This is an excellent place for fish. To begin with we ordered the dill pickle chips. They were some of the best we have ever had. Then we had the two whole catfish. The catfish were a little small but it was more than enough for us. I had slaw and fries an my wife had fried okra. They have a very good selection of sides. I am writing this one in unison with the other two Memphis locations. It is hard for me to believe that I have never once written a review for this place at any of the locations! I am fixing that right now! I really like Soul Fish Café! We have been going here for years and years and have always had a very good experience both with the atmosphere and the level of service given. I have never had anything less than a great visit and have always left pleased with whole process beginning to end. I have not seen a difference in any of the locations as far as food quality is concerned. It seems to me to be very consistent among the brand, I may be lucky, I don't know. The Catfish is always hot, crispy, and fresh. If you choose it Blackened be ready because they make it Blackened for sure! The Blackened Trout is what I am stuck on lately. It is so good! I love trout and they do it superbly! The Hush Puppies are to die for! The wings are fire, really try some, they have a very interesting spice to them! Shrimp are big and plump and always seem to be cooked masterfully when grilled or fried. Fresh hand cut Fries!!! Awesome Veggies, they have like 15-20 choices of vegetable sides every day! Tartar Sauce is really good! Do not forget the Pecan Pie or the Cakes! I am trying to remember it all but I am sure that I am missing quite a few things to rave about. Oh! Beer! How could I forget that? They have a great selection of local beers here too! Price is a little on the "high side" on some items but the consistency in the food and service always makes it totally worth it to me. We have been coming to Soul Fish Cafe multiple times since I have moved to Memphis. Usually, our experience is nothing less than fantastic, but this time was different. Our waitress was very kind and helpful at first, but never returned. Additionally, there was a large piece of leftover food from a previous meal on my silverware. We will be back to give the wonderful staff and great food a chance, but my tip to management is to be sure to pay attention to the little things. They go a long way. read more

Stopped there to show friends a southern view of food. It was at the one of the first days restaurants opened after pandemic. We were seated at a table away from others, waitress was masked and menu's were disposable. Place was spotless. Now on to food GREAT !!! I ordered fried pickles which were awesome, poboy with fried shrimp and oysters and sweet potato fries. It was so good enjoyed it so much. Friends from Calif. got crispy catfish, coleslaw, fried okra and black-eye peas. of which they only had coleslaw before. They thought it was very good and glad to have a real southern meal, with iced tea (they do not have good iced tea in California they use instant yuck). My mother adores this place - so every time I visit her in Memphis, we must go to one of the Soul Fish locations - of the 2, I prefer this one. Both are jam-packed (tables are also pretty close together) and VERY NOISY. The service is super friendly, and my mother loves her vegetable plate: turnip greens, okra and black-eyed peas with pretty good cornbread. I am not a fried fish person & their grilled fish is salty beyond reason, but what do I know? People are constantly streaming in for lunch and finding a parking spot is a miracle. I loved this place. We started off with some fried green tomatoes and they had just about the right amount of breading on them and were served with a dipping sauce. I could've probably just eaten the sauce by itself. For my entree, I got the fish and shrimp combo and substituted fried okra for french fries. The fish and shrimp were fresh and flavorful. They had a simple breading that wasn't overpowering and overall just tasted damn good. We had to wait about 25 minutes for our table, but it was worth the wait and they had prompt service and turn the tables quickly there. Decent selection of local beers. I really like the layout, location, service, prices and vibe of the restaurant but I wasn't too impressed with the food.I am an absolute cheese fanatic and I only ate a few bites of that mac n cheese...it just wasn't cheesey or gooey or comforting the way that it is supposed to be. And I usually eat corn 4 times a week (don't judge me, it is my favorite veggie) but that side also went untouched. I don't know what they mixed it with but it just was blaaaah boring. When visiting the area, we always go to the location in Germantown. Every visit has been good. It was our first time at this location and this visit was no different. I've tried both fried and blackened catfish. This time, I tried the fried shrimp. They were the bomb. I love the hushpuppies. When requesting fried, I always request extra crispy like the locals at my table. It is perfectly fried and seasoned when it comes out. No need to say this for the shrimp - delicious! My green beans came out cold so the waitress politely put in another order which came when I was nearly done with my meal. They serve fresh whole green beans and are very tasty. A couple of suggestions for improvement: (1) My visit was a Saturday afternoon so the restaurant was full (not packed). Our waitress had too many tables, including a huge group table. With this in mind, someone should have been assigned to help her so the other tables didn't suffer. She was a trooper though. (2) Please get some Louisiana hot sauce. read more

We had been to the Germantown location and thought it was just OK. I thought we were in for another OK experience as they sat the five of us at a four top. We had come here at my mom's request and were not looking forward to it. We had fried pickles and fried pickled tomatoes up front. Both were Ok but nothing special - the pickles are rolling in cornmeal - I would have preferred a batter. Dyann got the fried shrimp platter with fries. I got a house salad that was huge and looked fresh. Dyann really liked her shrimp but found her fries a little soggy. My salad was good but nothing outrageous. Our server on the other hand was exceptional and the main reason for the fourth star. She was attentive and funny. Her recommendation of the lemon pie was spot on - very tasty. The best blackened catfish I've had in a long time. The fried okra is pretty darn good too, lightly battered and fried with that slight crunch. Lunch is quite busy but they still manage to squeeze you in at one of their tables, booths or even bar area. Like some of the previous reviews had mentioned, it is a bit loud even for a lunch crowd. We drove to Memphis from St. Louis on a Friday with our 14 mo old son. So to say the least, we were super stressed, and fairly worried if we would make it through dinner! I hadn't had good fried catfish in a while, and i have to say it was better than good. Perfectly cooked, and hot sauce on the table. you don't need it! Actually found myself feeling guilty putting it on!? Oh yeah - there was shrimp too, that was also good. Mac and cheese was melt in your mouth delicious as well! Hush puppy... not my favorite in the world, but if there is a hush puppy snob, I am one. So all in on food A! Decor was exactly what a place like this needs to be. This was my first time visiting Memphis and my Dining experience wasn't going very well until I went to the Soul Fish Cafe. The Customer Service and the food were great. My partner and and I dined on Fried Catfish, Shrimp and Cajun Cabbage and Hush Puppies. The fish was well fried and flavorful, a tad too salty. The Cajun Cabbage was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G, I regret not getting some to take back to Chicago with me. The Hush Puppies were great also, I'm not a fan of them...but the Soul Fish Cafe made a believer out of me. The shrimp basket with fried okra and their slightly spicy tartar sauce is my go-to! The fried pickles in their signature cornmeal breading are the best I've ever had-and I eat fried pickles every time I see them on a menu. Another plus to all the Soulfish restaurants-they serve slices of cake from All American Sweets (Frost), so you can end your meal with a slice of strawberry cake. If you're full after dinner, get a slice to go for later-You'll be soooo glad you did!! There's plenty of parking around back, so don't let the small lot out front deter you.
