We came here for Mother's Day and I made a reservation just in case it was crazy. The parking lot had a lot of cars but inside was not packed so that worked out for us. With that, we were led to a window booth near the front of the restaurant. There was great debate over what we should have for an app but we both compromised on the Conch Fritters with Bacon Habanero Pepper Jam. We got a side of tartar sauce as well as Mom's not that adventurous. These were really good. For entrees, I got their Fresh Catch Entree and I chose the Trigger Fish (also comes with Smoked Mushrooms, Sundried Tomatoes, Lemon Basil Beurre Blanc, Herbed Jasmine Rice, and Bacon Sherry Charred Green Beans). I hadn't had that in a long time. I don't care much for white fish but this is one that I enjoy eating. Presentation was great and the taste was amazing. Mom got the Cajun Shrimp Pasta (Fettuccine, Sundried Tomatoes, Spinach, Mushrooms, Cajun Parmesan Cream Sauce, and Herb Toasted Panko). She enjoyed her entree and they gave her a pretty good size portion. The only thing she wasn't a fan of was the sundried tomatoes. Nothing wrong with them, she just doesn't like the texture. Our server was really awesome and kept checking in with us to see if we needed anything why also handling the larger parties coming through the door. Stopped in for lunch after walking at the local Jacksonville arboretum. The nice girl that greeted us was a treat as well didn't get her name but very helpful. 3.5/5 stars | My review is based upon multiple Saturday lunchtime visits. Our experiences were mixed based upon both service and food. Service - there is a young lady (wish I noted her name, previously blonde but was brunette at our last visit) who always provided prompt, friendly service if we were in her section. If we were seated in an area being serviced by the bartender, it was a given that service would be very slow. At our last visit, we were seated by someone who said she would be right back with waters. She disappeared into the kitchen area & about 10m later, I saw her view our table and realize she had forgotten our waters. The restaurant was always less than halfway occupied during these visits, so the service issues were always surprising to me. Food - The reason we returned for multiple visits is because my mother loved their fried shrimp platter. I tried the shrimp and fries and they were great! I can also recommend the Fish Club which I enjoyed on a couple of visits. What I cannot recommend is the Caesar salad with shrimp (dressing was terrible and the shrimp had little flavor) or the crab cakes which they serve burnt not browned. Nothing beats stumbling onto a great restaurant in a new city and this little spot in a shopping plaza delivered big time. The moment you walk in, it's pure comfort: warm, homey vibes like you stopped in by Grandma's for dinner. We were seated quickly and our server was a gem; she calmed our fears and steered us towards some of the best plates of the night. Started off with conch fritters and gator-tail bites because, why not go full adventurer? Both were hot, delicious and addictive but the star of the night were the fried collard greens that came with the scallops. Doing our layover from our trip north. Stopped in Jax and found this place down the street from our hotel. Great reviews and yummy sounding menu. Had a reservation but we were here early so didn't really need it. Everyone was so friendly. Started with an ole faithful cocktail. Delicious! Really well made. The first thing I wanted to do when I got to Florida was to try alligator. I don't know if getting them deep fried is the correct way to do it, but it was really tasty. The key things were the flounder, which appeared to be a tasty fish. The fries were also good, goes well with cocktails but that's just me. Where do I even start? Oh my god this place was amazing and exceed my expectations. My brother really wanted some seafood. So we stopped by this spot. The place is very nicely decorated with fish and a gator skin on the wall (not real) it was giving us a very fisherman's Florida vibe. The appetizers were delicious except that the couch fritters didn't have much counch in them. But we're still good. For the entrees we shared the fresh catch and 3 way platter. For the 3 way platter you can have a choice for picking between 3 proteins. So I picked the fish which was flounder, crab and oysters. The carb and oysters came fried and I could pick for the fish to be fried, grilled or blackened. So I picked for the fish to be grilled. For the fresh catch she said it would be +$4 for us to upgrade to trigger fish and we have never tried it before so we decided to give it a try. It was a good decision. The appetizers came first very quickly, and we are them up so deliciously. They were hot and fresh. Then came the entrees. The fried oysters were very flavorful, the fish was cooked perfectly, and the fried crab was alright. I probably won't get the fried crab again. It was good, but it was mostly breading and imitation crab meat, I was expecting like a crab leg or something. The fresh catch over rice was pretty pleasant the green beans were cooked nicely and the meat of the fish kind of reminder me of bass, we got it blacked so it has lots of flavor. We tried smoked fish dip that was decent. The Conch Fitters, fish and chip