Delicious fish and burgers were served in a friendly atmosphere. Ahi tuna was every bit as good as any I've ever had, and the portion size was huge. Like other reviewers, I'd definitely recommend the carrot cake, but the key lime pie was the standout dessert on our table. It's not in the fanciest strip mall in Myrtle Beach, but it serves up food markedly better than that served at familiar chain restaurants flanking 17. Absolutely incredible. Went down with my family and girlfriend, everything we had was literally perfect. From the taste of the crab stuffed mushrooms, to the freshness of the fish to the perfectly cooked ribeye that needed no sauce at all. This is a Pro Pittsburgh restaurant that does allow BYOB. Run by the McKee family, who you will meet while dining. They are as great as their food. I am incredibly picky about service and Lizzy was perfect to the T on serving. We enjoyed our meal. The crab cakes were delicious, all crab. My wife had the grouper a la kim. Grouper with crab meat on top and cheese. It was cooked to perfection, but could have used a bit less cheese. The others in our party had the burgers. They thought their burgers were great, tasted like fresh ground beef. They were huge. The fries were great. Like a twice fried. The baked potato was also flashed fried. It was very tasty. The only down side was the canned green beans served with the dinner. Based on excellent Yelp reviews, we decided to try this family run restaurant. From the moment you walk in, you are greeted and treated like family. We must have timed it right, because we were seated right away- by the time we left they were packed with regulars. We had the seafood platter, which I had grilled vs fried, and was delicious. Husband had crab cakes and was very happy. We rounded out meal with their coleslaw and baked potatoes, which had a yummy crunchy exterior. We took dessert to go because we were so full. When we got back home, we found Mimi had given us both carrot cake AND cheesecake because we had a tough time choosing! Thank you! Now that's how to gain a regular customer! Highly recommended. It's in a small strip mall and not particularly noticeable among all the other restaurants but we were led by the other correct Yelp reviews. We were a party of 6 and turns out the only ones not locals. Every morsel of food was fresh, made with much care, hot, and large portion. We had some non-seafood items that were big hits. The cheese burger was huge and fries hot. Another had the bacon cheese quesadilla which had just the right southwestern seasoning. I had fish of the day and chose grouper. Oh boy!! 3 huge pieces, lightly coated, hot, and not at all greasy. Green beans which might have been canned but were still just right for me. Also accompanied with baked potato (that had a coating) and a very fresh salad. One person had crab cakes. These were 3 large, flat circles full of very fresh crab. Excellent quality and taste. 2 had the fisherman platter. This came with fish of the day (your choice), 3 huge shrimp and a crab cake. Everyone of us would get the same dishes again as well as each others. There was nothing bad. We picked desserts based on the Yelp pictures. The best was the chocolate strawberry cheesecake. My least favorite was the coconut cream. It's good quality but just too much "fluff" for my taste. The service was top notch, family oriented. We are first time visitors to Myrtle Beach. Looking for a place to eat we saw the 5 star rating for this restaurant and decided to try it. It is a cozy family run place that is only open Wednesday through Saturday from 4:30-8pm. The food was so good on Friday we had to go back on Saturday as it was the only other day we could eat there since we were only in the area until Tuesday. The portions were generous, prices reasonable and all the food is fresh and delicious. The desserts are all homemade. We were so full from our meals we got desserts to go each night, and boy are we ever glad we did! We highly recommend this restaurant and will be sure to eat here again the next time we are in Myrtle Beach. read more

Now this was a unique dining experience! We came in after a heavy rainstorm, and they were experiencing some challenges with the kitchen hood and the credit card machine. Very small place, very focused on local clientele. Some of the waiters are regulars, it was nice to see the familiarity between the chef, hostess, and waitresses. The chef came out and mingled with every table, regulars and all. Nice touch which you never see anymore. This is a 'cozy' restaurant; if you don't like that feeling, this may not be the place for you! BYOB. The food was FANTASTIC! We had burgers which were BIG and tested wonderful. The kids had quesadillas with crab and chicken tenders, which were all really good. The quesadilla was loaded with crab meat! I wish the waitress would have informed me when we arrived about the credit card machine issue - if I seriously hadn't had my kids cash with me I'm not sure what we would have done...? I would also recommend seating people waiting as soon as possible, get them a water, and then let them wait for waitress versus holding parties at the door (no room for anyone); it took a long time to seat 3 parties and the waiting area was jammed and uncomfortable. JUST DON'T, DRIVE ON BY AND FIND SOMEWHERE ELSE. I will find something nice to say about any establishment, for this resturant it's their fried potato. My husband, two sister's and myself went there tonight. My husband ordered the pork chops, my two sister's ordered the hamburger steak and I ordered a cheeseburger. First problem was the salads were brought to the table but there was only two sets of silverware we tried to get the attention of the server but it didn't happen. The place was busy so my sister's ended up sharing a fork. When they brought the entrees out we told them about the situation and they brought two more sets. Second problem was the food. I ordered a cheese burger but got a hamburger. As problems go that was not so bad. One of my sister's hamburger steak was red in the middle while the other was fully cooked. My sister had taken one bite and literally spit it out and my husband asked for it to be well done, she nor I can't stand raw meat. The lady came and took it back to be cooked well done which it should always be cooked well done unless asked otherwise. It was brought back, THE SAME PIECE INCLUDING THE PIECE SHE SPIT OUT! That means that everyone who's food was cooked after that had to be contaminated. My husband's pork chops were huge but it was bloody at the bone. My husband loves thick pork chops and cooks them often and they are never red anywhere in it. Third problem was the owner. When my husband pointed it out to the daughter, this is a family owned place, she said that it was a blood line and that's the way it is. My husband asked to speak with the owner and to say he was rude and condescending is an understatement. I told him we didn't want a discount or free food but wanted to let him know that the food was a problem. By this time both my sisters had walked out and I was disgusted. The owner took the plate with the pork chop on it and asked if we wanted it and I said I would feed it to my dog. Between the food and attitude I had more than enough and I walked out. My husband told us on the way home that the owner took half of the pork chops off the bill but we didn't ask nor expect that. In this establishment it not how you want it nor how it's suppose to be, it nothing but a nasty attitude and excuses for their mistakes. The Department of Health and Environmental Control should look into this resturant. Samonella and E. Coli are very real and nasty things to get. My family had been out shopping all day but if this is the only resturant open I will find a gas station and buy a burnt hot dog before I'll eat there again. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!! In fact the more I think about it, I feel that I have a responsibility to report them but I hate to do that to a mom and pop place. read more

