Came here with several friends last week and loved everything we had here! We ordered the focaccia appetizer to share, the bread was so crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The tagliere plate had a great assortment of cheese and cured meats, and even had some spicy cheese. Pizza was also delicious, wood-fired with a soft crispy crust, but I also found it fell apart easily when picking it up. And the tiramisu was one of the best I've had, so light and yummy and not too sweet. Service was good as our waitress came to check in on us multiple times during the two hours we were there. Friend: let's grab pizza at one of my favorite go to spots Ofc I'm happy to oblige and luckily I went with my friend or else I would have easily missed it. The pizzeria is tucked amongst a row of residential buildings. (You need to take the stairs to go down to the pizzeria.) In the front, they have a sign with their name. However. If I'm just aimlessly walking down the block, I wouldn't have noticed it. Now that I know of its existence, I would visit again! The staffs are very friendly! Came here on a Thursday night. Initially had plans to hit up 314 Pizza but there was an event and came here as a backup. The place has a nice vibe, dim but not too dim and an intimate atmosphere. Watch your step as you enter, steps going down to the place. Ordered the Diavalo and it was a little salty for my taste, might have been the olives but still pretty good. It was hard to cut the pizza with a fork and knife and the pizza itself was not thick, kinda odd since I was trying really hard to cut it. They serve some sort of spicy olive oil which was nice to dip your crust into, it had a slight kick to it. My spice tolerance is low. At a recent lunch in Milan's Isola I missed out on a chance to try an exquisite Neapolitan pie out of an experimental urge to taste a pizza fritta with escarole. I had to correct my error with a proper Neapolitan pizza upon my return to NY. Sottocasa predates the newer wave of competitors in the city like L'antica and Una Pizza Napoletana. It's been more than 10 years since I last had their pizza, but it's still one of the best in the city of this genre. We shared the reginela with mozzarella bufala and the exquisite aglio olio. Ok pizza and ok service. I didn't like that the pizza was so wet and didn't hold up. You really needed a knife and fork to eat it. Perhaps this is more authentic, Italian way. We ordered two pizzas: Laura and Romana. I personally did not like either of them. They tasted a bit bland and with the Romana, I just tasted the capers. I couldn't really detect rosemary in the Laura either. Maybe I should've tried something else since I know this is a neighborhood staple pizza shop and the restaurant was full when I went. We could've ordered just one to split (they're "personal" size, but I think it's big enough to split between 2 people, unless you're very hungry). The waiter wasn't that kind and came off as dismissive when I asked about the pizzas. He was quick to give us our check and have us pay though! Really great pizzas in Harlem! Straight off the bat, I will say my one miff was that no matter how empty the restaurant, they will make you wait at the bar until your full party has arrived. I was a little frustrated by it, and I could hear the frustration from the next two parties who came after me, when they asked, "Everyone's here, can we sit now?" If it's a full restaurant, I completely understand, but only 5 tables were occupied, and they have their expanded space in the back, so I'm not sure why to have people wait at the bar when no one's going to order a drink there until their whole party comes. If anything, I'd order a drink at the table so it's not much carrying back and forth. Otherwise, the pizzas are great! They're a reasonable personal pie size, cut into quarter slices. I ordered the Bufalotta and it was so, so delicious!! I'm still dreaming about it: arugula, prosciutto, buffalo mozz, and basil! I also shared the Popeye, and that was pretty good, too, for a vegetarian option! The restaurant is very cute and I would definitely come here again, I would just wait for my party outside before coming in altogether. Was visiting a friend in the neighborhood and with the bad weather, we were just looking to pickup something warm to bring back to their place to enjoy. After reading reviews, we settled on Sottocasa Pizzeria and I'm glad we did. Placed the order online and headed over. When we got there we entered a relatively spacious (more than I expected in the city) dining area with a brick oven at the back. The atmosphere was excellent, and I think we both wished we had decided to dine in instead of walking the food home in the rain. The staff were friendly and the wait wasn't long. One tip, they seem to be busy enough that they are pretty good at predicting when food will be ready. We showed up earlier than our online order told us to and ended up having to wait. In the future, I would show up at your specified time to avoid crowing the waiting area. Overall the food was amazing, only issue (and the reason we removed 1 star) was that they gave us the wrong pizza. I would have called, and I'm sure they would have made it right, but the weather was bad and the other pizza was still enjoyable. read more

An adorable little spot for pizza in Harlem! We ordered the tartufo pizza, one of their white pizzas, topped with prosciutto and truffle oil. The crust was very thin, to the point where it became almost soggy at the tip, but was still crispy nearer to the crust. We were provided with chili oil and chili flakes. Great little Italian spot on Lenox! It's easy to miss since it is indeed a basement (Sottocasa), but it's spacious and has excellent cozy vibes. I've only tried their pizzas so far, but they're delicious! A little too pricey for takeout, at around $20 for a four-slice pie, but reasonable enough for a celebration. My only real gripe is the proliferation of ham on the pies coupled with the No Substitutions rule. So in order to order a pie that usually comes with prosciutto, a vegetarian must either pay full price and ask them to leave out the most expensive ingredient, or pay full price PLUS the cost to add the vegetable topping of choice. There's no build-your-own pie option, though you can order a Margherita pizza ($15) or garlic-olive oil white pizza ($16) and pay per additional topping, which add up fast. read more

Sottocasa is serving up excellent Neopolitan pizza in Harlem. A group of us dined here last month and it's the perfect place to order a variety of pizzas from the menu and share slices. It was obvious that this spot is popular in the neighborhood as it was very busy on a Saturday afternoon when we were there. Service was great, though, and it was nice to be seated near the wood-fired oven and see all the action going on as the pizzas were made.