bites and hushpuppies were so salty and really couldn't be eaten. Everyone ordered something different and it was all very good. One friend even had a salad that she said she would get again. We all ordered at once but two of the orders did not come out with the rest. We had to ask in order to get their food. I had fried shrimp and oysters. The shrimp were grilled but had a lot of seasoning on them. The oysters were great. Cole slaw was good and even the fries. Would recommend - clam chowder: we personally didn't enjoy this because of how much bell pepper was in it (we are not bell pepper people for some reason lol). So the taste of that was overpowering for us - shrimp pasta: underseasoned so we added salt. I am pretty picky when it comes to seafood, especially places that claim fresh caught seafood. This place now ranks up there as one of my favorites for sure! First- we ordered drinks. I tried the Southern Coast Gentleman- Old Forrester bourbon, blackberry jam, muddled mint and fresh orange wedge and good gracious, I could drink that all day. Very dangerous for a bourbon drink. John got the Old Faithful- Old Forrester Bourbon, Angostura Bitters, Orange Bitters and honey. Strong- but balanced through the whole glass, definitely a sipper. Next- dinner. I ordered the grilled shrimp basket with fries and sweet potato mash- all delicious. John got the 2 way basket with fried shrimp and the fresh catch of the day- trigger fish. That FISH! Best trigger I have ever had, absolutely done right. Our server, Sarah was fantastic and asked me what my favorite seafood restaurant was to compare to them. She understood my other fav spot. We went here for lunch after spending the morning at the Jacksonville Arboretum. The atmosphere was calm, and there was plenty of seating. The service was fast and friendly. The food is sooo much better than any of the chain restaurants. We started with the fish dip with crackers which was good, but the meals were delicious. I had the Soca salmon BLT. This is my 1st choice when it comes to seafood restaurants. Sadly we are a little bit far from this place but it's definitely worth the trip. When you first enter the restaurant you will be greeted and you the special will be on the left so make sure to look there because you don't want to miss the good Stuff! This place is huge, they have a bar at the back corner of the restaurant and the rest is a seating area. We've been here 4 times and I have tried their blackened shrimp and the way they seasoned their shrimp is just perfect! The steamed oyster was delicious and I can just eat that everyday! We also tried the fried gator and at first I wasn't sure but I'm so glad I tried it because it was so good! The sides that comes with the food is fries, coleslaw and hush puppies, I don't eat a lot of coleslaw but this coleslaw is great! This place is definitely worth a visit! I loved everything about this place! I was in the area at the botanical garden which is around the corner, and afterwards I was looking for a place for lunch. A web search led us to Southern Coast seafood. The exterior is nothing to speak of, in a strip center right next to a barber shop. That said, we went in at lunch time and we're quickly welcomed by the superstar of the day, Cassidy. She was the hostess, server, and at one point it even looked like she was refilling supplies in the restrooms... We did see other people working, so it just reflected a hard-working young person with a great attitude. I got a couple of tacos which were some of the best I've had, especially the shrimp tacos which had just the right level of heat. Cassidy kept up the drink refills, and even offered a to-go drink. Pricing ended up at just over $20 per person which is quite reasonable for great tacos, amazing french fries, and wonderful coleslaw. There were other patrons enjoying the bar at the time, and it looked like there were some seats out on the patio area - the place is really much larger than it even looks from the outside. We live relatively local, so we'll likely be back soon. read more

I really had high hopes for Southern Coast when I was reading reviews but unfortunately it did not live up to those during our visit tonight. The atmosphere is casual and what you would expect from a typical seafood restaurant. Staff were all very friendly but service was very slow all around. To start we ordered the fried pickles which were good. However, the ranch did not taste homemade s stated on the menu. I had the shrimp and grits which overall was good but the sauce was broken and the shrimp were not flavorful at all. The saving grace was the sausage and the cheesy grits. My son ordered the kids burger and was not impressed. My husband got the grilled grouper platter. One of his pieces was a little over cooked and the other was a bit under on one side. To be fair it was obvious they were in the midst of serving a very large party when we arrived but the restaurant was nowhere near full. Maybe it was just an off night. read more

She also did not say it was an extra fee for switching to a salad verses the coleslaw! Why would it be an extra charge and the sides are the same price if you order them individually. And the restaurant has a problem with flies!!! We had to fan them away the entire time. My girlfriend's cocktail landed a fly on the rim of the glass.
