Shrimp paste with seaweed salad topping?

Still a great classy restaurant. We came in Boxing Day so Chirstmas decorations were still on the walls. Very professional service and excellent food. I liked the shredded chicken and jellyfish dish. We also ordered fried yellow tail fish. I like how the pu er tea was in a glass container while hot water was in a metal container.

Dim sum place on Granville & 67th. Parking is available in an underground lot (not sure if free), as well as the side streets. The place is pretty nice and modern on the inside. Staff are friendly and professional. No problems here. Dim sum quality is quite good. Dishes are few bucks more than the competition, but this is expected. This is the W side after all. One thing that is nice is that the shrimp dumplings and siu mai are 5 per basket. The other dish that stands out is their signature roast duck. Nice and moist, and not too fatty. Wouldn't mind coming back at some point. Recommended.

Came here during a cousin's wedding in Vancouver and got taken here! Good: - Tons of variety and lots of Asian seafood dishes - Amazing fish and noodles - The dimsum all was very fresh - I especially liked the pineapple bbq bun and the egg yolk bun - Bustling ambiance and lots of people around Bad: - More on the expensive side - Very busy so takes some time to flag down a waiter Overall a solid dimsum experience!

This is my go to Chinese restaurant for dim sum and dinner. They are consistently amazing for the last 10+ since I started going. The food is solid and the chef's skills is top notch. Some of my must have: Fish maw soup Bbq duck Bbq pork Roasted pig (pre-order) Jelly fish Mandarin pork chop Black pepper beef tenderloin Beef rice noodle stir fry with bean sprouts Alaskan King Crab steamed with garlic Crabs made in various styles Stirfry scallops with mixed veggies Dim sum Shiu mai Pan fried pea tip bean curb shrimp roll Beef balls Fish maw with Chinese mushroom Dessert Kwai fa go (with goji) Egg tarts As you can see, I love a lot of their food there. If you haven't been here, make sure to make reservations before showing up.

Wow! Amazing seafood, well prepared just as I remembered from my HK days. Every time I come visit my parents in Vancouver, I make sure to organize at least two feasts at Red Star. What I order is predictably the same with minor additions each time. Start with house shark fin soup, followed by whole Peking duck prepared two ways, steamed live shrimps, the king crab three ways. For a group of 5-6, that's plenty. The house deserts rounds out the meal. Services are great because they have people! Would vote for 5 star if there are more drinks choices and better wine list.

Meeting up with friends we haven't seen for a while is always great. Nothing like going for a banquet style dinner at a chinese food restaurant. We started off with their Peking (Beijing) Duck and loved the crispiness of the skin. It seemed liked it was smallish but the flavour made up for it. Next up is one of my favourite vegetables. Pea sprouts! Simply blanched and then cooked with garlic, it's sooooo good! Then the duck lettuce wrap is always a nice second part of the Peking Duck experience. We also ordered what I call deep fried shrimp slathered in mayo and topped off with honey crusted walnuts. Might sound weird but the combo is delicious. Can't have a meal without sweet & sour pork! And their seafood e-fu noodles in a hot pot was excellent. Loved that they had it in a hot pot which kept it hot even at the end of our meal :)

King of Crabs In the world of seafood, King Crab is among the most decadent delicacies and among the multiple species of King Crab, red Alaskan King Crab is considered the very best Vancouver, with one of the largest population of Chinese Americans and expats from Hong Kong, has been the top destination for King Crab feasts that have become so famous that even Hong Kong restaurants refer to the signature 3-style preparation as Vancouver-style. However, in more recent times, due to supply chain issues and increased king crab demand from China, the previously abundant Vancouver king crab season has either been characterized by shortages, significant price inflation or both Red Star is my top King Crab restaurant though I will admit this year the price came as a bit of sticker shock compared to years past Paired with the best whole suckling pig that I've had in my life (serves with hoisin sauce and sugar on the side), this feast was a meal to remember Thank you Red Star! I will forever dream of your unmatched Portuguese baked crab fried rice and salt and pepper deep fried crab! Alaskan King Crab Prepared Three-Styles $96.80 per lb / Steamed King Crab Legs with Garlic / Deep Fried Crab Knuckles with Salt and Pepper / Portuguese Baked Crab Fried Rice / Whole Suckling Pig $388 Red Star Seafood (Vancouver, BC) Red Star is dine-in only and accepts all credit cards including AmEx. Paid parking is available in a lot adjacent to the restaurant.

Red star offers a more premium dining dim sum experience. We come here due to the higher quality and finer dining environment. Staff is almost always more friendly than some of the more popular dim sum spots in town (but this is almost like comparing a restaurant to a Cafe), and free underground parking is available. We have been here quite a few times throughout the years, and have enjoyed anything we have ordered off their dim sum menu. We'll continue to come whenever we are in town.

The food is very delicious from the plates we tried. The green beans tasted amazing, although a bit salty. The hot pot tofu and the prawns with honey walnuts were really delicious. The sweet and sour pork I thought was just okay, there's better places I've tried. But overall it was a very satisfying meal and I would definitely come back!

We enjoy coming to this location for good quality, clean dim sum without having to go into Richmond. The food has always been anywhere from good to excellent. We usually focus on seafood, but their squab is particularly good. The only area that we are consistently disappointed with is that their deep fried items tend to be quite greasy, so we usually avoid it. Normally, this place is packed and you have to wade through a throng of 20++people in line to see the host/ess (make a reservation!), but alas, this weekend the place was barely full and absolutely nobody in line. I suspect that the COVID-19 scare has impacted this place like so many other restaurants. I noted that this weekend, the dim sum menu was significantly smaller than normal, with many of the usual favourites (pan fried seafood dumplings, pan fried radish cake, etc) were not available. That said, maybe because it wasn't as busy, and the menu smaller, that everything we had was excellent (with the exception of the deep fried dumplings which we found a bit too greasy). The squab in particular was really, really excellent and well worth the price and wait.

