Let me start off by saying that I have been to several Sonora Prime's throughout Mexico. I went to the one in PV last night and I was very disappointed. I ordered a $150 ribeye cap and the chef plated the steak after cutting it with the grain of the meat, thus the meat just shredded when you tried to cut it. This wasn't a one off, they cut every steak on the table the same way. Someone needs to tell the chef how to cut the meat! As for the sides, two of them were cold. The avocado tar tar was excellent! Was in search for a steakhouse to celebrate my husband's birthday on our vacation & found this amazing spot. When we got seated, they immediately brought over this piping hot bean & cheese dip with chips, accompanied by some salsas & pico de gallo. I basically ate the entire dip because my husband's allergic to beans. But it was just too good & then downside of that for me was it made me full. We were seated in front of kitchen. Yelling in the kitchen right behind our backs the ENTIRE meal. Very loud and disturbing. Rarely saw the server and when we did we were extremely rushed through meal. Didn't have the steaks we wanted (all out) he recommended one to us and my husband asked waiter if it was fatty (he hates fatty steaks) he replied "no it's not fatty"...Very fatty, he couldn't even eat it. This was my first visit here recommended by my family. We came and were sat immediately. Wait staff was great and the atmosphere was deff groovy. The apps that came out were great. Unfortunately our main dishes were not so much. I ordered a ribeye and my wife got the fillet. Both way undercooked and we received a hot plate to cook our meat but it didn't do the job. Our salad we shared was the iceberg wedge. Way too much dressing. After we left we were told a new owner took over and had changed things there, none for the better. We won't be going back. Hopefully we'll find a better steakhouse on our next trip out here. read more

We have been going to Sonora and it was typically a highlight of the trip. We eat out a lot, go to a lot of steakhouses and are fair and balanced in our reviews. We saw deterioration last year, but thought it was just an off night. Unfortunately not. The service was slow, had difficulty handling basic requests in English, have eliminated the salt block but miraculously found one after much prodding. This is necessary because steaks are so undercooked. The salad and spinach was incredibly skimpy and when ordered wine, they subbed a 2024 vintage for a 2020 vintage without a price concession. The whole night felt like a money grab and left a sour taste. After cooking on the salt block, the steak was decent and the shrimp dish appetizer was tasty. That said, paying NY or Chicago prices for the experience and food was no where near worth it. Later Sonora ....or Casa Prime....no matter we are done. read more

Recently visited Sonora Prime in PVR, because I've been in Mexico City many times. Although the prices are on par with Mexico City, the ambiance is more "Cancun". Loud, drunk, and not local. It takes away from the dining experience. The service was fine. Not great, not bad. Appetizers were ok, drinks watered down, and the meat was alright. I originally marked for four stars, but am actually changing it to three. Kinda disappointed in the Puerto Vallarta location. We couldn't have been farther from the DJ, and still couldn't hear anything. If you're looking for the Sonora grill prime experience of Mexico City, you're not getting it here. The team that works here made it a seamless experience, had great personalities, and made our dinner so enjoyable. The food, was next level. Well damn, that was short lived. I don't think I have ever dropped a rating so quickly. My sister joined my mother and I for dinner on a Friday night. For the first time I deviated from my brisket tacos. My sister felt disrespected because she didn't want 2 of the same drink because she didn't care for it but she was told she had to have the same drink again. We were seated outside and there is a noticeable difference in service from the waistsff being seated here versus in the restaurant itself. They were slow to take our orders, forgot things we asked for several times. It was a very disappointing experience and the food wasn't as good as it had been just a few days earlier. This is one of our favorite spots when we come to Puerta Vallarta. Yes, it can be on the pricey side for dining, but it is well worth it with the food and dining experience. We first came here because we were staying right down the street at the Marriott. It was an easy walk (even at night), and we came late, which was fine with seating. Sonora Grill Prime is not like the typical steakhouses you see in the States, which are dark and intimate. This restaurant is a scene! There are people celebrating birthdays, large parties, and even couples spread throughout the restaurant. The second time we came was when we saw what it was like when it was packed, and the music was going--very much a fun place for dinner. Getting to the food now, they have the best aquachile in Puerta Vallarta. It is spicy enough to feel the kick but so flavorful that you want to keep shoveling it in your mouth. Each time we have been, we get the tableside brisket tacos for two. The brisket with the fresh tortillas is next-level delicious. I use various sauces they provide on the table; each bite is a flavor bomb. Lastly, the service is top notch like most places in Puerta Vallarta. While I understand the importance of tipping, such remarks are entirely unacceptable and reflect poorly on the establishment. Despite this unfortunate incident, I must acknowledge that not all staff members behaved in this manner. Some were attentive and courteous, ensuring that our needs were met throughout the meal. In conclusion, Sonora Prime Vallarta offers exceptional food and drinks, making it a destination worth visiting for culinary enthusiasts. However, management should address the issue of unprofessional behavior among certain staff members to ensure that all guests have a pleasant dining experience. In speaking with the manager on the floor, he simply dismissed my complaint and told me enough was enough and we left the restaurant. Went down to the marina for a steak dinner at Sonora Grill Prime with our dear friends. At first glance, it was a WOW! The decor is hot and sexy with a full glass wall of cubbies loaded with alcohol. There were multiple TVs with sports games. A DJ was playing his music. We were greeted immediately with hosts and hostesses to make our experience welcoming. We were seated at a lovely table and drink and food menus were presented and explained. Our waiter brought over the board of all the steaks they offered. We had wine and cocktails to start and a delicious Buratta and tomato salad with truffle oil and a fabulous goat cheese, cranberry, sweetened nut salad. We all ordered the prime ribeye steaks and it arrived with a hot stone to finish cooking. Sides included were creamed spinach and a corn cheese concoction. We also had roasted asparagus, mashed potatoes and roasted paprika potatoes. We topped it off with vanilla ice cream cones. Everything was delicious and service was attentive.
