Had a craving for dessert so I went to Soulman's BBQ. I ordered a slice of pecan pie. It was the WORST pecan pie I've ever eaten! It smelled like straight bbq smoke when I opened it. Just opened! I ordered the "Out-of-Sight" special. Lg. chopped beef sandwich with 2 regular sides. Basically it is the "Sandwich plate" but you don't get a choice of the meat, and it is $0.50 cheaper. I chose the coleslaw and potato salad. Everything is very good. We have eaten there three times over the past few weeks. The first time was good but the last two times were disappointing. Let me first say they have a really good brisket and their sauce is awesome if you like a sweet bbq. My biggest complaint though is on price vs quantity compared to other bbq places in the area. I ordered a three meat plate and got about 5 slices of brisket, two small pork ribs and and about 3 inches of sausage with two VERY small sides and it cost me $16...not including the drinks. My wife and I both got the three meat plate two large drinks and a banana pudding and it was $42. I'm pretty sure that was the complaint about the previous bbq place that was there. The ribs and pulled pork was extremely dry and I had to drown it in sauce to make it edible...but the sauce is good. If they were to either decrease the price by about 10% or increase the amount of food you get slightly I might frequent there, but I think we will go to Rudy's instead even though my wife hates sitting on bench and eating out of a crate. read more

This was VERY disappointing. Meat was dry, they left out one of my sides, and the toast was hard as a rock (honestly it was like it had sat over night and they attempted to re toast it)... they had to have known and seen the quality of this food and still packed it up for a customer. We went to this restaurant when they first opened and it was very good. However, a friend and I went here today and the food was absolutely terrible. I got a barbecue sandwich. The meat had no flavor and the bun was not even toasted or warm. I got what I think they call the belly buster and it had sausage and chopped beef on it the sausage was very dry and the casing on the sausage was impossible to chew. My friend got the ribs and they were burnt and dry. They looked like they had been made several days before and left lying around. Not sure if I'll try this place again but probably not. read more

We went as a family of 5 and had the worst experience. There was absolutely no one in the restaurant. We waited 10 min to order. Once the man began our order he randomly left the station. We were left dumbfounded and had to ask if someone would be finishing our order. Finally, we completed our order. The employees were not cheerful and slow as molasses. We then had to wait for some of our food to be cooked, which seemed like they forgot us (again no one else was even at the restaurant except our family). Even half the sodas were out (and never refilled) of the soda machine--they had to fill our cups from the drive through. 2 stars because our food tastes good, but service was AWFUL. Soulman's is the place to go for delicious BBQ. I am hooked on their brisket and polish sausage. The BBQ sauce is spicy goodness that brings out the flavor of the meat. You don't even need the sauce because everything is moist and juicy. Their sides are amazing especially the potato salad and cabbage. Soulman's is my new go to place for BBQ. read more

Worst BBQ place in the area, encompassing Allen, Plano, McKinney and Frisco. The meat is dry, the food rather bland, the bbq sauce is uninspiring, and worst of all it far more expensive then other places. The quality of the food would rate a 2 by itself. It's bland, dry and almost tasteless. You have to drown the brisket in the run of the mill bbq sauce to have any taste. The sides: the potato salad was incredibly sandy in texture and also very bland. How do you mess up potato salad? The Cole slaw - I have no idea. A curly hair was embedded. I returned it to the front and exchanged for the green beans. They kept serving the curly hair Cole slaw. The replacement green beans were mushy and salty. I will not be back here. It was below average in quality and far above average in price/quantity. We will go right down the road to Dickeys next time, or really any other BBQ place in the area. It makes me really miss Barbie-Q-T who was in the this building until closing last fall. read more

