    Pork Belly

Is this what dreams are made of? Intoxicating aroma of caramelized pork, umami flavor, juicy meat, and perfectly charred edges? Must be! The pork jowl and pork belly are DIVINE - clearly high quality. Workers hand us a sticker with specs about the preparation and aging process, which is oddly charming and shows how much pride they take in their meat. The staff even cooks everything for us, so we can sit back and stuff our faces. The sides are great too. Tangy pickled or fermented veggies, sweet pineapple, mushrooms, and soups help cut through all that richness from the fat. The pork and kimchi soup especially hits - it's super comforting and balances out the meal. This is also a great alternative if you're craving BBQ but don't have the stomach space for AYCE. These portions leave us full and satisfied every time. Overall, an amazing spot for a casual, pork-centric feast!

We're visiting friends and they took us out to dinner to this place in Garden Grove. It's located in a small strip mall with some parking along the front. There's several combo options as well as other kinds of meat. The food came with banchan which was freely replenished and two kinds of soup. The meats were first class and the aged pork was sooo flavorful. I've never had pork jowl before and it was deliciously fatty. Our hosts ordered the cheese risotto- at first it sounded kinda strange to have it in a Korean Bbq place but wow!! It was so good. You MUST order this! The meat is cooked for you by the staff which is a nice touch and my clothes didn't get smoky. They must have good fan and ventilation. The staff was very nice despite the place being super busy. Recommend this place for quality Korean bbq!

First samgyeopsal spot I've tried in the US and Sookdal really did a great job. Sookdal focuses heavily on pork, and you can tell that's their specialty, though they also offer some beef options. The menu is set up with different sets you can choose from, each giving you a variety of cuts. Once you order, the servers handle the grilling for you, which makes the whole experience super smooth and relaxed. What stood out most to me was the huge selection of banchan (sides) and sauces they bring out. It's not just a side detail - it genuinely elevates the meal. You can mix and match different sauces and sides with each bite of pork or beef, which keeps every bite feeling different and prevents the meal from getting repetitive. That's especially important with kbbq, where things can sometimes start to taste the same halfway through. Special note: order the risotto - phenomenal.

Sookdal is a great spot if you're trying to upgrade out of AYCE and into a higher quality option for meat. Sookdal is also great if you're trying to understand premium pork belly, compared to your standard pork belly. The meat here is aged, flavorful, and tender. I think what makes this place especially good is the variety of banchan, or side dishes. Pickled garlic leaves were my absolute favorite! There are so many combinations that you can make throughout your meal to make it interesting and fun. The servers are also very attentive about cooking the meat for you so that you don't have to worry about anything other than enjoying yourself. Wash everything down with an ice cold beer and you're in for a good time! Parking is plentiful in the plaza, and wait times are pretty manageable without a reservation, even on weekends for dinner.

We came to Sookdal with a larger group and we ordered two combos, I believe it was combo c and e. It ended up being just enough food for everyone, which worked out perfectly for our party size. One of our combos included ribeye, and it was so delicious. It was so tender and definitely the highlight of the meal for me. The meat quality of this restaurant is excellent. I would definitely come back for

Sookdal has been on my saved list for awhile, and I've finally got a chance to visit during special occasion. I'm usually a bit skeptical about having just pork BBQ, but high quality pork does make a big difference. The store is clean with strong smoke fan. The staff here are really nice and intentive, always cook the meat to perfection. We got ourselves a pork combo along with Risotto with Cream Sauce and Grilled Cheese. Though aged pork could be really fatty, the fat was firm and didn't feel too much. Besides the high quality and tasty pork, the risotto was also surprisingly good and not too creamy. And you can't go wrong with pieces of cheese grilled to perfection. One of the side dishes we loved the most was the pickled garlic leaves which went so well with pork, or any cut of fatty meat. Overall, my experience here was really good with lots of delicious food. High quality, aged pork really made such big differences. Can't wait to visit again!

My favorite kbbq in the area. I wish they had a yelp waitlist because the wait can be long around dinner time. It's loud and they seem understaffed but the food makes up for it. The pork belly was juicy, crispy, and delicious. All of their soups are refreshing and yummy. I want to bring everyone I know here.

I recently visited Sookdal Garden Grove and it was definitely worth the wait! We put our name down on the old-school pen-and-paper waitlist and waited about 45 minutes, but it went by pretty quickly. Once seated, they started us off with a great selection of banchan, including kimchi, pickled radish paper, and fresh collard greens. We ordered Combo C, which they said feeds 3-4 people, and it was the perfect amount for our group. It came with pork collar, pork belly, jowl, stew, and cheese--we chose the kimchi soup for our stew option. Everything was delicious. The meats were juicy, tender, and full of flavor, especially paired with the bean paste and the variety of sauces they provided. Service was attentive throughout our meal, and the bathrooms were clean, which is always a plus. Overall, a great KBBQ experience. I'd definitely come back!

