I have driven by this place so many times over the years and finally decided to try it. I found that they were just as busy during the week as when I have come on the weekends. Because the menu is smaller they seem to be able to get food out relatively quickly. For the weekend I would definitely suggest making reservations. The pizzas on the smaller size so I'd definitely order a few appetizers since the pizzas are lighter ( depending on what toppings you get). My daughter and I have fallen in love with Spacca Napoli, especially dining al fresco on its lovely patio. This was our third visit. We arrived around 6:35 pm on a Tuesday, the patio was already packed. We were given an estimate of a 30-minute wait by Pheonix, the friendly hostess. Fortunately, it only took 15 minutes for a table for 2 to open up. When Pheonix called me on my phone, I was browsing a close-by store. Third time's the charm, my daughter was finally able to order an Aperol Spritzer ($12), which was sold out in our previous two visits. It didn't disappoint. I liked the Peach Tea ($6) and ordered it again. We had been eyeing the Burrata ($22) during our last visit, so we finally gave it a try, along with the Prosciutto e Fichi pizza ($23) to share. Daughter absolutely loved the burrata served with toasted bread. While I thought the burrata itself was good, it didn't quite wow me. The toast was a bit too hard, and some of the pieces lacked the crispness I was expecting. I loved the Prosciutto e Fichi though. The savory paper-thin prosciutto paired beautifully with the fresh sweet figs, creating a combination that was both unique and delicious. However, the irony was that my daughter wasn't a fan of those flavors. Well, we both enjoyed the Tiramisu ($8), which was a perfect ending to this enjoyable meal. We are not big eaters and both of us were full, and I was happy to have leftovers of the pizza to take home for lunch the next day. The pizza was really well cooked and I liked some of the more unique/creative options. We started with the burrata which was superb. A ton of cheese, delicious toasted bread, super flavorful and very fresh. Loved it. Yes I realize we followed up this app of bread and cheese with pizzas of bread and cheese. Worth it. The Diavola was actually a bit spicy, which I really appreciated. The sauce had a good hint of sweetness to it and I quite liked the pizza overall. Thin crust in the middle with big poofy edges. We did half and half for the pizzas, i.e. meat/ non-meat option. For my Diavola share of the pizza, I was able to replace pork with mushrooms. We started off with their meatball special, which was incredible, the texture of the meatballs was so soft, and they melted in your mouth. (5/5) The grilled octopus was also a hit, it was presented perfectly, and all of the ingredients tasted extremely fresh. (4.5/5) For pizzas, we went with the pistachio. It had ample amounts of sausage on it and truly delicious! Nice patio to enjoy in the summertime, and large glass windows making the restaurant bright. An out of town friend found it online so we went for Italian style thin pizza instead of deep dish pizza. When we arrived at 6pm on a Sunday, place was packed and already had a wait list going. Though they estimated 30-40mins, they were able to seat us in 10mins. They offered bread with a little baked onion and it was delicious. I could not turn away warm bread. Still so good! If you're in the mood for authentic Neapolitan style pizza, THIS IS THE PLACE. I honestly don't think any other place in Chicago comes close. That being said, reservations are essential (and only accepted over the phone), as they are packed even on weekdays. My current favorite is the Capricciosa pizza. Also, their arancini and desserts are delicious. I'd especially recommend the Peaches Vesuvio dessert ~ sooo good. We booked well an advance to celebrate a birthday on a weekend. Our party of 6 was 3 who live in Chicago and 3 of us visiting (including myself). I was excited to try this place as my university Italian professor (originally from Italy) had spoken highly of their pizza but I never made it there before I moved out of state. Sadly, it was such a letdown that nothing positive about the pizza I tried is sticking with me. Maybe the recommendation was too outdated (over a decade ago) or maybe ordering the Conciato to try something unique was the totally wrong move. The Conciato had "smoked mozzarella, squash cream, toasted walnuts, and Conciato romano". The squash cream was more like a puree and the Conciato romano cheese was very pungent - approaching a blue cheese taste despite not being such. It overpowered everything else. The pizza was also not hot at all when it arrived at the table, making it somewhat dry considering no sauce. I ate 2 slices and had no desire to eat anymore. The service was really mediocre, honestly even sub-par as the server had walked away as someone in our party was ordering pinot grigio and he brought pinot noir and essentially blamed her. There was absolutely zero acknowledgement of the birthday. With all the great pizza in Chicago (including many Italian-style options), I wouldn't bother coming back here unless someone positively assured me that ordering a different pizza would leave me with a better impression. read more

It's one of the higher-rated pizza spots in Chicago and they do Neapolitan-style, my favorite, so I had to try it. It's a nice sit-down restaurant, but since I wasn't really dressed for it, I grabbed my order to go. Super easy process, placed my order with the hostess in about 30 seconds, and even though she said 15-20 minutes, my pizza was ready in under five. Huge plus. Got the Diavola, my go-to style of Neapolitan pizza, and it was excellent. Heated it up a bit when I got home and it was perfect crispy, flavorful, and honestly about as authentic as anything I've had in Italy. No complaints at all. This place is great for intimate dates, family outings, or just a solo adventure. The wait staff are kind. We were able to get a reservation for Wednesday at 5pm only calling at 3pm. People say it's hard to get into but when we were leaving around 6:30 it still had seats open. Definitely make a reservation anytime after 6pm. The food was good, we got a meatball appetizer which had raisins and pine nuts inside. They were great, sweet and crunchy. We also got a margarita pizza but added sweet salami for our kid who believe it was pepperoni (win for all). Then we got another pizza with prosciutto, mushroom, basil, olives, artichokes. It was good. I would have taken one of the topping off as the crust wasn't strong enough to hold all the toppings when eating but it was good. For dessert we got tiramisu, macchiato, and raspberry sorbet. Everything was good. We went with our favorite foodie friends tonight, having known about the restaurant for years, but not having gone due to the restaurant not taking reservations. The quality of the ingredients, fabulous toppings and perfect pizza crust make these among the best pizzas any of us have ever had. Both were above average. The octopus and all of the ingredients complemented eachother very well. We got a variety of pizzas for the entrees. All of them were okay nothing special in my opinion. This was my first visit(a friend recommended it), and after years of traveling abroad including time spent in Napoli, I can confidently say this place transported me right back there. If I had one small wish, it would be slightly dimmer lighting and a bit of classic Neapolitan music to enhance the ambiance and authenticity. The apps are quite good- the arancini, asparagus, squash blossom special and bread I tried were all like 4/5 stars.
