I would say this is a 3.5 star place, but rounding up to 4. I ordered some delivery Pai Tan Ramen with a wavy noodle substitution. The ramen was alright. It was a pork and chicken based broth, but the broth wasn't very rich and felt a little too oily, like the oil overpowered the flavors of the broth. The noodles were nice and chewy, but the chashu pork on top was extremely dry and the half egg was over cooked. I've been wanting to try South Slope Ramen pretty much since I moved to the neighborhood but they have been renovating for quite some time. My first time going there was on a Friday ~12:30 pm. They have a lunch special that is $15 and comes with an option of 1 of 3 appetizers and one of the ramens. I opted for the gyozo and the Pan Tan ramen. It took a little while for the gyozo to come out but I think it was because they were making it fresh. It was delicious. My ramen came soon after and was very good. Everything in the ramen was cooked to perfection including the egg which was perfectly medium boiled creamy. Even though I arrived at 12:30, I was the only one sitting down to eat at the time. It seems like they do a decent take out business and you can do the lunch special for takeout/delivery. By the time I left around 1 pm, the restaurant did start to fill up. Also, based on overhearing someone else's order it sounds like they have some flexibility with substitutions. I'm definitely interested in coming back and trying all the different appetizers and other ramens. read more

Let's start with how attentive they are including filling up my water 4 times with a full house of customers. I had their signature ramen dish. At the first sip of the broth I knew right away it was going to be a good one! My intake, Have you ever had a dish where you just wish they would have put a little more of that one ingredient well I quickly noticed that there was a good portion balance between the ingredients.. so I didn't have to wish ha. I love how the broth is not to light nor heavy. It was so rich in flavors I had to stop myself before I ended up with dry noodles and pork. Noodles were cooked to perfection (like "Al Dente"). I have had noodles that were thick and super soft. Now the home made pork!!!! Wow. So many other ingredients!!! Personally , I didn't enjoy the Ramen too much . I got the Tan Tan ramen . I asked to have the ground pork substituted for Cha-shu, but I was told that's impossible because the ground pork is cooked into the broth, which was a lie , but whatever . I'm not even mad at that. I also asked for extra scallions, which is didn't receive . I didn't like the taste of the ramen at all ... the broth was very oily and salty . I'm used to ramen being inherently salty , but usually the saltiness is coupled with a very intense flavor , which I didn't find here. The broth was separated by itself and about 1/4 of the cup was oil, which had separated from the broth . I've never seen that before . It wasn't a bad bowl of ramen, but I'm spoiled by Ramen Danbo over on 7th ave. The quality is unparalleled , for the same price . I forgot my credit card at home , as they're credit only , so I decided that I'd try a new ramen spot that takes Apple Pay. I'm pretty disappointed ... plus I wasted 18$. So :/ ..... Although the restaurant may look humble, South Slope has the best Japanese food I have ever eaten in New York City. The takoyaki was so delicious that I went back immediately the following day, and wolfed down at least two more orders. If you live in Sunset Park or Park Slope, there is no reason to travel anywhere else for a bowl of ramen soup or takoyaki. I had their classic shoyu ramen, and the broth was velvety and very flavorful. South Slope Ramen's pork buns were also delightful, with a soft texture and savory meat inside. Customer service was excellent, they truly overdeliver. You can expect truly outstanding customer service and wonderful food. read more

Ramen is probably one of the least well delivered foods. It doesn't compare to ramen served right away of course, so I've been pretty wary about ordering ramen lately in general. Though if you're in the neighborhood and just need some takeout ramen, I'd definitely recommend South Slope Ramen. I've tried both their cold and hot bowls. The cold ramen delivers much better than the hot. The noodles in general are always served separate from the broth, and is always ideal. I've ordered the Veggie Cold Kimchi Ramen, South Slope Chicken Wings, Hiyashi Ramen, and Pai Tan Ramen. The cold ramens are excellent choices for the summer. I really enjoy their Veggie Cold Kimchi bowl ramen and Hiyashi Ramen. If you're a fan of kimchi, you should enjoy these immensely. They have a little bit of spice. The included vegetables are super fresh and varied. The noodles have a nice bite to it but never chewy. Their hot ramen noodles are slightly chewier and clump together. It's a good idea to let the noodles settle into the soup a bit before eating. Their chicken wings are also pretty great if you want a side. I could never finish all the wings though, so it's a healthy portion of food if you plan to get it. Overall, South Slope has been a go to for ramen. I haven't tried ordering ramen from anywhere else because it's probably a real hit or miss. Otherwise, I'd give this place a shot. read more

