This particular Sonny's BBQ is conveniently on West Colonial Drive (State Toad 50) and for a chain restaurant is not a bad place to grab a meal. The service is friendly and it had a decent ambiance. Sonny's BBQ has been around for quite a bit of time and this particular location is quite popular. It was pretty busy when I was here, but the servers were all great. We have been to this Sonny's before, and didn't have the best experience because of the server we had. But we came again tonight for the tax day ribs deal. And let me say Mikaela is the absolute best, first of all she is so sweet, and then on top of that it was clearly a busy night and she absolutely killed it serving all the tables she had. She got all our orders right, was totally on top of refills and drinks. The one drink that was a bit of an issue was only because someone else took the orders and got it wrong in the first place so she had remembered that one Honestly Mikaela is the best server I've had anywhere in a long time. Here a couple weeks back with a big group. I had the dry-rubbed ribs, which were well cooked and flavorful (many BBQ places have rather plain unsauced ribs, even if they call the dry-rubbed.) Sides were BBQ beans (very good), coleslaw and garlic bread (both good.) Service was OK, server disappeared a few times when she was wanted. She delayed getting me my drink refill until we were ready to leave, but then got me a to-do drink. read more

I am giving Sonny's BBQ a five star review because I really enjoyed it. It's not a five-star restaurant in terms of ambience and being costly as usual five star restaurants are. We had a great dinner on a Tuesday night. When we got there it was packed, but we only had to wait about 10 minutes for table. The service was really good. I had the Pitmasters plate with two meats. I chose the ribs and the pulled pork with green beans and coleslaw on the side plus garlic bread. It was delicious. The only thing I would say is that the ribs and pulled pork were not very hot but they tasted good anyway. My vegetarian husband had a salad and a side order of okra. The okra was so delicious that I would advise anybody who is reading this to make sure to order the okra. Parking is very easy, they have a big parking lot! read more

As a member of their app, you get a free birthday sandwich meal. I had never eaten here before so it was a great time to try it. Inside the restaurant smells so good. The server, Jamie, was very pleasant and explained the menu for since we were newbies, and gave us time to review. I had the 2-meat platter with the baby back ribs and then the chicken wings with a side of their citrus BBQ sauce. It comes with 2 sides and choice of garlic bread or corn muffin, so I tried the baked beans garlic bread and milk-based cole slaw. I must say we were not expecting the heightened level of service we received at the local Sonny's today. Anthony the kindest, most courteous and attentive waiter we have had in Orlando for a while. We're a family of six and usually eat out at higher end places and spend way more money than we did tonight. The level of service Anthony provided made us feel like we were at one of those places... the food was delicious. Super fresh, light and fluffy okra, tender pulled pork and sweet crunchy coleslaw... It didn't have a ton of flavor and tasted a little dried out with an occasional piece that was good. I will try again but it is just middle of the road bbq, there are better options around. I stopped in for dinner last night thinking it would be kind of a quick meal. I didn't know it was a sit down and be served set up. The service was kind of slow. The server was really nice tho. I ordered a caesar salad with pulled chicken. The dressing was on the side and came in Ken's packets which kind of disappointed me. I used one packet and used some bbq sauce and it did nothing for the meal. Normally I would give a place another try but I think I can find a bbq Caesar somewhere else. read more

As soon as I walked in the smell of bbq hit my face and it was the BEST SMELL! The restaurant was nice and clean and I loved that they had different types of bbq sauces on the table. Our server was a little scatter brained and when my boyfriend ordered a sweet tea she came back two seconds after leaving the table and asked again if it was a half sweet half unsweetened tea and he politely said no just sweet. She came back with the drinks and brought him half sweet half unsweetened. The food specials they offer are great prices . We both ordered the ribs and pulled pork special. We went here a few weeks ago and everything was good and the service was excellent. Last night, we went back and expected more of the same but, we were wrong! We had to wait about 15 minutes before being seated in a booth at the bar and the waiter was a little overwhelmed so it took him a few to get to us but not bad overall. I ordered a 2 meat dinner with St Louis (wet) ribs and chopped brisket. The waiter questioned if I knew the chopped was fatty. I did (and was expecting it to be juicy and tender). French fries and a salad were my sides. Btw, the ribs, brisket and salad all cost extra so I was expecting a little "premium" for them. I was disappointed. The "garlic butter" toast was just plain toast...no garlic or butter to be found! Usually not the case. They usually get the bread just right. The salad came and did not look anything like the picture on the menu. (see the photo) But it did taste pretty good. I asked waiter why the photo showed croutons but the salad came without any so he brought some pitiful crouton crumbs (see the photo) He also brought a new piece of toast and some fresh fries. I told him I don't understand how you can both overcook fries and have them not done on the inside so, the new ones he brought were both undercooked on the outside AND the inside... go figure! I used to go to Sonny's years ago and mostly it was very good. Things changed and I stopped going for many years but it seems like they're now trying to get back to their roots and I would love to see them succeed but not going to happen like this. So when they used to have "all you can eat" ribs, the 1st ones served were always fresh and juicy and tender but when you ordered refills, they came out like they were cooked yesterday and reheated. When I ordered them this time, I expected them to be juicy and tender. They were not! The brisket was very dry and chewy. Totally unexpected since I had just gotten some on the previous visit. To make things worse, when I told our waiter about it, he didn't even offer an apology or try to get a manager over to see us..just kind of shrugged it off and went about his business. I had to flag down a manager and she said she was busy with another issue and would get back to us which took about 15 minutes. I told het about the issues and she just stared at me like a deer in the headlights! Then she asked if I wanted "to go" box! (almost all of the ribs and brisket were left, all of both fries, and both pieces of "toast". Unbelievable! I told her if I had to pay for this mess, then I was going to take it home and try to put some life back into it, otherwise, I had no intention of taking it home. She said she would check to see what she could do and after another 10 minutes, the waiter came back and said she removed $20 from the bill. She didn't even come back to the table. So I guess with management like that, it's no wonder all the rest is allowed to be so bad. What a shame! read more