I've been to Red Star before and was blown away by the food during my first visit. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same this time again. Actually, the food wasn't bad at all but there were other things like hair on our plate and lots of small hair on the napkins. The service was really good, and our waiter, Michael was exceptional. We ordered about 10 different dishes, not all of them are in my photos because we finished a couple of dishes before I managed to take my photos. I believe we ordered the following dishes: - Crispy duck skin and pancakes - scallops on tofu - pepper beef and mushrooms - crispy fried chicken - fried rice - shrimp in egg yolk - Beef noodles with enoki mushrooms - stir fried Duck and lettuce wraps - Shiitake mushrooms, broccoli and nom Choy - Honey garlic pork - Red bean soup. There were 10 of us in our group and we were hungry. We thought we hadn't ordered enough food but we actually ordered more than enough and there were 3 dishes that we took home. Everything was really good but I think most dishes were overly salted, especially the beef dish with mushrooms. Personally, I don't like sweet dishes so the honey garlic pork and the black bean soup didn't really work for me. My friends enjoyed them though. I am not a huge fan of steamed scallops so I didn't try them but based on feedback from the others, it was okay. I think we all like our Scollops nicely seared. The stir fried duck with lettuce wraps were exceptional. Packed with loads of flavour and just a really balanced dish. If you want a nice, fresh and healthy dish, go for the shiitake mushroom, broccoli and bok Choy dish. Just delicious! What I also really enjoyed was the shrimp dish, cooked with egg yolk. Who knew this could make such a delicious unhealthy dish but once in a blue moon, it's just divine! The winner for me was the crispy duck, as always. I could've just eaten the duck and be satisfied but dinner but everything else was quite good. We paid about $400, including tips for everything. I can't wait for the next time to have crispy duck skin from here again.

Red Star Seafood Restaurant Vancouver location serves good quality food, and excellent customer service! The only issue we had was the chicken feet (lacked seasoning) but other than that the food was delicious! * Steamed Pork Siu Mai * Shanghai Steamed Dumplings * Braised Abalone & Supreme Dumpling in Soup * Rice Flour Rolls w/ Beef & Parsley * Sticky Rice Wraps w/ Dried Scallops * Steamed Crystal Prawn Dumplings * Chicken Feet w/ House Sauce * Squid Tentacles w/ salt & pepper I've been told due to COVID-19 the restaurant isn't as busy as how it usually is. We went on a weekday but people slowly started to trickle in, the wait isn't long so you wouldn't have a problem waiting for a while when you're hungry! There's also free underground parking as well!

She wanted to go to Kirin. Plenty of parking in the mall. Hostess greeted and seated us promptly. Restaurant was busy but not crazy. This was at 10am on a Thursday. Waiters were attentive. Usual table service was in place. Took our order and food came out at acceptable pace. When we were done, they politely boxed up the leftovers and we paid our bill. So service was on point. The food we ordered came out hot. The staples that I order to test was hargow, suimai and pai gwut(spareribs). All 3 dishes in general were good.....the hargow could have used an extra minute or 2 in the steamer. The suimai was very good. I tasted every ingredient in this dish. Usually it is just a complete mix and you can't discern the different flavors. They tried something different with the cheongfun by adding pieces of Chinese donut to the roll. I personally think it didn't add much to the dish, taste or texture wise. I did like the pea shoots with shrimp. I think it is a good combo. All in all a good dimsum. I also noticed they did not charge us a tea service. The cost of the food is comparable with other restaurants at this level. New Town Bakery is one of those Chinatown staples that feels like a rite of passage in Vancouver…read more We headed there for breakfast, excited for pastries and a classic bakery experience, and decided to dine in. Once we sat down and were handed the full menu, though, I had a brief moment of panic. The menu is huuuge and varied, plus none of the items I had mentally planned on ordering were on there. We pivoted and ordered pork siu mai, congee, look fun noodles, and a few steamed buns (they're especially known for those). The congee, noodles, and siu mai were all fine--very standard, not particularly memorable. In fairness, they weren't what I came for in the first place, so that probably shaped my expectations. The real standouts were the pork asado siopao and the chicken deluxe (bola bola). Both have Filipino roots, and the siopao especially brought a comforting sense of familiarity--soft, fluffy, and filled with that sweet-savory pork that felt like home. Those alone made the visit worthwhile. They actually have quite a few other Filipino influenced items like hopia and puto which was surprising. Ironically, it was only after we left that I noticed the sign on the window highlighting their most popular items--exactly what first-timers should probably stick to. I had ordered a few pastries to go with the intention of trying them later... and then completely forgot about them, which I'm still a little sad about. Overall, it was a good visit with a clear lesson learned: go in with a game plan and order the hits. It's a beloved Vancouver institution for a reason, and I'd definitely recommend stopping by--just know it's cash only and do a little pre-order research so you can make the most of it. I'd give it more like a 3.5 vs a 4 star, but I'm already planning a redo focused purely on the classics.

However, what truly disappointed me was the poor service. Even though the restaurant was not busy, the dishes were served very slowly. The first 2 dishes came out fast, but the later 2 dishes came out after 45 min. When we asked for additional rice and water, we had to wait an unusually long time. Throughout the meal, we felt neglected. It was hard not to feel that the level of service was noticeably indifferent, possibly because we did not order any high-priced seafood or premium dishes.