Had dinner there last week. Chose them because of ratings. Great choice. Great food, terrible Pittsburgh decor. Being a Washington Caps fan I gave them a chance anyway. Food was fantastic. My family and I dined at this restaurant on August 9th, for my birthday while on vacation. I had read all of the fantastic yelp reviews, and decided on Southside Grill. It is in a small strip mall and is very unassuming, however don't let this deter you. The dinner was without a doubt the best of the 6 that we had on our vacation, and the service was outstanding. You can tell it is family run, and the family takes pride in their business. The crab cakes were hands down the best that I have had, and everyone in our party of 6 had five star reviews of the food, from steak to shrimp to the fish of the day. And make sure you try the desserts- all homemade. The carrot cake was something else, and has apparently been in several contests. We also got the last slice of key lime pie for the day! I was really excited to return for dinner at Southside Grill. More off-season this time, so not quite as busy. Still a nice selection of Chef's Specials that all sounded great. Those crab cakes are just insanely good, so I had to have them again. This time I had a very nice simple salad, and another one of those PERFECT baked potatoes. There's some secret about how the potatoes are prepared...I don't know Rick's secret, but he's a kitchen wizard. This time Mimi had made coconut pie. So good you have to lay down to eat it. Perfect flaky, tender crust. Light and creamy filling. Super-fresh. Was a tough choice, because the apple pie also looked terrific. Complimentary Toll House (or Toll House type) cookie was the best cookie I've had in at least ten years. So fresh, buttery, excellent quality nuts and chocolate, baked perfectly. My goodness. We found this after a search on Yelp for a restaurant close to our hotel that served a variety of food. I ordered a crab cake sandwich and it was delicious! Lightly breaded, then grilled and perfectly seasoned. The crab the chef used was buttery good! My husband, who is from Maryland, tried it and loved it! The prices were very reasonable and the waitress was so friendly. She offered my kids a piece of candy from her candy bucket! Even the chef came out and talked to us (he's funny!). Hey! This very small, casual, family run eatery located in a strip mall shouldn't be ignored. Being a person who has been invested and passionate in the world of culinary arts for 30+ years, I can tell by smell, taste and sight if meals are well prepared with fresh ingredients and ideas. First off BYOB!!! They do not serve alcohol but you can bring your own. The fish, crab cakes, shrimp are excellent. Homemade slaw that has the right balance of sweet and vinegar without being to saucy is a refreshing compliment to any dish. Leave room for dessert! They are homemade and very, very tasty. Specials change daily as do desserts. In a place that is overwhelmed by seafood restaurants, most of them getting their seafood from Vietnam... It is really nice to find restaurants that serve good quality, well prepared food without the atmosphere of the 100 item buffets that feel more to me like troughs for animals rather than a place that caters to paying customers. I had the crab cake sandwich and it was really good, I would definitely get it again. We tried the fried pickle appetizer and they were disappointing, wouldn't get those again. Because of the the reviews of this restaurant's carrot cake in Southern living we decided to try it while in Myrtle Beach. My husband had the mushroom Swiss burger and really really enjoyed it. I had the grilled grouper with the mango salsa. I had to send the grouper back to be cooked a little more. I have now discovered that I do not care for grouper. This was not the fault of the restaurant! The baked potato was delicious and the salad was really good. Not just iceberg lettuce. However the carrot cake did not disappoint. Was the best carrot cake I've ever eaten. The wait staff was very friendly and helpful. Because I had to send the fish back, they gave us the piece carrot cake free of charge. It was a monstrously big piece of cake. I will return to this place again next time we are in Myrtle Beach. read more

The drawbacks first: it's a tiny place and you may have to wait for a table. It's clearly family run and they don't get in any hurry...I mean for ANYTHING! I definitely wouldn't come here if I had somewhere to be after dinner. The good stuff: the food was delicious! We had the crab cakes (thin and fried and they add pimiento which gives it a great flavor), the fried shrimp (large shrimp but you only get about 10) and they were both served with baked potato and green beans. The kids cheeseburgers also looked delicious and homemade. We were too stuffed for the homemade desserts, unfortunately. This is definitely somewhere we would come again. read more

We tried this place after reading a review on Yelp. It does not look like much from the outside and it is very small on the inside - only 9 tables. We tried a little of everything - had grouper, a burger, shrimp, flounder and quesadillas. ALL were amazing. You must get the stuffed mushrooms and save room for desserts. All homemade by the owner. Do not forget BYOB and wine. We had a cooler with us and they promptly brought us glasses for our beverages. The owners are a delight all the way to their daughter who greeted us when we walked in. The Southside Grill is a real local find! Great food, great service and a real home-style ambience. It's easy to miss because it's a small place in a strip mall on 17 - not much to look at on the outside but a cute diner-style feel on the inside full of Pittsburgh memorabilia. I had a pork chop special that was tasty and plentiful. The baked potato was fantastic. Gary got the Seafood Platter that included a variety of fresh seafood and a delicious crab cake.
