I just had a massage at Spa J'Adore this past weekend in preparation for a big night out and I must say, WOW! I booked the massage with a Groupon I bought last year and I couldn't have been happier! The spa shares a space in the penthouse suite of a medical arts building just off of Union Square (meaning safe and relatively affordable parking only a block away!) The views in this place are spectacular, the people were very warm and inviting, offered tea, water, etc. My massage therapist, Ria, was also awesome! She asked me what areas were bothering me (neck and shoulders ALWAYS!) and paid extra attention to those areas. Following the very relaxing Swedish massage, not only did Ria check to make sure I was satisfied with the results of the massage, but the owner came out to check on me and THEN GAVE ME 50% off of my next massage! I paid for it right then and there but at only HALF the normal price. So, I got one fabulous massage at a great Groupon rate, then pre-paid for another massage (to be booked at my discretion in the future) at only half price. Amazing. After writing my previous review, I was finally able to get an appointment with them. The place is a little hard to find because its on the penthouse floor of a building in the heart of union square. When you enter, it's not blatantly obvious since there wasn't a sign or some kind of indication. Thankfully there was a woman standing nearby who saw my confusion and asked if I was looking for the Spa. LOL. The masseuses we had were friendly and professional, but overall, the massage just didn't do it for me or my friend. I'm glad I got to try them out, but I think i'll go back to my regular spot. read more

Had the pleasure of getting a massage with Ayala while my husband had a massage with Bee. It was our first time there. Both have different techniques but we both enjoyed and left very relaxed. He enjoyed so much he scheduled with Bee again. The pressure they used was just right. It's a lil tricky getting up to penthouse level but you can peek at the view of buildings once you are at the lobby area. The suite is shared with a medspa and spa has about 3 private rooms. Went here with my cousin, he got a nice lady and I got a Russian man that had over 100 essential oils, both were great. The place is on top of a high rise building in SF like men in black. Wow! Simon does the job, I received a Swedish massage from him and it left me so relaxed and my tight muscles relieved. He truly knows what he is doing. I never really understood the S&M subculture and the philosophy of pain-as- pleasure. That is, not until I was schooled in the ways of deep tissue massage by a Swedish woman in London and by an elderly man in Singapore. I am petite ( 5'2') and when I tell massage therapists that I like DEEP tissue, they don't believe me and I've yet to find a therapist in San Francisco who can satisfy my desires to me kneaded and stretched like a tough ball of dough. That is, until I had my sports massage with Simon. AHHHHHHHH. I appreciated him warming my muscles up and diving deep into the under layers of my muscles to loosen them up and stretching them. He checked-in with me to make sure the pressure was good and never let up unless I asked him. I felt confident after a few strokes that he indeed knew the anatomy and how to work out knots and kinks. Only 2 minor complaints - 1. Twice Simon spoke in passive aggressive terms reminiscent of my mother. "You will go home and tell your husband you hated this massage" -- "NO, I won't". 2. The lovely little bar had a tea display but I was disappointed that it had little Styrofoam cups. Styrofoam, really? Upon finishing the massage he asked me if I'd like to purchase another massage at the same deal. Yes, Master, I'll take two please. read more

I bought a Groupon to use here and I worked for a business where we also ran Groupon promotions, so I'm familiar with both sides. In my experience, the idea is that you're attracting new people to your business and it follows that you want to give them a great first impression so they'll come back and start being a regular. The online booking system is slow and inefficient. I wasted 20 minutes here and there trying to find an opening. You pick on day at a time to check to see if there are openings, when a button to show you the next few available options would be much quicker. I finally called reception to book, got voice-mail, they did call back and we scheduled something for 3 weeks out. Given I received the WORST MASSAGE OF MY LIFE here, it surprises me that this place has bookings that far out. I was more tense after the massage than when I arrived. He asked me how I felt when I was ready to leave and all I could tactfully think to say was, "Well I feel much different than when I came in." It was such a foreign feeling during the massage when you're used to feeling all blissed out to be thinking "when will this be over?" His knuckles were cracking on my body and he kept talking to himself softly like he was trying to remember what to do next. At one point, whispers "oh - oh yeah" leaves the calf he was massaging, walks around the table and starts in on my opposite arm. Such a strange and disjointed experience. Searched far and wide on Yelp for some tanning before a birthday trip to Vegas. I've done spray tanning, airbrushing, and pathetic attempts at home by myself. Unfortunately the smell of all those chemicals always gives me an asthma attack, eek! Then I saw body bronzing! Brilliant! Yes it takes a while - give yourself at least an hour - but as Simon says "the French understand that beauty takes time". He's a perfectionist which is necessary when you are getting ready for being in a swimsuit in public. Some facts - takes an hour plus, the color doesn't fully develop for 10 hours so no showers, swimming, etc for quite a while, and NO SMELL. read more

