We heard that Sonny Reds is one of the best chicken wing spots in Buffalo, so we finally decided to try them out. They did not disappoint and I'd say they are in my top 5 favorite wing places for sure. We went on wing Wednesday where their normal hot sauce based wings were 50 cents and their specialty sauces were 75 cents. We ordered General Tsos, lemon pepper and their signature sauce which is like a medium franks style sauce. The General Tsos wings had maybe a cornstarch dredge which gave them a deeper crunch and the sauce adhered to them beautifully. I highly suggest those wings! The lemon pepper were a little disappointing because they lacked the zing that lemon pepper usually has. The wings themselves were crispy and delicious though. Their signature sauce was really good. A nice amount of spice without being too hot. They were also very meaty and crispy. Definitely give them a shot if you're in the area. I honestly cant wait to go back to try more flavors! read more

We always pass this place and heard they had fantastic wings, so we decided to try. It was a Sabres game so the place was packed but we had a seat in the back room. The drinks were awesome and a good size. They came quickly even though the bar was standing room plus fully seated. We chose wings and roast beef sandwiches. Beef was so tender it was like butter. The sandwiches was piled high. Could only eat half. Wings were cooked perfect saucy but crispy. All employees were working hard running all over the place. We haven't been there in a while so we decided to take advantage of $.50 wing nite. Garlic parm wings were not buttery like almost every other place my wife gets them. They use a thicker "sauce" instead of butter. She said it was different but she enjoyed it. The hot wings were delicious too. Stuffed peppers were very good. I don't always like marinara sauce on them but these were good. Sauce was very tasty and cheese filling was fantastic. Service was very good too. My expectations might have been a little high for this place. We came here for wings because I've heard really good things. We tried to mango habanero and some regular hot wings. The sauces were pretty okay, honestly the hot sauce was kind of greasy, and I'm just not a fan of really large wings. They fell pretty short on being crispy at all and were a little rubbery. We also tried the chicken tenders tossed in bbq and they were okay. Not my favorite bbq flavor, just tasted like some sweet baby rays. Also was not a fan of their house blue cheese. Stopped in tonight and the place was packed, but for a party of eight the wait was only about a half hour. The wings were better than average, though probably not quite deserving of the high ranking they received from Wing Coalition. We ordered 10 hot, 10 BBQ gold, and 20 medium. First time here. We arrived to find it very busy on a Thursday evening. Hostess/server even asked if we had a reservation, we didn't, but she found us a table anyway. It was crowded, the bar was lined with patrons, seated and standing, and all the tables we could see were full. The service and food are overall pretty good. Went on a Sunday for pizza due to the advertised fire oven pizzas. Once we sat down were told they can't do pizza today. No reason why, place was not busy. Ordered a Peroni beer that was on the menu. Wife got her high noon, kids got their drinks.After quite a while the waitress came and said the peroni was warm, was that ok or do you want a different beer. First time here today. Was middle of afternoon on a Tuesday. Not busy. One table occupied and just a few people on the bar. We had two adults, two teenagers and two children. Barmaid/waitresd with long black hair looked at us when we walked in like we were a nuisance to her. She did not make us feel welcome at all. Took drink orders for 5 of us and quickly walked away forgetting one. Came back with the drinks and one of them wrong. Okay...I can understand a mistake but as far as forgetting to take a person's drink order, that shows how inattentive you are. Finally got all drinks and placed food order. Food came out in a very reasonable amount of time but 2 had raviolis and had to ask Miss Inattentive for silverware, something that should have been given before the food came out. Let me stop here and just say that despite being disappointed by the service, the food was very good. No complaints from anyone!! Kitchen did an awesome job. Now back to Miss Inattentive...brought over our bill and just walked by and kid of flipped it on the end of the table. Didn't show any courtesy and or anything. We sat for a considerable amount of time waiting for her to come back to take payment. I watched her doing nothing except chit chatting