Spacca Napoli has been named the best pizza in Chicago and one of the best in the world, and it surely lives up to the hype.  My daughter and I came here once before, for the first time late last summer, and this time was our first time back this season!   Last time was on a Saturday and wait time for the patio was 45 minutes to an hour.  This time was on a weekday around 6:10 pm and there was no wait.  However, even for a Tuesday evening, the patio seating was constantly filled to capacity, and ambiance was truly relaxed and beautiful! This time I had a Funghi e Salsiccia ($22, blended San Marzano tomatoes, fior di latte, mushrooms, sausage, basil, and pecorino gran cru) and a Peach Tea ($6).  Daughter had a a Pistacchio Pizza ($23, fior di latte, sausage, pistachio cream, and basil) and a Campari Spritzer ($12).  The pizzas came out in about 10 minutes.  Like a typical Neapolitan pizza, their pizza crust was fluffy, chewy and tender, and the pizzas and toppings were fresh and flavorful.  Each of us could only finish half of our pizzas, and was happy to have half as leftovers for the next lunch.  Once again, we had a great experience, with efficient and friendly service and delicious food and drinks.  We will definitely come more frequent this Summer. We saw servers delivering Burrata and desserts that appeared to be so enticing, I would love to save some room and try those next time! read more

The pizza was really well cooked and I liked some of the more unique/creative options. We started with the burrata which was superb. A ton of cheese, delicious toasted bread, super flavorful and very fresh. Loved it. Yes I realize we followed up this app of bread and cheese with pizzas of bread and cheese. Worth it. The Diavola was actually a bit spicy, which I really appreciated. The sauce had a good hint of sweetness to it and I quite liked the pizza overall. Thin crust in the middle with big poofy edges. The second pizza was a seasonal butternut squash pizza with walnuts which was far more unique and also really good. I would get it again as well. read more

First time dining at Spacca did not disappoint! We made a reservation about five days ahead on a Sunday and had no problem with the time that we wanted. You must call to make reservations here. We started off with their meatball special, which was incredible, the texture of the meatballs was so soft, and they melted in your mouth. (5/5) The grilled octopus was also a hit, it was presented perfectly, and all of the ingredients tasted extremely fresh. (4.5/5) For pizzas, we went with the pistachio. It had ample amounts of sausage on it and truly delicious! Nice patio to enjoy in the summertime, and large glass windows making the restaurant bright. Pistachio pizza was SO GOOD never had pistachio sauce on pizza before. La regina was the special of the day, super bright and fresh with the sweetest cherry tomatoes, arugula, and buffalo mozzarella. It was a surprise to find this local gem. There was a hub of activity on an otherwise quiet residential street. An out of town friend found it online so we went for Italian style thin pizza instead of deep dish pizza. When we arrived at 6pm on a Sunday, place was packed and already had a wait list going. Though they estimated 30-40mins, they were able to seat us in 10mins. They offered bread with a little baked onion and it was delicious. I could not turn away warm bread. We had the grilled asparagus with cream for appetizer. Portion was small, but I liked the blended nut cream. The pizza selections looked really interesting. I spread the cream on the bread. The pistachio sausage pizza was filling. We had tiramisu and panna cotta. I figured the tiramisu is a safe bet. I cannot tell what was missing, but it somehow was just ok. Some of the best Neapolitan style pizza in Chicago. If you're really hungry, you can finish an entire pie on your own. It's super fast & servers are great with recommendations. Definitely go for one of their special pizzas if there's a feature. While they take reservations on the phone, you can definitely do a walk-in. I started with the Caiati wine, which was a very dark white with kind of a cider-y taste. Would probably try something different next time. For food, we started with the meatballs which was a special item and was actually really good. Five little meatballs with a good amount of sauce and pine nuts which gave them a fun flavor. Still so good! If you're in the mood for authentic Neapolitan style pizza, THIS IS THE PLACE. I honestly don't think any other place in Chicago comes close. That being said, reservations are essential (and only accepted over the phone), as they are packed even on weekdays. My current favorite is the Capricciosa pizza. Also, their arancini and desserts are delicious. I'd especially recommend the Peaches Vesuvio dessert ~ sooo good. This is a beautiful, comfortable and happy place! We made a reservation, but it wasn't needed at 5.30 on a Tuesday. (However, when we left, several people were waiting.) There is nice variety of vegetarian and meaty pizzas, but what a delight to find a pizza on the menu just waiting to thrill a vegan! We booked well an advance to celebrate a birthday on a weekend. Our party of 6 was 3 who live in Chicago and 3 of us visiting (including myself). I was excited to try this place as my university Italian professor (originally from Italy) had spoken highly of their pizza but I never made it there before I moved out of state. Sadly, it was such a letdown that nothing positive about the pizza I tried is sticking with me. Maybe the recommendation was too outdated (over a decade ago) or maybe ordering the Conciato to try something unique was the totally wrong move. The Conciato had "smoked mozzarella, squash cream, toasted walnuts, and Conciato romano". The squash cream was more like a puree and the Conciato romano cheese was very pungent - approaching a blue cheese taste despite not being such. It overpowered everything else. The pizza was also not hot at all when it arrived at the table, making it somewhat dry considering no sauce. I ate 2 slices and had no desire to eat anymore. The service was really mediocre, honestly even sub-par as the server had walked away as someone in our party was ordering pinot grigio and he brought pinot noir and essentially blamed her. There was absolutely zero acknowledgement of the birthday. With all the great pizza in Chicago (including many Italian-style options), I wouldn't bother coming back here unless someone positively assured me that ordering a different pizza would leave me with a better impression. read more

