Of course, I read a few reviews before booking an appointment. After my visit, I must say I could not agree more about the cleanliness, friendliness and skills of the staff. From being massaged with a towel to lavender oil, hot stones and then a warm towel, wet towel and massage cream, I was completely transported. In 75 minutes, I got all this plus a foot massage from heaven for only $60. Believe me, it is worth so much more. Run, do not walk, to Spa Mai. Ask for Tina!! Don't let her petite frame fool you. This place was clean. However the person that gave me the massage didn't know anything about the anatomy and what a proper massage is. She kept massaging my spine, we have a lot of nerve endings there so naturally I would react jumpy when she did that. She told me to relax and I said I am relaxed. It's because you are going over and over my spine instead of the actual muscles on my back. Once I told her that she didn't touch that area anymore and the rest of the massage was pleasant. Since discovering the treasure that is Spa Mai, I no longer go anywhere else for massage. Firstly, Tina, who runs the place, is professional, courteous, pleasant, and always has a smile on her face. She also gives great massages! Secondly, the place is always clean, modern and always smells nice. Lastly, and most importantly, the massages are amazing. Found this place on Groupon, it was the best cheap massage I've found in New York. The place is tucked away right off canal street. The space is no frills, but clean and had a relaxing ambiance. The massage itself was good, like really good. I went to Andy, he really dug in there and got the kinks. Maybe a little too deep. I told him once to ease off the pressure and then it was fine. I've been here for many hours, this is my favorite day spa in Soho & Chinatown where I can always get a same day appointment and I feel like it's a hidden gem. Soft background music, clean set up. I get a one hour massage every 3 days or so to get the tension out of my neck and shoulders.  The massage is very strong with a bit of pain involved, but I always leave here feeling rejuvenated and energized.   Highly recommended. This review is for the Whole Body Relaxation massage with Kevin. It's supposed to consist of a 60 minute whole body massage. Unfortunately, Kevin spent 55 minutes on the shoulders and back (which was AMAZING) but only the remaining 5 minutes on legs. There was absolutely no massage on the back of the thighs (hamstrings) or the front of the thighs (quads). If this were fixed, I would definitely give 4.5 stars. read more

I stumbled across this gem on a walk home from work. You walk in and it immediately feels like an oasis and wonderful respite from the hustle and bustle of the city. Mai, the owner, is an icon. She is so cheery and welcoming and always makes sure you are comfortable. The massage itself - foot, back, and full body - is truly transformative and otherworldly. They really get into all of those spots and work out all of your knots. I am massage connoisseur and can confidently say that this is the best I've ever had. It's close to my work and home and I stop there at least twice a week. Mai always laughs at me because I go in requesting 15 minutes and end up asking for more time - usually staying for at least an hour. Found this on Groupon and wasn't sure what to expect but WOW. One of the best massages I've had, and I get a lot of massages. Katie was amazing! I have a lot of knots in my upper back and Katie worked them out! Great pressure and frequently checked if I was okay with the pressure level throughout the hour. Definitely felt longer than an hour and was soooo relaxing. Great balance of massaging with the towel covered, oils and then hot stones. And I love that they wipe you down after so you don't leave all greasy. Reasonable prices and really nice staff. Am definitely coming back as my regular spot. read more

If I could give 10 stars I would. This place is so clean and peaceful. They have dimmed lighting and soft music to keep you relaxed. I used a Groupon deal for full body and feet for 75 mins. They treated my friend and I very well. Asked if we wanted water and brought slippers. Don't be afraid to request a male or female for your massage because you're paying money to be comfortable. The person who does your foot massage will be the one finishing the body massage as well. They start off with the feet by wiping it down and then using some kind of gel/oil to massage. The foot massage was great I could feel all the tension being relieved, they go from your feet all the way to calves/below the knee. For the body massage they do ask you to take off all your clothes except your underwear, so plan your outfit accordingly. Definitely speak up in the beginning (if you have certain preferences for where they touch), they will be massaging your butts (which I didn't mind cus my buns needed some help anyways). I told my masseuse to be lighter and she was very accommodating. She was gentle and I could tell she was trying to be careful but efficient. When they put on the hot stones and bundled me up, oh my laaaawwwd I felt like a baked potato it was so comforting. They also rub you down with the stones and it's so soothing omg. We requested to have the massage together so all they did was just remove a curtain that was separating two beds. So couples and friends can definitely enjoy this together. At the end, they gently woke us up to let us know the session is over. They did not rush and did not pressure us for minimum tips. I tipped generously because I felt the workers did a great job. Id definitely come back every 2 weeks or whenever I feel like I need some stress relief. read more
