Came here with my regular Saturday morning breakfast crew. We wanted something close as we had to be in the area today. Knew of this place and decided to try it. Everything was good, the service was excellent, the waiter very friendly and professional. It was a little pricier than others in the area but for what we received I think it was fair. They had some interesting dishes that were not offered elsewhere in the area. I am a sucker for grits and cheese and opted for that. It was a good sized portion and had a side of salsa. Our waiter made sure that we were plied with the copious amounts of coffee we desired. I would not hesitate to come back again. Lack of a better word...GARBAGE! Their Instagram pictures are smoke and mirrors. They don't even have what they show on their page, In the actual diner. Wings were dry. Disco fries can be made way better at quick check. Oh and the one that takes the prize...spinach artichoke dip. The chips were stale as hell. So sad to have to post this... We used to love the Sparta diner, but over the last few years, it seems that the food quality has gone down and the prices have gone up!!! We ordered from them about a month ago, and received MOLDY buns on my son's sliders-- thankfully I spotted it before he ate them!!! I didn't write anything at that point because I felt that with Covid etc, maybe it was just a fluke... I called and told them and they were apologetic and remade the order. Food was alright but our table used the mobile pay that is on the receipt to pay for our bill and our waitress Emily V, stormed to the front and caused a scene asking why we didn't tip her when we did on the card. This restaurant is great for delivery. They're very good at packaging food up similar to catering for large groups if need be. I would recommend them for any catering or large gatherings that you might want to have at home instead of going to the restaurant. They do typically only deliver within a 5 mile radius but if you tip high enough to cover the drivers time and gas they will go a little farther. Unfortunately I cannot comment specifically on the quality of food because I had it delivered to a friend. But I can say is that friend recommended I order from here so I'm assuming the food is wonderful too. read more

Great milkshakes and breakfast. 5/5 for that. 3 stars because every time I order out they usually forget something or mess it up. This has caused me to not order out from them as much. Price point much higher than other diners in area and food not that great. They pass off Italian dinner sausage as breakfast sausage. When we complained they got snotty, stating, that's what we serve. They do have good hamburgers for dinner and staff is usually not that snotty but they are off my list. Disappointed with the food and Covid safety. We ordered meatloaf dinner and chicken pot pie. The meatloaf meals were perfect. Although one was served 10 minutes after the other three meals were served, it did not disappoint. The chicken pot pie however, the vegetables were hard and crunchy. When the bill came, we were over charged three dollars on each of the meatloaf dinners and two dollars on the chicken pot pie. We brought it to the attention of our server and he came back with a revised bill. While reviewing the revised bill, I brought him back to tell him that he did not correct the price for the chicken pot pie. Also, we brought to our servers attention that we were concerned about the cleanliness of the lemons they were serving because it still had the sticker on the slice of lemon that was in the glass. Server did not say much and then I caught the attention of the manager to review our dining experience and he wasn't interested. No apology for wrong meal brought incorrect , every meal charged a different price from price on their plastic menu (not paper), and no apology for gross lemon. This is the 3rd time we have had issues/bad service/incorrectly prepared food. We have sat waiting while our server talked on her cell phone ignoring that we had an issue with our meal that needed attention and only came back to give us the check. We have ordered breakfast take out that was missing home fries and toast (yes it was on the online menu that there were included-even asked what kind of toast). This time, the hostess was wearing gloves but not cleaning the menus after taking them from the tables (we are peek Coronavirus) I was asked if I was getting take out, said yes, was asked what I wanted, said I didn't know. Was not offered a menu, had to get a dirty menu myself. I should have walked out, but hunger had the best of me. I didn't see what I was looking for so I was told I had the wrong menu. I ordered. On the menu the Taylor Ham egg and cheese was listed as $6.50 & the steak and eggs listed as $16.00. I was told my bill was $27.08. I questioned why. She took out the menu and checked the prices, saw the difference in the prices (7.00 &18.40) and said there is a take out fee. That is fine, but you didn't know that when I asked you? And you were not sure about it. I think you just ripped me off for the last time. The sandwich wasn't even fully wrapped to keep it warm. Now if there is a take out charge, shouldn't it be a separate charge on the bottom of the receipt? You would think that would be the proper way to keep track and to explain to customers. Awesome diner! This place saved me and my friend after a long hike through nearby High Point Park. We arrived starving and cold and shaken by nature (jk the hike was great, highly recommend) and left hardly able to waddle back to the car. Everything was super yummy, fresh, and came in huge portions. The sweet potato fries were perfectly thick, hot, and crispy, and I've got to give a special shoutout to the lentil soup. Pricey for a diner and okay food . The menu has been cut down since covid, so has the hours. They close at 9 and won't take orders at 8:40. The portion size in salads is greatly reduced. This may be covid related and I'll totally understand, if that's the case. Paying $12 for a salad that is a fistful wasn't worth it for us. The disco fries used old fries reheated and slipped w gravy. Definitely not good. Chicken tenders kids loved. Good cuts of chicken. Burgers a little to messy, but so good!!! Stopped in for breakfast today and was greeted and seated quickly. Plenty of staff on hand and Elisa was my waitress - very friendly and got my much needed coffee in a heartbeat. No, just no. Yet again, the Sparta "Classic" Diner never fails to fail. As we like to say in our house "It's not an order from the Sparta Diner if it isn't missing something!" They actually cook a decent burger but if you go INTO the diner, you wait forever for your food (and they screw it up) and if you order to go - they'll forget something with your order. So, to go along with a lot of other reviews, i'm a Sparta resident that enjoyed the diner before the fire, and was anticipating the return and having a nice local diner to go to. I also am disappointed with the food and the overpricing. Many items that were about $10-12 have jumped by over $5 and it just no longer is affordable with my wife and 3 kids. The kids sliders are basically 1/2 a burger cut in to 1/4s. The grilled cheese is an astounding $10 (it's two slices of the cheapest white bread and crappy american cheese) (should be $5 at the most). I had the tacos, and the salsa and guac and they are bad. I don't know who approved the recipe, but it's bad. So, just for the price, it isn't worth it any more. They still have the same problem they had before with leaving items out for any to go orders. I always had to drive back, even before the fire. Things like leaving out Tsatsiki sauce for the Gyros, or leaving out part of the order all together. Check your bag fully before you leave. Service is good, but when the waitress asks if everything is ok, and you say no, it wasn't good. They shrug their shoulders and say "sorry about that" and don't do anything to make up for it. read more