Was up in Ravenswood for an appointment and finally decided to stop into Spacca Napoli after hearing great things. It's one of the higher-rated pizza spots in Chicago and they do Neapolitan-style, my favorite, so I had to try it. It's a nice sit-down restaurant, but since I wasn't really dressed for it, I grabbed my order to go. Super easy process, placed my order with the hostess in about 30 seconds, and even though she said 15-20 minutes, my pizza was ready in under five. Huge plus. Got the Diavola, my go-to style of Neapolitan pizza, and it was excellent. Heated it up a bit when I got home and it was perfect crispy, flavorful, and honestly about as authentic as anything I've had in Italy. No complaints at all. Between the fast service, great pizza, and overall vibe, Spacca Napoli is absolutely a must-try for Neapolitan pizza in Chicago. Traditional and unique takes on Naples style pizza and flavors, it's definitely a place you need to try if you consider yourself a wino, Italian food fan, a traditional margarita pizza. This place is great for intimate dates, family outings, or just a solo adventure. The wait staff are kind. We were able to get a reservation for Wednesday at 5pm only calling at 3pm. People say it's hard to get into but when we were leaving around 6:30 it still had seats open. Definitely make a reservation anytime after 6pm. The food was good, we got a meatball appetizer which had raisins and pine nuts inside. They were great, sweet and crunchy. We also got a margarita pizza but added sweet salami for our kid who believe it was pepperoni (win for all). Then we got another pizza with prosciutto, mushroom, basil, olives, artichokes. It was good. I would have taken one of the topping off as the crust wasn't strong enough to hold all the toppings when eating but it was good. For dessert we got tiramisu, macchiato, and raspberry sorbet. Everything was good. There are classics (e.g. Margherita) and creative twists (e.g. pistachio). Highly recommend a mix of classic and creative. We ordered four pizzas for 3 of us and had just enough. We went with our favorite foodie friends tonight, having known about the restaurant for years, but not having gone due to the restaurant not taking reservations. We were told to expect a wait while we were on the way but got in right away. The rooms are very pretty with an open kitchen at the front. We were blown away by the food. The quality of the ingredients, fabulous toppings and perfect pizza crust make these among the best pizzas any of us have ever had. Went here for lunch during the week with a large group of co workers and it was empty! The service was fast and the waiter was attentive. We started with the octopus and arancini. Both were above average. The octopus and all of the ingredients complemented eachother very well. We got a variety of pizzas for the entrees. All of them were okay nothing special in my opinion. The best was the ben essere- beets on a pizza was interesting. We ended with espresso which had a weird lemon taste to it. Overall this place was okay. Completely in awe of Spacca. This was my first visit(a friend recommended it), and after years of traveling abroad including time spent in Napoli, I can confidently say this place transported me right back there. The food, the service, the drinks, the atmosphere...everything was exceptional. I came solo and savored every moment. The mussels were incredibly flavorful, and the Bufalina pizza was simply to die for which became recommended by the server(Chris). I indulged in a rosé, a sparkling white, and a red, each one beautifully complementing the meal. I'm absolutely in love with this place. As I waited for my first course, a lovely man came around the corner with a sample slice of pizza that was delectable. If I had one small wish, it would be slightly dimmer lighting and a bit of classic Neapolitan music to enhance the ambiance and authenticity. If you like Neapolitan pizza, this is your spawttttt in Chicago! The best of that genre in town, truly. The apps are quite good- the arancini, asparagus, squash blossom special and bread I tried were all like 4/5 stars. The pizza is where it's atttt though- I'd rather get a bunch of pizzas than their apps TBH. The dough is so light, fluffy, chewy and wood-fired-flavorful!