This was an interesting experience. Since finding the spa that I have a membership with, I haven't strayed to any other place. But while thumbing through my expired Groupons, I noticed a gift from an old boyfriend for a massage at Spa J'Adore and figured, why not? So I booked and headed up last night for a *free* one hour massage. The location and price range is made for tourists. My massage with Ilya was fine, he did a good job. My one complaint is caused by what happened at the very end of the massage, I'm totally relaxed and chilled out, and Ilya starts whispering about the massage package deal they have for $150. I'm sorry, but who needs to be sold something after they just "bought" something, and while in such a relaxed state? Business is business, so I understand what he was trying to do, but there's a time and a place, and it's not while your customer is still lying on the massage table, covered only by a thin sheet in a cold room. I will probably not be back soon because Spaya treats me and my bank account so well. read more

I was introduced to Spa J'Adore over a year ago when my boyfriend purchased a gift certificate for me on Yelp. After an amazing first massage with Arsely, I was hooked, and purchased the 3 massage deal they had at the time. Over the course of 8 months, I had an unfortunate time using up my 3 massages because they were always booked. With one massage left, I was told that since 6 months had elapsed, my last massage was no longer valid. Feeling as though the 6-month restriction wasn't clearly explained at purchase, I left a message and emailed to try speaking with a manager - No response. I found this disappointing because a great massage therapist was paired with terrible customer service. Fast forward several months. I was in the neighborhood and thought maybe if I popped in, I could speak with a manger (Can you tell I wanted to see Arsely again? She worked wonders!). Apparently a change in ownership had occurred between the time I was denied my last massage and stopping in. The new owner, taking the burden of cost on himself, listened to my concerns and helped me book that last massage. My next massage wasn't with Arsley, however I had another great therapist (Dario) and took a gamble purchasing the 3 massage deal again. Today, I couldn't be happier with Spa J'Adore! Massage one of the few professional services I am willing to spend money on because it truly is therapeutic to me. Each time I've returned, I've had a new therapist; all equally as professional and each uniquely skilled. Each person is knowledgable and extremely talented at what they do - they take their jobs seriously. I appreciate the music, atmosphere and new owner's dedication to amazing customer service. I found Spa J'Adore via Living Social and decided to give it a try. It was my first time having a facial and friends had raved about their facial experiences (at different spas). Initially I emailed to book my appointment (the online schedule doesn't allow you to use the Living Social voucher) and didn't hear back after a week. Then I called and left a voicemail, a week went by and I sent another email. They were understandably slammed after posting "deals" on multiple sites, but I've seen this is a complaint from quite a few Yelpers. It appears they need to scale back on offering deals or have the proper staffing to handle the influx. The space is beautiful and tucked away in Union Square. I checked in, shown to my room a few minutes later. Mahroo was friendly, but I was immediately put off by the used car sales routine of adding on services. She continued to push me to add on products and services despite my declines. I just wanted to relax! She implied the package I had purchased wasn't going to do anything, I needed all of these other services to make something actually happen. She wouldn't stop pushing the LED treatment!! On top of all of this, I told her (and wrote on the check-in form) that I have very sensitive skin and would prefer products with no added scents or strong chemicals. The first thing she put on my face smelled like Bath & Body Works candy lotion. My face broke out 24 hours after the facial. I wouldn't recommend this spa to anyone and won't be going back. read more

