Came here for my husband's Christmas party. We had a blast! The food was amazing. The band was a little loud for the area - we ended up leaving the area to play games when they played. As for the games... a great assortment of games. Well spaced out to allow people to watch. A few of the games would work when they wanted to... Others didn't work at all even though they were fully lit up and said they were ready for play. That kinda sucked because it was two racing games, Halo and Guitar Hero - all games we wanted to play. I have mixed reviews on South 40. I've attended a couple company work parties that were hosted here and their catered food - prime rib and sides were excellent and their party space is perfect for large groups. So when my daughter and I were heading home from errands, we decided to come here for dinner. We came on a Thursday night for dinner and although the service was good...we were both slightly disappointed with their food. My daughter ordered a French dip and I ordered the fettuccine dish with chicken. The fettuccine was heavily sauced and the chicken on it was quite rubbery and tasted like precooked chicken vs. freshly grilled/cooked chicken. The fettuccine entree came with a soup or salad so I opted for the soup, which was chili that night. The chili was delicious. The beef in my daughter's French dip meal was very dry - it looked like the meat was overcooked or reheated one too many times. The French dip came with a side of fries, which my daughter said were pretty good. So both our entrees were not the best but we enjoyed the sides that came with our meals. Maybe this was an off night for them as far as the food goes. The food was offset by the service, hence the 4 stars. read more

This is located in the old zeppelin restaurant. The zeppelin was killed off due to covid, tough to keep a business when covid hit. The zeppelin was a wonderful concept but timing is everything. I walked into the game area of south 40 and saw table tennis, bowling alleys, I believe a volleyball court or pickle ball court and what appeared a wedding reception wondering that's not a restaurant, going in further there is a room with game machines then finally the dining area of south 40, wasn't what I was expecting. The menu items were not greatly appealing to me and the prices were a bit high. A couple of my friends ordered the prime rib, they're meat and potato types. The meat was okay but the accompaniments were less than warm. They had mac and cheese that was barely warm, french fries that were barely warm and broccoli rabe that was still raw or barely cooked. Another friend had a lobster mac and that had to be sent back to be warmed as well as the fries, they didn't bother asking for the mac & cheese to be rewarmed. On top of that, we didn't have any silverware when asked how everything was, lol. One bright spot the onion rings were hot and very good. I opted for something relatively simple, fettuccine alfredo with artichoke hearts, I loved this dish, it was the liquidy saucey type I've been served, that's all there was, no accompaniment like bread or garlic bread. This place was extremely noisy, if you are into a noisy environment for a restaurant, this is the place for you but no thanks for me and higher priced dishes don't justify coming back. read more

Came here for a holiday dinner with my partners coworkers. They were very excited to try this spot since they used to love going to Zepellin's. Unfortunately this new spot was full of mixed reviews by our party of 8. To begin, we came for both happy hour and dinner. We were a little confused about the ambiance choice, especially those who went to Zepellin's beforehand. It was giving modern farmhouse and I'm not sure if the vibe matched the overall experience they were trying to make happen, but hey that could just be me! The happy hour menu was pretty standard for an American restaurant. However, it was extremely disappointing. The caprese salad to be quite frank should not have been served. 3 slices of beefsteak tomato with 2 slices of mozzarella and a micro amount of shaved basil for $8 is egregious. I'm not sure what the full appetizer size for $14 is but there is zero way it's worth that. The chefs choice pizza did not taste fresh and wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't. The wings were basic; franks hot sauce w/ butter and sweet baby rays BBQ. Not complaining because those sauces are good but nothing to blow your hair back about. Our entrees overall we're decent. I got the sliders which was very good and I was pleased they came with fries for being an appetizer. Our friends enjoyed their meals; burger, two salads and a sandwich. However, it wasn't anything stellar. The only thing that stood out and was delicious was the clam chowder. I have to hand it to them that it was tasty. As for service, our server was super sweet, but she was the only one working a 10 table section and one of those tables being a party of 8. While she could handle it, it did delay prompt and timely service. Food did come out very quickly tho which is overall a good standard. I've tried this spot a couple times now and it's such a fun place to spend hours and hours at. Start with a delicious meal and a cocktail at the bar. The staff is friendly and helpful, they have a wide range of wine, beer and cocktails. The ahi app is to die for! Definitely don't skip this. The kale salad was delicious, the ribs are