For those of you who don't know totchos are nachos with tater tots! They do not skimp on the cheese which I loved. Got the pulled pork grilled cheese. I was expecting the pork to be pretty plain since its in a sandwich covered with cheese.. thought they may not put much effort into... however I was WRONG! Heres why: we walked in and sidled up to the counter. The diner-esque turned bar atmosphere was happy and we were welcomed immediately. I looked up and Jaws was close captioned on TV. Nice musical choices were playing at 'just right' volume. A plethora of beers were offered with excellent descriptors in the beer menu. I had a Sly Fox IPA and something about a Wolf that was super hoppy. Best of all, you could order sammiches and salads topped to order. Like I made a yummy salad with avocado and an over easy egg. There were vegan choices! And both healthy and splurge options! But here's the kicker: tots. Totchos. Yes- that's tot nachos. I had a half plate with Kraut (I know I'm weird) and it was divine. So I can always count on Yelp to help me find the more interesting places near me. I wanted a beer and a place to chill. I'm a geek. I'm also a female minority. I've learned from experience that being a geek doesn't positively correlate with being intelligent, and I have a fresh example for you. The first hour I spent there was great. I got two excellent recommendations for beers. The two bartenders cracked a few silly jokes that made me smile. The tater tots were good. At some point, two guys walk in and ask if it's last call. The bartenders serve them. They sat right next to me and apologized - I said it was fine. In retrospect, everyone else had already left, and there were plenty of other seats. Weird, right? Guy who planted himself right next to me starts making small talk. He and his buddy introduce themselves as engineers. Great. It somehow got political. I'm not sure how. He kept asking me why I thought Trump won. It got to a point where he just kept talking over me, and I asked him to stop - and then finally to stop talking to me altogether. Guy #2 starts talking to me. Guy #1 refuses to get up and pee until I concede that the DNC rigged the primary. Guy #2 keeps pressing me on why I thought Trump was a bad person. He devolves to saying things like how Mexicans are white anyway - why are they pissed off? and I quote, "You know how there's only three races - black, white, and Asian, right?" and I think that was the third time I asked them to stop talking to me. The fourth time, I stormed out. One of the bartenders asks me, "What about your tab?" and all four of these white guys are looking at me at this point. (In retrospect: Really?) I told him to put 20% on it. He offers me a token apology, and then tells me I forgot my card. (I was so upset, I forgot they were holding it.) Here's what I don't understand: I used to bartend myself. I've been to plenty of bars myself. Every time it even looks like I'm getting unwelcome attention, the bartender asks me if they need to intervene. What exactly did I have to do to get these guys to stop harassing me? read more

Spacebar is consistently one of my favorite places in Northern VA. The vibe is great (all of the bartenders are happy to help you choose among their EXTENSIVE selection of beers) and the (many, many, many) taps are constantly rotating. On top of that: the grilled sandwiches and tater-tots are consistently delicious. I will say: the space is a little small, so if it's full it's FULL - but if that were a deal-breaker for me, I don't think I could ever eat or drink out anywhere. read more

The space is small and fits the "dive/casual" yelp designation while the name Spacebar belies the interior which doesn't have much of a spacey theme. This is fine to me though because I'm all about the beer which is in great supply at this bar. The beer list is large and varied and beers are offered in pints, goblets and "minis". This way you can try several types of beer and get good bang for your buck. Added to this the staff was very chipper and helpful which kept a smile on our faces. Overall I'd put this spot at about Lost Dog level for drinks but maybe more interesting at night. Not quite Churchkey levels of beer selection but still a solid bar! read more

Small, laid back, minimalistic beer bar with tasty grilled cheese and tots. It is a little out of place at this location but that's part of what makes it so great. If you come around 5pm when it opens the place will be completely empty and during the week never gets super crazy but the booths can fill up fast (first come first serve). There's a decent sized bar counter too for those with smaller parties. They have a decent beer selection, including some gluten-free options. I usually come here with a small group of friends, and the hours fly by. The music selection is a nice departure from the typical muzak or top 40 hits and they don't blast it so you can actually have a conversation with the people at your table. I just moved out of the area but will always make it a point to visit this place when I'm in town. I honestly prefer it to their more well-known counterpart, Galaxy Hut in Arlington. read more

