I tried with this place after leaving work one morning. After being told about the tip and the fee I proceeded anyway against my better judgement. I should of followed my gut. I don't have a lot of experience with massages but the place was really clean, the staff was really nice (the coat hook fell out of the wall in my room but I wont hold that against them and I didn't break it but... be careful!) I worry that I didn't tip enough because I really did like the service! The hot stones were not too hot and honestly they were amazing. As I was going up the elevator, I was praying that I was not going to be entering some sketchy place....let me come out alive....etc. WELL, it ended up being a very legit place! I got Mindy - she was very strong and attentive. She was very good with her hands and feet, and tried to get rid of the knots in my back (i have many!) Male employee groped my brother's girlfriend's buttocks and breasts during massage. He did not stop touching her private parts despite her protests. She was visibly upset, and before he left the room he forcefully pulled off her towel (she was topless under the towel). SPA45 refused to do anything about this criminal sexual assualt. They lied to my brother about his name and lied that he had been fired. They claimed he was fired on a date that was prior to the assault. Not a safe place to get a massage. Little bit sketchy but expected given the low price. Be careful of their tipping policy. If they expect a certain tip amount per hour, they should increase the price and not tell customers how much to tip. Bring headphones as the other staff is not aware of the amount of noise while customers are trying to enjoy a service. read more

I was prepared to give this place at least a 4 star review until the end of my experience. If you care about fare and LEGAL labor practices I'd suggest you keep reading. My massage was actually good. I have been looking for a good spa place for years and thought this would be my go-to. I called in the morning but the two people I spoke with didn't bother to actually right down my name or what time I was coming in. No sweat I wasn't in a rush. There was a lot of chatter in the lobby for about a half hour so if you choose to go bring earbuds to listen to music or earplugs to block the noise. At the end when I went to pay, I left a $5 tip. I was quickly told that the minimum tip was $10. I responded "it's suggested not required". Me and the "I'm just the cashier not the boss I don't make the rules" lady went back and forth for a while when she tells me that my lovely masseuse will only be paid $5 and that's all she gets and that the $49 goes to the house and the big boss. I told her that was illegal and they needed to pay per properly. She wasn't going to guilt trip me into tripping more and that was that! If you're going to go just know you're expected to tip $10+ for an OK massage. The choice is yours and yours alone. read more

I like the 24 hour availability and the facilities are spa-like. We arrived just after midnight neither massage was satisfying. Mine was a C being robotic and not very thorough. This would be a 3 star review but for..... - Arrive after midnight at you are charged an extra $5 - My wife's practitioner kept massaging her bones. Sounds weird and it was. Painful and not in the good type of painful. She has relieved hundreds of deep tissue massages and she says this was likely the worst. At check out she offered a $5 tip as a courteous. It's a big big space with several individual private rooms for table massage, and there is another lounge type room with multiple comfy chairs for foot massage. Really pretty interior, ambient mood lighting, super clean place with clean tables and fresh white towels. An elevated bodyworks-style business. They have a sign on the wall in each massage room about removing jewelry etc., but it also states that massage is not sexual in nature and that any explicit comments or behavior will not be tolerated, which I really appreciate. I am in town to run my first marathon. (NYC) and with all the travel and walking around in the days before my body needed this. Even though I usually go to massage therapy in my town I have to say this place made such a difference for me. I had a HUGE Knot and tension in my upper right back and shoulder and Julie really worked to get it out. It was just what I needed to feel relaxed and rested before my first marathon. The foot reflexology massage itself was good and they did take an hour, however, they scam you when it comes time to pay. It's advertised as $40 for 1 hour but if you pay with card they charge another 4 dollars. My friend and I decided to pay together to avoid an extra $4 charge however they then charged us $8. When it came time for tip I put down 20% and then they told us that we had to tip a minimum of $10 each. Definitely would not go back and would not recommend. read more

Places like this are mostly dependent on how clean the facility is and the person that you get. I had a solid foot massage here which good and worth it to not hike all the way down to Chinatown. The place is also clean. However, I don't like that they suggest a minimum tip of $10. I am not saying that some practitioners deserve it, I just don't like being told what to tip. read more

Most unrelaxing hour thanks to poor management - an hour massage with at least 8-10 times where the poor masseuse had to stop to answer phones, talk to clients, arrange with other masseuses. But also extremely distracting and annoying for me to have her start and stop, ppl yelling outside the room I was in, when the reason I went was because I needed relaxation and was in immense pain. I left feeling barely better. I want my money back or a big discount for the next time I consider going back, I used to be a pretty regular visitor but this was unacceptable. If you can't handle people, just turn them away, don't make the current clients suffer. read more