meaty and flavorful. Skip the hot chicken - it's a preformed patty and not very flavorful. The fries are also delicious, however. The arcade and "backyard" are both very fun. The arcade has every game you could ever imagine from racing, basketball, DDR, etc. and you can win prices. The backyard is a more chill area with more games like baggo, boxing, axe throwing, beer pong, and couches to lounge on. There is something for everyone - kids, parents, groups of friends. I used to be a fan, but now it's taken a massive downturn. Games are half working, and there seems to be no plan to fix them. The machine to load money onto your card is constantly restarting in the middle of the transaction. And don't get me started on the food. While it should be good because of their upscale bar-style atmosphere, the food is just subpar. The service is garbage, starting from the front all the way to the attendance in the game area. Overall our experience was good here. We came as a whole family and wanted to try it out since it just opened. It was a bit disappointing, as two of the items on the menu our table wanted. It was the meatloaf and the fried chicken. On the menu it also says that little ones are served first. Well we have a baby in our family and she actually got her food last, as if the kitchen had forgotten about her. I got the chicken sandwich. It was good and had pretty good flavor. It had bacon and avocado which gave it great flavor for sure. The fries that came with were good also. It was disappointing because not many fries came with the plate either. But what we did get was tasty. We all got drinks as well as the onion ring appetizer.They were pretty good too. I specifically got the mojito. It was a bit sweet, but overall was tasty. The onion rings had good flavor and the dip that was used was tangy, and a bit spicy, just the way we like it. We weren't offered any dessert, which was a bummer too. This review is for the Sports Bar - Gaming section. We go there for lunch a few times a month. The bartenders are always excellent (usually Kevin), food is good and great comps when gambling. Usually this is a kid free area when we are there but since this is an arcade and party venue, it would be nice if it was officially designated 21 and over section. We used to really like Zeppelin, great food. South 40 got off to a bit of slow start food-wise when they took over but we think they have really improved... and the big TV's for sports and gaming really add to the atmosphere. We went here for a birthday party with 12 adults and a toddler last night. Staff was really accommodating to our group with splitting checks and taking care of us in a very efficient manner! We were able to order things from the happy hour menu and all of the food was excellent. Lauren is one of the best servers we've had in all the restaurants we've eaten at in Reno. My 34 year old daughter had a birthday party there. The area was humongous. There was only one person taking orders and she was amazing. She was bar tending and taking food orders. She did a great job. There was a young man helping her. I don't think he was 21 so couldn't help her serve liquor. They were very friendly and helped arrange the games on the floor. We mostly ordered appetizers and some were very good. I personally loved the sliders, fries, onion rings, pizza etc... Definitely would recommend this place for a large group of people. Yesterday we tried South 40 for the first time - we live so close I can't believe we didn't come sooner. We sat in the bar area and our server was very sweet and provided great service. To drink we got the Mustang (not pictured) and the Sofo Strawberry Limeade to drink - both drinks were good but the strawberry limeade was amazing. For appetizers we tried the Potato Chips with French Onion Dip and the Backyard Wings with Buffalo sauce. The blue cheese was amazing, with chunks of blue cheese, the wings were good quality and meaty. We loved the fresh potato chips and the onion dip! I was going to order the Pork Chop but they said they were out, so I got the Meatloaf with Mac and Cheese, and he got the New York Steak Sandwich with a side Caesar Salad. I don't normally order meatloaf - it's an every once in a while craving - I thought it was good and the Mac and cheese was great along with the side veggies (mostly squash/zucchini). He didn't love the sandwich, said the steak was perfect but the rest of the sandwich was just okay - he said next time he'll try the French dip. I loved that the dining area is very nice and you can't even tell there's a whole "fun"/play area in the back. A nice big arcade, then a whole indoor courtyard to play cornhole and they have some other activities. There was a cornhole tournament going on that night - they said tournaments are Monday and Wednesdays, but any other time South 40 also has corn hole boards you can play casually with your group. I can't say I'm a big fan of this place. We went to celebrate my friend's going away party, and of course had a big group. When I got there, my friends said they just got their drinks and they were waiting for forty-five minutes. I know it was a busy night, but the server was not attentive to our table at all. We didn't get waters and it took maybe an additional 30 minutes to even order food. Food was subpar for being an upscale, classy bar. The drink menu was fun and food looked amazing. Yesterday I was there for an adult birthday