Was traveling back home from Atlanta to Myrtle Beach and decided to stop in town for dinner. My friend and I decided to eat at Spanky's. The wait time was 15 to 20 minutes. We got in earlier than that. Our server, David, was very kind and attentive. He said that they were understaffed, but you really couldn't tell. Our food was excellent. Really good food in a nice place at reasonable prices. The mahi sandwich was top notch. Their "spuds" side consists of round sliced potato sections deep fried. They were alright. Interior is nicer than the other nearby restaurants we visited. Sit by the window and get a view of the pier and the passers by. This is the most unfortunate dinner I have had since my episode of food poisoning. The lettuce compared to some moldy tasting vegetable that sat outside for 17 days and was still served. The cheese is made in some walmart bathroom. The fact that their "cheese sauce" is melted kraft cheese is sickening. The spuds are basically pickle-less fried pickles; nothing. The drinks are basicllly bleach martinis.. lets not go. The restaurant staff also allowed this man who was blackout to continue to harass and make my table uncomfortable throughout our dinner. read more

We take vacation on Tybee every summer, and Spanky's is my go-to whenever I want beer and a quick bite. It's an easy walk from our condo, and sitting at the bar lets me skip the wait for a table. They have four different draft beers and numerous bottled varieties. Both kinds are always cold. As for the food, we've never had a bad meal here. The menu has a pretty wide variety. They tout themselves as the Home of the Chicken Fingers for good reason - they are delicious. Another of my favorites is the grouper fingers. Also, the potato spuds sound strange, but try them. You will see quite a few reviews complaining about slow service. My advice is not to show up in peak season at noon on Saturday with a party of six unless you're prepared to wait awhile. If you can plan your meal away from the busiest times, you will be a lot better off. My only complaint about Spanky's is the air conditioning. It's fine most days, but during the hottest days of the summer the AC has trouble keeping up. Of course, the same is true at my house. read more

Went in last night with my girls. First... the food and drink, then the service: the girls had chicken fingers, spuds and fried shrimp basket, spuds. I had the fried buffalo wings (hot) and a blackened chicken quesadilla. I have to say, not bad! Their spuds are sliced potatoes, seasoned then fried. Flavorful!!! There was enough that we brought a lot home. I ordered a Margherita.... Whoa! Real good. Didn't taste any mix at all (unlike the other place that claims their's were voted "best on Tybee Island". ...no comparison! Now on to the service: How a restaurant has a table of 4 and a table of 6 open for 10 minutes while there is a line of 3's and 4's waiting to be seated, and the 2 hosts (young men) stand at the host station talking to each other. While waiting in line, I noticed a number of tables just sitting with only water or drinks on their tables. To me that a "slow service warning". As we were next, and seeing the table of 4 being vacant for about 10 minutes now, I was about to ask one of the hosts about it, when they said, "please follow me"... (right to that table)! As for our table service- I have no complaints. The waitress, Madison, was attentive, smiling and with good eye contact. Thank You, Madison. All in all it was a pleasurable experience (for us). But I could see where others may not have felt the same. We'll be back, maybe for lunch, and I would recommend it. But remember, it's a very casual beach restaurant. Give it a try. Colleen and Sarah the bartenders definitely need a raise! They made our trip a lot of fun and were cordial, professional, and funny. The place itself is probably the cleanest in this little strip, and the bartenders commented how they witness the tap lines being cleaned (which i suspect other joints do not based on the tast of their draft beers). I went to Spanky's with my friends on December 30th, and I wish I could give this establishment 0 stars. Not because the food wasn't good but because of the customer service. First of all, our food came 1 hour and 30 minutes after we ordered. We ordered two orders of 6 chicken fingers and spuds and an order of shrimp. It does NOT take 1:30 minutes to cook simple food like that. I then went to the acting manager and she was less than helpful and was not very pleasant to talk to. She did not make me feel like I was in the right as she kept explaining "all there food is made fresh to order" which doesn't answer why it took an hour and a half to cook simple food. This is the FIRST bad review I have ever written about a restaurant. I will not be returning. read more

We walked in and didn't get spoken to by the hostess for around 20 minutes. Then finally we got talked to and the hostess gave us, as a party of 6, a table for 5 in the back of the restaurant. We asked if we could move to the one with 6 tables but she said that was reserved, which is very understandable. She sent the owner, who told us we could separate into 2 different tables, which also is reasonable. After he walked away, we spot the owner in the back pointing, laughing, and talking to his employee waiter and waitress. It was overtly obvious he was talking about us, and whatever it was, it invoked laughs from each person around him, including him. So he and the waiter finally walked over to get us our drinks after he noticed us watching him talk about us to his employees, and told us we had to move to the very back table of 5 people, despite there being 6 of us. He gave us 0 reasons for it, and just said we had to move. After trying to get him to understand the he told us we could sit separated into different tables, we tried to make him understand that sitting at the 1 table in the back was the same as sitting at the table only one spot in front of the back table. After a while, I just said let's drop it and leave. The experience was extremely unprofessional, I'll never go there again, and if I could give him a 0, I'd do it without haste. 100% don't recommend. read more