Had carry out a couple of weeks ago while visitng friends who live in the area. It was some pretty colid barbecue. We had ribs, pork, and brisket. The brisket was by far the highlight of the meal. Sonny's is a solid option in an area where BBQ options are fairly limited. read more

I have grown up with Sonny's. I was very excited for them to open as comfort food. This is a tough area as there is amazing BBQ very close by. Sometimes though you just need the classic. We went opening weekend and it was amazing. They had the training team there helping to get things started. The food was fast and cooked to perfection. however, I have tried twice since then and now that they are on their own they are struggling to find their way. The ribs are not cooked enough and are chewy. I ordered the sampler combo that includes brisket, pork, chicken, and ribs. The brisket was not trimmed properly and was about 50% fat in the middle. The oddest part was no silverware was included. I had ordered to go and no silverware was included. Had to sneak into a 7-11 to get a fork. Hopefully they can figure it out. read more

Sonny's just opened in Ocoee on Highway 50 near Maguire Rd. They hit the ground running with lots of locals showing up the first few days of opening. The restaurant is nice and the service was excellent. Our food was a little spotty but pretty good for just opening. After eating we ordered some egg rolls and corn nuggets to go. The corn nuggets had a bunch of little nubbies that were greasy balls of nasty and they forgot to cut the egg rolls. The egg rolls were pretty greasy too. They just opened so I would not hold it against them ...but definitely check over your "to go" orders before leaving. read more

Excited for this Ocoee addition! This was my first time eating at a Sonny's and I was pleasantly surprised by the generous portions and reasonable prices for the barbecue. We started it off with corn nuggets which I had not seen in years! They were perfectly crispy outside and creamy on the inside. I love the option to get their smoked chicken wings as one of my meat options and the garlic bread that came with my meal! I will say that the baked beans, sweet tea, and barbecue sauces were all VERY sweet. We really enjoyed lunch here and will definitely be back to try out their drive-through! read more

Yes... and no. The good... and the not-so. While it might not be Vegas, you'll be doing some gambling here. We've had really good experiences here, but others have made us question our decisions. And, with several amazing BBQ restaurants nearby, it's risky. I need to be clear that the loaded tots are amazing, and a meal in itself. It's too bad that, on our last order, the clearly noted instructions (in bold with stars on the receipt) for the onion straws on the side were ignored. I enjoy their Sweet Tea, so we ordered a gallon. It's too bad that our jug was only 3/4 full, and hot (FYI: Walmart just one traffic light away has full, cold jugs for half the price). I love brisket, but when ordering "lean" (and aware of the significant upcharge for adding brisket to my two meat platter) it was unfortunate that we only got four strips of meat, each about 50% unedible fat, and each less than half the width of the phone on which I'm typing this review. Our server was friendly when we dined in. Our curbside delivery was about 20 minutes after the quoted time (and after watching other curbside people arrive after us, and requiring multiple trips by the deliverer to get some orders right). In summary, this location is frustrating. Reminds me of a line from an old nursery rhyme: "When it was good, it was very, very good. But when it was bad, it was horrid". read more

I know... I've already reviewed Sonny's recently but we are lunch there today and tried a new menu item so I thought I should write about it. They have a few new things -- a fried catfish sandwich, a chicken salad sandwich and the Philly Cheesesteak w/smoked brisket! Which is what I had (see pic). It comes loaded with bell peppers, onions, brisket, queso, American cheese on a toasted bun. And you're supposed to get the new potato chips but I love their crinkle cut fries so I stayed with those... but I tried the chips and they were great too!! Service, as usual was spot on!! The sides (fries and coleslaw) were okay. However, the ribs and chicken were flavorless and dry. The pulled pork was okay, but it needed the sauce to add more flavor. I'm very dissatisfied in this order. This is the second time this has happened at this location which is why I'm only giving 1 star. We ordered food and got all the way home and they did not give us the correct order . We ordered a side of corn bread and instead gave us garlic bread. All they could do is adjust the price and all we really wanted was someone to deliver us the correct order of corn breads very disappointed once again. What an authentic and delicious barbecue! we have been searching for Sonny's fabulous type of fresh, authentic hickory smoked food. We ordered the Sampler platter, since we had been there before. It came with tender, well barked ribs, moist and tasty smoked chicken, unbelievably moist and flavorful brisket plus pulled pork. Annie, our server was phenomenal!