It wasn't just thrown in the take away container like most places, it was plated like if you were eaten in a restaurant. Also the food was simply amazing, flavorful and light. Came here last Friday with my bf who doesn't really eat ramen and could care less about trying new food. He was even impressed and wanted to go back the next day to get another bowl lol. The staff is really great a woman and the server set a table outside for us. Also the server that night was really friendly and joking with us and the other tables. A very nice ramen joint. I like the lighting and the seats they had. I'm very big on presentation and I felt that their menus shouldn't be on a flimsy white paper. They need to get laminated menus or something but that's just me being picky. The server I had was super nice. I had a very simple order: Tater Tots, two large salads and a green tea. The tater tots were alright. They tasted like Takoyaki sauce but I guess that's how it's supposed to be. Their Kale salad was good but their ginger dressing was not the dressing I had. I think next time I would come back here for the ramen since this is a ramen joint after all. The green tea was nice and hot but not very strong. First I'm going to tell you that the food is absolutely delicious! Then I'm going to tell you that it's not Japanese. But that's OK. I was expecting Japanese ramen but was pleasantly blown away but the flavorful spicy sesame broth in the Tan Tan Ramen. We also had the Pai Tan Ramen (just as good) and the brussel sprouts which are as amazing as everyone says. Portions are huge--really could've done with one ramen split between the two of us, with the appetizer. Next time I'll eat in so that I can walk the 4 blocks uphill afterward. The ramen dishes reminded me of noodle dishes I've had in Singapore and Malaysia--not sure if that's what the chef is aiming for or if it's more "Asian fusion," but frankly, I don't give a damn. This ramen was really good! I ordered from here and I was a little scared because in the past I've ordered ramen from other places and it hasn't traveled well. But the ramen I ordered from here arrived still hot and fresh. I got the Tan Tan Ramen and while I wish it was a little more spicy I thought it was flavorful and the ingredients tasted good. This is a small restaurant with about 6-7 tables. Came on a weekend evening and it was packed and had to wait a few minutes for a table. There is no host at the front, I had to walk to the back where there register is to get a waiters attention for a table, so it's kinda unorganized and can be confusing upon entrance. What was ordered: Beef ramen - compared to all the ramen I've had, this is pretty bad. Absolutely no taste to the broth. Noth worth its price. Fried rice - only dish that was memorable because it tasted really good. I am so glad the renovations are finally done at this place. I have tried several dishes as this point and have been really happy with what I have gotten. To start, I love ramen. I mean love it. So I have been waiting for this place to open. Since my initial try I have had it several times since, all were consistent. So far, this is what I have really liked. The tater tots (they have a fancier name for them), the pork fried rice (better than what you get in most asian restaurants), miso ramen (very good), and their dumplings. All were solid. I went there today, very small and cozy spot. The waiter have us water as soon as we were seated which was great since it was a hot day. My husband and I ordered the Kara age fried chicken which was fantastic, my husband got the tan tan ramen and I got the birria ramen both were very flavorful. I liked his better tho because the birria was very greasy. My husband inhaled his ramen and was done in about 20 mins, I'm a slow eater I was about half way through when the waiter asks if I'm finished, I'm like no. 10 mins later he comes again and asks are you finished I'm like no. I ordered the lunch special Chicken Pai Tan Ramen along with the half chicken curry. The chicken curry is a nice appetizer before starting the ramen. The Chicken Pai Tan ramen is basically just the ramen with half an egg and chicken breast. The ramen is decently made, and the soup itself is typical. One thing to keep in mind when drinking the ramen is that it tends to contain a lot of sodium so I do not recommend drinking all of the soup or you will end up very thirsty afterwards.
