pic from their website showing how they serve their crab cakes
    Kathryn T.

3.5/5 stars | My review is based upon multiple Saturday lunchtime visits. Our experiences were mixed based upon both service and food. Service - there is a young lady (wish I noted her name, previously blonde but was brunette at our last visit) who always provided prompt, friendly service if we were in her section. If we were seated in an area being serviced by the bartender, it was a given that service would be very slow. At our last visit, we were seated by someone who said she would be right back with waters. She disappeared into the kitchen area & about 10m later, I saw her view our table and realize she had forgotten our waters. The restaurant was always less than halfway occupied during these visits, so the service issues were always surprising to me. Food - The reason we returned for multiple visits is because my mother loved their fried shrimp platter. I tried the shrimp and fries and they were great! I can also recommend the Fish Club which I enjoyed on a couple of visits. What I cannot recommend is the Caesar salad with shrimp (dressing was terrible and the shrimp had little flavor) or the crab cakes which they serve burnt not browned. I've included a pic directly from their website that indicates that my order wasn't a fluke.

Nothing beats stumbling onto a great restaurant in a new city and this little spot in a shopping plaza delivered big time. The moment you walk in, it's pure comfort: warm, homey vibes like you stopped in by Grandma's for dinner. We were seated quickly and our server was a gem; she calmed our fears and steered us towards some of the best plates of the night. Started off with conch fritters and gator-tail bites because, why not go full adventurer? Both were hot, delicious and addictive but the star of the night were the fried collard greens that came with the scallops. Think kale chips but better; light, shatteringly crispy with that deep earthy collard flavor shining through. Never seen this preparations before and now I'm ruined for regular collards forever. Everything was fresh, delicious and the prices felt like a steal for the quantity and quality. I love finding unassuming spots like this where you leave and all you can do is rave about it long after the meal is over. A hidden gem that feels like coming home!!

Doing our layover from our trip north. Stopped in Jax and found this place down the street from our hotel. Great reviews and yummy sounding menu. Had a reservation but we were here early so didn't really need it. Everyone was so friendly. Started with an ole faithful cocktail. Delicious! Really well made. Grabbed a bowl of the chowder to start. This was delicious too! Just creamy enough with lots of clams. I landed the fresh catch Mahi mahi blackened. So good! Cooked perfectly with so many good flavors. The portion was just right. I cleaned my plate. Deb had the steak. Ribeye was just ok. The Cajun butter was great and the steak was tender but it was closer to medium the med rare. Really good cocktails as well. Bartenders were rocking it! Casual local vibe. Great service. Good food.

The first thing I wanted to do when I got to Florida was to try alligator. I don't know if getting them deep fried is the correct way to do it, but it was really tasty. The key things were the flounder, which appeared to be a tasty fish. The fries were also good, goes well with cocktails but that's just me. The oyster goes well with the bacon jam sauce, sweet and nice. My only great is not ordering more.

Where do I even start? Oh my god this place was amazing and exceed my expectations. My brother really wanted some seafood. So we stopped by this spot. The place is very nicely decorated with fish and a gator skin on the wall (not real) it was giving us a very fisherman's Florida vibe. Our server was really friendly when she took our order for drinks and food. They have a nice patio on the back with a giant connect for for friends or kids or play outside. We ordered the crab cakes, alligator tail bites, and crunch fritters. My sister was really excited to try alligator, and my brother really wanted to try couch. The appetizers were delicious except that the couch fritters didn't have much counch in them. But we're still good. For the entrees we shared the fresh catch and 3 way platter. For the 3 way platter you can have a choice for picking between 3 proteins. So I picked the fish which was flounder, crab and oysters. The carb and oysters came fried and I could pick for the fish to be fried, grilled or blackened. So I picked for the fish to be grilled. For the fresh catch she said it would be +$4 for us to upgrade to trigger fish and we have never tried it before so we decided to give it a try. It was a good decision. The appetizers came first very quickly, and we are them up so deliciously. They were hot and fresh. Then came the entrees. The fried oysters were very flavorful, the fish was cooked perfectly, and the fried crab was alright. I probably won't get the fried crab again. It was good, but it was mostly breading and imitation crab meat, I was expecting like a crab leg or something. The fresh catch over rice was pretty pleasant the green beans were cooked nicely and the meat of the fish kind of reminder me of bass, we got it blacked so it has lots of flavor. Then finally we got a key lime pie to go. I highly recommend this place!

You'd never think the best seafood in town would be in a strip mall! We had lunch there this week and I was amazed by the quality of the food. I had the fish tacos and my husband had fried shrimp. Wow! I used to think Marker 32 was the best, but Southern Coast is my new favorite. Straight up- there is practically zero ambience. It's a strip mall. But the service was quite professional and the prices were good. We had lunch for two with tea and dessert for $55

We were seeing a movie in the area this afternoon and decided to have lunch here before the movie. It was a good choice. The restaurant is in a strip shopping center on Monument Road. They have indoor, outdoor and bar seating. The menu has plenty of appetizers, salads, sandwiches, tacos, and entrees. We ordered both the Baja shrimp and fish tacos. We chose the sides of French fries and cole slaw. The shrimp tacos were so good with plenty of flavor. The fish tacos were also tasty. The fries and cole slaw were both plentiful and satisfying. Service was friendly and quick from our server, Cassidy.

Nice greetings from Hostess (offered booth or table). Bar crowded for college football. Mahi, Trigger & Grouper fresh fish. No crab cakes - but understandable since we just had Hurricane Helene roll through. Server Natalie gracious. Checked in on us. Bathroom clean. My Mahi & husband's trigger fish both grilled - needed a bit more seasonings. Cole Slaw was quite good.

