It will be legendary and is located right in Bergen County in Ridgewood. In January, I had the most amazing cookie there. I still think about it. It was better than Levain. The dark chocolate walnut cookie was simply mind blowingly amazing. Excellent dark chocolate, ridiculously dense, rich and chocolately without being bitter. The exterior was crispy while the interior was moist and studded with walnuts. My only mistake was only buying one cookie because my husband kept asking me for more bites. I love the man, but sometimes sharing really sucks. I also purchased an almond croissant and I just can't believe there is any bakery that makes a better almond croissant in this galaxy. I am just so enamored with the baked goods at Sook and am beyond friggin thrilled that they are so close in Ridgewood. For some reason, I was thrown by the name: Sook Pastry. I thought it was an Asian style bakery. The pastry chef/owner is Korean and trained at Payard Patisserie on the UES. This is a French bakery! I should mention this is a small cafe that has about 15 seats and makes crepes, so I will be heading back and updating this review in the future. Loooove this place, have been going here for years. While it is a bit pricey, you can always find a great dessert when you're craving one. Some favorites include the franklin, their key lime Pie, their baked croissants (especially in the morning) and the bubble tea! This cafe is a great place to hang out with friends, there's always people here. Lots of drink options and they have these tiny little chocolates when you just want something small. read more

Nice French bakery that's perfect to hit after dinner for a sweet treat. Walkable from most Ridgewood restaurants but there is a municipal lot right across the street if you're too full to hoof it. Make sure you grab a seat prior to placing your order at the counter, as this place packs up! Their coffee is exceptionally good and they didn't look at me crooked when I asked for decaf. The macarons (mini meringue sandwich "cookies") were crazy-expensive ($7.75 for 3...what?!) but after learning all the work that goes into making them, Sook Pastry has been forgiven. My girl Jill P loved her fancy chocolate croissant. This will now be my go-to Ridgewood dessert place! read more

This cafe features reasonable prices, carefully crafted menu items, good service and is very clean. Open prep area for the bakery is surrounded by glass producing fresh pastries and other baked goods with a variety of toppings. Best cup of coffee in Ridgewood, I prefer the illy Americana coffee, great flavor and balance with a light roast. You can't find illy in many places and I find myself craving a cup every time I'm in town. Sook also has home made soups, fresh salads and baguette sandwiches, crepes, ice cream and sorbet are made on premises as well! Sook's is my without a thought my go to when there's a birthday, I just need a cake, or when my fruit tart loving aunt is in town. There's obviously more, including crepes and chocolates, and they're all done well. I've never had a complaint about quality with Sook's, and have more than often been pleasantly surprised by what I get. Somethings you even see the owner and namesake herself behind the counter, plus they almost always have the NBA network running on their one TV, so what's not to love. An additional note is that they serve Illy's branded coffee and espressos, which tastes solid. Give Sook's a try for a special occasion, as an after dinner desert, or just as a nice outing. read more

Ridgewood has always felt kind of bougie to me, and let's be real, it kind of is. Amongst all of the boutiques and niche shops is this hidden gem - Sook Pastry - which is definitely bougie, but also definitely worth the hype. I had a small latte and an eclair with fresh fruit and whipped cream. I enjoyed it immensely - there was nothing game changing about any of it, but it was perfectly executed. The latte didn't resort to syrups but was just a really, really good cup of coffee. The eclair was light and well-balanced. Overall, I was really pleased with my choices. I brought the Broad back home for my parents, and though I didn't try it personally they said that it was definitely an interesting dessert and very subtle, despite all the tropical flavors. My sister always gets the almond croissant and speaks highly of it. I paid a little bit less than 6 dollars for a latte and eclair - a coffee of the same size at Starbucks and a pastry would have been on par with that or slightly more expensive, so I don't think it's fair to say that the pastries at Sook are expensive or unreasonably priced. As for the desserts that are in the $5.50 range - you pay for quality. They use Valrhona chocolate, they make everything in house. Maybe it's because I'm an (amateur) baker myself and I know how expensive ingredients are, how much labor goes into making stuff like mousses and meringues. So I think complaints that Sook is expensive are unfounded. I was actually surprised to come on here and read complaints. You're getting Manhattan quality in the suburbs, in a cute cafe, with pretty good service. Would definitely recommend. read more

