When there's a ramen craving I just can't kick, South Slope Ramen does the trick. (Not trying to create a jingle, I swear.) Clearly I'm not alone, because often when I pass by, there's a swarm of delivery drivers waiting to pick up the goods for noodle-soup-fiending customers. I usually opt for the clearer broths vs. the richer, creamier ones, so my go-to is the classic shoyu ramen with its comforting and flavorful pork and chicken bone broth. I've also had the kimchi ramen, birria beef ramen, and tan tan ramen. Their wavy noodles are nice and bouncy, and their half-boiled ajitama egg is always a good addition (though not as spot on as it used to be). Their broths can be a little saltier than I'd like, though. While this doesn't rank in my top three NYC ramen spots or anything, it's a great option to have in the area. read more

Reviewing this restaurant as the vegetarian miso ramen sits in stomach. Unfortunately it is not new to my stomach. I ate it about 6 hours ago and I am still feeling the discomfort at 4 am. I made the wrong decision of ordering this meal and omg. The ramen tastes awful. I was hungry coming home from work plus I paid about 30$ so I had to have a few bites until I could not take it any longer. It has a metallic omami flavor in an unpleasant way and leaves the worst aftertaste I had to brush a couple times. The ramen was very mild and skimpy on ingredients. Many other ramen shops for 15-18 dollars provide 3-4 pieces of chasu, whereas this restaurant provides only two thin slices and charged almost 5 dollars for an extra side of it. Their toppings are outrageously overpriced and unfortunately the quality of their ramen is also below average. The service is also very inconsistent and slow, where the person who ordered one bowl of ramen before I ordered mine got his 20 minutes before mine arrived. So just be mindful if you're in a rush. The ramen is delicious - I don't really need to say more do I!? If you're here of course try the signature ramen - I got it with straight noodles and the pork cha shu. Those are both my call outs, the noodles were so good and bouncy, and the cha shu was just a tad more fatty than usual, just how I like it! We also got the gyoza, seaweed salad, and the chicken fried rice. The chicken fried rice was highly recommended but I thought it was a bit too soft, which was the draw but personally I like it on the crispy side! Overall a great spot in South Slope and super popular for takeaway, there were deliveries leaving nonstop. I ordered the Pai Tan ramen, with straight noodles in their house-made pork and beef bone broth. It came with pork cha-shu slices and a perfect soft-boiled egg. The pork cha-shu was top notch and fell apart in my mouth. Very flavorful and cooked with care. The broth was so good. Unreal. There were little tiny bits of toasted garlic that floated on top of the soup, and they were so flavorful and crunchy. I was starving so I Uber Eats their poke bowl. I should have stuck with Ramen as I usually do. It was suppose to be tuna and salmon but I needed a magnifying glass to find it in this bowl. I have now tried their Pai Tan, Miso, and Dan Dan Ramen (I have tried their chashu but I always get ground pork as my choice of protein) as well as their Karaage Chicken. I love this place, it is my favorite spot for Ramen right now. I haven't experience any order issues or anything bad really. The ramen is always super consistent and delicious. I do have a few suggestions though: -The karaage needs better packaging for delivery. I'm sure people aren't expecting to receive "dine in" quality crisp on fried chicken that's been delivered but y'all aren't helping by throwing hot and crispy chicken onto cold and wet cabbage and lettuce. Like cmon now, that's amateur ish. I saw in pictures that the chicken was delivered in a container with sauce all over the place and greens and specifically asked them to put the sauce on the side. I feel like that should just be a given. The chicken also needed more flavor. A sprinkle of salt after frying, some five spice, or maybe more seasoning in the batter. Either way, something's gotta give. -I know times are hard and all, but only giving guests one half of an egg for the ramen bowls is stingy and y'all are better than that. Especially when you're charging almost $3 for extra egg add on and it's a whole one. I would still pay for extra egg even if they gave a whole one in the bowls as is. That's one consistent negative mentioned in other reviews that I agree with. Their add ons are really expensive, you can add two things to a bowl and it'll go from $15 to $22 real quick. All I'm saying is you catch more bees with honey. Loosen up a little bit. An extra scoop of corn should not be $2. Let's be real. Still love y'all though. read more

