My daughter and I stopped-in at the Soul Fish Café (SFC) today, for a late lunch/early dinner, or "linner" as I like to call it. We'd been on the road a few days and she was thinking salad and I was thinking fish. After reading off the salad choices at SFC, she was "hooked!" We were promptly seated, opting to sit outdoors on the patio, with Bailey as our Server. Bailey was friendly and knowledgeable, and pleasant throughout our visit. She was attentive and as a major plus, even laughed at my jokes. Thanks, Bailey! For our meals, my daughter ordered the Fried Shrimp Po-Boy with a side of Fried Okra. I had the Fish and Shrimp Plate with three add-on shrimp and Black-eyed Peas and Collard Greens as my sides. My plate included three homemade hush puppies. We both ordered tea to drink. Our food arrived fairly quickly and everything was piping hot, save for the hush puppies. They were about room temp, but still tasted fresh. We were both very satisfied with our meal and felt it to be price worthy. All of the food was seasoned well and tasty. Nothing was either over-seasoned, over-salted, or overcooked. We were both served cocktail sauce and i received also a homemade tartar sauce and spicy remoulade. All of the dipping sauces were really delish! Of particular note, the breading on the shrimp and okra was very light and delicate. It had a perfect crunchiness and coated everything quite well! The seasoning on the catfish fillets was also light and very delish! The tea was spot on, and there was no slime in the ice machine or mold to be tasted. Yaaay!! Both of us used the restroom facilities and both of us found them to me well stocked and clean. We really did just happen upon SFC, but I'm glad we did because I would definitely visit again and would recommend it to anyone searching for great food and great service! So, if you're passing through east Memphis and have a hankering for a good sit-down meal, you really should stop in and try this cafe on for size! Eat well. Be well. Cheers! read more

I just placed a curbside order at this location after not visiting for several months. When I got home, my fries were burnt to a crisp, so I brought them back to get fresh fries. When I called to complain, they told me that I had to bring the fries inside even though the order was curbside, which was a pain. When I arrived, I asked for a refund rather than new fries because the process was too tedious. A manager came up to issue the refund. She did not speak to me at all and acted as if I was not there. She took the fries, looked at them and saw how incredibly burnt they were. She did not apologize for the inconvenience or say anything at all. After she finished issuing the refund, she gave me the receipt and said that the updated total was on the receipt. I politely thanked her and left. I will never go back to this location again and think that my family is done with Soul Fish altogether.If you compare the menus over the years, the price increases are absurd for the same portion sizes. I wish I would have taken a picture before returning the food, because no reasonable person would have a look at those fries and serve them to a customer. Who checks the orders? After it was clear that I went home and came back, nobody even apologized for the error that they made. I also noticed that they had a sign next to the register that directed customers to check their to go orders before leaving because they're not responsible for errors. If the food came out of your kitchen, you are ALWAYS responsible for the error. Additionally, that sign is not outside, so if you call and order curbside, there's NO WAY for you to read that sign and know the standard before you leave. Post the same side outside or have your to-go workers ask customers to check the food. But don't be rude about it after I bring you back burnt fries that you know you would not eat. I'm not 100% sure the name of the manager. I dealt with, but I think it's Candace. She was thin, brunette, with highlights and pale eyes. It was a total displeasure to engage with her today. If the management is rude on Easter weekend, how are they acting the rest of the year? How easy is it to say, "I'm sorry for the inconvenience?"Again, won't be back. read more

I'm truly disappointed in what I received today 12/5/23 @12:48p. I stop for a lunch to go and got a southwestern salad with blackened shrimp. I went immediately house because my spouse works from home and needed to eat before a meeting. I open the salad and shuffle around the salad to mix it up. I added the dressing and took a bite, soon as I looked down to grab another fork full, I noticed a small green bug crawling from under my lettuce. I was instantly. I took pictures kept my receipt and threw the whole salad away. This is my unacceptable. I paid $33 for a salad and a sandwich. My wife's sandwich was cool and bug free. Now I'm out of some money and feeling queasy about what I could have possibly consumed. Check your food before leaving as much as possible. I saw about three more salads go out the door before mines, I'm sure someone else will have wasted their money and time on a business that is not doing it part in making its product safe for its patrons to eat. read more

Ahh finally a Soul Fish is my area! I've been pleased with my visits to each location in the Memphis area, but the Cordova location gets my most favorite vote. Each time I visit I'm greeted with a smile and friendly service. I've ordered catfish fillets, chocolate cake, which is from FROST BY THE WAY, fried shrimp,fried green tomatoes,fried okra and well basically alot of fried stuff lol but it is all SO good. My go to is the regular fried catfish plate with fries and slaw. The hush puppies could definitely use some work, they are definitely not my favorite. I've placed to go orders over the phone and each time when I arrive my order is waiting on me,even on a busy Friday night. I must admit, I was expecting it not to be ready when I arrived and saw the parking lot full and flowing over to the side lot. Parking is plentiful and service is always great. I definitely hope it stays that way because I will forever be a guest. It is clean and bright unlike some places. I will tell others about this location but I'm happy to see the location has picked up. When it first opened I was a bit worried with it being back behind other restaurants, but that is not a problem. If you haven't been to this location, stop by before the dinner crowd if you don't like waiting. I've visited about 2pm after the lunch rush and it wasn't crowded, that seems like a good time to avoid the crowd. read more

Back in Memphis and stopped by this cute little spot near Wolfe Chase. The atmosphere was kinda hip. The outdoor dining was surprisingly nice given the Memphis heat because of the great air moving fans. The food was solid. The blackened trout was underwhelming... I had to add salt and hot sauce to up the flavor level. The hush puppies were nice and crispy...but pretty standard fair. My dining companion was very enthusiastic about the fried catfish, fried okra and lemon pie. I guess she made the smarter choice...Memphis is definitely catfish country. read more

Main entrees are delicious, sides leave a bit to be desired. This restaurant is fairly new only a few years old, inside is well lit and very clean inside. Good that we did because entrees would not have been finished. Grandson Triston had the fried catfish and shrimp plate with fries and macaroni and cheese, and Ann and I shared the four piece fried catfish with fries and black eyed peas. The fish, shrimp and peas were awesome, all 5/5. Large filets and shrimp cornmeal dusted and fried to perfection. Fries, mac & cheese and hush puppies were not as good and the reason for the four star rating. Service was very good. Rosa took good care of us. Decor is contempary and cool. We have been here numerous times. The food is usually pretty good, but this review is about service. The female black hostess with the ring in her nose had a serious attitude problem which made us almost leave. She didn't even look at us when she spoke. Then, she just walked off and expected us to follow her. She walked so fast she had to wait at the table for us to get there. She then put the menu on the table and mumbled "enjoy" and walked off.