This place was recommended to me by a coworker and I will not be returning. I know these places are hit and miss, but I'm sad this was such a miss. To start, it was very warm in their spa. I generally run hot, but that being considered, I never usually have to ask for a fan to be brought in while I'm getting massaged. Nonetheless, I did, and they kindly plugged in a fan to keep my cool throughout my massage But that's where anything positive stops. As soon as I walked in, I saw two bars on the ceiling, which immediately alerted me that I'd probably get my back walked on. Sometimes that's fine, but don't spend a good 25 minutes doing feet tricks on my back... I wanted a legitimate massage with hands: kneading, etc. After my masseuse (if I can even call her that) finished walking on me, she began working on my arms, back, legs, etc. Overall, it was just a poor excuse for a massage. There wasn't really any hand work, it was mostly her just pressing down hard with her elbows and arm running up and down my back, arms, legs. Pretty pathetic for a massage. It didn't feel terrible, but it's the kind of massage a friend gives to you when you beg them nicely to help you out because you have a kink in your back. Also, when I called earlier in the day, I was told it would be $45 for 60 minutes. I didn't realize that it was only $45 if you paid in cash. Perhaps that's my mistake for not asking? Either way, I ended up spending $49 and I decided I wanted to leave a $7 tip. I don't care what is considered 'standard.' $7 is what I wanted to leave, and there was an uproar. 'Um, sir the minimum recommended tip is $10.' Funny that they couldn't really understand me when I was trying to direct her during the massage, but they certainly understood how to tell me I didn't leave a big enough time. Right -- recommended. I left $7 because that's what I felt comfortable with. And it costed me $4 extra because they weren't clear over the phone regarding the price. They literally made me write $10 instead of $7 on the receipt and I left very unhappy. All of these places are scams really -- if you want a real massage, you have to pay more money and go to a legitimate massage therapist or well-known chain like Massage Envy. These aren't massages. I guess Ken joined Spa 45 about a few years ago. Ever since, I've been a loyal customer of his. He uses a perfect amount of pressure and makes sure every knot of my body gets untied. He also walks my back and this is by far the best back-walking I've ever experienced. I especially love the way he cracks my back in the very end. So I've been here plenty of times but I think last week will be my last time. $45 for a massage is a pretty good price but not when the massage causes problems. I called and came in shortly after. I believe my masseuse was Linda (or that's the name she gave). I mentioned right away that I don't want her to walk on my back (it's something not all, but some of the masseuses do). She then asked if I want it to be a stronger massage. I said no, I just want a light massage. For the record, I had no issues with my back, I simply wanted to treat myself. She starts massaging and it's not super strong but stronger than I'd like. Eventually I ask her to be a bit lighter on my back (she was grinding on my spine with her hands and I went from being in discomfort to being in actual pain). She apologized and said she forgot, made a quick joke how the men always say to give a harder massage. She's good for a couple minutes then back to giving a strong massage. I've now instructed her once to not do a strong massage, asked her once when she did to stop and I would count my comment about waking on my back as a clear sign that I do not want a heavy duty massage. She keeps going at it anyway and I've now decided to grin and bear it. I pay, I tip her well and leave. By the end of the day my back was beyond sore and in pain. Next day I had actual bruises. It's been almost a week and now I have actual pain on my lower back. I'm not going back. read more

I went here for a couples massage on 7/19/21 and received a great massage. Things turned sour once it was time to pay. They surprised me with additional fees towards the end since I paid with a credit card. This place is a great find. Located above Midtown Comics not only do they have a large clean facility, the prices are very reasonable for midtown. It's a standard Chinese massage operation but they have nice recliners for foot rubs, and rooms for back/body. Prices are much lower than the ones near my apartment. They really get deep into the knots, a bit painful but it's so relaxing afterwards. It definitely helps if you can speak chinese but they do speak some english as well. This is one of my favorite places to get a massage because they walk on your back. There's a pole parallel to the ceiling which they hold on to while they take the knots out of your body with their feet. I suggest making an appointment or calling ahead to inquire availability because they get pretty busy. This is my go to place for a quick 30 minute massage during lunch. The masseuse have gotten better and better. They were never this good, but I am sold. Lisa is great and she speaks English so it's easy to communicate what is bothering you. She was able to crack my upper spine in THREE places easily that even my Chiro had some difficulty cracking. It's cheaper than chiropracter and lasts much longer. With tip for 1/2 hour body massage came out to $40. A chiro for 15 minutes is about $60. Jerry was amazing. I like a stronger massage and his strength was consistent throughout the entire session a full hour. He ripped into my shoulder neck and upper back when no one ever has before and I am quite frequent massages in Manhattan and Flushing. I felt so much more loose after he treated my mouse shoulder condition. Will definitely be going to Jerry for my self directed rehab regimen. I've been here twice for 60 min massages. It's literally up the block from my job so why not and the price is pretty good for midtown. The massages are hit or miss, each time I got two very very different massages. The masseurs didn't introduce themselves so I don't even know who to ask for or which I liked better. First she told us $45 once we arrived she informed us that there was a $10 minimum tip and a $5.00 charge for using debit card. So we ended up at $60. I was there for a 1 hr hot stone massage. First a male therapist shows up in my room. I requested for a female instead. The therapist does not understand a word of English not even understanding words like easy or hard or slow massage. Just fresh on board from China. In the middle of massage we keep on getting interruptions of the translator to come and tell her what I'm requesting. It was a 1 hr hot stone masse but she hardly use the hot stone on me less than 5 min. Not as advertised at all. Upon leaving I was told there is a $9 credit card fee. The facility was clean and quiet and the massage therapist, Ruby, did a great job addressing my specific concerns and applying great pressure. Despite the weary reviews I had read on this place, I decided to give it a try. I called ahead and asked if I could come in now for a foot massage and the lady said yes. I arrived about 10 minutes later and she sweetly greeted me with "did you just call?" Yup! I'm here for my foot massage. Her face visibly dropped and she said "but you said body massage." (I didn't). She then had me stand there while she rifled through papers and when I asked "are you able to take me now?" She shh'd me. Then she tried to sell me other services which I politely declined. I said that's ok and hit the elevator button and then miraculously she said "ok ok ok I can do it."
