead down the block. read more

First of all, I don't normally write reviews. Don't have the time or inclination. But I need to warn the masses about this one. EEWWW!!! I just ate there minutes ago, and I was stunned at the lack of flavor in the food. Bland is an understatement. Like CARDBOARD! I got the popcorn chicken and onion rings, the chicken was edible, just, but ever so flavorless despite my having ordered it "spicy" and the onion rings I gave up on altogether after just two. They were even worse. Cardboard rings more like. The fries my mother got weren't anything to brag about either, pretty soggy. In fact the only edible thing we got was her burger, which was ok. Go to any other fast food place before this one, that's all I can say. Stopped by on my way back to NH from New Haven. I fell in love with Sonic when I stumbled across one on the way to Raleigh, NC several years ago. I thought the stalls were really cool and employees on skates of course. I had a shake of some sort. I remember it being pretty good. Fast forward to earlier this year when I was snowbirding in northern CA and there was fortunately a Sonic not too far from where I was staying. Their peanut butter fudge shake is soooo good. I probably made one too many visits during my stay but it was all worth. So I was happy to find out there was one along the route I take back home when I visit New Haven. The peanut butter fudge shake is still just as good. It was neat that an employee skated out with my shake even though I was in the drive thru. I've never tried their food items so I have no comment on that, but they do have the some of the best drinks and shakes and at a decent price. read more

A neat drive up stall layout where the attendant comes in light up roller skates to bring your food. Service was pretty good and it was a neat experience. Wished they had those trays that go on your windows where it holds your food to make it easier to eat in the car but still enjoyed it. read more

Strawberry Lime Aid... enough said. Okay, probably not enough. Sonic is kind of new to the North East, but has been a staple of the south west for ever. It is in the same category as BK, McD's, & Wendie's, but it is a lot better than all three of the others. If you are feeling depressed and just want to end it all, get a larger Chili Cheese Tot. If you survive, you will need to hit the gym for about a week. As for the lines, I can assure your the store configuration in Connecticut is totally different than any other. I am not sure what they were thinking. But if you can get over the bad design and just think for a moment about what you are eating, I think you would have to admit that the food is not mediocre given the actual competition. If you honestly think McDonalds or BK gives you the same quality or flavor, you need to reconsider providing Yelp reviews. I am just saying. Not sure what everyone is complaining about. You know what you're getting yourself into before you arrive - fast food burgers and fries. This is better than your typical drive thru. I thought that this location was well organized and efficient. No wait to order. Placed the order. Drove around. Order waiting for me. Even with my special order (aversion to tomatoes on any sandwich) the bag was waiting for me. It was made for me, it was hot, it was ready. Tater tots are awesome. Crunchy and salty. Great shakes and burgers. Next time I'll park, order, and enjoy the experience of getting waited on by a roller server. Are burgers better at sit down restaurants? Maybe. Went because of a" free "hot dog coupon,by the time we ordered one drink, one order of tots and one fish sandwich our order was well over nine dollars..and the sauerkraut on the hot dog was not free..of course my husband felt the need to tip the server too..so much for trying to save a few bucks. Not sure why this place gets all the hate, but Sonic is one of my favorite fast food joints, and I really wish they had more in my area. I stopped here on my way back from a roadtrip to DC, and although I had to wait in a "staging area" before I could get in to a carport, it was still worth it. For the most part, the food is just pretty good. The onion rings are decent, but a little too sweet, and the chicken sandwiches are salty and make you feel bloated after ingesting them, but it's oh-so-good when you actually bite into it. The cherry limeades are also a must, though it could use a little less ice. All in all, if you're looking for something a little different, Sonic's worth a try. read more

