First time here with friends from the West Coast. We were promptly seated, place is not fancy but staff was friendly and attentive. We decided to order the family combination, serves 4+ the brisket was very good. The chicken and pork a little dry and needed some of the 4 sauces at the table, but tasted good. I waited in the drive thru for over 15 minutes and when I finally got to the window I was told that I needed to pull around, call the # and someone would bring my food out. This is s change from every other time I have ordered before. A sign at the drive thru would save customers from waiting and ending up with cold food. read more

Let's start with the positives. The food was good. I had the baby back ribs, the ribs were tasty and not fatty. The broccoli was very dry and unseasoned and the mac was OK. But I loved the corn bread! The negatives: upon being seated for a table of 11. We had a hostess walk us to a table fit for 8. She then huffed away like it was a major inconvenience and never came back to fix that mistake. We then proceed to swap the smaller table for a bigger one on our own since the hostess didn't feel like doing it. We were then met with our waitress who comes up to us and says in a nasty tone that "we're not supposed to move tables but go ahead!" This waitress then starts slamming chairs around. We never got a hi welcome to Sonny's or any pleasantries of the sense. Just a "what are yous drinking?". She also gave my brother the wrong dinner and tried to tell him it was right. 5 mins later she brings out the rest of the dinners with an attitude. We then realize there is an extra meal among the bunch. The waitress doesn't try to make it right or take it away she just angrily looks at her pad and throws her hands in the air and walks away saying "I don't know!" When clearly the order was placed incorrectly. Her poor service skills made my dad very uncomfortable to the point that he did not order and patronize this place. We came with the intention of having a nice family meal and was met with a nasty, patronizing attitude from this waitress. She's very lucky we didn't cause a scene the way we wanted to. Wow! Sonny's has completely renovated building and it's very nice! Excellent food and customer service! Teresa who I assume is general manager stops at every table to welcome and ask guests about their meal. I went to Sonny's BBQ at the Rock Hill location Monday on Memorial Day. When I was given a menu I did not see anything about all you can eat pulled pork. I haven't been there in a two or three years. I asked my waitress about it and she brushed me off and looked at me like I was nuts. So I ordered a plate of pulled pork with a sweet potato and baked beans. No refills for 19 bucks? I know the economy's crappy but this place is way too expensive for my taste. Apparently Sonny's BBQ doesn't offer all you can eat no more. This restaurant is way too expensive for me. After my waitress came back with my plate she never did come back to check on me. The only time I ever seen her and when she came back with my bill. She waited on the couple next to me hand and foot. She virtually ignored me. Crappy service and 19 bucks! I should have went to the Rock Hill Diner. Which I usually go to anyway. I am definitely staying away from this place for good. read more

The bagged salad mix tastes like poison and the other veggies were refrigerated left overs from who knows when. Y'all need to be ashamed for charging 8.99 for this crap. This was our first visit to Sonny's. We ordered a brisket sandwich and 2 pulled chicken sandwiches. The chicken had so much gristle that it was inedible. The fries had zero seasoning and were straight out of a frozen bag. We tried the coleslaw, which was warm and had no flavor and the potato salad which tasted like the premade container from Walmart. This location is no exception. Everything is the same. It feels and smells like going into your old elementary school cafeteria.....if you were lucky enough to have a salad bar. Food: The prices have increased and the portions are either the same or maybe a bit smaller. It IS, however, consistently good tasting. That's one thing they are doing well when it comes to not changing......they keep the food tasting good. But, come on, change out all the outdated wood paneling; the boring salad bar; the '70s style bar at the front (who hangs out at Sonny's to drink on a Friday night?) So if this place felt and smelled fresher, cleaner, and didn't keep raising their prices, I would give them 4 or 5 stars. read more

