We were in Plano helping our daughter move from California, and on our way out we stopped at a small barbecue spot near her place--and wow. Easily some of the best BBQ I've ever had. The brisket literally fell apart when you picked it up, the ribs were perfectly tender, and every side--beans, potato salad, mac & cheese--was absolutely delicious. Every single bite hit. It's definitely one of those classic hole-in-the-wall joints: order at the counter, nothing fancy, and the service was a little "meh"... but the food more than made up for it. Really odd experience. Wasn't really greeted, ordered my food which was sliced brisket plate, and sat down and waited. Got the food pretty quickly and man, I wish I had better news. It's good for the price but as a BBQ connoisseur myself, it's not elite. Most of the desserts are not made in house and many sides are also not made in house but rather pre made from larger food supplier. The brisket is good, like a 7/10. I put it in the fridge to pack the next day. When I opened the container . I didn't even recognize what it was. Being in the fridge solidified the fat. A pound of brisket for $25. Half was fat! The bark on the ribs was soft and no taste. The baked beans are pork n beans from the can. No bbq sauce or brown sugar was added. Maybe they added some black pepper. If you can get to Winners when it's open, go try it! We shared a GOAT potato (5 meat topped baked potato) and that thing was ridiculous . The container weighed close to 3lbs and you couldn't see the baked potato because there was so much meat. Two of us enjoyed the potato and meat for lunch but had enough to share for dinner. The ribs were a little dry but the flavor was solid. All the other meats were well cooked and seasoned just right. The BBQ sauce was good enough to take home. Although the hours are a little wonky, it was a winner in my book. If I'm over in East Plano around lunch time, it's a place I would frequent. The location is in a strip center and you could easily miss it if you don't know what you're looking for! The inside has a classic BBQ takeover appearance complete with Texas accents and tin roof decor...I'm guessing it was a tiki hut before transforming into Winners BBQ. We tried Winners BBQ for the first time today. It's 4th of July, we expected a crowd and there was an immediate line upon opening. My husband picked up food Togo. He was first in line but still waited 30 minutes for his food. He said the phone was ringing off the hook. The food was delicious. The brisket was tender and was best eaten with the very tasty fat. The lean by itself was a little dry. The sausage was delicious. My husband even thought so and he's not a big sausage fan. We ordered coleslaw and bbq beans as a side. Both were delicious but not exceptional. I didn't taste smoke in the meats either which is a disappointment to me. The BBQ sauce was the thing that stood out the most. I ordered a chopped brisket baked potato, banana pudding for lunch Saturday. I also ordered a chopped brisket sandwich plus baked beans for lunch Sunday. I ate the potato which tasted good. I took a bite of the banana pudding (which was warm). Four hours later I was profusely sick. This lasted from 10pm Saturday night and stopped once I was admitted to the hospital for food poisoning. The other day, I dropped in to have a two-meat plate and see how they are doing on their pandemic protocol. :-D Right off the bat, I was impressed that they had a dedicated entry and exit door along with a one-way flow of traffic marked out in tape. The tables were well-spaced to enable good social distancing, and they had plexiglass for the cashiers. For my meats, I had ribs and brisket, and for my sides I had green beans and mac n' cheese. The brisket was good, but it was overshadowed by the ribs, which were really good, some of the best ribs I have had. The sauce was good, but the ribs were good with or without it. The green beans and mac n' cheese were flavorful, and the mac n' cheese was nice and fresh/gooey/moist. The food here is consistently excellent and tastes great.
