Ate breakfast on a Saturday morning. They were very busy but the wait for a table was short. I had the country biscuit and fell in love! Cat head biscuits ( as big as a cat's head) covered in sausage gravy. These were some of the best I have had in a long time. I will definitely be back to try the pancakes!!! read more

After 10 years I re-visited a staple of my childhood and this time I took my wife and the food was awesome!!! My Waffle was cooked just right and my wife fell in love with the place she wishes we can go back tomorrow but we have to work. The only criticism was the waitress took over 10 mins to take our order, but later apologize due to an assumption on her part. We've been eating there for years since their original location down the street, love the always friendly staff. However, they just changed the menu as I found out when we stopped in this morning...who would pay $3 for one egg? $7 for a sausage biscuit? A burnt one at that? The manager double charged me and hoped I would not notice till I caught him. Mark is his name, if he rings you up...pay attention. Plus, he's just plain rude...every time I've encountered him. $21 for a take-out breakfast of two biscuits and one order of hashbrowns. Seriously. They just lost two good customers in us. The food was pretty good, regular pancakes weren't fresh. Blueberry were better, meats, eggs were fine. Coffee not the best, hash browns are with cheese(no other way to order). Wouldn't visit again, waitress wasn't as customer friendly! I still tipped her.. read more

I was just there today for breakfast. The line was out the door. I've been here before and it's always good. Luckily I was alone so I could sit at the counter with no wait. The service and coffee were excellent. Then the shock began. I was given half my order and told the rest was coming?? You could hardly cut the pancakes with a knife, like rubber. Then I got the rest. Egg and hashbrowns were ok but the biscuit was anything but light and fluffy. All in all I don't think I'll go back. Major disappointment. read more

Very good bkfst/lunch place. Diner-like. Extensive menu with interesting specials. I had Caesar salad with gyros on it. Very good and plentiful salad with several strips of gyro meat on top. It was more than enough for lunch. My companion had one of her favorites- eggs Benedict, or Eggs Benny at Southern Kitchen. The eggs were typical which is good. The hash browns were special: crunch on the outside with cheese in the middle. Great! To make it even better, the price was right. We would go again. read more

Southern Kitchen is a great gem in Lake Park on US1. I have been going there since 2000 and it is always consistently good. Unfortunately it is only open for breakfast and lunch, but also use to serve great dinners. The mainstay, Yankee Pot Roast melts in your mouth. The burgers are juicy and made to order (they actually know what medium is). I haven't found anything on the menu that I didn't like. The best thing is, the prices are great and the staff treat you like family. I would definitely recommend the Southern Kitchen as a definite stop for real food. read more

Best breakfast in the area. Food and service are way above the quality associated with such reasonable prices and large portions. Now that the town has taken away parking meters finding parking is not a hassle and it is nice to walk park and waterfront after meal! Pancakes are good but better with either blueberries or special ways sometimes offered in daily deals. Large amount of comfortable seating choices but sometimes there is a wait... but well worth the wait. Really not as noisy as would be expected for so many dining. Could be not much time spent talking because the service is quick and food so good! I have seen lots of family with even babies but never hear upset children who must be happily eating here! read more

My last visit to this restaurant was about 4 years ago. Not sure if it is under new ownership/management but it wasn't the same today. The food tasted like my mom's retirement home meals. It was not as tasty as I remember. I would expect more flavor from a restaurant name "southern" kitchen. Thankfully the staff worked as a team. My server disappeared after three stops.Someone else stepped in and took care of us as if she were our original server. I ordered a slice of cake to go----only to find that I paid nearly $4 for a slither. I still tipped 20% which I will not do in the future. Gratuity should be earned not expected. Not sure if I will return.....maybe a bad day. read more

This is a favorite local breakfast spot in this area but honestly it's mediocre at best. I've ordered omelets, biscuits & gravy, and ham/bacon egg & cheese sandwiches. The bagels are nasty, soggy, stale and either not toasted at all or burnt. The biscuits and gravy are 'meh', the omelet was decent though. Overall I recommend you drive a little further south to the Gun Club Cafe (Summit Blvd & Military Tr). Now that's a good breakfast!! read more

The eggs were cooked perfectly and the chicken fried steak was yummy. Home spun food and great friendly service. Breakfast and lunch are wonderful and consistent. Be prepared for a bit of a wait even on a weekday morning as Southern Kitchen is popular and very busy. Food is plentiful, well prepared and always hot and fresh. The coffee is worthy of the trip as it is not watered down - rich, dark roasted and tastes real, strong and good. A very clean, warm, no pretense environment. They also seem to remember guests from visit to visit which amazes me from the perspective of how busy the place is all of the time. It does not proclaim to be the dining room at the Four Seasons - it is the Southern Kitchen and delivers just that, great southern food and hospitality in a friendly and easy place. A must if you want some great food in a warm atmosphere. If you are concerned with menu prices - this is so easy for someone on a budget they will splurge on extras. read more

We made our first visit to Southern Kitchen today for lunch. We ordered a Patty Melt Sandwich and an order of Country Fried Steak. Both were very good and fresh. The Patty Melt on pumpernickel rye swirl was with a very sizable beef patty and cooked perfectly. The Country Fried Steak was very tender and moist. The batter crust was cooked perfectly and nice and crunchy. It came with brown gravy, mashed potatoes and mixed vegetables. With the meal is served a very good large size of homemade Corn Bread....tasty! The service was very friendly and prompt. The restaurant is very clean and comfortable. For true Southern food, Fried Chicken and maybe additional traditional veggy side dishes (collards, fried okra, candied yams, southern style green beans) would fit nicely. Additionally we strongly approve of their choice of what cable news network to have on their tv monitors. We will visit again when in the area. There is no reason to not rate as a solid 4 Star. read more