I had little hope that they could even control the temp in a certain area but decided to ask anyway instead of being miserable through dinner. Would you believe the heat increased?! Double thumbs up for accommodating one family! Awesome!! FOOD Stuff: Menu was not as extensive as other 'typical' diners but had a fair amount of choices. Philly cheese steak, Reuben, grilled turkey breast sandwich, Mac n cheese bites were ordered and a beef gyro for me. All in all delicious food and not overly salty. Very flavorful. There's a difference. Arrived within 15-20mins. Dishes were neatly presented as well. I'd say that's awesome service. SERVICE: our waitress was very attentive to our needs and was always pleasant and did not rush us. OVERALL: would recommend. Solid choice for good flavorful diner foods that 'hit the spot'. An old style diner just like I remember but with some modern menu twists! I moved from New Jersey, the land of late night disco fries and Taylor Ham and cheese sandwiches on a super amazing hard roll 22 years ago! I landed in California where nobody had any idea what Taylor Ham or Disco Fries were and god forbid any of the healthy sprout eating late 90's health nuts knew what these staples were....they would rather die than eat this! My brothers family moved to Sparta recently and we spent the night and decided to visit for brunch on Veterans Day. It was everything perfect and the hot chocolate loaded with whipped cream, choc syrup and a pirouette was a kids dream come true! Yes, I had my NJ staple and it was amazing. Loaded with Taylor Ham and cooked to perfection! I powered it down. My son had the pigs in a blanket. This was a large plate great for a growing kid with a big appetite. Delivery person, nice guy, indicated they were slammed, poor communication from Sparta Diner. They should have called to communicate Communication- I called 30 minutes pass due and was told the food was out for delivery and should be arriving in a few minutes. 15 minutes later I called GrubHub. Once delivered the food was stone cold. Another 20 minutes of trying to get this resolved they offered to process another order. No thanks, not waiting for cold food again. Food is sitting on the driveway for Sparta Diner to pick up. After seeing the other reviews it appears there has been a management change who does not care about quality. What a shame! read more

We love diners so we traveled here for dinner. The soups are outstanding! Acorn squash puree and matzo ball were so delicious The food was quite good. Turkey dinner was the best turkey around and the curry stuffing was good. Fettuccine carbonara was good. Nice size portions and the service was excellent. All the wait staff seemed to be happy and efficient. Sierra was our server. Usually have a overall good experience at this diner, however this past Saturday morning I have never felt so unappreciated as a customer as I did this visit, that I had to share this review. I ordered a arugula balsamic mozzarella pizza and it came out with tomato sauce as if the cooks just added arugula and balsamic on top of a regular pizza......the menu did not say that it had tomato sauce and no one except a tomato sauce when they order a pizza with lettuce and balsamic as well. Anyway the server came and offered to have it made again ,mean while my family is eating there meals while I am waiting. By the way manager /owner never came by to apologize or anything. Ok , brought the new pizza out barely had any arugula in it maybe 2 or 3 pieces on each slice, so I asked for some extra arugula .Was enough for about half the pizza , so I asked for a little more arugula and the manager then came by to tell me he would have t ou charge me for that arugula!? Are you kidding me ? He never came by to apologize but he came over to argue about paying for the arugula and to tell me it's not a salad!? So at this point I dont even want to finish the food, I ask for the check and of course I was being charged ,which most places would comp the food for the aggravation. So before I left I had to just clarify with the manager / owner that I felt he handled the situation very rudely by not even apologizing after They messed up my order and I had to wait while my table finished eating before I got my food and he never came to the table except to tell me I had to pay for the extra arugula.......So then he said"what do you want? you want me to take off the pizza ?"