I cannot say enough good things about Spa J'Adore's massages and their wonderful masseuse/magical healer Simon. I got a massage coupon via Tippr, so I wasn't exactly expecting premium care, but I literally got one of the best massages of my life in a very relaxing, clean and nice environment. Simon is a Certified Massage Therapist who has worked as a physical therapist and learned massage all over the world (including Thailand). I've never had a male masseuse before and I instantly felt at ease with him. He knew exactly where my knots were and seemed to really care about helping me relax. It was AWESOME! I had a Swedish massage with Bee yesterday and it was amazing! I tend to go for medium pressure and she did just right. My muscles feel so relaxed and stretched right now. There is a bit of soreness - but the good kind! Massage is a passive way of stretching muscles and for someone that sits in a cube for 10-12 hours day it feels wonderful! I wish I purchased more Yelp deals! I'm knocking back one star because there's no shower. I love taking hot showers after a massage and that would've been icing on the cake after seeing Bee! Be aware, don't buy the voucher of this spa. SUCK! I bought the one 6 massages voucher from this spa through living social. And I had been given me such a hard time every time I tried to schedule the appointment because they were remodeling for year, wth right! But yeah I was able to use all my 5 vouchers, except the last one. Because my voucher was expired. And they refused to honor my voucher, and said they can't help me with that, and even refused to give me back at least the credit I paid for. So I contacted living social, and they refused to help me as well. He even let my BF come with me & just pay the price we paid last time with the Groupon! Such great service. I made sure to state I wanted Rodrigo this time. My BF got another masseuse named Ilya. Rodrigo was the best! He asked me where I wanted my areas of focus, and what kinds of workouts I do so he could suggest some areas to focus on. I really wanted to focus on my back, and he was massaging and cracking parts that I didn't even know could be cracked. It was painful at times (the good kind), but there was enough relaxing massage in between to break up the painful periods. I got my Wife a deal here through yelp. When I saw the certificate I was a little reluctant just based on the location, its easy for a spa to perform sub par in more tourist laden area. I did my research and liked the reviews that I saw so I went ahead with it. At that time you could only make an appointment over the web. I think that's changed now and you can call for an appointment. Rie was the first massage therapist my wife saw there and it was a good enough session to make a her a repeat customer, and I have been more than a few myself. It is unfortunate that Rie is no longer there, we have not found anyone as good. Nigel and the other older gentleman are good. I am a certified massage therapist myself. My thoughts on the matter are jaded, my standards are higher. The spa itself has a nice feel even after they moved out of the penthouse sweet for the massages, they are now in a doctors office, but the furnishings are nice and it does not feel cold or sterile. They have good tea and good massage. I do however feel that it has gone downhill a bit after the move, they used to have a penthouse. This place is a great value. read more

He's very knowledgeable about essential oils and spends his own resources for his clients to have aroma therapy options to choose from. Ilya is very intuitive when it comes to identifying and addressing problem areas in the body. He knows hows to adjust his technique and pressure to a client's preferences and is attentive to their needs. I also enjoy the atmosphere and music at the spa, and always feel very relaxed! This place is absolutely AMAZING. So amazing that I bought 8 more massages there to use for 2012. They currently have a deal for $45 massages for one-hour. GO QUICK!!! My boyfriend originally bought me the Yelp deal for a post- tax season reward for working my ass off. I was a little hesitant because I'm worried that I'll end up with a crappy masseuse or just leave feeling completely bruised up and sore. I am REALLY picky about my massages. Given that I went on Yelp and saw a bunch of good reviews for Dario. OH DARIO. He is seriously AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING. In one hour he worked all of my sore spots and muscle aches and pains. As we were walking into the room he reviewed my questionnaire and asked me specifically which areas i wanted him to focus for the next hour. I told him I just ran a half marathon so my IT band has been very uncomfortable as well as my upper shoulders. You do get completely undressed minus underwear and right when he inspected my back he told me he knows HOW TO FIX ME. omg, he totally fixed me. his hands are amazing... they worked through those knots and pushed and worked on all my sore areas. When he got to my IT band he didn't just work on it 1x....he went back TWO MORE just to make sure that I felt better. He also has some chiropractic background and he cracked my back and neck in ways that released all the tension. 2 days later and i still feel refreshed and loose. i loved and raved about my massage so much that the boyfriend went the next day (yesterday) and my parents will be going on friday. Yup, I 100%...no 500% recommend coming to this place as soon as you can. GO GO GO!! read more

I came here twice and the first time, I had a great massage... the second time it was just good, but not as great as the first time. The office is located at the penthouse level of a medical building and doesn't look like a "spa" at all. However, if you're looking for only a massage and not the whole spa experience, then this is a good place to go. It was easy to book my appointments online. The only qualms I have with this place is the front reception area. The first time I went, the person at the front completely ignored me for the first 10 minutes I was there and was on a personal call. The massages I've received here have been decent. But recently the customer service has been horrible. In the past I have had trouble booking appointments as well. I don't have time to use their lousy booking interface and page through their availability calendar 5 days at a time just to look for an opening to get a massage. I prefer to call and make the appointment quickly. Instead, I have been trying for the past month to get in touch with someone via phone and email. They do say on their website they accept bookings via phone and email. I left multiple messages, sent an email---no response. Boo. Every time I have went in for a massage I have always walked out with another one. I won't do that again. I purchased a gift certificate for a liver cancer patient to go to this spa. I buy spa gift certificates for cancer patients to go to spas around the country. It makes them feel better despite going through such a tough time. I told Spa J'Adore I would call ahead of time to make sure that she was able to go. I called within 24 hours, but constantly got a busy signal. I tried calling this morning and left the message saying she was unable to come. But I got a voicemail back from the owner saying that I didn't call them within 24 hours and I would have to pay for it. I called them back and talked to a receptionist, but with seeing your reviews below, I don't expect a fair deal. I think this is in poor taste, especially since I did try calling yesterday and she cannot help being ill. I wanted to give it to another cancer patient, but with their attitude, I think I would just like to get a refund and pay it to another spa that is nicer to its clients. So I have contacted Groupon to see what they can do. You can google Heaven's Door Cancer Foundation. Very sad that they act this way, but if they would get a better phone system and stop having a busy signal, then maybe we could reschedule in time. read more

