I came in to Sound Waves to ask about backup camera installation after reading all 5-star reviews. I met Dave and he showed me what they have in store and gave the price for parts and labor. He also mentioned that if I bring in my own parts then there is no warranty, not even warranty on the labor/installation. I felt this is weird that they don't even give warranty on labor/installation if I don't buy parts from them. So this means that if something wrong with installation even only after 1 day, then they're not responsible for it. Later that day, I called Dave to ask whether his price quote already included tax or not. It turned out that it's not included yet, so tax needs to be added for both parts and labor. Then I asked if Yelp deal/voucher ($100 for $160) can be used for the quote that he gave, and he said yes. A few days later I walked in to the store to install backup camera right when it just opened at 10 am, and I met another guy (I didn't ask his name). I explained to him about the price quote that Dave gave me. The guy said that the price for the rear view mirror monitor cannot be that low, and then he called Dave (he's still on his way to the store) and talked in Spanish. I told him that Dave gave me that price quote in store and he confirmed it again on the phone. 10 minutes later Dave arrived at the store and he said that he will honor the price quote, but he would not give any warranty at all on both installation and labor. Then he said that I need to pay $50 more for warranty. Then I asked about the Yelp voucher (I already bought Yelp voucher for Sound Waves because he said that he would accept it), and he said that I cannot use Yelp voucher for this price. I'm really flabbergasted that they use bait-and-switch tactic and really dishonest about their price. I'm thinking if they can be that deceitful about their price, then what kind of dishonest work that they might perform. Stay away from this merchant. They don't even deserve 1 star, it should be 0 star. read more

I came here to install a back up camera for my car and a Viper Model 5706V security system. Sound Waves provided exceptional customer service. Will installing the Viper security system, David gave me a call to let me know that I would need another car key to complete the install, one is used in the security system and one to operate the car itself. Since I was waiting in the area for the install I stop by to clarify what he meant, and was about to take an Uber back home to get the spare key. Alex, the owner then offered to drive me to my house to pick up the key and bring me back, I didn't live far, but did not expect anyone to offer to drive me. That's some other worldly customer service! And saved me about $20 to $30 on an Uber home and back. Definitely coming back if I want to install anything else in my car, and recommending them to all my friends and family planning to do the same! read more

Good Old Fashioned Bait 'n Switch Pricing! Installation quote of $200 magically jumped to $500 the night before the install! I called Sound Waves a couple of weeks ago in order to get a price estimate on the labor portion of my car audio system upgrade. I spoke to a gentleman named David. He was quick, courteous and direct over the phone. I told him I already had all the parts and equipment. I only needed them to do the installation/labor. I clearly explained to David that I need an installation quote for a 5-channel amp, two 2-way components up front, two midwoofers in the rear door panels, partial sound deadening for all four doors + trunk (I only needed 30% coverage), and a DSP processor (no tuning required - only installation). I told him the make & model of my vehicle and the mounting depth of my door speakers because they had large magnets. David quoted me $200 labor charge. We both agreed on the price. I told him I will be ready for the installation in about two weeks and asked him if I need to make an appointment. He replied, "No need to make an appointment. Just call us or come in when you are ready". I called back a few days later to let them know that I had picked out an exact date for the installation. David was unavailable so I spoke to a gentleman named Mario. I told him the price I was quoted and asked to make an appointment. He said he will have David call me back when he comes back to work (David was off) and took down my contact info. I called David back a few days later since he never followed up with me. I asked him if I can bring my car by so that he can take a look at everything and be prepared for the install the next morning. I rushed to the shop after work and showed the amp, DSP and speakers to David. Suddenly, the installation charge for my project went from the agreed-upon $200 to $500! The reason David provided for the price increase was that my speakers were "too deep". He said they would require a "lot more customization" than he anticipated even though I had clearly told him my car make & model and speaker specifications at the time of obtaining the initial quote. I explained to David that a price difference of $50-$75 would still be reasonable, but an immediate jump of $300 is total nonsense. I suspect that David either did a terrible job of providing a quote, or he changed his mind after noticing that I might have some more money to throw at this project. In any case, this is pure unprofessionalism! You don't quote someone a set price and then increase that by $300 based on "speaker depth". That's a hollow excuse (no pun intended). Spacers don't cost $300. Installing spacers doesn't cost $300. He had no intention to make any custom baffles or pods, so where is the justification for a $300 increase? A man's word and how strongly he stands by it says a lot about him and his business. Be weary of this shop! read more