party that was kid friendly. So we were in the back of the "house". Night and day vibe! There's a video arcade room which is very cool but the back of the establishment looks thrown together or maybe just not done yet. ‍ There are no servers and only one bar to order food and drinks from. Even the seating looked thrown together. It was typical fried bar food- nothing like the restaurant menu. And definitely nothing to rave about. A large arcade area for kids (and adults), outdoor area, back room that is huge with some more games, lots of seating, stage for entertainment, side rooms. Options for reserving for events. There's a bar area with plenty of seating and restaurant area too. The menu had a variety of food and drinks. Prices not listed for the cocktails which we should have realized meant they were more expensive than we thought. Everything was delicious and came out quick. It's is pricey so be prepared for that. Since this place has opened up my family has been a couple of times. The food is decent but a little overpriced. They have plenty of games to keep the kiddos busy and the prizes aren't too shabby. The burger was really good. It was perfectly cooked and well seasoned. The menu says shoe string fries but they are normal seasoned standard fries. I am not sure if that's a menu error or if it will change later. We also had the house made chips which are really good, they are great although you'll want some kind of dip because they are not salted. I really liked the sweat chilli wings, they had a proper spice build to them but not too much that I couldn't enjoy the taste. The French dip was nothing special but I like a fattier piece of meat. It reminded me of steakums which is a disappointment at that price point. Great place for our 12yr olds bday party. Cole was very informative made reserving easy & quick. Mikey & Sabation were very attentive & accommodating through out our party timeframe. There was a huge private party in the bowling area section which was included in our pkg deal but since we were not able to go in that section we were accommodated with a longer VR time which worked out perfect since our party group were all excited for the VR experience. The party room is so spacious with a TV & perfect in the arcade section. We had a fun filled time at South 40. Definitely recommended this venue for any type of event for kids or adults. Only issue we had was a group of boys that came into the arcade area while we were there who were just being disruptive & running around rough housing, they were throwing the basketballs from the game everywhere except in the baskets on purpose just about hitting others around them. The workers even asked them politly to stop all that they were doing multiple times & they paid no respect or listened to them. They even were bullying other random kids around in the arcade for no reason, ganging up to make them get off the games, They purposly shoulder check kids. When they were told to stop one stated they don't need to listen since their parent is an owner of South 40. We asked for the parents of these boys but they were there unsupervised in which they all seem to be underage no older that 12. I'm sorry but just because your parent owns the venue does not give you the right to disrupt or disrespect guest who chose this venue to have their event at. Nor is it right to disrespect the workers in the way these kids were doing so. I will still give 5 stars since it was no fault to the workers for how the groups of kids were being. Their service toward us was amazing! The only reason they didn't get a 5 star is due to them not having certain types of liquor in a full stocked bar and the music selection in "The Backyard" was not a diverse enough selection of music. The food was great well seasoned full of flavor after having the sweet chili wings I'm not sure I can order them anywhere else! I would've loved for a little heat with the sweet but they didn't leave me wanting more. The Buffalo wings could've been spicer but still had flavor. Crystal shrimp could've been cooked a little harder but it was still great! I wish the lobster Mac was a little better but for the price point it left me satisfied. The service was good in "The Backyard" you go to the bar and order and they bring it out to you which was nice. The bartenders were friendly and hospitable when the music was not good we asked if they could diversify the option and not simply play one genre and they did which was nice. We were celebrating a birthday that was 90's themed and they switched to 90's hip hop and R&B for us. I will definitely be back as I didn't get an opportunity to play in the arcade or explore the outside features as it was cold but I am excited to see this venue grow. read more

