My review is for the social (happy) hour at Sonoma Cellar. After playing and winning $40 on the slots, we decided to treat ourselves with a little bite to eat. The bar area at Sonoma Cellar is very relaxing and small. I think there were about 4 or 5 tables plus bar seating. Our server was very friendly and recommended a tasty cocktail for me (which I've already forgotten the name or what was in it but it was fruity). For food, we got the chef's choice sliders (tasty!) and tots bravas (which were just ok, a little too mushy and I prefer the original version). The complimentary bread was so warm and DELICIOUS, I'd go back just for that. We've seen this place as we wandered the casino and decided we were in the mood to try a new steak place. I'm leery of steak places because it seems they always over-cook the steaks, one step above what's requested. I assume it's because people order what sounds cool, like "medium rare" but then send it back when it's actually medium rare because they don't actually want that "rare" in there. It's unfortunate. This place was no different. I ordered medium rare (because I actually like it that way) and let the waiter know that they can err on the side of "rare" if they weren't sure--hoping that would indicate, yes, I actually want a red center. It came out (eventually) medium, pink with no red. Even near the bone was mostly medium, and that's usually a whole stage under the temp of the rest of the steak. I believe there was seasoned butter on top, but it was mild and I needed to salt the meat myself. The quality of the meat was good, it was nice and tender despite being a temp higher than desired. Server was friendly, I don't remember his name. We ordered drinks. They were fine, but nothing special, and came at the premium prices you'd expect. The breads that come out are good. It's a la cart, unless you get something that says otherwise, so the entre is by itself and you pick, and pay extra, for sides. We got salads and they were fine, again, nothing special. Because there was nothing about it that stood out, it will likely be lost in a sea of steakhouses that overcook your orders (I had to Google the name because I couldn't remember it, if that's any indication). Nothing wrong with them, the food was not bad, just not memorable. Prices are pretty par-for-course with other steak houses (high), but so is the food. If you go expecting any other steakhouse, you won't be disappointed. If you go hoping to find a hidden gem, you'll leave feeling underwhelmed. read more

We visited Sonoma Cellar for lunch on Easter Sunday. There was three of us, and we ordered chopped salad to start, which was delicious. We then ordered the 40 oz. Tomahawk steak, which we shared. Side dishes consisted of crispy baked potato skins, creamed spinach, and cream corn. All items were delicious, and cooked as requested. We also enjoyed tiramisu for dessert. Although the meal did take about 50 minutes from the time it was ordered, we did enjoy our meal. Service was excellent, with Juan as our server. The service was efficient but quite impersonal and a little slow at times - he could have sold us a couple more drinks, if he had paying attention and showed up at our table a little more frequently. The bartender sucked and should probably be demoted to a dishwasher - our "on the rocks" drinks came in very large glasses filled with ice. For our second round we had to request "a lot less ice" and a double pour, so we could actually taste the alcohol. The hostesses were rude and took long to sit us in a nearly empty restaurant even though we had reservations at 7:45 (seated at 8:05pm). We sat there until 8:13pm when Huey finally came but didn't take our order for drinks or entrees. At 8:23pm he finally returned and took our drink and entree orders... As we waited we observed Somer who tended to of her tables, took pictures for someone's birthday, got to know the couple at the other table all while clearing out the party table and getting the couple their beverages and meals in a timely manner. Finally, 20 'til 9pm our appetizers, entrees, and sides came. We were able to enjoy our charred steak that was supposed to be medium well; dry and cold kind crab legs that was accompanied by butter that clearly has been sitting as it had begun to solidify. Than we waited another 25 mins for our bill. It was $325 for the worst service ever and a meh food quality. If we go back it will be to be with Somer. It took us nearly 2 hours to eat and throughout we observed her attention to her tables, genuine interest in her customers, timely service that I had to ask her her name upon us leaving. The bread they served consisted of croissant, sourdough and some other slices. The croissant was a little tough which to me must have been microwaved. I ordered the calamari, lobster bisque and a side of fries. My hubby ordered the buttermilk chicken, side of broccoli and macaroni and cheese. The lobster bisque was perfectly seasoned not salty and very creamy while the calamari was tender and delicious. However it does not look appetizing so it was deceivingly good. The French fries just like any fries. I tasted the Mac and cheese it was divine and the broccoli had the best crunch and it tasted good. The buttermilk chicken was a little bland for me but my husband love it. Juan our server was attentive and his assistant was always on top of everything making sure our glass was never empty. I've dined at Sonoma Cellar a few times over the years and it's a fantastic experience with good food and excellent service. I have never, ever gotten food I didn't like or service that wasn't amazing. They do things true old-school steakhouse style by offering the meats and sides a la carte. There's bread service (which is fantastic, don't let anyone tell you the bread here isn't amazing, even if it's bought. They make the right decision to buy this bread, if that's the case, so props still given). There are classic