When I go to southern churches, I can hear the SOUTH BELLS When I get some Cajun food, I can smell the SOUTH SMELLS The North can seem disjointed, but somehow the SOUTH GELS And when I want diner food in Houston, I do SOUTHWELLS! WHAT! Southwell's is a Houston Legend and a specialty shop which has wonderful burgers and great chicken sandwiches, juicy and fresh and tasty with plenty of chicken on them. Barbi has been to a couple of them with me and she agrees, they have excellent burgers and really great chicken sandwiches. They're not cheap but they're not expensive, and service is usually great at all the different locations, including this one, which was having a huge problem with a very angry customer/homeless person (I couldn't tell which) but was still nice to me when they finally served me. There are 4 locations, and I've been to 3 so far. There might be more I don't know about. Southwells definitely have some of the best sandwiches in town and we always appreciate every single bite. Service here was not too bad, although I prefer the other locations for that.

I wanted to like it better. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't particularly impressive. The service wasn't horrible, but it wasn't particularly friendly or welcoming. The food did come out quick, fresh, and hot. It was better than a fast food chain, but it didn't wow me. Maybe the burger needed a bit more seasoning. Even the atmosphere and decor fell short. Not funky enough for a dive, not cute enough for retro, and not not snazzy enough for nice. It's ok for a neighborhood place, but nothing calls to me to make it a destination.

My favorite sandwich spot in Houston! The grilled chicken supreme is my go to. They had great onion rings but just recently switched- Please Go Back to the Original Onion Rings!!!. The inside is always clean and has TV w games on, and truly friendly prompt service. The onion ring switch really threw off my mood and expectations coming back to my Home.

I got 50's diner vibes from this place. It's small and you order at the counter where the menu is right above it, they have a good selection of burgers and chicken sandwiches, and they also offer veggie patties for any of them which was nice. (I don't eat beef so that's what I got when my husband said he was wanting burgers.) They deliver the food to your table when it's ready, and you seat yourself. I ordered the mushroom burger with the veggie patty, it was really good, it had a nice crust on it, they served it on a wheat bun and I included all the vegetables on it which were tomato, lettuce, onions, and of course mushrooms and Swiss. The fries were fresh too, not too bad for a burger joint, I wish they had a turkey patty option but overall I ate my whole meal.

Had to update the review just on quality of burger. Unfortunately not the best patty but good bun and fries. Gave it a 3 off of my first experience and went back just to give it a second try and unfortunately it still was pretty bland of a burger but enjoyed the brownie and the hand cut fries are skinny but good. I really like to support independent business as I suspect Southwell's but not the burger for me and I like burgers! Will not return but give it a try as they have a variety of sandwiches.

Looking for an old fashioned burger? Come on in!! This place is busy. Small and just a tad bit too crowded for me. But most peeps are picking up Togo orders. Food came and it's a much better hamburger than McDonald's. Fresh cut fries are my favorite. I like the ones that aren't so crispy and crunchy. Well our tummies are full and happy. It's nit a place to write home about but it's a place to fill your belly. Music they were playing was 50's would be nice if it was louder.

Natural cut fries - thumbs down

I have mixed feelings about this place. And here's why. Burger 4/5 - cheeseburger made to order. Served hot. Seasoned and flavorful. Overall good homemade burger taste. Fries 0/5 - natural cut. soggy, unseasoned, saturated with grease, inedible. If I had dined-in, I would have complained, requested a refund, or a replacement item. I saw lots of customers with waffle fries that looked much better. I'm just now a fan of waffle fries. Service 4/5 - nice folks. Quick and friendly service

The butter had a unique flavor and paired well with the chicken. The pancake and waffle were also big portions. The latte was sweet and well balanced. Portions are large/filling and we felt the food was delicious and a good value for money. When we arrived the line was long and menus were not available so we had to search for the menu on the website to avoid deciding at the counter and holding up the people behind us. After ordering, tables were cleaned consistently and service was friendly. Only feedback about seating was outside parties would take chairs from other tables and leave them with no seating and not all tables we're shaded. The drinks being available at the bar when it is busy and then food being delivered to the table was a bit clunky. I picked up water and utensils for our party before sitting and would have preferred to have to pick everything up at the counter or have everything brought to the table to avoid multiple trips around when the restaurant is busy.