I have nothing but good things to report on my 2 trips there. Space is nice, clean, friendly staff, and with the Yelp half off deal, it was quite the find. Both times I have received the Deep Tissue, and had different staff work on me each time, but was very pleased with both. The second massage was by Rie, and she was excellent. Firm where needed and gentle where it wasn't. I have received Deep Tissue at some other places and left feeling cheated, as the female masseuse was not firm enough to get the job done, and since I am male, getting a male masseuse is not an option. This place is so not worth a $120 massage. The room was freezing cold, I could hear people talking in the hallway, the massage was not good. Think of what of those awful chair massage feels like... that's what this was. I went to the Nordstrom spa after this to get a facial and was shocked to find their high quality spa was offering a massage for the same price. I would have spent maybe $80-90 on this place max... the two stars was because the person who greeted me and my masseuse were very nice. But for this experience, the price is not worth it. read more

Unbelievable amazing massage from Rie. She gave me a deep/deep tissue massage, and she is by far the only massage therapist that has made me walk out of there as though a 100 pounds has been lifted off my shoulders/back. She is also very pleasant, and makes you feel very comfortable. She has more strength than any massage therapist I've ever gone to, And she has the ability to locate all your knots without you having to tell her. I would give her 10 stars if I can. I've been coming to see Sammy for a few months. I do lots of high intensity workouts. My body is constantly sore. Sammy is very knowledgeable and patient, working on my knots! I've tried lots of masseuses. I found most of them didn't have enough strength to work on my body. It's true it's hard to get an appointment right away. I've done many spray tans before, so I thought I knew what I was getting into, but I have to say that the tanning experience at Spa J'Adore was definitely a departure from the norm. Instead of spraying me with an airbrush, Simon, literally painted my entire body with bronzing liquid and brush. The process took about an hour and I must say that he was a complete perfectionist, not missing an inch. My tan was beyond perfect and lasted longer than the normal spray on type. My only complaint was that it was not dark enough, but that is my fault for not asking for a deeper color. I absolutely recommend the spa and Simon. He is a charming professional and you will certainly be pleased with the results. read more

I waited for a while and then was abruptly summoned to the back. I asked for a tea and was given a strange look as if tea is an odd request at a spa. I bought a deal and finally booked an appointment a month ago. I would really appreciate if there was an email reminder or call reminder of some sort which never happened. I almost missed my appointment. Went to the 17th Penthouse location and found out they just moved to the 10th floor. The new location was not spa like at all. There were way too many employees than clients and felt really awkward. The reception is new. The masseuse was teaching her how to do her job. They really should have like an employee room instead so I can feel a bit more relaxed in the waiting area. The waiting area by no means compare how it was like upstairs. No direct light from the outside. Dim lighted and liveless. They should put some candles out... There was not even a surface I can put the cup on when filling out the client info sheet. My massage was done by a lady and I am not very satisfy with the whole experience. Really, like I do not need that much time spend on my legs and my arms. I won't come back again and I felt like being whip off in such a setting. read more

While treating me with courtesy and kindness she gave me the massage of a life time. She is very professional. Place is on the penthouse floor in a central located medical building on the 17th floor a minute away from union square. You have a beautiful ambiance at very first moment of stepping in Spa J'Adore and this feeling goes on from start till leaving the place. I left feeling content and it's easier just to leave happy without taking the time to write a review... -But changed my mind and thought I would take the time anyway. I had an excellent experience here about a month ago receiving a pregnancy massage. The place is very cozy on the top floor and the massage therapist was really good, nice and professional. Because I had purchased an online deal, I was a bit skeptical because it seems with those you aren't sure what you'll get. I was pleasantly surprised and would recommend anyone to go here.