steakhouse options, like shrimp cocktail, Caesar salad and mashed potatoes with some newer modern ideas sprinkled in (I'm looking at you street corn). Old school/fine dining service is also included. You get a server and a busser (or maybe server assistant) for your table so you never will run out of water or drinks and plates get removed quickly. The food is awesome, so why the 4 stars? Why isn't it my favorite steakhouse that I frequent more often? I'm not a fan of the pricing here. I know, I know, it's a hotel and they charge more in general but I do think that when directly compared to it's category of peers, the prices here are too high. If I'm going to pay $55 for a rib-eye, I want more than half an inch of width. You could say I like them thicker than longer... I wasn't going for it, but "that's what she said!" But don't let this stop you from coming by. Seriously, the service here is STELLAR and the ambiance is great for any occasion. read more

We noticed the great reviews that we decided to dine here and there were available reservations. We arrived on time and was quickly seated. The hostess was nice. The server walked by and asked if I wanted steak sauce and I said no that I already asked for salt & pepper. Lastly the Salmon was not good in my opinion. We are frequent guests here for family celebrations and are never disappointed. We try to request Poom as our server each time because she's so friendly and attentive. This time was no different. We ordered shrimp cocktail and bacon wrapped shrimp for apps and got wedge and Caesar salads. It was all so delicious we could have stopped there. We got bone in ribeyes and a porterhouse. My rib eye was a little fatty but still delicious. My husband originally asked for medium well but was told that would be almost no pink so he ordered medium. He should've stuck with medium well though bc the medium was more medium rare and not how he prefers his steak. Still enjoyed it though. We got baked potatoes, the crispy potato, asparagus, Brussel sprouts, and grilled mushrooms as sides - all were delicious. This is a great steakhouse located inside sunset station casino. The seating and tables are very comfortable and all of the wait staff we encountered were friendly and professional. There were 3 in my party, we all ordered our favorite cuts of steak! The steaks were all cooked to perfection, and absolutely delicious. We chose our own sides and they were delicious as well. They have a great cocktail menu as well as an extensive wine menu. We had 6 PM reservations on a Friday night and arrived about 20 minutes early and we're seated immediately but then realized we must've gotten there just in time because the restaurant filled up pretty quickly. Had i known i would have asked for it. I hate hamburgers. So just a heads up if you order the burger it does not come with cheese and it will come with lettuce onion and tomato. I wanted to try Sonoma Cellar in the hopes that I'd find a good steakhouse close to home. There wasn't anything about the experience that would make me want to return. Station Casinos must be the common link because Hank's at GVR was a fail on two occasions. On a Wednesday night they were very busy. Wednesdays are senior day which brings in the crowds so I'd recommend going another day. We only waited about five minutes to be seated with a reservation though. Let's start with the good. The Petite Filet wasn't steakhouse quality, but was good. I liked that they char the outside with tender meat inside. My Peach Sour, made with Bourbon was tasty and not too sweet. A nice balance of a little sweetness with the bold flavor of the Bourbon. The service was friendly and we didn't wait long for our food. The not so exciting part of the meal. The bread basket wasn't fresh or flavorful. Not something I think I've ever thought before at a steakhouse. The Mac & Cheese and Charred Corn sides were okay, but were more buffet quality than high end restaurant quality. Lastly, the Chocolate Lava Cake that required searching for lava. I would be surprised if the exact same cake isn't also served at the buffet. It lacked flavor and was on the dry side. I would rate Sonoma Cellar better than Outback. I had the grass fed New York and it was a big disappointment. It was very fatty and I hated the way it was prepared. It taste like something I could have just fried in a pan. There was no flavor or seasoning. Tasted like it was fried in grease. Now, the sides were very good, except the baked potato. It was not very big and it was hard and bland. But the Mac and cheese was incredible. And the Mexican corn was delicious. Also the complimentary bread was wonderful! The croissant was probably the best thing I ate next to the corn. Wow, I frequent this Sunset casino and didn't know there was a fine dining restaurant. I am so happy to know this now and made a reservation at 7pm for 2 of us on a Monday. We showed up and were seated with the menus. The hostess was gracious and very nice. Our server was Summer and she was so down to earth and so happily smiling. This restaurant is beautiful and inviting. The decor is elegant and classy. The staff was so attentive and nice. We started with the prisoner blend and the napa cab 9oz of both. Bread was delivered and the basket had a variety of raisin slices, sour dough, croissants, and pretzels along with creamy butter. The breads were so delicious. We ordered the lobster bisque, French onion soup, gem salad, rib eye bone-in with an add-on lobster tail, salmon with mushrooms and cream of spinach, and a 1 pound order of King crab legs. The potato skins type thing were unique Had a creamy leek sauce over them. The elote corn was good. But don't pair well with the meal and I wouldn't order it again. The French onion soup was also a pass. I took the chocolate cake home and it was a little warm in the summer room temperature and was so melty and delicious. I've wanted to go back just for that.