I had a good experience at Sonic. I had never been before, and but wanted to wait until the excitement (i.e. huge insane lines) died down before I gave it a try. I went to Sonic on a Sunday afternoon with my husband and sister. We decided to sit on the patio because I was planning on getting the coney dog and didn't want to get any chili on my car interior. We got a table in the sun, placed our orders and they came out fairly quickly. The car hops were really friendly and pleasant. My husband and I both got coney dogs and my sister got the grilled chicken sandwich. Hubby also got onion rings which I thought were extremely bland...flavorless even. The Coney Dog was ok, but I think next time I'll get plain one (I think I got caught up in the excitement of the Coney). It was 16 bucks for the three of us--not bad. Oh and I didn't realize this at the time but you can order anything on the menu at any time of day--so next time I'll be getting the breakfast burrito. The stars are for this places unique style, design, service and speed, plus a really good menu selection. But, there are no stars for the food. There was no veggie burger or vegetarian alternatives so I opted for the fried mozz and tots with cheese. Although the fried mozz was cooked to a golden perfection, the cheese was rubbery and dry and the breading was bland.....but the did look good. The tots were cold and bland, which is usually the case with frozen tots even at the grocery store which is why I buy stop and shop tots (try them, they are seasoned perfectly and yummy) Anyways, the "cheese" was a slice or two of yellow "cheese" melted on top of the tots. I say "cheese" because I really don't think it was made from milk, it was flavorless and rubbery. My Fiance said his Philly Cheese steak was terrible, same yucky cheese and far too many onions. Understandably, this is a fast food chain and not a fine dining or bistro type place. When it comes down to it, a restaurant is really about the food and bad food is makes for a bad experience no matter how cool the presentation, how fast you get it and how many choices you have to select from. If your a restaurant, and serve food, do it right and serve edible food with at least some attempt for flavor and quality no? Although we didn't have any soft drinks beyond diet soda, I would stop in again if in the area to select something from the drink menu and/or dessert but never again would I eat anything else there. read more

I've been to Sonic down south so I thought I know what to expect. There was no waiting for a spot, no waiting to order & no waiting for food delivery. Some coupons came with the order & that was a good idea. I had some problems understanding what the crew member said through the microphone, but it sounded cheery. The carhop was pleasant & efficient. We had ordered fries, and were asked if we wanted ketchup, a pleasant surprise & a smart idea, since it cuts back on having to return to the car. I just wished they had curly fries. We received our strawberry limeade & sweet peach tea and drove away down the Merrit. And we were very happy up to that point, until we started sipping our drink. I got to the window to be told "we only have one hotdog." I hear in the background from an employee, "I shouldn't have eaten an extra one" And "I just threw the cooked ones away" Meaning, there was still time to get one going for me. I wanted two. It's fast food, so the food is basically 'you get what you get!' But the shakes? AMAZING! The strawberry tastes like really strawberry, and the whipped cream tastes fresh as always. Thick texture and very smooth, with bits of real strawberry inside. If the drive-thru line is too long, they bring the food out to you. I was on my way back to Manhattan from Vermont and the carhop gimmick worked. Especially since, the girls skate lightning fast to your car. Just slide in from The Merritt, park, lean over, order and swipe your card. It's easier than pumping gas. I just ate and stared into the green, leafy trees. Then, a yellow bird came up and sat in front of me. It's pretty there, if you park in the back. For a fast food burger it's pretty juicy and cheesy, with crunchy pickles and veggies.The mozzarella sticks were not piping hot and melted, but still good. Sonic: comfort food for me. When I moved here I would have craving for jalapeno poppers with cheddar in them instead of cream cheese, and I knew Sonic had them. Best fast food joint period. I always get a burger and just recently got hooked on their shakes. Tried their tots and fries and those were good as well. I have waited at their huts a few times and was not disappointed with the service at all. Also, I have gone through the drive thew multiple times and was not upset with that service either. The food is always great and the staff is always friendly. It is fun watching the employees skate around the parking lot and from what I gather from the staff, it is fun for the them as well. It brings you back to an era when service mattered and waiting at tables was not necessary. The wait never really bothered me other than opening week. The parking lot is a bit tough to get out of, but I am seeing a lot of this in my reviews, so I guess it is common for eateries to place themselves on busy streets. Price is what you would expect for a fast food burger place. Whether you are an old timer looking for some nostalgia, a burger/hot dog fanatic looking for another fix, or a family of four cursing down route 15 or 5, stop on by and enjoy a Great meal at a Great place. read more