with the one man left on the bar and playing on her cell phone. I finally caught her eye and motioned. Needless to say on a $129.00 tab she was tipped $15. I consider myself a very good tipper. Normally 30%. So glad we tried this spot before Shea's. My mom and I came on Ash Wednesday so the best of both options were being served - wing deals and fish fries. Everyone around us ordered the wings and lots of them. Service was a bit slow, but it was likely due to the offerings on this day. I went with the Buffalo-style fish fry and loved this spin on a traditional WNY favorite. The sides were plentiful, but could have used a bit more flavor, salt helped. Also really enjoyed that there were two potatoes (fries and potato salad) as well as lazy pierogi, my mom ate the coleslaw. Potato salad was different - scooped like mashed potatoes and had surprise cucumbers in it. The Rodeo Burger ended up being the star of the show - it was huge and well-seasoned. When we read "double patty," we were expecting smash burger size, nope, they were regular size and drool-worthy. Definitely try one of their burgers. The wings here are really good! A couple friends and I went out after work and tried the mild, hot, Nashville and general tso wings. The Nashville was probably the best Nashville style wing I've had in buffalo and the general tso might be just one of my favorite wings ever. We went for a Friday fish fry since we heard many rave reviews. The dinner did not disappoint. Sonny's style was the best. No one in the party had ever had hot sauce on a fish fry so two out of three chanced it and boy it didn't disappoint. The only issue was you do need to have reservations to get a table which we did and were promptly seated but it took around 10 minutes before a waitress came over. Above average sized wings cooked to perfection, we had buffalo sauced wings at our tailgate so opted for a unique sauce that left us hungry for more. We came for $1 wings and they were delicious. There was a good variety of flavors to try and the price includes celery and blue cheese! You must order each flavor in 10 wing orders. I got the general Tso which was a nice new flavor combo. Crispy, sweet and topped with fresh jalapeño slices these were my favorite for sure. My boyfriend got hot, which is a house hot sauce not just a Franks blend. They were tasty. His favorite was the blackened sweet jerk. I really liked the presentation on an old school fajita skillet. These were too sweet for me to have more than one, but the char was good and flavor had a nice spice to it. The service was fast and friendly and the restaurant was nicely decorated. I wanted to try the wings at Sonny Red's after hearing some great things. The wings were better than average, but not great, to me. I had hot and my wife had garlic parm wings. The size and meatiness of the wings were high points. They were plump and juicy. The hot sauce had a great zing to it and was not overpowered by vinegar. The sauce was great. My only issue with the wings was that the outside was kind of rubbery, with some chewy fatty areas. I just prefer them a bit crispier, these were not crispy wings. I know, I can order them extra-crispy, but to me that's always a crapshoot in that it may result in overcooked, dry wings. Everyplace is different in this regard. It was kind of noisy, they have one of those metal ceilings that causes noise to bounce off rather than get absorbed like those old ceiling tiles that nobody likes any more. Also, I subtracted a star for all of the TVs showing the nightly news. At least the sound was turned down, but in this day and age, I do not want to witness the downfall of society into idiocracy while I eat my dinner. I don't do it at home when I'm eating, and when I go out for dinner or drinks, I absolutely want to get away from all of that crap for awhile. I refuse to go to any bar or restaurant that has a news channel or the network news on the television, but I stayed in this case since the sound was turned down but I was not happy about it. We'll probably try them again sometime, I see that you can get a fish fry with lazy pierogi, so I might try that, but only if the news is not on the array of televisions surrounding us. read more