From my understanding there are 3 locations in total, one downtown savannah, this one obviously and then there's one in Pooler. I've been to the one in Pooler which I did not care for to much, the one in Savannah has bomb ass pizza and this one, man let me tell you! So lately I've been on a pasta binge, you know spaghetti, Alfredo, lasagna things like that. But lately, I've been searching for an amazing chicken parm, and this place did not disappoint one bit. So after a long morning of kayaking today we decided to head down to Spanky's. My partner and I both ordered this amazing Piña Colada that had some type of strawberry syrup and though we were a bit disappointed that you couldn't really taste the Rum in there the over all flavor was super refreshing. My partner ordered the chicken Alfredo and though I was not impressed he seemed to enjoy it just fine. My chicken parm was amazing as stated earlier. The sauce which from what I was told was made in house was perfect and the chicken was cooked to perfection. Super juicy and packed with loads of flavor. We stopped at Spanky's our second night, since we'd already been to Fannie's. We snagged a spot on the upstairs open air deck, which made us very happy. Something about being able to see the ocean while you drink is very relaxing. We were in the mood for a slow dinner, which seemed to throw off our waitress, but she was super sweet every time we told her we weren't quite ready to order our entrees yet. We shared the crab dip, which was hot and creamy and delicious! It came out with very bright multi-colored chips that we were pretty sure were 90% food coloring, but were SO much better than Fannie's strange pita chips that there were no complaints. We also split Neptune's platter, which we got with all of the seafood options. It came with a baked potato and a salad, which were good. It was big, but not so much that we were stuffed. Good to share between two people, but definitely with an appetizer as well, at the very least. I thought Fannie's food was good until I had Spanky's. The blackened mahi, scallops, and shrimp were really well done and delicious. Overall, we had a good time here and would come back. It didn't blow us away, with the exception of the tasty crap dip, but it is an excellent option. read more

Great fried food. Love everything I've eaten here. All of their sauces are homemade and delicious. Salads are great and spuds are awesomely greasy. Unfortunately their customer service is crap. We come to Tybee several times a year, and no matter what, we always wait at least 30 minutes for food. So be prepared to wait. Also, if your whole party isn't all together, you won't be seated. I understand why they do this, but if a few people want to head up to the beach and grab a table, you can't. Their prices and food are good, but their host and servers could use an attitude adjustment. Even a smile would go a long way. read more

Would give 3.5 stars. Went on a Friday night around 8 and there was a 15 minute wait so not too bad. Our server was pretty cool and friendly. We tried the crab dip appetizer. It was ok, kinda bland... definitely needed more seasoning. I had the shrimp quesadilla which was very good. Shrimp in every bite. My bf had the shrimp po'boy and my friend had the steak sandwich which was a basically a full uncut steak placed on top of a roll. Pretty awkward to eat but I tried a bite once she arranged her sandwich to her liking and it was good. Everyone liked their food. They have this drink that's a mixture of strawberry daiquiri and pina colada. It was so sweet. I liked it but I wouldn't be able to finish it if I had ordered it. Would recommend if you like sweet drinks. Margaritas were done well. read more

I love this place! There are 2 large open area patio's with ocean front views and they don't mind if you come in wearing a wet swim suit. The first floor is the main dining room and a bit more family oriented but the 2nd floor is where the party is! 2 bars, several appetizer specials and a beer tap selection that makes everyone happy. Spankys is one of the few places that serve seafood grilled or steamed as compared to fried, which everyone else seems to do. The wings are tasty boneless or bone in and the poppers will light you up! Even when they are busy they always seem to get me in! read more

I'd choose the Arby's on the corner before I'd EVER go to Spanky's again. AVOID!!! 1 star only because I had to. Let's start at the entrance. No one acknowledged our party of 3 or the other party behind us. The Hostess was also bussing tables, ignored us, walked towards us twice and never once made eye contact until she was ready to seat us. Once seated, ordered meals and appetizers. Apps of cheese & hot bread i.e. Tostitos cheese dip & sliced Italian bread & 2 yes a whopping appetizer of 2 mushy, tasted as if they'd ben frozen crab cakes. Honestly I'd have been embarrassed to bring the sad little things to the table much less charge for them. Waitress comes out to say, my daughter had to pick something else because at 3 on a Monday they were out of shrimp. I'm looking at the ocean & they're out of shrimp. My daughter makes another selection, time passes my daughters quesadilla comes out. The server (no sign of our waitress) asks (as 2 of us sit there WITH NO FOOD) if there's anything we needed. I replied, our other meals. More time passes...more time... finally our waitress graces us with her presence and asks (I kid you not), "can I get you anything else?" WE STILL DON'T HAVE OUR FOOD. I had to chase her down 5 minutes later only to again ask about our food she didn't know we hadn't got. Seriously? So 30 minutes in, horrible service, mushy crab cakes, Tostitos cheese dip & laughable incompetence later we put $10 on the table and left. This isn't the first or second time. I've given Spanky's 3 chances. Third strike you're out. Never again. read more

We normally never eat at a place like this but decided to give it a try because they claimed to be the home of the original chicken finger and our kids love chicken fingers. So glad we stopped in! The place is typical of an old beach town...kind of a hole in the wall, outdated but the view is nice since it is right across from the beach. We ordered two of the 6 piece chicken finger baskets for our family of four to share (5 year old son and 11 year old daughter), one with spuds and one with fries. These chicken fingers were amazing! No weird seasonings, not greasy, all white meat, hand battered and really good! The spuds were amazing too. We actually ended up eating here twice during our stay because they were fast, the wait staff was great and the food was really good (and our kids loved it which is a rarity). read more