The pecan pie from Soulmans BBQ - Allen was horrible! It literally tastes like dirt! I tasted it and instantly disliked it. Not only is it a poorly made pie with NONE of the custard typical of a pecan pie, but the flavor can only be described as dirty. My wife tasted it and promptly tossed her piece into the garbage. My son tasted it and also thought it tasted like dirt. I am actually appalled at the disaster that this pie is. It's an insult! The sliced brisket was dry and tough too, but that is nothing compared to this completely inedible pie! Disgraceful! read more

Was craving a fully loaded potato so I stopped in bc i was on my way home. I ordered a loaded potato with chopped brisket ON THE SIDE (ps they said this is no problem) and some Mac and cheese and some banana pudding. I will say the banana pudding was AMAZING. Like This was the best banana pudding i have had in a long time! The Mac and cheese was grainy and mushy. I think they serve the same kind at a nursing home. Oh and the slice of toast tasted and smelled like it was drug through some mop water. The potato was meh. The meat was on top which is not what I asked for. Just sayin. This is by far some of the worst BBQ ive ever had! Its pretty hard to not make better than Dickies BBQ but this place has managed to be . It has the fast food feel and look the staff is somewhat friendly. The quality of potato salad was pretty much straight out of a tub and Cream corn wasn't any better probably the best part of the meal was a slice of toast. Incredible rude managers to local students that park by the restaurant to go to morning activity at school (just across the street) 99% of those cars are moved well before the restaurant opens and don't effect business. Had a manager come up to me and a friend and aggressively tell us he will tow our cars if we park there again. Will never go back here again. read more

I hate giving reviews, because people don't use the information to get better very often, but I'm hoping this isn't the case. My wife and I tried the pick 3 with pork, brisket, and ribs, and sadly, all the meat was dry, and lacking in flavor. The service was very friendly, and everything was clean, but you might want to think about a little more rub on your smoked meats. My wife and I just moved to the area from St Louis, and this is just down the street from our new house, so I really wanted this place to be great, since it's so close, but the food just wasn't very good. I spent 6 years as a gm and pit master for a bbq restaurant, and I am current a corporate executive chef, so I can in good conscience say that the meat quality is good, and if you were to invest some time in redevelopment of your rubs, and hot holding procedures, your reviews would change dramatically. You should try looking into CVap (I don't work for them) for your hot holding, as it keeps proteins very moist for a longer period of time. I hope you guys get the issues ironed out, I would love to make this my regular bbq joint! read more

Went through the drive up tonight. Got a half rack of ribs and some sausage. The sausage was very greasy and the ribs were very fatty. I won't do that again. I got the $9 "double" ham stuffed baked potato and what I got was a potato ( the size of a Wendy's baked potato) with about a half cup of little diced ham chunks in it. I just moved to Texas and thought to try Texas BBQ. Stopping here left me very wanting more. You come in and order your food at a cafeteria style counter where the meat is already cooked and kept warm under warming lights. You order the type of meal you would like one, two, three or four meat meals or several types of sandwiches. You get your meat served to you then you move down the line to pick your sides from steam pans that were pretty empty. The potatos were dry and looked old. The mac and cheese was thick and scary. I had the beans and western corn. Your meat is served dry and you have to attack it with this sweet and syrupy BBQ sauce. You move down the line and get your plastic drink cup. You fill your cup with your beverage of choice. The sweet tea was not a disappointment, clean tasting and not too sweet. I sat down and started my meal. The brisket was tender and you could taste some smoke within. It had a nice crust and had a great mouth feel. Not rubbery or stiff. I added some BBQ sauce from the cup that I put it in so I could taste the meats without extra flavors involved. The little sauce I added gave the brisket a little added tang. Now the ribs were another story. These three ribs were lacking of meat and had the texture of the bottom of a tennis shoe. The little meat attached did not want to leave the bone and when It was torn from the bone it had no flavor or meaty texture. Adding some sauce allowed me to tolerate this attempt at a meat substitute. The staff was helpful and friendly to walk me through the menu and suggest items since I said this was my first time here. I will visit other BBQ joints since I have moved here. I hope to discover other types of BBQ and discover what this area has to offer. read more
