I've tried a couple of barbecue places around Pensacola, but this one has my favorite types of ribs.. I opted for the 4 meats with baby back and St. Louis ribs , dry rub wings and jalapeño smoked sausage and all of it was delicious! I didn't even come close to finishing everything on my plate. I opted for the cornbread, which is delicious and a double of the coleslaw cause I don't eat beans my husband got two of the Carolina sandwiches and the corn dip appetizer and it was way more than he could eat! We both really liked the corn dip with the homemade chips. Our service was absolutely excellent and I love the choices of all the different barbecue sauces on the table. I would say if you're coming to Pensacola this place is a must you really do need to stop into Sonny's barbecue drinks are good. Food is good. Staff is friendly. It's a win-win situation. read more

The food here is really good. We loved the pulled pork, Cole slaw, potato salad, and their Mac and cheese is also really good. Corn bread is bomb. I had to dock a star because we requested corn bread for our family meal, but when we got home, we were only given garlic bread. Their garlic bread is not good. I had to drive all the way back to get the cornbread, and only got 4 pieces with all that time wasted. Make sure you check your order before you leave! **EDIT TO ADD** we tried our banana pudding, and it doesn't have bananas in it just vanilla pudding with whip and wafers. Let me start by saying the service received from Elise was spectacular! Best service I've received in Pensacola at any restaurant I've visited, fine dining to diner or dive.... The food you ask? It was good! I ordered the brisket grilled cheese with loaded tots and sweet tea. The sandwich has several varieties of cheese, or cheese substances, along with brisket, served between two slices of garlic bread; yum! Why can't other restaurants just served hot great tasting food like Sonny's BBQ does? I had the Cobb Salad with pulled pork. For years I've ordered pounds of pulled pork and sides by the quart. I've always got the senior discount when I became of age. Yesterday I ordered three pounds of pulled pork and three quarts of sides. I also ordered a hamburger patty for my granddaughter because she has a special diet because of brain surgery. The hamburger patty cost $9.00!! I got my senior discount on it only!! The other items I didn't get any discount on. I talked to the manager about the discount I've always gotten and was informed that it was only on meals. This was my meal. We got home and there was no BBQ sauce. The manager explained that I should have never gotten a senior discount of bulk items. If I was informed of that when I placed my order I would have gone elsewhere. I will NOT go back to this Sonnys because I feel that this business is very deceptive. Buyer be ware and informed... ask when you order if the discount is honored. read more

I ordered the buffalo chicken bowl. When it was brought to me I couldn't even tell there was Mac and cheese in it. The server did volunteer to get me a side bowl of it. There was Mostly tater tots in the bowl and it had so much buffalo sauce on it you count taste anything else. There was a scoop of Mac and cheese on the bottom but not enough to see without scooping everything out of the bowl. So disappointed, I will never order this again. First they got my order wrong in the drive-through. So I go back inside to get it correct and they gave me my food which was the right order. The chicken was dry and flavorless, ribs were rubbery, corn nuggets were delicious, the sweet tea was good, garlic bread toast was soggy, chopped brisket was dry and flavorless, sliced brisket was inedible. I will not be coming back to this place, I paid nearly $30 for some corn fritters and sweet tea. Do not recommend. It's a shame. Navy Blvd, Pensacola location. I can't speak for this place on a consistent basis, because this was the only time I've visited here. Unfortunately, I can't say too many positive things about the food on this particular visit. Hopefully, we just caught them off their game, and things are better on a normal basis. I ordered the 2 meat plate, and picked the Sweet & Smoky ribs and the pulled BBQ. Bring from North Carolina, I can say that I'm pretty familiar with quality BBQ! Sadly, Sonny's missed the mark on both meats. The ribs were very dry, as was the pulled pork. The Mac and cheese tasted a bit like Stauffer's frozen stuff, and the baked beans had an "off" flavor. Anyway, gave the place 3 stars based on the response from our server and the manager who came to see us. Both were amazing and apologetic, offering to bring another plate of meat out. I declined, but that was my choice. That was nice of them to offer. That being said, the manager brought us out some banana pudding as an apology...and it was insanely good! So we seen there was no one seated in all the tables behind us . So time goes by there's more people there bringing huge steaming platters to the table's behind us now . Finally about 825 mysin in law says hey when we gonna get our food it's been a minute. We were polite oh there putting it together right now. Im thinking like right now it's been over an hour. Just ribs chicken brisket oh and my sil didn't get the sweet potato because it would've taken 40 min to be ready !!! Finally food comes out not hot my sis in law literally put her hands on food to show them it wasn't hot I touched it was luke warm at BEST NO HEAT AT ALL STAY AWAY asked for a manager she came out with this body language attitude like she did give Af rolled her eyes like wth never had a manager do that especially they messed up ! luke warm food over n hour later bringing new patrons there food before ours .we visit from out of state food was good for the price then . What I found was disgusting: a pile of dried out meat that had been sitting under a heat lamp for nobody knows how long. It tasted like feet. Came to this location to use my big deal combo coupon, should've chose a different one. Wasted my time and gas because I had to return the entire meal. The sandwich was wrapped in a piece of foil that looked like it had been used several times that day, balled up and freestyled into the trash can like a basketball then retrieved from the trash can by an employee which was then used to wrap my sandwich in. I mean the paper was filthy and so crumpled that there was no way that it was a fresh UNUSED piece. I wish I had taken pics but I was so pissed off and disgusted that I just wanted to return it to Sonny's. On top of that, it literally looked like it was just two pieces of garlic bread because the brisket meat was so scarce. They may as well not have even put any meat on it all. We always love visiting this Sonny's BBQ when in the area. The food is wonderful and so is the service normally. The only disappointment this time was the amount of brisket on the plate and the lack of bark. The pieces of sliced brisket were small, very unlike the previous times we were here. However, the pulled pork was delicious. I probably should have ordered that but at least I got to taste it since the person I was with ordered it. We are in Pensacola on vacation and were looking for something to pick up and bring back to our rental for dinner. I got on Yelp and found Sonny's BBQ and since it was close I placed an online order. It was a breeze to submit the order and pay for it online. My Husband went to pick it up and said that the staff was very friendly. When he got home with the order I checked it to make sure everything was included and it was...right down to the extra dressing I requested. The food was hot and you get plenty and I mean plenty. We couldn't eat it all so we will have some to eat tomorrow. I got the chicken breast and it was cooked perfectly and almost melted in my mouth. My Husband got the dry rubbed ribs and could not stop taking about how good they were. We will definitely order from them again no doubt. read more
