Delicious pizza and very good pastrami sandwich, this was my first time here and i definitely will be coming back!

First, don't judge the conclusions of this review based on the number of "stars" I am awarding. It's a fear of grade inflation, on my part--and this place is "A-OK". Second, while I had gone to Sorrento's "occasionally" before Covid, I have increased my purchase frequency during this pandemic episode. Why the increase in purchases now? Well, I can't "dine in" a restaurant nowadays; and as a general statement, pasta doesn't necessarily travel well for "take out". When pasta leaves the restaurant, it continues to cook and can get soggy if it spends too much time in transit. Sorrento's is really close to my house. I call ahead; arrive at about the time the order is coming out of the kitchen; pay and quickly return home. By this time, our family has tried almost all of the pasta dishes available on their menu. The taste profiles of the pasta dishes aren't "cutting edge"--but all of them taste very good, and have been reliably consistent each visit. In addition, the value received for the price paid--in terms of portion size and ingredients (think selection of protein) is very good. Sorrento's states that the restaurant has been family owned and operated for 53 years. Good food, good value, consistency and reliability explain why. read more

My husband and I were in the area on a Saturday night and found this spot on Yelp. The restaurant has a nice homey feel to it. We ended up ordering way too much food--gnocchi, spaghetti, and Sorrento's Special pizza--and took home a bunch of leftovers. The garlic bread was served warm and nicely toasted. The spaghetti and gnocchi dishes were huge, but the sauces seemed to lack depth. The gnocchi wasn't as soft and pillowy as I expected, but I liked the amount of cheese they added to this dish. The pizza came with pepperoni, sausage, bell peppers, mushrooms, and anchovies. It was very cheesy, and the crust was thick with a nice chew to it. Service was good. The entire staff was very friendly and the food didn't take long to come out. This restaurant is located in a plaza, so there was plenty of free parking. The food here isn't necessarily authentic, but it's a good spot for big portions of Italian food at a decent price. I preferred the pizza over the pasta dishes. read more

I was told it was great by everyone who has grown up in Pedro, personally it wasn't for me. Pizza was not as enjoyable as other pizza joints in town. Decided to try their in house dining and one visit was enough. Never went back. I feel like I get better tasting food and spend less at other places. Drove down to the South Bay just to take my mother to dinner for her birthday, Sorrento's was her choice! Walking up to Sorrento's you really do not know what to expect it is in a tired old strip mall. Looks are very deceiving my friends. Inside it is quaint, nothing terribly special, until the BREAD hits the table! Mange' my friends... The FOUR of us started with an Antipasta salad and it completely satisfied us all. Following the salad, we EACH mistakenly ordered our own individual meal, we absolutely could have shared! We each took home half of our meals. Good for me I had lunch Monday afternoon! YIPEEE.... All of the staff including the girl who greeted us as we entered, were all just fabulous! Out waiter was very helpful, explaining all the dishes and offering suggestions. After the magical visit to Point Vincente Interpretive Center, we felt hungry for something to tide us over for a late dinner. There wasn't much out that way in the way of food outlets until we came upon a small commercial area where we spied a "Pizza" sign among the shops in a corner strip. The place was Sorrento's, a nicely appointed Italian restaurant with full menu in addition to tomato pie offerings. We all liked the idea of eating a slice to take the edge off and bringing the rest home for later consumption. They had a "Half & Half" deal, and settled on sausage and mushrooms. 15 minutes later the steaming disk arrived on its aluminum tray. It looked great. Taste wasn't bad, either. The crust was crunchy firm at its outer circumference and had a pleasant mildly salty taste. The central pie was moister due to the wetness of the top load; still good, but unable to support itself without a finger to prop it up. The tomato sauce was very good with mild sweetness, but the plentiful sausage was a bit salty for my buds. The fresh shrooms were fine, and should have been our choice for the whole pie. The weight of the slice was more than just a snack, and turned out to be a belly stuffer in its own right. So, we ate three slices and carried 5 home in a box. When we received the check, it had a "service charge" of a buck something for using a credit card that we hadn't noticed on the menu. When we inquired, the server explained it was on the menu as well as a sign by the cashier. We hadn't seen either, and thought it poor form to charge people extra for using credit, when we would not have been there at all but for the ability to use it. I guess they prefer fewer customers who only use cash. Seemed like a net loss to us. Minus a star for bad policy. read more

This review is based only on pizza take-out. Thankfully for Yelp, we found this place, said to be the best pizza place in town! The Yelp pics of the menu did not show a Hawaiian pizza for order, per se but when I called and ordered a medium one, they said 15 minutes! The pizza was ready on time and weighed a ton! Was this a medium with 8 big slices? It was $24, the only real downfall. There was so much cheese on it though, wow. And the good cheese. Not the runny kind. The crust was good, there was plenty of good, tangy sauce and the toppings were quite good. Quality ham, plenty of pineapple. It was piping hot when we picked it up. The smell was incredible. All.. the.. way.. home! I loved the Yelp pics of the pastas. Next time we come to beautiful San Pedro, we will perhaps come without our pooch and be able to dine in! UPDATE - came to town again on another weekend and got a 10 inch personal special everyone keeps posting about! WOW! Delicious! $16 - better price than a medium which just had so much pizza involved! I love their pepperoni pizza. Sometime wish it cooked a tad bit longer but last time I ordered well done it was a kinda burned lol. Either way, I actually love the flavor and don't know why people bag on this place. The calamari is good too but not sure if I love the sauce it comes with. Still keep this place as a go-to. This is my favorite family Italian restaurant in San Pedro. Great food, always friendly staff and energetic atmosphere, and both close and casual enough for us to be a quick decision to come when picking a place. Their pizza is among the best, but their pasta dishes are fantastic! I always get the Italian Trio, which includes Lasagna, chicken Parmesan and fettuccine; all great dishes on their own, but such a great combo! They'll do kids portions of most everything that kids like, including kids size pizzas, and they have the best Garlic bread. They give you plenty of it, which l love taking home with leftovers.
