So I preface this by saying I only rate for food so my score is this a solid 4 - live in Boston area so North End is where my 5s go but this was really pretty darn good. So the Salad with creamy garlic dressing was a 5. They give an individual relish tray and it was great too. The 4 entrees at our table where ravioli with angel hair combo - and veal, chicken and eggplant parmigiana all red sauces. All very good. So here is the thing - we got there at 5:30pm and left at 8:45pm. It was a VERY VERY long wait. First an hour to sit. Then an hour to get the salad then another 30 mins to get the entrees. So my recommendation is get there right at 5pm or go late around 7:30 unless you want to sit and drink and wait for hours. The restaurant staff are fantastic. Owner Debbie Extremely fun. read more

We came in on a Wednesday night. There was a fair amount of people. Service was a little slow. I had the Fettuccine Alfredo with chicken. It was okay. The alfredo I've made myself from scratch seemed to have more flavor. My husband ordered the half and half manicotti which he said was pretty good. We ordered Fried Ravioli as an appetizer, unaware of all the extras that were on the way. The Ravioli was good, but seemed like it was missing something. We received a basket of bread, salad and plate of assorted cheese samples and meat and olive samples. By the time or food came we were getting full. Took some bites of main meal and took the rest to go. The women's bathroom was clean, but smelled pretty musty. The place is nicely decorated though. If we happen to have another Italian craving and are in the area, we would probably stop back in. read more

we can understand slow service when busy but the food left alot to be desired. wife had salad and that was good. i had the minestrone soup, barely warm, cup half full and only broth. neither of our pasta dishes were even to the level of ok. wifes pasta undercooked and i had spaghetti and meatballs. very little sauce and meatball like substances were room temperature. read more

Used to dine here years ago and recently was able to return to the area on vacation. It was at the top of my list of restaurants to revisit. Went with a large party of family members and I wasn't disappointed. The pizza was wonderful, just like I remembered. Everyone raved about the food. Very good and friendly service. This is a favorite Northwoods restaurant. The service was nice but a bit on the slow side. My daughter loves her "Buskeddy." The garlic cheese bread was absolutely delicious. I ordered the baked rigatoni and was disappointed it had absolutely no cheese in it. It was noodles and sauce. That's it. read more

Went on a Tuesday night, not very busy. I got seated at a table while my boyfriend ordered drinks at the bar. The bartender ignored him and stood with her back to him, talking to the only 2 people sitting at the bar. Server Cassie was great, very friendly. Food was okay. Towards the end of our meal, we heard what we thought was a belligerent patron yelling and swearing near the other end of the restaurant. It turned out to be the cook/chef who was also the owner! We and the couple at a nearby table got a good chuckle out of it. Very unprofessional and feel sorry for employees that have to deal with that. read more

Delicious food. The best clam chowder I have ever had (Friday night). Had a very strange waitress. She wasn't really prepared for the questions I asked her. Get ready... What's the soup today? She didn't know. It friday night it's clam chowder. I haven't been there in 2 yrs and I knew that lol. Asked her how the calamari was and got this answer, "well if your into that kinda thing is good". I don't know what that means. I asked her if it was made fresh or came out of a box. She said fresh. Every single one of the 8 pieces was perfectly strait and 3 inches long. Calamari doesn't come like that. Don't get the calamari. its not worth the 11 dollars. Anyway I love spangs nonetheless. This is my favorite restaurant in the entire Northwoods! Always friendly service and consistently amazing food, especially the thin crust pizza. This restaurant is part of the fabric of my annual family vacation to the Northwoods. Other amazing foods include the beef bomber, pastas, cheesy bread, their french fries are delicious, and they have the world's best creamy garlic salad dressing. We ordered carryout fish tonight..2 fried and two baked. We got 5 pieces of baked and 5 pieces of fried. Each piece was.less than 3 inches long and an inch and a half wide. The fries were old and the potato pancakes were flavorless and burned around the edges. I also got an order of.lasagne which was about 1/2 tall. It looked like a pancake smothered.in tomato sauce. I paid over 60 dollars.for this meal. Never again. read more

We have been going to Spangs since 1985,if not before, quite regularly. We always enjoyed the Milwaukee Thin Crust Pizza (Cheese. Sausage, Onions and Mushrooms). We order one last weekend and we were very disappointed - the recipe has changed and not for the better. The sausage did not taste the same, the mushrooms were hidden if any at all. The pizza did not have the flavor that it use to have. This was first pizza we ordered since the recent remodeling. This use to be our favorite and the best pizza in the north woods -- sorry to say it isn't any longer. Bring back the old recipe !! read more

Terrific place. Italian cuisine. 8 of us went there and had pizza. It was great. One of three pizza restaurants that has the best pizza in the area. Wonderful staff, inside looks great. Reasonable prices. Previously we've had the shrimp dejohne, not the best, but very good. Also had the meat and/or cheese ravioli. All fresh and very good. You won't be disappointed. This was the worst service i have ever had in my life.. the cook was the hostess. we had one drink and waited for 20 minutes for the bartender to even try to wait on us and we were the only 2 people at the bar . then the cook came all greased up with his nasty aprin on then we got seated.. mind you its fall and its 60 degrees out and it had to be 50 in side with the a/c on we were freezing as soon as we sat down . i never ever walk out when i go some where to eat. but i was so pissed off i will never step into that place again.. i live here and spangs used to be the place to go.. do not waist your time or gas to go there.. my money is just as good as anyone else . My wife and I had eaten here at least a dozen times with no issues except slow service. We were there on a Wednesday at 7pm recently and had a terrible experience. For starters we had both ordered soup but the waitress brought us one cup (3/4 full, room temp) and literally told us we would have to fight over it because they ran out. There were only 10 people there, 4 were at the bar and 2 were us. It was 7pm and they were open until 10. We had to ask for a salad for my wife because A.)we weren't offered one, and B.) I chose to eat the cold soup. The antipasto offered was 1 baby carrot, 1 piece of rubbery celery, 1 piece of grocery store pepperoni, 1 piece of cheese and 2 peppers on a plate of water with 2 packaged crackers. The handmade ravioli was mushy and had no flavor and the meatball I was given on the combo plate was about half the size of a golf ball. The marinara sauce was very watery but did have a nice flavor although it did not stick to the ravioli or linguini which was boiled with too much oil. Our waitress came back once about 20 seconds after out main dishes were served (40 minutes after we ordered) and spent the rest of the time visibly eating in the back of the dining area with the other server. My wife's manicotti seemed as if it was simply reheated in the oven as it was severely over cooked. None of our used dishes were removed from the table, we were never offered drink refills, dessert or even our bill. My wife and I both got up and had to walk towards the front before our waitress came running to ask if we needed the check. This was an unbelievably disappointing experience as we have eaten here so many times. We will not be back. read more