We made two stops here during our stay in New York this past weekend. It was extremely surprising to find out none of the local ramen spots offered mayu :'( SMH As we drove over the bridge heading into Brooklyn, I searched for a Ramen spot and called around before settling on Slope. I decided on slope because they had other choices besides pork. We ordered and picked up then took it home and was thrown back by the flavor of their chicken ramen broth. I quickly took the noodles out because they didn't add anything except a chew and I be didn't want them to continue to soak up all my good broth. I was not feeling well the next day and needed soup to settle my stomach; plus it was raining so . . . RAIN = RAMEN everytime in my book! This time we dined in and I didn't barely eat any of it but knees to order without the noodles and was offered rice instead. My guy enjoyed his and I enjoyed as much as I could. We'll definitely be back when we're in NY again hopefully they'll stand out and add some mayu to they're menu. read more

Excellent addition to the area and a straightforward, no-fuss experience. Of course I've visited on cold nights when I needed a quick yet satisfying meal. The neon signs beckoned me in from the street one night on that search. I was wary at first because South Slope hasn't struck me as a neighborhood with these kinds of options, but that is precisely the reason why they should be here. First time, I ordered their house ramen and second time a miso one to attempt a lighter fare. The bowls are big and heaping, so portion for price is excellent. The noodles are exactly as they should be and the other ingredients, like soft boiled egg, round out the deliciousness. The slight cons are the broths and the pork, if you choose that for a meat. The broths do not wow me. Flavorful for sure, but they leave with a slightly heavier feeling than other ramen shops. Their signature broth mixture also stand out from others I've had, though in the solid 7s. Both times, the pork, however, was not piping hot from being flamed right before serving like Minca or melt in your mouth tender (also like Minca, haha, and other places). Everything else about the bowl is hot, except for the meat topping, and that just seems odd to me. Aside from this, I like the looks and convenience of this place. South Slope Ramen delivered unto me a lovely lunch today. My date and I sat at a two-top in the middle of the restaurant. The waiter gave us menus and glasses of water. I snapped some photos of the new menu: lunch specials have gone up to $15 each. Still, that's probably the best way to explore the menu; each lunch special pairs an appetizer with a bowl of ramen, PLENTY of food. I picked the half curry (katsu chicken, curry, rice) and the classic shoyu ramen. The curry arrived first. Lots of chicken, cooked in a flavorful, manageably spicy curry. Add white rice for delicious bites. My date got the karaage chicken, which also was great dipped in curry. That kind of flavor combo is a power move. The ramen was astounding. The shoyu broth exactly nailed my personal ideal flavor profile. The chashu pork, green onions, bean sprouts, bamboo shoots, and hard-boiled egg, in conjunction with the springy noodles, were like a jazz ensemble, taking turns improvising on my tongue. "Let the music play," I thought, slurping medium-loudly. I had fair expectations going in, and South Slope Ramen totally blew me away. This place will do in a pinch but it's still a miss with their pork bone broth. I was really looking forward to a ramen place opening up closer by me but it's still not as good as some other ramen places up the hill on 7th ave. I tried their Classic Shoyu ramen with pork char su, the pork dumplings and the fried squid tentacles. The wavy noodles was cooked perfectly and the 2 thinly sliced pork char su was tender. This is also the first place I've seen which gives you a whole egg instead of just half an egg. The broth unfortunately was just too watery and not a rich pork bone broth I was expecting. Part of what makes a bowl of ramen great is the broth that it's served in. The pork dumpling was good. Nice meaty texture that was not too firm (too much meat) and not too loose (too much filler). The fried squid tentacle was also a miss. Way too much batter and over fried. Also, it's not really tentacle but more like little squid heads. Overall, a cute cozy spot with super friendly service in South Slope. Room for improvements, not a total write off. I won't mind going back to try other items off their menu. read more