Went to Southern Coast for some oysters and the Cajun style sounded good but the results were just average. Not much Cajun spice and not much cheese topping and little broth for dipping bread. Even the bread for dipping was sparse. The Bang Bang shrimp were good and a nice appetizer that met expectations. Fortunately the draft beer on tap was nice and cold.

We had a group of 7 that met here for dinner. Our server was super friendly and was able to answer all our questions. The theme of the restaurant is definitely nautical but tasteful. Everyone ordered something different and it was all very good. One friend even had a salad that she said she would get again. We all ordered at once but two of the orders did not come out with the rest. We had to ask in order to get their food. I had fried shrimp and oysters. The shrimp were grilled but had a lot of seasoning on them. The oysters were great. Cole slaw was good and even the fries. If our waitress had not been so good this would be a 3 star due to the long wait for two of our orders. It satisfied my seafood craving.

Oysters were small but so delicious

I have visited Southern Coast several times and they never disappoint. Tonight we were a party of 7 with theatre tkts after dinner. I arrived before my party and was quickly greeted by Natalie. I could tell she was new by her shyness. However she rallied and professionally took care of everyone's needs. Oysters were delicious and a side Caesar for me. My friend ordered a Poke Bowl and she was still talking about it hours later. Thanks Natalie for a job well done.

This was one of those let's try this place it's nearby move. We were pleasantly surprised that a seafood restaurant in a neighborhood alcove could be so inviting and above all delicious. Our waitress was absolutely adorable and so on point with the refills and requests! Give here a raise! So I ordered the fried shrimp, fries and Mac & Cheese. Shrimp perfectly cooked good temperature 10/10 Fries whatever brand they use I would like a bag cause they are delish 10/10 Mac&Cheese - meh, yup it's macaronies with some white sauce maybe cheese mostly at the bottom of the bowl. 1/10 because no excuse for bad MC Waitress 10/10 Food 8/10 3.5 rounded to 4

The restaurant is located in a small shopping center and has a colorful sea related decor inside. I came here to specifically try the Shrimp Charleston, and I was not disappointed. My server Jennifer was friendly, personable and attentive. She anticipated my needs and checked on me frequently. Inside today was very loud, but it seemed to be a lot of celebrations going on around us. From fried green tomatoes to savory grits, to some of the best fried shrimp in the universe

I used to absolutely love this place. It was our go-to for seafood, celebrations, family dinners,…read moreand special occasions for years. We recommended it constantly and genuinely enjoyed supporting them. Unfortunately, after our last few experiences, that loyalty is completely gone. The problems really started during a dinner visit with my spouse. We had a reservation for two and specifically requested a booth because my spouse has herniated discs and booths are much easier on her back. The hostess with glasses told us there were "no booths available for parties of two," so we were seated at a tiny two-top directly in front of an empty booth. Minutes later, another couple - who apparently didn't even have the correct downstairs reservation because Wheel House was closed for a private event - was seated in that exact booth instead. When I politely questioned it, I was told they were "accommodating them." Interesting, because apparently accommodating a medical issue for customers with a reservation didn't matter. Still, we decided to give the restaurant another chance for Mother's Day. To their credit, we were seated at a booth this time after I both noted it in the reservation and called ahead to confirm it. Our waiter was someone we immediately recognized from a previous visit, and my parents mentioned he had waited on us before at that same table. Somehow, from that comment alone, he became convinced we were related to Chef Tim Tillus. From there, things got bizarre. He kept talking about "Timmy," mentioning reunions and saying he used to live with him. The restaurant was extremely loud, and my father had forgotten his hearing aids that day, so honestly we could barely understand what he was talking about. We just smiled politely and focused on asking about the menu because we truly had no clue where the conversation was going. Eventually, he came back and realized we were NOT Chef Tim Tillus' family. He then explained that the kitchen staff had apparently been laughing because the chef saw us and said, "That's not my family." So somehow this became a whole ordeal in the kitchen over a completely innocent misunderstanding. We laughed awkwardly because what else do you do at that point? But honestly, the whole interaction felt strange and unprofessional. Unfortunately, the food was even worse than the awkward service. My spouse ordered the all-day seafood soup, and somehow there was basically ZERO seafood in it. That alone was shocking because their soups used to be incredible. My father ordered the broiled platter, and the portion size was honestly embarrassing for a $29 dish. His parsley potatoes consisted of literally five tiny cubes - my mother counted them because we were in disbelief. We have eaten here for years and NEVER saw portions this small. I ordered the fish special, and it was nothing like described. It was supposed to have pecans and blackening seasoning. There were no pecans, no blackening seasoning, and the fish itself was dry, bland, overcooked, and flavorless. For $32, I was served what looked like a tiny sad pile of fish in the middle of a giant empty plate. The pork chop looked beautiful but tasted absolutely awful. At this point I honestly don't know if the kitchen quality has completely collapsed or if nobody is checking food before it leaves the line anymore. Either way, it was terrible. My mother ordered scallops on the half shell as her meal - something she has enjoyed there many times before. This time, the scallops were tiny and somehow greasy. It was shocking these dishes were even leaving the kitchen. What makes this so disappointing is that we truly loved this restaurant. We weren't casual customers. We supported this place for years because we believed the food and experience were worth it. This wasn't just a mediocre meal or an "off night." This was a genuinely terrible dining experience from start to finish, made worse by the fact that it happened on Mother's Day. The service felt awkward and disorganized, the portions were insulting, the food quality was awful, and there seemed to be zero quality control happening anywhere. At this point, our money will be supporting other establishments instead. It's honestly sad because this place USED to be special. I sincerely hope management fixes the kitchen, consistency, and overall professionalism before even more longtime customers walk away.
