An overall three star rating is befitting for Sonny's. Occasionally the food will be cooked just right, but most of the time it is mediocre. My go-to meal is the pulled pork, sweet potatoes (with cinnamon butter), and steamed broccoli. The garlic bread and corn bread are staples. My husband loves getting the all-you-can eat ribs here, which is why we frequent this location. Service can be spotty. Thank goodness they have those giant drink cups or else I don't know if my water would be refilled. I will say that I have been to a couple other Sonny's and this location has the best service. read more

The brisket is fatty... In Sonny's defence, I have found other bbq establishments "4 rivers," to also be fatty. It seems to be a Florida thing.. Fatty brisket. I don't think the briskets are cooked long enough to render the fat down. You can still have that pull apart, jusicy, smoked ring brisket if you cook it "low and slow. 12-18 hours. Next day, I ordered some smoked turkey and sausage meats. The sasusage is ok, but could be much better. The Turky, 2 lbs of it were dry when we got them home... I was hoping to entertain relatives from Texas, where they know how to bbq. I specifically did not order the briskets because Sonny's and others can not compete. I recoomend taking a trip to Texas and try arond all the bbq places and you taste what I mean. My relatiaves are arriving today and I am going to be embarrased serving them 50$ of dry Turkey and just ok sauasge... Having said all that, Sonny's seems to be a popular place. So I came here with a couple of friends for dinner-ish. I had the all-you-can-eat St. Louis style ribs with the sweet sauce, not the dry rub ones. I had the BBQ beans and french fries as a side, and I chose the cornbread. Also, I had sweet tea, which was on point, like it better be at a barbecue place. The beans were very good, the fries were fries, crinkle cut, and the corn bread was alright, not too corny, but in a cute muffin shape. All the sauces we there, too, classic Sonny's. I've had his meal at another Sonny's before, and my subsequent refills of ribs sometimes just get worse and worse. But at this Sonny's, on this day, all two of refills were on point and delicious. So I am a Sonny's fan. Been eating at various locations for 40 years. The quality comes and goes, but generally it is consistent. The past two orders have simply been garbage. Baby back ribs were so burnt they looked like charred bones from a fire. Garlic bread was stale, not sure if it was from the day before or just old. Even the chicken, which is usually pretty good, was over cooked and the white meat only that you pay more for didn't happen. In the COVID world where you are only doing takeout, you can't afford to send out crap. There is no excuse for serving this type of meal. read more

This is by far the best bbq in Florida. We have tried all the others in town, but keep coming back here when we are in the mood for good bbq. This particular location is near the Oviedo mall and has been around for as long as I can remember. They are in the process of remodeling, but it doesn't interrupt business at all. They must be doing it all at night. So far what I can tell is that they are doing a great job with remodel and I can't wait to see the new modern finished product. The place is always clean and has a good atmosphere. My go to at Sonny's is the Smoked Turkey sandwich, fries on the side, and a generous amount of their sweet bbq sauce. That sauce is good enough to drink straight out of the bottle (not that I would...). Hubby always goes for brisket in one form or another. He is pretty picky with his brisket but loves what Sonny's serves him every time. I have never had a less that excellent experience with any host or server here. All very friendly and helpful. The employees seemed very happy and were engrossed in conversation. I should not have been so patient and simply walked out. Please don't make my mistake. My husband and O have date night every Friday. We just moved to this side of town so we're trying a few things out. Decided to hit up a classic! We walked in and grabbed a seat fairly quickly. There were a lot of people but plenty of seating options. The decor inside is fun, wood shelving and wood panels on the walls. We ordered quickly and got our food not too long after. One of my favorite things about BBQ is that it's delicious and fast. Our waitress was friendly and checked up on us several times without being annoying. I had the pork trio plate and it's baked beans and coleslaw. The pulled pork was devoured quickly and the ribs were next. I was so full I couldn't even have some of the sliced pork! The sides were amazing, beans were piping hot and the coleslaw had great flavor. The only reason I'm giving it a 4 star is because my husbands plate of brisket didn't have that great of a portion on it. The table still had food particles and what I hoped were puddles of water. I thought about grabbing a paper towel and cleaning the table. Why? I walked to the hostess station, handed her the menu and said, "I can't eat here, the table is disgusting!" She only said "okay." No apology, no trying to make it right; just apathy! I have some friends who work in the area so I wanted to meet up with them for lunch somewhere close. It was pretty busy during a Friday lunch hour but luckily we didn't have to wait for a table. I was pleasantly surprised to find they have some great lunch specials. I went for the pulled chicken on texas toast with fries and mac & cheese. I love love love when places have pulled chicken, I try to shy away from pork so when there is another BBQ option I'm already thrilled! but if you like pork, go for it! Everyone else at the table devoured it. They also have ribs, briskey and a steak burger! Ok, back to my lunch - having the option of a Texas toast sandwich is also great! Makes it even better. The fluffy buttery bread soaks up the sauce and is very filling. My friends also really recommend the cornbread! Looked very tasty! First time trying Sonny's BBQ. Had read tons of reviews and was looking forward to seeing what all the hype was about. First thing I noticed was that there was no smoke smell in the restaurant. We're really good with a smokey ranch dipping sauce. They were pretty good. Received first drinks. One of our party had the all you can eat salad bar. She was very disappointed at the selection compared to a closer Sonny's. Very limited, food not prepared appropriately. Received my first round of ribs and sides. Ribs weren't bad, had the right amount of glaze to them. Baked beans were worst than regular canned beans, very watery. Cole slaw was the highlight as it was similar to KFC. One of the parties asked for a 2nd beer. Litterly took over 15 minutes to get it. It was just a bunch of mistakes by the waitress the rest of the night. I had to ask other waiters for assistance. The place started to get busy and you could see more and more people having to waiting longer and longer for their food. This particular site needs help, management definitely not involved. I was craving a filling meal and ended up going through the drive thru, and once I was ready to order, I heard a sweet voice welcoming me and greeting me so gracefully, and she had an uplifting and positive attitude that I believe fits a vibe that this restaurant needs . I have never been happier with my decision on this day! If you're ever going through the drive thru at Sonny's, you should pray you come across Victoria!!
