Reyes Mexican Grill is situated on Dickerson Pike and is a solid 3.5 stars, but since I can't award half stars, I'll err on the side of Reyes with a 4, and I can live with that. Reyes has been open for well over a year, the building it occupies has been many things over the years from a large chain buffet to a local chicken and waffles spot. Now Reyes is giving it a shot. I drive by Reyes almost daily and never notice crowds, so I have been shy to stop in, however I finally decided to pop in on a Sunday afternoon and happened to be only one of two tables dining. I will say that the night prior it looked pretty busy as I noticed they do karaoke on the weekends. Walking up I noted their entry sign which details out their hours along with their commitment to acceptance of all people, which was wonderful to see! Upon entry, the vestibule opens up to a large colorful and spacious dining space with tables, booths, a curved bar, several TV's and a stage. There appears to be a semi-private dining room towards the back as well. I had the pick of the place and opted for a small table near the windows. Seating was in good shape, but many of the tables, including mine were a bit shaky, which was evident by the numerous napkins shoved under one of the legs of several tables. The menu was well designed and sectioned, had plenty of options and variety, but not too much like some other Mexican spots. Had house specials, and all the classics mixed in. This goes for food and beverages. I started with a small queso along with the complimentary chips and salsa. Chips were standard, queso was tasty but the salsa was delicious and maybe some of the best I have had at a Mexican place. You could tell it was house made as visible pieces of cilantro and veggies have texture and taste! For my entree I went with the Enchiladas Tricolor, which is, as you guessed it, three enchiladas, each a different color with one having red salsa, another green and the third cheese. The chicken was shredded and each enchilada was packed. Shredded chicken is easily dry, but I was happy with the quality here. The rice was your standard rice, with the exception of green beans and corn, which I enjoyed. For my meal and appetizer plus a water, my check at around $17. Service was okay. While I was one of only two tables, she didn't make her rounds any more frequently and only stopped by to get my order, drop my food off and drop my check. She was friendly, but not very attentive or engaging. Overall, I enjoyed my meal at Reyes. Glad to out it in the rotation, especially because it is so close to the house. read more

Service was very friendly and the food was good. The menu is fairly standard, but everything we ate was cooked to order and piping hot. The salsa bar is a nice touch and the drink prices are fair. Food prices are perhaps a touch on the higher side for some dishes, but not unreasonably so. Plenty of parking and the restaurant including restrooms was spotlessly clean. I just had the enchilladas superemas plate and it hit the spot. My wife had the Polla al Carbon and it was a huge platter--the chicken grilled perfectly (as I got to try a few bites). read more

I was very impressed with the new restaurant, Reyes. We went on a Saturday night and were seated right away. There was a big party in the party room, so the host warned us the service might be slow. However, we had no problems at all. The place was clean, well-lit, and we had a quick and attentive server. Our food and drinks were absolutely delicious. Family owned with wonderful ambiance and delicious food. Service was friendly and very warm. The live music was great, sports on the TV's with beautiful art on the walls. Food took 30 min to come out and they were not even kind of busy. When it did, they forgot part of our order. Tacos were really, really bad. I ordered a shot of Don Julio that I'm quite sure wasn't Don Julio, and they only have a 1 ounce pour. If you are even vaguely familiar with Mexican food, I highly recommend you avoid this place. went for some dinner with a friend and her child. not only did we have to wait 5 mins to be seated but the table was dirty and they did not have a booster seat for the child! we end up getting seated and we order three drinks. one kid's lemonade, one adult lemonade and one water. remember those drinks they will come back into the story. we get chips and salsa thrown onto the table by the waitress without any introduction or anything. she then comes back 3 mins later and asks how many menus. we get the menus start to look and she passes us a good 10 times while we are waving her down ready to order. at this point we have decided to go else where. i don't want to get put on the wall of people who didn't pay so i ask how much. $10 for two lemonades and one is a kids! i hand her a semi torn $10 bill and she takes it looks at it (accidentally) tears it a little more and says she cannot take it. i pay in ones and leave without my change or receipt. will not be back. read more

I am always looking for a good Mexican place and this one is very close to my house - which makes it very good when I want to slip away from my desk for a quick but very needed break from work!) Very pleasant, open atmosphere; comfy seating; friendly and attentive staff; and my chimichanga plate was generous and tasty. You can get soft or crunchy tacos with a variety of fillings, including seafood and brisket. Well, to start with the 'Homemade'chips were awful! (Thick and tasteless...and overcooked) The food was very average. Oscar's or Moe's is every bit as good and less expensive. OMG!! A Client invited me to have lunch with them yesterday and I thought I wanted Chicken Soup. They didn't have any but they did have the Sopa De Mariscos...so I got it! WOW WOW WOW!! Truth be told ...I'm having to restrain myself from going to pick up some today!! The broth was oh so flavorful seasoned to perfection...the bowl was full of clams...shrimp...flakey fish and just good old Ocean Deliciousneness!! And when You add the lime...cilantro and onions on the side to the bowl...it's just AMAZING! Nice flour tortillas on the side for dipping or scooping up the seafood and the freshest Saltines ever! The wife and I were searching for a spot for lunch over in East Nashville. We reviewed our options and went to Bite a Bit, but found that they were not open until 430pm. We searched Yelp to find Reyes Mexican Restaurant off Dickerson Pike. The one review for the first person to post one was pretty good. We headed that was as the restaurant also seemed to be new to the Eastside. We made a pack that if we unimpressed with the outside of the restaurant we would head to the always great El Fuego off of Gallatin Pike. Once we arrived at 130 pm were please to see that the restaurant was very pleasing to the eye and the lunch crowd had just started to let let out. We saw a large contingent of a child's birthday party leaving and a lot of people with smiles on their faces. We parked in the ample parking area and walked in. We were immediately welcomed in and seated with menus. The co-owner Julio was our server and was great. Julio advised that the meat in the fajitas were locally sourced as his partners family owned a processing plant in Knoxville that delivered the meat weekly. I asked where he purchased his oysters and he advised that he received them on Mondays and Thursday from company that shipped from New York. As I am a Rhode Islander I seldom have chance to get oysters so that made me order 6 on the half shell (picture attached) the oysters cold and fresh. The order came with avocado whipped dipping sauce and crackers. The ceviche app was unbeatable and a huge serving to boot. We couldn't get enough so I ordered the fajitas and the wife got the taco salad. Obviously we had to get a box as we ordered way more then we would should have. The food was great and the home made hot sauce was perfect. What a great place and for only being in business for 4 months they seem to be killing it! I advised Julio to be ready for the invasion as this place is legitimate authentic Mexican food at its best!!! read more

On Saturday, September 11, 2021, we decided to try this restaurant after hearing good things about takeout. Arrived to see two employees, a few tables with customers and two people waiting for take out. We waited a bit to be acknowledged and then we were seated just before a party of about nine who had just walked in the door. It was not long before the female server, who saw us when we walked in, brought chips and salsa to the two tables. She then went and started taking the order of the large party. I was not happy as she knew we were there first! I said to my party, three of us, if she goes to the kitchen before she takes out order, we are leaving! She went to the kitchen and WE LEFT! This place is horrible, We booked a month ahead of time for 12 people and had waited 35 minutes for our drinks and 54 minutes for our food. Our waitress couldn't understand English. Then when she brought our food it was incorrect. After telling her I didn't want it she left it on the table. At this point I was ready to throw it. She said that their definition of alalcart was different in their country. I wont be back. In addition, The resuarents menu was not coherent. read more
