Waited half an hour for two simple breakfast orders when it wasn't busy and they managed to forget my side toasts. Wasn't worth it to drive back just for that, but..... I really was looking forward to the toast. Prices were average for the area. While waiting, a couple of people came back in after already picking up their food to ask for things missing from their takeout. My advice, ok to eat in but skip the takeout. Solid three. read more

My group of 2 went to Sonny's on December 16th around 11:30 am. We waited over 10 minutes to be seated even though there were two open tables and bar space available. When we finally sat down, we waited another 10 minutes for menus and then another 10 to get our drink order taken. Pat was our waitress and she was incredibly nice and apologetic- she was just under great stress. Throughout our meal, we were treated to a barrage of derogatory comments and harassment towards the servers from the kitchen. The two younger girls were visibly upset and it reflected in their service towards the customers. This is a joke in the wall in a strip mall but some teachers at Danbury High recommended it. Can not believe the terrible customer service we received today, specifically from the waitress Gabby. I have worked in a restaurant my entire life and am always super understanding of a busy place, but the attitude and neglect we received from our waitress ruined our entire morning. After a table next to us (that ordered 10 minutes before us) already received and finished their food, we began to question when our meal would come. After trying to nicely ask gabby if she knew how much longer our food would take, I was stricken with a rude tone as if I was being impatient for waiting 45 minutes for my eggs. My boyfriend and I could no longer listen to our stomachs growl and decided to head down the road to Bagelman (always the best). As we were leaving we said thank you to the (very nice and respectful host) and then were yelled at from gabby. "I HAVE YOUR FOOD RIGHT HERE" I'm sorry Gabby, but you do not get to ignore your customers for an hour and a half and then yell at them when they decide to take their business else where. It was 10:30 when we sat down, and 12:00 when we left with empty bellies. Update - we decided to call the owner after reading more negative reviews of "Gabby" and let him know it really wasn't the long wait that made us leave, it was the fact that Gabby did not come check on us once, or tell us our food would take that long. So, we stopped in for breakfast because it had good ratings. Well, we were not impressed. If you like everything covered in grease and oil then this is your place. I had the eggs with grits and biscuits. The grits had so much fake butter in them that I could not eat them. And biscuits were so greased up they made me sick. The eggs were okay. My husband had the garbage omelette & he seemed to like it okay. His home fries had so much brown that they tasted burnt. I've lived in the Danbury area my entire life and this is the place for breakfast food when considering quality, quantity, and cost; it cannot be beat. Sonny's omelets come out to perfection every time. Lunch menu items are very good as well. I read a previous comment that stated the food was greasy and the home fries burnt. This is nonsense. The challah French toast is my favorite sweet when on special, otherwise the chocolate chip pancakes are my go-to sweet breakfast. If you want to combine those two meal options, they have a combo with egg, meat, grits/potato, a pancake, and half waffle. I've had more breakfast than lunch, but the lunch I have had was great. Rare roast beef club and tuna melt are my faves, and Sonny doesn't disappoint. Decor wise, it's your standard diner, with a vast array of sports on the wall... We met first at a wine store he worked at, he would always pick out the best choices for my wife and I to try out. In our 4 years in Danbury, his wine shop was always a bright spot. This is our Saturday morning breakfast spot - everything is made to order, and the omelets are great. There's a ham, swiss & asparagus that's nice, a Mexican that's great and variations of bacon, sausage, cheese and some veggies... on Sunday's there are some other popular specials - like eggs benedict. The portions are huge, we always take some home for a second breakfast. It's true it's a family business -- complete with dad in the kitchen, mom in the front and a sleepy mono-syllabic teenager clearing tables. Wonderful place and best kept secret in Danbury. Everything is fresh and made by hand daily. I had the turkey and cheddar melt and potato salad special. The potato salad was so good and you could tell it was not from a package made by hand and delicious. The turkey melt was great tasted like a grilled cheese with turkey and just melted in your mouth. Wow what a wonderful find. We were hungry and driving through CT and yelp brought us here. Everyone who greeted us was friendly and welcoming. It was 10am but I ordered the tuna club which came with fries, macaroni salad, and a pickle. My bf ordered a breakfast plate. They both came out fresh and were really delicious. Being a staple during driver's ed classes, Sonny Side Up was my savior (and I'm sure many others' who also took driving lessons next door). I looked forward to that bacon egg and cheese on a bagel every morning because it was cooked perfectly. It's been tough to get back there since I don't go out for breakfast too often, but I figured I'd live a little this past weekend and reminisce on some great memories. Sonny's looks the same, which isn't a bad thing, it's just exactly the way I remember it being. The waitresses were super nice and the food was obviously just as good. This is a quaint little diner, with a very hospitable staff. The owner came out to every table to greet everyone and ask how everything was. That just gets me every time. I love when a restaurant takes the time to do this. It really shows they care about what they're doing. The food was great too. Boyfriend had the special croissant french toast with chocolate chips & it was just heavenly. The chocolate was actually baked into the toast so it was perfectly gooey and rich. The home fries were good, but they had a buttery sort of taste to them and they were on the greasy side. Definitely not light. The toast and coffee were also very good. The corned beef hash was pretty disappointing. Not a lot of restaurants make their own corned beef hash from scratch, but most places will do a little more than take it out of a can and over-cook/burn it on a griddle. Overall a good experience.
