Just getting out of breakfast at Arleta Library Bakery Cafe next door I wanted an iced coffee and my fiancée wanted an iced mocha to go. We figured the easiest thing was to just go next door. It took the barista two times to make the mocha even drinkable, the first time was overly sweet so we asked him to remake it. The second one was less sweet but still wasn't a good mocha. As for the iced Americano is was alright but the coffee wasn't all that great. I think if Space Monkey used Stumptown coffee it would help out a lot. If you live around here then I guess this might be your best bet for coffee in the immediate area but I'm not a very big fan. On the plus side, there are a lot of fun handmade goods you can browse while waiting for your coffee and a little kids play area as well. read more

I really want to like this place. It's close to the park, it's in the neighborhood, it's local. But the reality is it's dirty, has burnt coffee, and the customer service is terrible. I wanted to like it so much I have gone there four times. Sorry it's just bad and I am not going back. read more

The art in here is so cool! I usually get a caramel latee and noticed only one person who works there made it perfect, with great micro foam /good sweet but strong espresso. Everyone else, I couldn't taste the espresso and it was all foam! Very gross drinks, every time she wasn't there. Thank goodness she was there the majority of the time I would go. Just found out she doesn't work there anymore! I won't be coming back :( read more

I feel bad writing this review, because I really want to like my local coffee shop. It's cute, has a good location, has a free library and a very alternative vibe. Unfortunately the service is either rude or hopelessly incompetent, and the coffee is just plain bad. I don't know what they're doing to their coffee but it tastes awful every time. Terrible service...waited 10 minutes at the counter while the owner pretended not to notice me while chatting on the phone two feet away. And wasted that time for a drink that was so bad (too sweet, so much syrup and flavor not balanced at all with bland base coffee) I had to throw it out. Go to Arleta or literally anywhere else instead. read more

I usually just go to the next foor, Arleta Library, for the BEST biscuit and gravy, but was on line so went here to get a coffee. Wow, what a jam!! Their Lavender & honey organic fair trade coffee was AMAZING and their selection for smoothies and homemade muffin looked divine!! read more

I have been going to Space Monkey for over eight years. I've had the pleasure of knowing all three sets of owners. The coffee is always great service is lovely and now they're making their own muffins and pastries. Delicious. This coffee shop used to be three blocks from my house and then I moved away last fall. My-eightyear-old and two-year-old child and I drive past five coffee shops to get to Space Monkey every Sunday. Anya and Jenny always welcome us with a smile and treat us like family. You will always be taken care of. And it's proximity to Mount Scott community center makes it a lovely place to just step into and get a snack while kids are at some lessons or after your own workout. You can't go wrong. read more

Baristas are friendly and they make a good cup of joe. The space has plenty of tables, a few comfy chairs and what looked like a space for toys for kids. While it was steadily busy, the noise level was low, and I found it nice for studying. read more

The food here is very good. I didn't expect something particularly amazing when I stopped into this random cafe, but I was actually very impressed with the chai and BBQ chicken sandwich. There's also free wifi, and a nice atmosphere. It feels more informal here than at a Starbucks, which makes for a more pleasant stay. read more

Good food, poor service. The women always act so overwhelmed, I've even overheard one tell a customer on the phone to call back later because she was "swamped". She was making two sandwiches and there was no one in line. It still took an extremely long time for us to get those sandwiches. read more

When I first came here, I loved it. I ordered a Lavender & Honey Latte and I grabbed a beautiful necklace made by a local artist. But the employees are completely rude, and when I went there with my two boys, they were completely rude, and I was even told "You know you can take that to go, right?". Really?? The best thing about Space Monkey is the location. Its location is very convenient for meeting near Mt Scott. If you have to meet someone in this neighborhood, this is a place with walls and tables that would likely suit your needs. read more

Obviously this shop was in portland, with the barista having blonde bangs and brown hair: although her customer service skills and coffee technics were on point! She was the good experience. Now the bad experience: its the owner, who obviously does not know how to run a business. I heard her angrily complain to her barista about how cups had to be arranged a certain way, because that is just "how she likes them and to just do it that way". Which made everyone in the shop feel uncomfortable. Now i know why its called spacemonkey. She has a monkey brain..and it must be in space somewhere. read more

I like this place for the vibe and the good service. Space Monkey feels like the kind of place you can take your time, study, write or talk with friends. It's a great mish-mash of old furniture and comfortable couches. I've always been able to find a place to sit and the staff is friendly. This is a very chill, cozy little spot and I'm really glad that it's within walking distance. Being a creature of habit, I haven't exactly been adventurous in trying out all of their various flavors of coffee (or their other snacks), but I can tell you that the Morning Glory muffins and the Bacon Maple mocha are simply awesome! My only gripe with this place is that they close at 4... Still, this place makes for a good spot to read a book while noming a muffin & drinking some coffee! read more

Friendly baristas; angry, confrontational owner. Off putting experience today hearing the owner yell at another customer from across the room about his kids. Yes, she literally yelled at him in front of all of us and referred to herself as the queen of the cafe. You can't make this stuff up. I want to give her the benefit of a doubt but she could definitely stand to brush up on some conflict resolution skills. read more

Arrived in Portland at 7pm and headed straight for Space Monkey. We set up our family vigil of the annual Naked Bike Tour in the cozy lounge. Amy had set up a disco photo booth and was distributing glow sticks to passersby. Sierra was busy brewing and owner Jenny was in and out the slamming screen door serving customers and pausing for smoke breaks at the Euro table and chairs she had set up for regulars along the sidewalk. These sweet gals made traveling Texans feel chill and right at home. Our guys could not order enough of the delicious homemade baked goods. John's fav was the blueberry muffin. Harriet was delighted with the specialty lattes. The house beans were rich and freshly roasted. This isn't a coffee house.....it is a coffee kitchen! I love this cafe and hope they succeed. Been in once and the ownership and staff are clearly the most loving and down to earth people you'll ever meet. Reminds me of a simpler time. Also, a double espresso is $2. It's like a slice of the 90s, not adjusted for inflation. read more
