Strange. Went here for dinner on a Saturday night. It was empty. The same worker was playing host, waiter, and bartender. Table next to us had their chihuahua with them (inside) and it was going to other tables. Way too expensive for the quality of the food. The prices have clearly been edited on the menu - they used white out and wrote in new prices on every item. Angel hair pasta special for $30? The ambiance is like a fast food restaurant. The menu had such a variety, vegetarian options and vegan options. The food was reasonably priced and portion sizes were pretty good. For there being only two employees currently working, the wait time was kind of long but it was worth the wait. The food was excellent! The Blue Jay burger was delicious. They serve drinks as well and the strawberry lemonade was good. Overall a friendly atmosphere and friendly staff made the experience very nice. read more

First time to Spade& Spatula was yesterday. They had this amazing band playing called hightail. The owner Beverly whom I find out is also the cook. Was incredibly gracious and an amazing host and chef. Our group was large and unannounced. The food was plentiful and one of the best hamburgers I've ever had. Grossly understaffed on a Saturday afternoon, the singular server was kind but flustered and unable to manage her 7 tables. We waited 30 minutes to have our order taken while she prioritized cleaning tables over service. Her mask was also literally hanging off her face (not properly fitting) which made the experience that much more unnerving. Just as we were about to leave, she came over, and because we were hungry we stayed. On the plus side the food was pretty good. Homemade veggie burgers, fresh sourdough bread, hot fries. Stopped in for lunch with my brother. We hadn't seen this place before and decided to try it. I was highly impressed. Great food and service. I tried the grilled chicken sandwich with fries. Everything was excellent. The fries were hand cut and cooked perfectly. The sandwich was very tasty with fresh ingredients and great flavor. Tried this place for the first time, and was very pleased. First of all, it looked to be the only place in Blue Jay to offer outdoor dining, and that is still important to me. We had a drink while waiting for friends to arrive (full bar with a nice menu of fancy things) to decide if we wanted to wait. Good stiff drinks! When we arrived, we were told up front that the wait time for food would be significant, but we decided to just relax on the patio. Friends arrived, ordered another round, and at first we were going to try to find somewhere else to eat, but decided to stay. I don't think the food took as long as they warned us about, and in fact didn't seem slow at all. REALLY GLAD WE WAITED! The pastrami was yummy, burgers looked delicious, and the grilled cheese was beautiful. But as others mentioned, the FRIES ARE FANTASTIC! Maybe if you are in a hurry, this place will seem slow. But if you are ready to relax, enjoy the fresh air, and have some great food, this is the place. They do seem to make every meal (and drink!) with care, and that takes a bit longer. If you give less than 5 stars you're either intentionally defaming the place or just had some one-off experience (and you need to come back). The food is AMAZING - the bread on the breakfast sandwich practically melts in your mouth (made from scratch on-site). Everything tastes REALLY fresh. They even make speciality drinks (with and without alcohol) that are very tasty and unique. This is the type of place you hope to find when traveling that makes the overall trip even better!! Jacob was our waiter and you could not ask for a more passionate rep for the place, or a more knowledgeable and attentive waiter. I've been wanting to try this place for awhile now. So we go in and see 3 empty tables and no one waiting outside. Hostess tells us twenty minute wait and that they will text us when our table is ready. Ok no problem could be they don't have enough staff or other people waiting. Leave the place to go run errands. Isn't that the benefit of a text alert? Come back after 25 minutes, still no text and ask for an update. Apparently they forgot to add us to the list or made assumption we left to eat elsewhere and now they can't sit us for another 20 minutes. No thank you! read more

Headed to Spade and Spatula due to the many good reviews about the food but with a touch of trepidation due to the reviews about wait times and service. Got there around 12:45 on a Saturday and had the best lunch! Service was fantastic, servers were helpful and pleasant. Ordered the barbecue burger and the chicken sandwich. Both came with your choice of sides and my husband won this one with his choice of French fries. Holy moly. Portion was huge and they were the best fries we've ever had. Our food came pretty quickly and we were both very very happy with our choices. Prices were totally reasonable for the quality of the food, a 5 star experience from beginning to end! So happy we found a new favorite spot on the mountain! read more

