    Chicken Gyro
    James K.

Terrible ‼ Very Very Bad !! Was really excited to try this place out as a friend recommended it & its Halal, however I do feel a little disappointed. The chicken Gyro I ordered was nice, good flavor and enough meat, but the fries were terrible, I ate a majority of them because I paid $4.99 for them! The girl behind the counter tho... wow, she was rude didn't greet me, or smile or say Hello, I had to initiate all of that... and seemed to think I was about to rob the place, even tried to overcharge me !! As I made my order she over quoted the cost of everything ... as I'm looking at the menu, she tells me it's the old version and the prices I initially saw were incorrect. She never provided me the "new" menu prices and then proceeded to make up some numbers off the top of her head ... i did ask her to be honest and then the price went down she wasnt very friendly and was unwelcoming ... I ate in and the table was wonky and creaking, and a fan was set on high whirring in my face ... felt like I was being punk'd. It's the only restaurant that i've ever seen have a sink in the corner without any privacy just so random. Best thing about the place was the Free Quran they have stacked up. Alhamdulliah. I wont be returning. May Allah guide them to better reviews. 2/5 1 for the Gyro & 1 for the Free Quran.

Cute pizza and halal shop. There's a couple tables inside but it's mostly set up for takeout. Tried their "Detroit style" pizza. It was thick crust, but definitely not Detroit style. I'm gonna be back in to try the pan style pizza because it's still obvious quality ingredients and effort.

I was very satisfied at this restaurant. Because of coronavirus, I have been taking almost all of my orders from restaurants to be pickup orders, so I did not actually go inside to pick up my order at this restaurant. So I cannot say anything about the interior or the restaurant restrooms, but the person over the phone who took my order seemed to be very appreciative of our business. He made a few other suggestions for halal food for my family, which I appreciated, such as wings and pasta. I did not order more than just a pizza this time, which was more than enough for my husband and I. I wanted pepperoni and my husband wanted chicken, so we had half and half. They gave marinara and a chutney with the pizza, and I liked the chutney more than any other desi restaurant I've been to. It wasn't super watered down, which is a pet peeve of mine. The pizza was delicious. I'm looking forward to getting pasta next time, along with more Detroit style pizza!

Some of the best pizza in the area. Food is reasonably priced and has lots of flavor. Service is great and they are always smiling.

Ask the Community - Space City Pizza

I saw the sign on the front that says "halal". This is an important religious term (similar to kosher) and has very specific connotations including the prep of the food as well as meat source. What is Space City Pizza doing to be "halal" compliant?

Maybe this is because--or the reason why--Detroit has so many problems. Staff is very good. Efficient, knowledgeable, and friendly. But not annoyingly friendly. The interior is clean and has good table configurations. I can't think of anything other than the price of things that I'd change. The prices are reasonable too. So there's nothing I would change. Then again, I don't think I have the personality, aptitude, or inclination to rule a pizza joint franchise. I assume it's a franchise. IDK. This is the last sentence of this review.

Excellent Detroit-style pizza. The bar pie is just OK…read more I've been here several times, and it shocked me when I realized I hadn't put in a review after a recent check-in. The fact that I'm a repeat customer (and a pizza snob) pretty much says it all. Still, here are a few facts about this location. - Service and atmosphere are nice. - (Craft) beer selection is not the greatest, but that's not a deal-breaker. - Both times I've had the bar pie, the crust was floppy. The slices folded over like a damp dishrag. A true bar pie is supposed to have an exceptionally thin, cracker-like crust. Not happening here. But that's no biggie, because this place is called Via 313, with the 313 representing the iconic Detroit area code. And the bar pie was not invented in Detroit. As for the Detroit-style pizza here? It's spectacular and pretty much checks all the boxes. - The crust is thick, light and airy with wonderfully crispy caramelized edges. This is accomplished using blue steel (square) pans -- just like the inventor of this pizza style did. - The sauce is also thick, slightly sweet and punchy with Italian seasoning. Definitely reminiscent of the stuff you find in the Motor City. - An authentic Detroit-style pizza includes Wisconsin brick cheese, which is similar to Monterey Jack. I'm not sure what cheese they use here, but it's rich, with a nice stretch. - The pepperoni here is good, but it didn't seem to be a legit cup-and-char variety ... at least not on my visits. Cup-and-char is essential when it comes to this style. Though the pepperoni cupped, there was nary a char. - Finally, these folks reverse-layer the pizza properly. Bottom line: Steer clear of the bar pie, unless you like floppy crust. Instead, go for the Detroit-style, and you'll be in for a real treat.

I was greeted when I entered and seated quickly with no long wait. My server Michael was pleasant and knowledgeable and I loved that he pointed me toward his favorites on the menu. I went with a half Uncle Sam and half Five Borough pizza. The dough was wonderfully soft but unfortunately a little too thin to hold all the ingredients together so things got a little messy once I picked it up! The marinara sauce was decent but did not leave a lasting impression. I also tried the Parmesan bites since they are listed as a popular appetizer and I had high hopes! I was imagining buttery fluffy clouds of Parmesan goodness. They were soft which was a plus, but the Parmesan flavor was barely there. A generous drizzle of garlic butter and a heavier hand with the Parmesan would take these to the next level. A good dipping sauce option beyond the marinara would not hurt either! They were running a $5 margarita special which I could not pass up! It was a solid frozen margarita for the price, though my glass was not quite filled to the top and let's just say it was not strong enough to give me even the slightest buzz. Overall a decent spot with good potential! The vibe is great and the service was solid. I would go back and next time I am definitely trying the wings!

While randomly Googling, I remembered Boondoggles and decided to give the 'old place' another try. My first visit was for a dinner with classmates from UHCL; my second was with my brother. The eatery looked practically the same as it did nearly eight years ago. Its dive bar meets German beer hall vibe is still very much alive, and the place was still bustling with people. I came in with fish and chips on my mind, but a lengthy scan of the menu led me to the Florentini Chicken, while my brother ordered the shrimp po-boy. The Florentini Chicken was really good, and I think it's a solid choice for the health-conscious. The chicken was tender and the vegetables were perfectly crisp. My only wish was that the entire dish had been a bit larger, as the mashed potatoes were gone in just a few spoonfuls. On reflection, while the Florentini Chicken deserves a try, I'll probably stick with pizza next time. I asked my brother how he liked his shrimp po-boy, and he had no complaints, so I'll take that as a sign he enjoyed it. Price-wise, while the costs may have risen over the years, they were not unreasonable.