Initially, this place was amazing, they were friendly, fast and the prices were pretty good. We had a dvd flip down unit installed and everything worked perfect. They installed the wrong color but said they would order the right color and we could keep the one they installed for the mean time. They said it would take about a month to get the right color in and they would call us, but they never called. About 10months later the dvd unit died, it just completely stopped working, so we took it in, because it was still under warranty. They said they didn't have the exact one at the shop but they had it at their warehouse. The only problem was, we had to pay $45 to ship the old unit to see what the problem was and they didn't know how long that would take. We ended up paying and upgrading to a different flip down unit ( a bigger and better one). But the sound wasn't working and they didn't even test the sound through the speakers like the last flip down unit. We had them test it and the sound was extremely poor, we ending up needing a radio transmitter to improve the sound but even that didn't help very much. It may have been the owner who I was explaining my frustrations too, but he was extremely short with me. First he blamed me for not calling about the first unit that I never had replaced and then kept saying it was our car that wasn't working with the flip down monitor, even though the old one worked great until it stopped working. Now our new unit is having issues. It doesn't play the whole movie, it stops about 45minutes into a movie and just stays there. We put in other DVDs and we get a "disc error." The unit also acts different every time we turn it on. Sometimes it turns on, sometimes it doesn't and the light remains on or off so you have to manually turn off the lights from the unit so it doesn't drain your battery over night. We will try this again and if they can't install a unit that works and lasts, we are Just going to have to go somewhere else where they they have different products. read more

I was looking to rent a wireless microphone for a family event and decided to swing by on a Saturday afternoon to see what they had. When I inquired, the individual who assisted me suggested to just buy rather than rent and offered a few cheap options available onsite. I was not looking for any high end brands like Shure or Sennheiser but something that would be dependable. I checked Amazon for reviews on a particular item (Audio 2000 model AWM6026) and after seeing it was rated 3.5 stars, I decided to purchase it especially after the shop offered to match the Amazon Prime price ($40 vs $50 advertised there) so that was a very big plus. I have not yet used the wireless microphones yet but will update this review after my experience. This was actually my second experience at this shop. I had purchased a speaker upgrade and installation for my 2013 Honda Accord a few years ago and the speakers still work well. Friendly, knowledgable, and fast high quality installation work. I know nothing about this stuff and they walked me through the system when I pick up the car. Edit: found out after leaving that the $400 head unit I bought needed a $50 module that I was told was only needed to watch DVDs while driving, something I was not interested in. I can not change any settings on my new unit and now have to wait 4 days to get it taken care of. They did offer to comp me the module and installation but this is something that should have been diagnosed and communicated before I drove away thinking everything was good. The also didn't bother trying to connect my existing sub and amp to the new head unit, I found out when driving away and everything sounded very flat. I was told they will attempt to hook it up when they install the module I need to do things like change the clock. After this experience it seems that they are more interested in fixing customer service issues post installation rather than trying to mitigate them in the first place. Could also just be a simple oversight. Ask a lot of questions before you pull the trigger when shopping here. Edit 2: Update: They were able to get me in 4 days earlier than they had told me, in about half an hour hey had all the issues I had ironed out and it was a great experience. Turns out the unit I bought was the first they had sold of this particular model, so there were some growing pains. I would certainly recommend these guys. read more

They explained several options to me, then I waited ~30 minutes for them to finish a previous job while chatting with Alex. They are 1st come, 1st served. The actual install took about an hour. The only painful point was the $200 price for labor, but they do reward Yelp reviewers with a $20 discount. Additionally, since my debit card had only $169.58 left, they let me keep the extra ten bucks, evem after I asked them if I could use one of my other cards. Swung by here last week to get a bluetooth radio installed in my car. Honestly, I don't really know where else you can go for these kinds of things, but apparently, throughout the years, my dad has brought three of our cars here for various things, so he liked the place and deemed it trustworthy. When we entered, we talked to the man in charge/owner I believe. I actually never got his name, but he was pretty nice, and started discussing options with my dad for different bluetooth radio brands. Since my dad is a repeat customer, the man offered us a pretty good deal, if we paid if cash. As soon as the receipt was written up, they got to work on my car and in less than an hour, everything was done. Because of the ease and quickness of the job, I would probably have given them five stars initially, except I noticed an hour or so later, that my air conditoning system wasn't working at all. I don't know the whole process for installation, so idk if the ac system is normally disabled, but it was for me, and that's kind of important, so we had to turn around and get that fixed. Fortunately, they could immediately resolve the problem in just a few minutes. Overall, I'd recommend this place for those looking to install a bluetooth radio. Lifetime warranty was offered on the radio, which is pretty sweet, but after installation, just check to make sure everything is the way it's supposed to be. Because it is an aftermarket radio, the controls on my steering wheel no longer control the radio, so some time in the future, I'll probably come back to get that installed too. read more

They can do the work you asked, but the price is a rip off. They do price match for the product (infotainment system, speakers, DVR, etc.) only, but NOT for the wires. They charge wires at 2 - 5 times more expensive than the market. In my case, I asked them to change the stereo system and purchase necessary wires there. Those wires cost less than $80 from Amazon but they charged $200. When I asked them about this, they said they can put everything back to factory setting and only charge me $180 of labor, take it or leave it. If you want to let them help you, make sure you do the research and double check the price before they start working. read more

Then, when that stereo failed, they did full troubleshooting of the problem, loaned me a working unit to verify the issue, then swapped in a new unit from their store. I ended up buying the unit they put in and returned the other one to Amazon as defective. No problems since, and I'm able to use my steering controls, rear camera, and CarPlay.