Cocktails are amazing, hand crafted by Steve! Very low key, chill vibe with friendly staff. Bindy is the BEST, very sweet and welcoming! The Burgers were delicious; flavorfully seasoned and well paired with accompaniments, also bun had just the right amount of char. Easily one of the best burgers we've had. Takes a little time to get your food which staff was forthcoming about but definitely worth the wait (and not that long IMO). Lastly, very dog friendly. read more

This place is incredible and one of the few gems on the mountain. The food is consistently delicious, truly fresh and very nourishing. The prices are fair and reasonable, especially for the quality of what is plated. You can tell the menu has been created with real passion and mindful intention. How people could review this place so poorly because of occasional wait times is just unfair. I swear, some people nowadays completely dehumanize others that are offering them a service. I also love how they work so hard to be a community hub, hosting events, having a seed bank etc. Couldn't recommend this restaurant more! read more

We are staying in an airbnb and this place was recommended. An awesome find in this area. The food is very very good. We had the california burger and the Beef Au Jus sandwiches. The quality ingredients really shine through as you bite into a premium beef burger with garlic aioli on the brioche bun. The cheeses have the taste and texture of artisanal cheeses. The chef is smart to use more expensive ingredients to create sandwiches that are thrilling to eat. I have heard that the wait can be long to get your order; the chef works alone in the kitchen, and is perhaps unable to pay for extra staff. Let's not forget the pandemic crushed many a restaurant over the last three years, so let's all help this one survive. In time, this place may make it and be able to expand the kitchen staff. In the meantime, try it out and enjoy a leisurely meal. You won't regret it. read more

Ordered breakfast on a Sunday morning. Waited for 30 min for an outside table which is totally understandable with outside dining. The waitress was super friendly, apologetic, and genuinely a good waitress. So why only 2 stars? Two people at my table ordered avocado toast which is supposed to come with "toasted" bread and two eggs. The bread wasn't toasted at all, the eggs were cold, and we never send back food but had to in this case. Another two people at the table ordered the chiliquilles (spelling uncertain) and this should be called nachos as thats exactly what was served. Again the food was cold but we ate it as we were very hungry by the time we ate. Essentially a pile of chips with cold soy chorizo and tomato sauce of some kind. As a local to this area I'm truly disappointed in my first visit to this restaurant. It was an amazing coffee house before with better and warm food. Maybe these are growing pains but it resulted in us feeling as if we waisted our money on this particular morning. Don't think we will be coming back. read more

This place is amazing. We were those jerks that show up 5 mins before closing as we didn't check the closing time before entering. Jacob was more than gracious and offered to let us place a to go order instead even though they were shutting down. He even let us order a beer while we waited and made sure we were taken care of. Amazing service! Thank you Jacob for going above and beyond. We ordered the Jacob Special (it's the Bella cheesesteak with added pastrami, jalapeños and some other stuff) and the blue cheese burger. Our server was very helpful since 2 people in our party had food allergies. Would definitely recommend and can't wait to come back. I would say that the decor/atmosphere could use improvement. Excellent food, drinks, and experience! I had the fries, pastrami burger, and a one-and-done drink. Everything was delicious and noticeably fresh. I was told the produce is delivered daily, the most recent one was two hours prior to my arrival, and it made a difference in the texture of the greens. The service was prompt, friendly, and not intrusive. The atmosphere is open, music is just loud enough to enjoy but not struggle to hear anyone, and comfortable. The prices are great too, I thought they were lower than a lot of chain restaurants but the portions here were bigger. It's particularly cool that this is the owners dream and it's obvious that she has passion for her work. It was a great experience and she earns the support people show. I visited Spade and Spatula as a stop through on vacation because a friend had recommended them because they had a little bit of everything. When I walked in, everything looked so tasty. I immediately welcomed with a smile and checked in, and the hostess asked if I had been there before, I hadn't, so she went over the menu and offered some suggestions and was just very warm, friendly, and kind. The vibe of the place was really upbeat and even just seeing the staff interact with each other, it seemed like they were all friends and knew how to function as a great team. I wish I remembered my servers name so i could shout her out, but she was a Rockstar. She kept my friends and I cracking up through the whole time we were there. She also recommended the best Pastrami burger I think I've ever had. I don't usually write reviews, but Spade and Spatula and their whole team deserves a shout out!