I've wanted to try this place a while back, but never had the time to do it. We finally came here for dinner on a Saturday night. Arrived at 5: 20pm and there was only two parties ahead of us. Not bad! We were seated and from the way the table was setup, it gave an authentic Korean restaurant vibe. We went ahead and ordered their Combo B meal ($69) which had three types of meat, kimchi soup, and a soup of our choice. Restaurant staff were friendly and attentive. Pork Jowl tasted tender and the cooks were able to prepare it just right. Skirt meat was also tasty. Portions were just perfect for a party of 2. We had a great time dining in here. Will definitely come back again.

Came here with my bf on a Wednesday night around 7pm - the store wasn't very crowded towards later in the night when we were there. The store was clean and servings were all set up when we got there. We got the Combo B with pork belly and soybean soup which was delicious. Our server cooked each type of meat super carefully, pork jowl was cooked just right with the right crispy edges but the skirt meat was a bit tough. We also ordered the cold noodles - but we were not a fan. Too sour and not enough flavor compared to other spots. Id skip this! We were recommended the cheese risotto by family so well be trying that nice time. Very solid pork belly spot I'd recommend & great for big groups!!

Saw this place on a whim and was pleasantly surprised. They specialize in aged pork BBQ and let me tell you now, it was delicious! Their waiter cooks for you, so definitely a plus, which makes the meat so tender and the fat, mouth-watering. Together with banchan, it was THE perfect joy for my mouth. It's tucked in a very small business complex so parking can be a nightmare and get there early because it will get crowded for dinner. It is not AYCE but their combo gives you plenty of meats along with their choice kimchi stew or bean paste stew, and a very light pork broth, and also their unlimited banchan - heaven! It is a small restaurant as well, so seating is limited and tight but if you time it well before dinner rush, you'll be seated right away to enjoy their fatty aged pork! Wet aged for 8 days
    James K.

Solid Korean bbq with a twist. They age their pork 8 days to give it a little different taste and texture. Pork belly and Jowl was my favorite. In Korea tried a 30 day aged pork belly, this had slight similarity but can't taste the aging distinctly with only 8 days but it does something to make it taste better for sure. Service was GREAT. Legit grilling techniques. Would def be a regular stop when in OC

Sookdal is an absolute pork lover's heaven. The quality of the aged pork here is top-tier, and having it barbecued to perfection right in front of you makes the experience even better. Every cut was incredibly tender, juicy, and packed with flavor. The pork pairs perfectly with the sauces and side dishes, making every bite feel intentional and well balanced. Service is brisk and attentive. The staff keeps things moving and makes sure the grill is always handled properly. Ambiance is your typical KBBQ joint: lively, casual, and all about the food. The only downside: you and your clothes will smell like BBQ for the rest of the day. Pro tip: leave your expensive bag and jacket at in the car unless you want them permanently scented like grilled pork. Still 100% worth it. Would happily come back again and again with the pork-loving foodies!

Do you cook your own food?

no, the servers cook for you because the pieces are thick so they know the right time of cooking so it wont be raw when you eat it.

Does the combos come with the wet age pork or just regular pork?

all of their pork is wet-aged i believe, as that is their specialty!

    Are gift certificates available?

Not full on certificates, unless you asked (i havent) but there is little papers telling you what cut the pork is and how long its aged.

    Can i make a reservation?

    The don't take reservation.

    Cool your own food?

    wat do you mean

    Open on memorial day?

ALWAYS OPEN except thanksgiving christmas nd new year :)

    Is outdoor seating still available?

    No, They don't offer outdoor

Hi! Are you guys open on labor day?

They open everyday like there is no today

    Do they offer lettuce wraps?

no lettuce or rice wraps. GARLIC LEAF WRAP is outstanding that u wont need such things. radish wrap yes

On average, how many adults could a combo feed? 2? 3?

Portions are on the smaller side so I'd say 2, unless you have adults who don't need a lot then 3 is possible.

How is the portion size? How big are the combos?

The portion is small, not allot like other bbq places.

Is this place all you can eat?

No. Kinda expensive place but worth it to try.

Does this place only serve pork? Is there beef? Is their beef good?

Yes they have beef brisket and ribeye as alternative options

It was so tender and the cuts had a nice fatty marbling. This tray comes with their Saigon cilantro sauce which really enhanced the flavor. It serves about 8 people. We were honestly impressed and would definitely order this again. I also ordered the Brisket Feast for 5 and the Pandana pudding. The brisket feast comes with 3 lbs Smoked Brisket, 1 qt Shells & Cheese, 1 qt Sesame Slaw, 1 qt Mapo Chili, and 1 Cornbread. I added the pickled red onions because the reviews I read all praised this item. It's a great choice. It paired perfectly with the different meat. The Mac n cheese was a basic Mac n cheese but we still enjoyed it with the other heavy flavors. It was a nice balance in my opinion. The pandan banana pudding had a nice vanilla nutty flavor. I definitely want to try the other desserts, the brisket sandwich, and rice bowls that I saw as I entered to pick up my order. We loved everything. I would definitely order these items again. Don't expect your typical American barbecue. I loved the Asian inspired flavors- it added such a unique spin on American comfort food. This place was PACKED! I enjoyed seeing the family photos and notable restaurant mentions decorated on the walls. I would say this place is definitely family-friendly and they had outdoor picnic table style seating with a few limited seating options inside. I had to drive around for parking. They do have designated lots in the neighborhood. Expect to wait or order online if you don't want to wait in that long line. It was Father's Day, so I can't comment on what the line is like on a regular day.