I was walking upto the storefront and immediately saw a sign that said "illy" on it. Cue: Squealing. I am immediately transported back to Italy... a country I am deeply missing at this moment, along with pretty much all of Europe. When you walk into Sook Pastry, it feels like you're leaving the 'burbs of Bergen and walking into a little slice of European heaven. And what do I see first? An entire wall of illy! I kid you not (check out my photo). Attentive and genuinely helpful service, fancy sweet treats, and a posh selection of teas ($15.71 for two pastries and two teas)... It was like Europe all over again. I know, I'm raving about illy coffee, and I didn't even have any. It was late, and I needed to sleep. :( But my next visit for sure will involve caffeine. Sidenote: I saw they also served crepes and bubble tea. I can see crepes fitting the whole cafe thing, but bubble tea? Sounds a little bit like an identity crisis to me. Nonetheless! The pastries are quite good, as is the hot chocolate. A nice selection of sweets and everything is fresh. The only downside to this store is the owner, Izzy, who can be a bit rude and gruff. While waiting on line and having a private conversation in a low tone of voice with my g/f about one of the pastries in the showcase not looking as good as it usually does, Izzy (who happened to be waking past us) butted in and made a dismissive and snide comment. I want something different. If this sounds like you, might I humbly recommend Sook Pastry in Ridgewood. Like others have mentioned, their desserts transcend mere food and enter into the realm of art. Their presentation is flawless and beautiful. Great coffee, juices and cappuccino too. But what I like best are the crepes and they are awesome! My fav is one with goat cheese (is there really anyone who doesn't like goat cheese?), mushrooms, spinach and something else that I can't quite remember but I love it. The atmosphere is most definitely coffee shop/cafe casual and they do get quite busy but the staff is attentive and if there is a line, it moves quickly. Sook, I owe you my life. Well, not really but I feel like I owe you my life. My Dad's 70th Birthday celebration was quickly approaching and the procrastinator that I am waited until the week of to find a pastry shop and place an order for a cake. The best part of being in a semi unknown location of NJ* is that you can make last minute orders for cakes that taste phenomenal. Here's the scoop, I called Sook, told them I was looking for a cake and asked for a recommendation. I had a feeling this would be hit or miss but after reviewing their site and finding out this establishment was opened by 3 alumni of Payard Pâtisserie of the UES, I was some what relieved and confidently placed my trust into their hands. I ordered The Franklin for 10 people ($35) - Dark Chocolate Mousse (64%) with Berry Cremeux. It was absolutely delectable. The dark chocolate wasn't too bitter and paired extremely well with the semi tart berry filling. Everyone and their mom was raving about the cake and I shined like a star over my brother who had to pay the $600+ dinner tab**. I also requested they put, "Happy Birthday Dad" on the cake and it was written out beautifully. I happened to be in North Jersey on Sunday and was in the mood for a pastry before heading home. We ordered cheese bread and vanilla walnut. I am ashamed to admit that on the way home, my brother and I ate both loaves between us, that's how good they were. The cheese bread was moist, perfectly salted and savory. The vanilla walnut was phenomenal, my mouth is watering right now thinking about how amazing it tasted. I'd love to come back, but I'm afraid I'd gain ten pounds because I could easily polish off an entire loaf of their delicious breads! read more

So I was a bit salty about this place when I first went a few years ago but it has since grown on me. I just assumed it was another overpriced pastry shop but they have proven to be a worthwhile stop. Pros: Delicious pastry. Like really really delicious. Oh and super beautiful to look at. Try the apricot tart. Great bubble tea. I've had the Thai flavor. Great design and food is served on real plates with real silverware. Gives it a less casual feel. Cons: Ridgewood parking. Pretty high prices but I am willing to pay them because the items are unique. I've only tasted one thing that I wasn't thrilled with here and it was the key lime tart. My mom took my cousins & I here and treated us out. We each chose something different, lemon tart, a mini cake (the chocolate one, there was more to it but I forgot :[ ), a croissant with ham & cheese, mocha (maybe hazelnut, maybe chocolate..) macaroon, these huge chocolate balls of chocolate nuts and maybe .. some cream thing. I have been to this pastry restaurant many times in the past few years. It is always extremely busy, but for good reason. The line out the door may seem daunting, but one bite of any of their fantastic pastries or crepes will have you continually wanting more. In my most recent visit, I came with a few friends. We each ordered separately and, as we just had lunch, I only ordered a matcha bubble tea. It does not seem to be on the sign, but they were good enough to make it for me anyway. It was very creamy and delicious as I expected it to be. The tapioca was probably the freshest I have ever had. It was also just blended to perfection. I thoroughly enjoyed the beverage. My friends also ordered other bubble teas and pastries. We scarfed everything down on a bench outside, as it was an unseasonably warm day. In conclusion, it was yet another lovely visit filled with thrilling pastry eye candy and delicious tea. Would definitely recommend visiting if you are ever in the Ridgewood area. read more

I usually love this place, but we came for dessert and the table next to us outdoors had patrons smoking, ruining our ability to eat. The rules for outdoor dining in NJ right now clearly state that smoking is prohibited in area where people are eating and drinking. So, I politely went inside to inform the workers that someone was smoking. Some gentleman, I don't know if it was the manager or what, immediately interjects and says "There's nothing we can do about it". They proceeded to tell him, although he should have already known, that the new holes of outdoor dining prohibit smoking in our dining areas. He then replies "well I can't enforce it". I'm so disgusted right now. Experience is ruined and these guys don't know the rules apparently, I miss attitude is total garbage. Hello!? Looking for great crepes, coffee, and amazing fruit tarts!? GET YOU BUTT HERE! I've been a fan of Didier Dumas at Nyack, NY. Never thought I would taste crepes better than Didier's... Until last Saturday. What a great place... No joke. The fruit tart had berries IN the crust!!! What!? You heard me! And also! The blueberries seemed so fresh, I had a blueberry juice explosion in my mouth! Like totally! AND THE CREPES!!! Were crunchy and with the right amount of Nutella and strawberries! Yes it was Christmas time but I placed the order 4 days before to pick up on Christmas Eve. When we opened the box to serve the pastries at my sister's they were not as pictured on the menu. We did all we could to figure out which ones they were as I had kept the photo menu. They were wrong. When I went back to Sook 2 days after Christmas they told me the menu pictures were old. At $7.25 a pastry I would have thought they would have been more accommodating to an embarrassed customer. They will not see my business again. read more