I just moved here and found this little gem.It's a mixed between a gastropub and a dive bar. Space bar is a pretty niffy place. Great beer selection, unique sandwiches, and a breezy atmosphere to waste the night away. Grilled cheese bar! Yes, it does exist. In the heart of Falls Church City, we have a small bar that serves up some great brews and crispy grilled cheese sandwiches (with lots of options on both). We arrived around 5:30 and the bar had a few people in it, but by around 7-7:30 all seats were filled. This place is awesome, and it's right next door to a record store! The only thing I didn't like was that it just really loud. With the music going, and yelling back and forth with my friend, my ears were ringing until I went to bedtime. Head on over to Madfox across the street if you are looking to bar hop - it's a totally different environment, but also has good brew and food. Recommended. I will return. They even had the movie Prometheus playing on the tv! Loved the concept and the #12 meatloaf grilled cheese was as good as they say, if they could put a little pepperoni (mixing with that marinara) on it I think it would be that much better! She got the #17 roast beef/horseradish mayo/sharp cheddar, which was very good as well. Nice selection of beers, friendly people and interesting interior. Looked like old heat radiators were used in the bar construction. Terrible service. I have had 2 experiences at this place that I want to love, but just can't due to service. My first experience ended at the door when I was told I could not enter because I had my son with me and it was a 21 and over place. That in itself didn't bother me, but they did not offer to take my order and prepare it to go. We all but walked away until I turned around to leave and decided I would ask if I could put in a to-go order. The person who took my order seemed annoyed to have to leave his conversation with the worker at the business next door, but did put in our order. The food was ok, but very greasy and pricey for a grilled cheese. 2nd experience: I went for drinks with friends. They do have a great list of beer on tap, but again bad service. No one was pleasant and I was almost assaulted for having walked outside to talk to friends with my drink. Again, I understand why this is not allowed, however a 21 and over place should have someone at the door checking ID's. If that was the case, the doorman could have politely told me it was not allowed. Instead the bar tender hurdled the bar and ran at me yelling that I could not go outside with my drink. Not my vibe. I like to be treated with respect and not annoyance if I am to frequent someones business and recommend it to others. read more

Y'all this place is quirky and awesome! The food is delicious and the ambiance rocks! The only bad part was that immediately after my husband and I ate here we both had a blast-off in the bathroom. But I'm pretty sure we would both do it all over again because the food was that good! You need to be over 21 to come in here and they check your I.D. so don't forget it! They have daily specials on their chalkboard but it's dark in there so it's kinda hard to read. My husband ordered the Beef and cheese and I ordered a turkey, cheese, avocado and added banana peppers and Russian dressing. But do yourself a favor and get the chipotle mayo - that stuff was heavenly with the tots! My friend ordered the tomato soup and it was really good. Those in my party said that the beer list was great even though I didn't have any. They also have a water cooler where you can get your own. The parking is slim - but as other helpers have said - you can find Street parking. All in all- I would highly recommend. When I heard what was going into this defunct coffee shop location, I said to myself "there's no way that will work in that tiny location!" I've gotta hand it to the owners, they are true visionaries and when i came to,....A.... Transforming 600 sq ft of coffee shop to a workable Dining/Bar space...B...Keeping it simple with 20+ different types of Grilled Cheese served with TATER TOTS!!! (very outside the box idea)....& C (The Biggest concern I had...where to fit in a Keg Room??? They have answered that question with Portable, Tall Beer coolers with the Tap handles ON THE DOOR! Talk about a space saver. The Bar staff seemed friendly and sociable, they have craft beers on tap I think the only "regular beer" was Yuengling Light , which is what I prefer, so "Happy Me" (I'm just a simple guy) The owners also stopped by for a quick chat & checked up to make sure I was enjoying myself. They also have the only kind of table service that will work in that type of small environment. It's called "get your lazy butt up to the bar & order...your only 3 feet away from me;-)) Which is how it should be;-) My favorite part about this new establishment is...it is within walking distance to my home! Love this place. The service is friendly and a quick. Atmosphere is pretty fun. It's quirky but it isn't too loud, too yuppy or too old. It feels like a nice place to grab a beer and enjoy a weird quirky atmosphere. Music will range from some current pop music, some old indie song, some metal song to a classic Hip Hop song. The beer selection is great and always changing. I come in every here or there and the tap is always different. The grilled cheese is absolutely phenomenal. The tots are good. Side salad is good.
