We popped into Spanky's looking for a a quick snack while visiting the island. It's a semi divey sports bar feel with a a ton of fried seafood and bar foods. We tried the fried shrimp basket which came with fries or their super unique chip/fry things which were basically battered slices of potatoes. I really enjoyed these a lot. The shrimp was also very good, fried crispy and cooked well, and the cocktail sauce was just ok. This seems like a good cheap spot for locals and tourist alike. read more

My boyfriend (a Savannah native) brought me here for my birthday. It was about a 35 min wait so we walked down to a bar to grab a drink then on the beach for a few minutes to kill some time. We were seated and after a few mins our server came up, introduced herself and took our drink orders. We had so much going on between both of us having to take phone calls, then use the restroom and being indecisive. We took forever to actually order and she was SO VERY PATIENT with us! I believe her name was Helen or something like that. We ordered drinks and appetizers and even though they were super busy our food came pretty quickly! It was a great birthday dinner experience on the beach! Took a star for the super long bathroom line and it not being that clean and out of paper towels (I hate touching bathroom doors with wet hands) other than this will 100% come back! read more

Every summer when we vacation in Savannah and head out to Tybee Island we make a stop here! I thought we might not be able to this year with COVID-19 going on but they were taking all the necessary precautions and we could dine in. By far my greatest disappointment while visiting Tybee. We arrived with a 30 min wait, which was expected, we were actually pleased it wasn't longer but we were very hungry as we skipped lunch. We took the opportunity to look over the to go menu. The hostess who seated us was indifferent, not very welcoming and only gave 1 of the kids a kids menu to color on. It took 15 minutes to get the other one and then my child had to go stand and wait at the hostess podium to get it. We asked our waitress if we could order right away because we were starving, and she took our orders. We didn't get our appetizer until we got our salad which was the same time we got our dinner. We weren't happy. We had to ask repeatedly for drink refills, condiments, etc...service was terrible. It even took 10 minutes for her to take our payment...I left my bf inside to pay and took kids to the car. Food oh my gosh: Son ordered chicken fingers and fries. Fries were like great value precooked frozen crinkle fries, so gross not even a 6 yr old ate them. Chicken he said was greasy and chewy so I tried them and he was right...yuck. My daughter ordered a hot dog, waited so long for mustard that she gave up and ate it plain. She too tried the fries and wouldn't eat them. My boyfriend had a chicken sandwhich and salad which he admitted was mediocre at best. I love seafood. I have liver disease and cannot have much fat or grease, so I ordered GRILLED shrimp and GRILLED scallops along with crab cakes and a baked potatoe and salad. The salad was freezing cold with no flavor. Potatoe was warm, but not hot enough to melt the solid cold pat of butter. The crab cakes were just yucky...I think they were deep fried instead of pan seared and more stuffing than crab. I ate 1 shrimp and 1 scallop that were so drenched in grease (please see puddle of grease on bed of lettuce) that it literally made me sick. Overall horrible experience at Spanky's and I do not recommend it for anyone. read more

Kitchen was slammed with carry out orders but the server at the bar was super nice and although busy with orders and processing charges, took my order. Returned in 25 minutes and everything was packed ready to go. Food was hot and good- chicken fingers were definitely very good. Only complaints- fries and pasta alfredo were underseasoned. read more