Excited to go here. They don't have any specific allergy options whatsoever. No substitutions either. Also, the kids meal choices are basic McDonald's menu items. Chicken tenders etc. Having at least a single healthy, non battered, non fried option for them would be awesome. Super large amount of space. Definitely could have awesome parties here. Although it seems like the space is too big for the concept. I'm sure they will be adding a lot more as time goes on as they are still pretty new. They have a cool kids party room with two rooms that cost $20/guest (child or adult) Food seems pretty quality. Higher pricing. Overall 3stars for us here. After eating, the food is pretty meh. My son didn't like the broccoli soup when he normally likes broccoli soup. The salmon was slightly undercooked. Had to ask for two more silverware sets. Will be a regular stop for our family. Been a few times now and each visit gets a little smoother in regards to service and food quality. Screens everywhere and a great happy hour. Very kid friendly which honestly is a major factor in where we decide to eat out and spend time as a family. Layout is unique and I'm guessing the summer will bring a few changes. There's a back entrance and main entrance, goin through the main your greeted to a bar and sit down casual dining, make your way around and you pass by a decent sized arcade on your way to a large garage style bar and more adult based games (still kid friendly). Think cornhole mini bowling etc. FYI no happy hour in the back, ordering food back here was great honestly, have QR codes and set your table then foods delivered. Would love to see maybe pool or shuffleboard in the future. The lighting in the casual dining transitioning to the arcade throws off the vibe, maybe look into the use of that dead space and dim it maybe? A few spots we visited around the country like this had a deal where you get like a $5 or $10 arcade card with every kids meal this would be great here. Was able to check this place out for a friend's birthday gathering. It is a huge space! The food we had was catered in-house, so it was just a selection of salad and toppings, a decent selection, meats/cheeses to accompany other sandwich accoutrements, and a fruit platter with cream puffs for dessert. The spread was mediocre when I saw the bill. Sandwiches = = Awesome space for parties though. I'm sure the food off the menu is much tastier, but we'll have to see the next time we go. read more

Very disappointing. Made a reservation for 25 in the back yard for a birthday It was a bigger room with tables and some games. Have to stand in a line to order drinks and food. The food comes in little paper baskets no plates, you have to use plastic utensils. No servers to wait on you. The food was terrible, orders pizzas and there were so small put in little cardboard baskets. It was super hot in there the whole party was sweating. I wanted to like this place but it just seemed so disorganized. Only one bartender working a large room and having to take food orders too. Maybe the front of the restaurant is better . We saw a comedy show on April 25, 20,24 at South 40. The venue was interesting. The performance was in what appeared to be a warehouse. The performers consisted of a Master of Ceremonies, 3 local comics, and the headliner, Bobcat Goldthwait. The show was put on by Reno Tahoe Comedy. Bobcat was GREAT! The other performers were so, so. There were no bad seats in the house. The major downside of the evening was the bar and server. The cocktail server came to our seats took our order as well as a credit card. The drinks were watered down. After the show, we waited for the server to return the credit card and she was nowhere to be found. We went to the bar in search of our credit card, and they had no idea where it was. The bartender finally had the idea to call the server to see if she had the card. She came back and returned the card. We enjoyed the show but the venue/bar needs to be better. We werent the only ones in search of their credit card. read more

Enjoyed breakfast with my family and some friends. The restaurant is nice and has a good vibe upon entering. The server was so sweet and patient with us. We had 4 energetic kids (1, 4, 8, and 10) who were eager to get their food and play games. I got the veggie omelet with country potatoes. The potatoes were quite spicy! I needed lots of ketchup to help cover the spice flavor. My friend got chicken fried steak with the potatoes and ate them as fast as he could so he wouldn't have to deal with the spice for very long. My kids ordered the kids pancakes. I was surprised with how much food they got. We were able to take home the leftovers for snack when we got home. The arcade area is fun! It's been 6 months since my first review, so it seems like it's time for an update. Living in South Reno and having a place like this close has been amazing. We end up here a couple times a month and have zero complaints. From sitting at the bar, to the restaurant, to hanging out in the backyard, and the arcade, it's a great space for anyone but especially families. Yesterday we went to watch the playoff games and they had plenty of room to hang out and watch. We got pizza, nachos, and drinks. The nachos were amazing, the chips are so good! Ok so this place is great for all types of events! adult or kids! It can be a date night, night out with coworkers, family fun day, etc! as soon as you walk in, there's a large seating area for their bar/restaurant. we had their pulled pork nachos (SO GOOD) and the bison burger with fries, also very good. my only complaints is that the tables weren't stocked with condiments at all, and the service was a bit slow. however, when our waitress did come to us, she was REALLY amazing, attentive, helpful! So i'm guessing she just had a lot of tables to handle and that's ok. We also had bar drinks like Amaretto sours (our usual favorite) and I tried the Strawberry Limeade Cocktail and it was very lime-y at first! but then i got used to it and ended up ordering another! NOW for the arcade side! They don't have that