On our third try going into this restaurant, we finally got a seat at the bar and food. The other two times were too busy or they stopped serving food when we came in. Third time's the charm! Came in on Wednesday night for wing night. Wings were a dollar apiece. We chose the, regular medium/hot wings and the garlic honey spice wings. The garlic honey were so good! We asked for super crispy and that's pretty much how they came out. The flats weren't as crispy, but the drums were very crispy and lots of fatty crispy bits on the end of the drums. I really liked the sauce. It was sweet, but not sickeningly sweet. I also really liked the way they did their blue cheese. Pretty certain there was something mixed in, maybe sour cream... but it gives it a really good flavor. There were two IPA's to choose from, Hayburner and 60 minute Dogfish Head. This was our next stop on the Lenten Fish Fry Fridays. First time here for the both of us. It's a typical blue collar bar and restaurant in the Wester New York area. It has both a bar/dining area and a back room dining area as well. Their menu features mainly brick oven pizza, but has the Friday fish fry's as well. The servers were very friendly, and ordered put dinners and had them in front of us within 10 minutes! I decided to try something different from the traditional beer battered fish fry and went with the beer battered fire fish. This is a beer battered fish with Sonny's sause on top sprinkled with parmesean. If you are a lover of wings, I would definately recommend trying. The Sonny sauce has some zip to it, would compare to a medium to hot wing sauce. It complimented the fish very well and came with a side ob Bleu cheese. The potato salad was home made and very tasty with chunks of potato and skins. Fries were seasoned and tasty. Lazy perogi was a little on the dry side. The cole slaw was average. My fiance had the broiled lemon pepper and said it was very moist and delicious. We definately want to go back for the brick oven pizza as that is what they specialize in. I called to place an order at 4 on Saturday right when they opened. The phone line was busy until about 4:30. I'm thrilled they seemed to be doing well with takeout orders. Food was ready in half an hour. Man, do I miss eating here. Seeing the lights above the beautiful bar. The wood fire oven. And yet tables and chairs turned over and not a soul to be seen. Just heartbreaking. I tried to get a couple pops but there were no to-go cups. Hostess did everything she could to accommodate me - even offered kids cups. They have these really cool mason jar cocktails that'd like like to try out. I ordered Buffalo BBQ wings. They might've been the BEST wings I've ever had. The sauce was unbelievably flavorful and finger licking. The BBQ and Buffalo marriage was perfect, neither were overbearing. Sweet yet spicy. Nice big and plump wings cooked perfectly. But everything else was kind of meh: My burger was a overdone frozen patty. It did have nice crispy bacon on it. And it came with homestyle fries which I'm a sucker for. My pepperoni pizza was slightly underwhelming. Other than the nice wood fire oven crust cooked to perfection - the flavor just wasn't there. I almost wish they posted a couple "special" pizzas on their menu. Leaving me to figure out pizza toppings is never a good idea. This is a full restaurant space. It's really nice actually. I am surprised, not sure why. They have a full bar and it's a great place to sit. And it's looonnnggggg. Plenty of tables too. Menu isn't huge, but it covers the bases. We did a pizza to go. Tons of tvs everywhere. Big ones and little ones. Overkill to me. All the same channel. Probably have plenty of different channels on Sunday afternoons. Annoying music a few decibels too loud playing, and it was almost empty when we were here. A hidden surprise in Lackawanna! Didn't have much in terms of expectations since I hadn't heard anything about it before and brick oven pizza are everywhere nowadays. For the whole table we ordered loaded tater tots, an order of wings, and a Regina margherita pizza and their White pizza. Wow!! Loaded tater tots were probably the biggest surprise - it was as if it were like a beef stew (which sounds weird) but the meat was SO TENDER, the sauce perfectly done - absolutely the best! Wings were great as well - came with a little sprinkle of parm, great size wings and not soggy at all! Both white and margherita pizzas had a great crust and dough - well made! - red sauce was not too sweet and great mozz on it too. White pizza was also amazing not too thick or garlicy as I've experienced in the past. Waiters were also bartenders and were attentive, courteous and relaxed. People behind us got a chicken sandwich and burgers and they looked really good too. Reasonably priced as well - some places will charge you $20+ for a brick oven pizza, these were $14-15 and a creative range of options but very meat heavy (totally fine in my opinion.) I would say we'd like to see a little more with the toppings - both the tomatoes and the onions on respective pizzas weren't roasted or caramlized but raw so I think with a little care there this place is a real slam dunk! read more
