Past experiences with Cuban food has been blah at best. Ordered two mojo pork bowls for delivery the other night and completely changed my opinion. The pork over rice and beans was perfect (dare I even use the dreaded word "moist"!?), plantains fantastic, but the star was the mashed yucca. Never had anything like it - hint of garlic with addictive qualities that rival great mashed potatoes. All together we were equally surprised and blown away. We stopped by Soy Cubano this evening. We loved it!! We had a Cuban and a side salad. Amazing!! It's in the building that says The Wash on the side. It's a walk up, order, have a seat on the mostly covered patio. Javier brought the food out to us. It looked great, tasted even better. The patio served for four other small eateries. Even being in an open area we heard very little road noise. We were about 10 feet above the road, there was 5 foot wall with bamboo growing out of it which combined made it very easy to talk. We will be back. The only problem will be another really good Cuban or try something else on the mend. It all sounds so good. read more

This restaurant is a gem! You order at the window, and dine in the nicely decorated outdoor seating area. A really neat place, where there used to be a car wash and it's now newly renovated with several restaurants. The breakfast sandwich I had was simply amazing! And my daughter loved the black bean chilaquiles plate. We both shared a classic plantain banana side, and were very pleased overall with the quality of the food and the owner's hospitality. If I could give a million stars I would. This place is SOOO good. I placed a curbside order and when the gentleman brought it out he wanted to make sure that I knew my entree was vegan but the side I ordered was not. I'm vegetarian, not vegan but I thought it was very sweet and thoughtful that he wanted to make sure I knew that. He also wore a mask, so very covid safe. I only had contact with him and a woman on the phone but they were both VERY friendly. I ordered the black bean bowl and elote and everything was so delicious and flavorful. Unbelievably good cuban food and friendly, sincere customer service! West Nashville is so much better off with this place in the neighborhood. Online ordering and curbside pickup was as easy as it could be, prices were reasonable, and portions were filling. We got the cuban sandwich and the Mojo Pork bowl with a side of elotes (street corn). Everything was amazing. There was careful attention paid to each component of each dish. Terrific croquetas, guava & cheese pastelito, and Cuban sandwich! The pollo a la plancha (curiously misspelled "pancha" on their menu), was dry, but the yuca was tasty and the plantains good. The black beans need a little work. This Miami transplant is thrilled to have any Cuban food available however! We should have not paid for parking since it is all takeout and the outside seating was freezing. read more

A little disappointed with my experience. It took about 25 minutes to get my sandwich to go after ordering, only to discover when I got back that it was the wrong sandwich. The flavors are good and I think if you order ahead, it will alleviate the timing issue. Willing to give it another chance down the road to try the pork. read more

By far one of the best meals I've had in a long time. I wish I had taken a picture of the arroz con pollo before I started because nothing was left when I set down my fork. If you haven't tried Soy Cubano yet, please do your taste buds and your soul a favor and pick up some of their home cooked Cuban food. We had so much fun at one of their Never Never pop-up nights - we got the abuela's dip and the black bean bowl (I'm vegetarian), and they were SOOOO yummy! I've never had plantain prepared so tender and sweet. Not only is the food amazing but Javier and Solana bring such a fun energy to the meal - it's really more of an experience. The Palomilla steak is cheap steak not the traditional. Also, the black beans and rice had no flavor. The staff was rude and not at all welcoming. Unlike traditional Cuban restaurants, they do not serve Cuban bread with the meal. The menu lacked variety and some food items run out early. Can't really mess up on the yuca or the plantains. The chicken was good and salad was fresh but the moros were terrible it tasted like they just actually mixed rice and beans together. To say the least , I was very dissatisfied with the bland food and the people who own it. Not too friendly. I will not be back. After having real Cuban food all over Miami it's hard to beat.but I guess if you bring Cuban food to Nashville it may work . Ham croquettes were no good; too over cooked and used cheap ham and they didn't have crackers and hot sauce like the traditional way. It just seems that they are using cheap ingredients. I finally, FINALLY tried a Cuban sandwich from Soy Cubano. And let me tell y'all, it is the first good Cuban sandwich I've ever had in Nashville. I've been searching for years! Having grown up in Tampa, Fl, yeah, I might be what you would consider a Cuban sandwich snob. I can't help it. If you know, you know. And if you don't know, well, maybe you're the lucky one who isn't constantly chasing down the unicorn that is a legit Cuban sandwich. Anyhow, Soy Cubano is popping up all over the place, so you have plenty of opportunities to track them down and treat yourself to some wonderful food. I personally had my first taste at the farmer's market downtown this past weekend, and can't wait to try more of their offerings in the near future! It's the attention to detail that really speaks with this food. Great bread (it really, really matters!), thinly sliced pickles, the perfect amount of condiments... I wouldn't have changed a thing! We got a little bit of everything, and the Cuban and the plantains were definitely my favorite but it was all insanely good. Easy pickup at citizens kitchen on Alabama basically next to McDonald's on 47th. The owner was there cooking the food. Do yourself a favor and order. I plan to add into the rotation. read more