A group of my friends and I were in the area for a mutual friend's wedding and we decided to stop by here for lunch. It was just after lunch and this place was really busy! Fortunately there was no wait for a table as one had just opened up for us. We were seated and the waitress came by quickly and took our drink orders. She quickly returned with our drinks and took our food order. This place has a lot of seafood (obviously), as well as regular American fare (hamburgers, etc). What came by our table did smell pretty good too. I ordered a crab cake sandwich with "wedges" and a Caesar side salad. After a few minutes the salads were delivered and we tore into them. They were pretty decent and good sized for a "side" salad. Just as we finished our meal, a runner came by with some food. We all commented on out fast it was. Unfortunately, the food was not ours. Our salad plates were collected and we waited....and waited... and waited... and waited... oh, and then waited some more for our meal. *Finally* our meal came. All the hot food was piping hot and delicious, but I'm not sure that it was worth the wait. The crab cake sandwich was just the right size and had just the right proportion of crab vs. cake. All your sauces come in 4 oz cups so that you dish out as much sauce as you want. The "wedges" were very lightly breaded wide slices of potato, and then fried. They were very good, albeit very hot and inedible (for fear of burning my mouth and tongue) for the first half of my meal. When it came time for dessert, I had no more room. However one of my friends (and a fellow Yelp! reviewer) had the Key Lime Pie. It looked very tasty and like a real Key Lime pie and not like those wannabe Key Lime pies served inland. I even got to sneak a taste of said pie and it was very delicious... I wish I had room for more. Once presented with our checks, I noticed that gratuity was already added (at 18%). If given the choice, I probably would have tipped 20%, but since they forced me to tip 18%, that's all she got. (I am not a fan of auto-gratuity - I don't care if it's store policy or not). This place was good for a meal, the service was decent, but the kitchen was very slow. Do not expect this to be a quick meal. The view of the beach (and the girls in bikinis) was awesome. Definitely a place to try if you haven't been here before. Maybe next time I'll go back just for dessert! read more

We were in town from Jacksonville for the long New Years weekend. We stumbled upon this place because we went to the beach for NYE fireworks (even though the city cancelled them) and the restaurant is right on the beach walk. We enjoyed the vibe and food at Spanky's. I had the fired chicken tender basket with spuds (fried potatoes) and it was all delicious. Husband and I went in around noon on Wednesday. Decent crowd already in restaurant and we were seated right away. I didn't get our servers name but she had blond hair and she was outstanding. I had the grapefruit mule which i was weary about because it has tequila in it but is was sweet and strong and delicious. Husband had shrimp po boy and is was amazing and shrimp were plenty and tasted clean and fresh. I ordered the crab cakes appetizer for my entree and they were only okay and I would not recommend or order them again. They tasted old and not fresh and too salty. Spanky's Beachside restaurant is a wonderful restaurant here on Tybee Island. They always have a great draft beer selection. The shrimp basket is amazing. You can get it fried, blackened, or boiled. Also, their fish and chips are terrific. We recommend getting the spuds with your order. We eat here every time we visit Tybee! read more

It has been years since I was last at Spanky's but since I had such amazing service before I thought it would be fun to try them again since I was in the area. I can during off season so they weren't busy at all but appeared to have plenty of staff wondering around with nothing to do. I followed the sign to wait to be seated.....but after the 20th person who walked by and never acknowledged me (and now others) standing in line it was starting to rub folks the wrong way. Finally I asked a wait staff who walked by if we could be seated. As she was walking away she said she would get someone. Really annoyed me because she saw all of us standing there and didn't seem to give a rats a__ before about getting a staff member to seat us. Others in line left but I was curious to know how much longer I'd be standing there. After about 15 minutes I was seated. No apologizes.....nothing. I ordered a burger and the waitress was very friendly and was on top of the drink orders. I took this experience as the last supper though. I will never come back to this establishment ever again. There are many other wonderful restaurants on the island to enjoy and you'll be treated with more dignity than Spanky's. read more

While down at the pier on Tybee, we decided to eat here because it was nearby. There was a small wait but nothing terrible. When we got a table, it was very sticky and dirty. Our waitress was the only highlight of our visit here. The food itself was mediocre as well as the drinks. The cook didn't make my food correctly to my order but I didn't send it back because it was still edible. Great beach side view. Wait was longer than expected they said 15 min wait and it was really closer to 30. Table was sticky when we sat down so I don't think they sanitized well. The fried mushrooms are to die for!!! The fried batter is so flavorful!!! I had the crab cake stacked which was good. They forgot to all the dill pickle on the side even though it was in the description. They did accommodate though. My husband had the chicken tenders and they were delicious!!!