Sonny's is not as good as it has been in the past. The rack of ribs I got today was like shoe leather. I could not swallow the one bite I took. The sides were undersized and not worth $2.99 each. The salad bar is GREAT! That is why it gets 3 stars. Many selections, wonderful chicken salad and broccoli and cheese. Very tasty potato salad. You can sprinkle chopped eggs and ham to make it a real meal. It was $2.99 with a meal, now it is $3.99. You can take the leftovers with you so it makes it worth the price. The menu keeps changing, and they create a great special sandwich. Then you go in the next time and it is no where to be found. They will not make it for you on your request. Come on folks, keep it consistent. We will be back for the salad bar, ribs with the dry rub and the pulled port and sausage. We will be sure to avoid the baby back ribs. I know we are going through rough times and I understand restaurants are struggling bad! We believe in supporting local! However it should go both ways! The server who came out to are car was outstanding and very apologetic for our wait! The negativity started when we got home! We bought two platters and spent almost $40! Sonny's typically has great food. But my trip to the drivethru today was awful. Well the service was great as usual. The food was not! I ordered sliced pork BBQ and got part sliced and mostly chopped up garbage. I was thoroughly disappointed by this meal. It will be a while before I visit Sonny's due to this. I paid $20 for a meal that was fed to my dogs. If I wanted crappy food I would go to McDonald's and spend $7 for it. Very unhappy!!! These places charge a lot. Oh yeah I forgot the sweet tea!!! WHAT??!! That stuff is the proverbial "nectar of the gods"!!!! No wonder it costs 2.50 a glass!!! I kill 'em on the refills though! HA! My review is bias as I'm from Texas and we do bbq differently. I tried the fried pickles which were pretty good and then got the sunny sampler. It had brisket, ribs, chicken and pork. The pork was the best thing on the plate. The ribs were pretty fatty with not much actual meat. The chicken was dry and not much flavor, and the brisket was too weird being kinda of runny. The original bbq sauce was good which helped the chicken out. The baked beans were decent as well as the potato salad. Overall not bad, just does not compare up with my Texas BBQ. read more

Being from cocoa Florida back in the 70s I ate at sonny's two or three times a week and at many locations all over the south for many years. After moving to Columbia South Carolina in the later 70s charlotte North Carolina was closest one to me until the one in Rock Hill South Carolina opened up. And for years I visited it many times and brought anyone that wanted to ride for an hour to enjoy good barbecue. The last several times I ate there the pork was always very dry and sliced so thick it just wasn't what I was used to. So today my wife and I rode our motorcycle to Sonny's to try it again and was very dissatisfied with the pork. I told our server I wanted it sliced very thin. First plate looked like the cook cleaned the scraps off the grill as burnt trimmings etc is what she served me. Second time the pork was the thickest I've ever seen it sliced so I refused it and she brought out last plate that looked like something that was scraped off the road. I told the server I'd been eating at sonny's for 50 years and never been served such trash and wouldn't be coming back . She said sorry and processed the check. Such a shame. We were soooo happy to see a Sonny's BBQ!! Our huge family patronized them whenever we could find them while traveling. Beautiful new Sonny's, sad meal. It came looking so good - sliced brisket on garlic bread, French fries and iced tea. First off the tea tasted old. We always want a large to go tea to take with us traveling - they only had small. But after tasting, I didn't care to have anymore of it. Fries were good, hot and cooked just right, frozen crinkles - I love them. Beans - ok. Brisket was tough so I couldn't eat it. I basically had garlic bread and French fries for dinner. IF they had actually sliced the brisket ACROSS THE GRAIN, maybe it would have been edible. Please train your staff! Our server only came to our table twice. Once to ask what drinks we wanted and next to take our order for food. Never saw her again. Others brought our food and bill. Didn't ask if we wanted refills or if we wanted anything else. I hate leaving bad reviews anywhere during these hard times - but we spent good money there to basically have a couple carbs for dinner. Sadly we won't be back. Neither will our large family. The best Sonny's EVER was in Cocoa Beach, FL and second was off Tyvola Rd in Charlotte NC. Neither are there anymore. For the most part Sonny's always delivers. We have eaten at Sonny's all of the east coast. The thing I love about Sonny's is their sides and salad bar. They also have the best bbq chicken. And it is the best value out there. I could just eat their fries and coleslaw and be happy. We have had a few disappoints with brisket and slice pork but for the most part it is great!!