All the tables were full and there was one party of 11 just ahead of us. Our wait for a table was like 30 minutes or so. Once we were up we were guided to a table towards the back for five. Our server asked if we been here before and if we wanted anything else besides water to drink. My brother and his fiance split a full order of the beef ribs and side order of sauteed garlic green beans. My mom and step dad split a full order of beef ribs while I ordered a full rack of baby back ribs which came with two side orders. I picked coleslaw and onion rings which I shared with the family. And they even commented that it was better than the other bbq places we been to. Definitely will return and highly recommend.

*** SCAM ALERT *** I…read moredon't use the word "SCAM" lightly, but that's what this was. My adult son called in a $281.62 order off the menu for Mother's Day. They would not accept the order or payment over the phone because the order was "too big." They asked that someone go there and pay up front for the entire order. Since it was the evening before Mother's Day, I drove to them and paid for the order. Yes, I was also presented with a minumum 20% TIP screen, which I declined. When I got there at pickup time (4:00pm) on Mother's Day, the price changed to $325.51. I was told that, for some reason, they had cut about 50% larger portions than the menu specified (see the line items, which should have been 1 lb. each), so they charged me for the difference ($325.51 - $281.62) which was $43.89 (about 50% more for the 2 items they cut heavier). No, there was no mention when I placed the order that the total cost might change due to extra meat. Neither is it shown on their web site or printed menus. When I protested, there was no option. If I don't pay the $43.89 difference, I don't get the Mother's Day food. After about 20 minutes of bickering at the counter with two different clerks (note the time stamp differences on the credit card slips), I was given my original order, with a net price reduction of ($281.62 - $254.93) $26.69. My persistence had paid off. On a positive note, the cook did, twice, walk up to me and quietly apologize for what was going on. I know many folks would have folded in this situation, but that's not my nature. I don't stand for dishonesty. Yes, it was embarrassing, other clients in line were not happy (I let them skip ahead of me so as not to inconvenience them). None of them had price increases. I don't know if the clerks wanted a tip because the management doesn't pay them much, or it this goes deeper and is standard operating procedure that assumes most clients will simply approve of the overage and pay up. In any case, from this client's point of view, this is a SCAM! When it was all over, I took my 11 and 12 year old grandsons (who had been sitting patiently waiting for grandpa to pay) and my food package to the car, drove home and proudly presented the meat to my family. After all, I am a hunter-gatherer; and the food was great!

We went when prices were still like $18.99/each AYCE at night but now I heard it's $23/each, which is understandable but unfortunate for us students. Both times we went, the portions each order was solid and the meat quality was good, better than expected. We ate tons of meat and some of us ordered sides, the wait for the orders weren't too long and the grill was being changed frequently. The staff were nice and the service was relatively quick even when they were busy. One order seemed to be forgotten but another server checked in on us and they went back to make sure everything was proper, which was nice. When I went with my friend, the two of us were challenging each other and we ended up being the very last party to leave. Unfortunately, we ordered more than we could eat due to our competitiveness and it was already past 12 p.m. They decided not to charge us the leftover fee so I tipped more to compensate. Shoutout to the kind staff that watched me try to scarf down the food at the end and seeing a duo last longer than a party of 11 . I recommend going here late at night to try out their, now $23, AYCE from 10 p.m to 12 p.m and note that their last call is 11:30 p.m. Another thing is that you have to sign up on the waitlist via their tablet in-person, so come around 9:15 p.m if you're going with a large party and hit up the H-Mart across while waiting!

The staff were attentive and came around regularly to check on us and did grill changes regularly. The types of meat they include are pretty standard. The quality of the meat was good! Everything tasted fresh and clean. I also liked that they have a self serve bar where you can get the usual ban chan side dishes for yourself. I did enjoy that they include tempura squash, which is pretty unique for me, as I've never seen an item like that at other kbbq places. Overall, food was great and I'd come back. This is a good place to get kbbq without breaking the bank. I do wish the ventilation was a bit better though, as the smoke from the grill did get into all of our faces, but this is really just a quibble. I would happily come back!

Each skewer came with decently sized portion, although some of it does shrink when cooking. Depending on which meat you order, some will take a while to cook (i.e chicken skin), so would plan according. Each meal comes with kim chi and radishes which paired well with our skewers. Overall, it was a good meal. Although they primarily specialize in skewers (including lamb, beef, pork, chicken, seafood, and vegetables) there's also main dishes you can order such as dry spicy hot pot, fried rice, and stir fry beef udon. The generally vibe inside probably leans towards large group outings where you order soju or sake with some friends and just have a good time. However, it also a good place to bring family or kids and just enjoying watching the skewers rotate on the grill. The service here was good and the skewers came out pretty quickly. I could see myself coming back here again.