Sonic is what it is. It's fast food, delivered on roller skates, and eaten in the car. I do like the popcorn chicken- it's crispy and you get a lot of pieces for your money. I do wish they had a sweet and sour dipping sauce, though. Tater tots are also good, and take me back to my childhood snacking days. Happy hour is from 2-4, and all slushes/drinks are half off. Sadly, it does not cover the milkshakes. I also wish there was at least one or two healthly options, besides the apple slices. Maybe a salad would be a nice menu addition, especially since I am sitting in my car, it'd be easy enough to eat. I would also like to offer a review on their milkshakes being that my husband and son purchase them very often. Other than their concrete options your milkshake will be almost as loose as water, even if you ask them to make it thick. THIS RESTAURANT SUCKS! Every time I've been to this place the ice cream machine doesn't work and the staff doesn't tell you up front. The staff is miserable and unprofessional they make you wait in the stalls because the credit card machine doesn't work, they also make you wait to long to get service. I do love my sonic and I have no idea what I would do without it, however when you change the prices an start charging more for your food while the current menu board reads the old pricing, I believe you have crossed into "bait and switch" territory or perhaps @ truth in advertising... A $.40 increase in a meal isn't going to break the bank but the principle of the matter is of paramount concern. Please next time pay to change the menus PRIOR to up charging people ! I had lunch here with my friend this afternoon, we don't live in the area so it was a treat to have our lunch served on skates. The server was friendly and fast, the food was okay. Our coney dogs were great but we sent back our Chicago's because of hard buns. We received new dogs in minutes however our new buns were softer because they warmed them up. The buns were still stale, we were very disappointed. We just visited the location in Orange a few weeks ago and it was great. We ordered the exact same items off the menu. Huge disappointment, Oreo chocolate shake was chocolate ice cream, a small dime size sprinkle of Oreos, not even advertised as the photo. Milk shake was so thick it took me over 45 mins to finish it, it was not melting at all, please and milk to it and thin it out. Ok - so with all of the hype revolving around the opening of CT's first Sonic - we felt compelled to give-in to temptation and give it a try. First off - I must say I have never been a fan of eating in the car. I never know where to put things, and I always fear that things will spill all over the place, etc. Since this was my first time going to a 'drive-in', I was foolishly disappointed that there weren't any trays to keep our food on - hanging from the window - like at Arnold's from Happy Days. So If eating in your car bothers you - then take your food to go (eat at home) or move on to somewhere else. Talk about hype. Pretty funny. There were plenty of cars entering and being led out of the parking lot by Sonic workers. I guess if the line is getting to large, they are telling cars to leave and ride around the corner and come back. My guess is - after a few weeks of this - after everyone has had their Sonic experience - they won't have a need for these people. So we waited in line for 30 minutes and it's finally our turn. We pull into the stall, review the menu and press the button to order. With all of the mayhem centered around opening weekend, the girl who took our order could barely here us and kept messing up our order. I found myself correcting her when she kept reading back the order. Instead of making corrections to my order- she just added new items to our order and it was getting confusing. The food was delivered to our car via roller skating waitress - in less then a minute. Beware to all of the other burger joints in that area - Sonic is bringing back the 'fast' in fast food. They rule in terms of speed and mass production of food. So the order was all messed up. We received 2 extra shakes, 2 extra tots, and an extra burger. She said - she can't bring it back into the restaurant (policy) as no food can go back in. I asked her if she can take it off our bill - she said - she can try but was not sure if she could. Ugh. She was very apologetic but said that it's crazy back that and that the girl taking the order messed up w/ all the chaos. Any official complaint will 'get her in trouble'. Ok - opening weekend - I understand it all and am sympathetic to this stuff. The food was decent - in comparing it to fast food places. My wife compared her cheeseburger to a Wendy's cheeseburger. Tater Tots - (with the options of chili and cheese) are a fun alternative to the typical order of french fries. The frosted drinks - there were plenty of options and I really enjoyed my Peanut Butter Cup Sonic Blast. Too thick to drink from a straw. More like a desert then a shake. Yum! Someone came back to check in on us - and I asked her for a copy of the credit card receipt for my records. The waitress who delivered the food forgot to give it to us. She had us look again - no receipt in the car She went inside and after 5 minutes - came back out and said that our waitress apologizes - but she has no idea what happened to it and she's is unsure if she could go back to print out another copy. UGH. Again, another situation centered around a chaotic first weekend launch I guess. Overall - I think the ordering process will get better once the hoopla (yes I used the word hoopla in my review) dies down. In the end - Sonic is a sound consideration in comparison to the other fast food choices in the area --but once you get beyond the drive-in and roller skating experience - and judge it only on the food....I think everyone will agree that it's pretty status quo. read more

First time at a Sonic and from the commercials I was expecting something special. I drive a cargo van and barely fit into their drive-in space. I ordered a #2: super sonic cheeseburger combo. Hamburger was cold after being loaded with the veggies. Fries were OK. I did like the crushed ice in my drink. I found Sonic to be just another fast food burger joint.