many games to be honest, we found ourselves waiting our turn a few times. but there are empty spaces throughout the back and i'm hoping they're planning on filling it in some more. They're a bit on the pricey side for game credits, but it's expected i suppose. we were out with friends and spent $20 for 80 credits and maybe could've bought more but it was fine, our other friends filled in when we ran out and we felt satisfied lol. Towards the VERY back (passed the arcade) they have a stage with music (sometimes live music) and another bar with seating areas! this side is a more outdoorsy vibe, with ppl playing bean bag toss, ping pong, pool, and a small version of bowling. there's couches too, and small day-care looking area for the really littles, which i thought was cool. they stashed a couple more arcade games back here too so that was fun. to my surprise, the funnest part of my night was: there was a woman there that was teaching everyone to line dance on stage with a microphone and everything! i wish i got her name, but she was a very good teacher and we all had so much fun learning and actually got it down! I have never done this before, but the service and food were so horrible I feel like it is needed. If I could give them 0 stars, I would. As someone who has worked in food and beverage for 15+ years, I really hope the management sees this message and makes some serious changes because this place has a lot of potential if operated properly. We called a few days ahead of time to make a reservation for 12 of us to celebrate our recent graduate. We arrive and quickly get seated. We ordered drinks and 1 appetizer (chips/salsa/queso) to keep it simple so the kids could snack while we hang out and visit with each other. 30+ mins go by and nothing has been delivered. Our waiter comes back and tells us the kitchen was backed up and we should order our entrees as our drinks and appetizers are about to arrive. We ask about the drinks and he tells us they are on the way. Another 30+ mins go by.. still no drinks, no appetizer. Next thing you know, our entrees arrive. Here is what we ordered vs what was delivered to our table: Large Pepperoni and Pineapple pizza- we received a small cheese pizza Seared Ahi Salad-we received Poke appetizer Chicken Caesar salad-we received a side Caesar salad with no meat BLT with a side salad- We got a BLT with fries (this arrived about 5-10 mins after everything else) Spicy chicken sandwiches-This was ice cold and soggy Smash Burger-We received a Bison Burger We ask the server to correct this, to which we are told, it's probably best you just eat this because it is quicker... Keep in mind, at this point still no drinks or appetizer have arrived so at this point I get up and go to the bar to order drinks. I wait at the bar for 5 mins until the lady at the bar next to me said you better speak up and make them acknowledge you or you will be standing here for a while, they are ignoring everybody.. and so I do and finally get noticed several mins later and I place our drink order, to which then the bartender tells us our server has our order and we should be getting them soon...an hour after we ordered our first round of drinks and they wouldn't make my drinks because "the server was on it"... Drinks arrive.. here is what we ordered vs what we got: 2 glasses of red wine-we got a glass of Chardonnay Revisions Beer-we got a Modelo Ordered two cocktails which still never arrived Coors Light- We got a canned cocktail We all left very disappointed and embarrassed for our guests. What I thought would be a fun night, started poorly. This was my first time here, I ordered one of my favorite drinks, a Bloody Mary. When it showed up, it looked almost pink, guessing because there was so little tomato juice in it. I thought, maybe the lack of Bloody Mary mix will be made up with more vodka. It wasn't I asked if they had guacamole on the menu. The bartender said only in their nachos, and not to have with chips ( I have a dairy allergy, so I was hoping for guac. And chips). He said he could "probably" try and figure out a price, but it will be expensive. HUH? The bartender might have a dynamic personality, but it wasn't on display this evening. Not accommodating, and texted on his phone while ringing up orders. Hmmm We initially went there for football, because it's a sports bar but the TV quickly went out- bartender blamed the network- not sure about that. It was a disappointing venture- we left after 30 minutes, went to another venue, the network was fine and we got to enjoy some football. All in all, I will NOT be returning here. read more

I follow South 40 on social media and was very excited to come here for game day. The backyard area was closed for a special event and so we sat down in the dining area to watch the game. We saw their game day specials advertised on our table and figured we'd order off of that. When we went to check out we were notified that those specials only applied to orders placed in the backyard area during games (which we did not have access to). I figured maybe they would apply these specials since the area was closed but we were denied. I'm disappointed with the advertising for these specials and hope that the company will make adjustments. We had wonderful service in the dining area though! Hoping that we can come back in the future and the company will have worked through the kinks of opening a new business. read more
