Past times, I have had a good experience here, but tonight was completely different. Not sure if it was because it was so busy or what, but the food was not great and the service was sub-par. I had the chicken tacos, which were dry and served with a rice and bean mixture, which had so much left over liquid at the bottom it resembled soup. My dates pizza was over cooked, and overall not tasty at all. The wait for those two dishes took very long, and being sat in a very cold spot made the experience even worse. For dessert, we tried the Oreo cake. Adding to the bad experience, the cake was obviously old (dry cake, bad tasting icing), and such a tiny slice for $6. Two stars for this experience, in my opinion, is being nice. But because it was so busy, and past experiences were good, a two star is the best I could give this experience. read more

Came here about six months ago and was very disappointed with the sad food and visually dirty restaurant as well as multiple disruptive waitstaff making noise playing on their phones doing side work which made this an unpleasant experience as a whole... Yesterday I decided to do take out here instead of dining in. Their food was always just ok but I liked their salads so I ordered the Asian chicken salad(first time I've ordered that). I've had this salad at a few diners in the area and they were delicious. Sparta Diner should check out what their competition is serving up, especially after they gave me what was suppose to be a salad. Ok I get when you do take out you usually get screwed on portion and quality. That's for any restaurant. So I got my salad home. I couldn't believe they had the audacity to serve this. The lettuce was bad. Brown at the edges and had a disgusting aftertaste. The chicken was in tiny cubes and was obviously not cooked fresh. Lord only knows how long it had been sitting in the refrigerator. I got a smidgen of almonds and 3 slices of mandarin orange. It didn't even have all the ingredients listed?!?! The omelets were cold, so I asked how far in advance were they made and then reheated on grill b4 served? And they had a fit! The judgements and accusations were aflight bc everyone was now starring! The interior decor looks like the brain child of a Greek immigrant stay-at-home mother doped up on Xanax, and an industrial restroom designer. My goodness, I do realize that they are trying to separate themselves from the notorious Jefferson Diner, but these people divorced themselves from the entire classic diner institution. How can you enjoy a bagel and lox when you feel as though you're trapped in an upscale mental illness facility? The grub isn't bad, but not great either. Portion sizes aren't quite American enough for a place advertising "American food". I've also seen their delivery service around town, which is interesting to say the least. I'd like to see their profit margins on that business venture, especially when they have to count the excelerated depreciation on that vehicle. I can't imagine how skunky those cloth seats smell with those bum-ass delivery boys that they have cruising around town, making their main income selling MJ in the CVS parking lot. All in all, it is nice to have a sit down restaurant in town, in such a convenient location. But ya'll still got some work to do. Really don't even want to give than a 1 star. This was the 4th time in a row where I had a problem. Long waits. Heck one time I wanted 1/2 hour for takeout past the 1/2 hour estimate. Tonight's wait was not only long but the Gluten Free diner for my wife came with Non-Gluten free fries. Left without eating. Paid only for sodas and soup. Will never go back. One funny aside: As we sat thru our long wait we overheard one hostess tell another that she just told a delivery client it would be there in an hour even though she knows that it's 90 minutes minimum. No drinks,wrong check, no utensils, no ketchup, drinks not refilled even when we asked, never returned to table. How does one eat without a fork?? Very poor experience. I've been here a few times for breakfast and dinner. Breakfast is amazing. They have so many choices and everything I've had was great. The coffee is pretty good (better than most diners) and the staff was really friendly. We didn't have an issue with waiting for drinks or anything. Dinner was also good. In a pandemic, my funds are limited. Mediocre food. By mediocre I mean that you can look at the bacon and it disintegrates. Basic omelette lacked seasoning. Our other dish arrived lukewarm and needed to be sent back to be reheated. Very upset two basic breakfasts cost $40. I hope there is an improvement. My granddaughter and I went to the Sparta diner for lunch. I ordered a French dip sandwich and my granddaughter ordered a chicken and steak with rice and shrimp platter. She ordered her steak medium rare it came so well done it was hard as a rock her chicken was extremely dry my roast beef was almost black and you couldn't even chew it. When the waitress came over to ask us how our food was I told her it was horrible she got the manager he came over he looked at it and right away he said that he would fix it assess if we wanted anything else. I said no thank you he offered to give us something to take with us. My granddaughter took soup home. THESE PEOPLE. Ugh, the couple of times my family and I went there, the service was plain AWFUL. The last time we had went, our server began complaining after I ordered my second drink. When I ordered one more (a water!) he said "Is that it?" I told him yes, and he walked away and said "Finally, thank you!" So he was a completely rude and ignorant man. Another time, a server took our sons order (he was 2 at the time) and when my son finished ordering, the waiter got right in my son's face and said "WHAT DO YOU SAY? SAY THANK YOU!" Now, my son is a very polite little boy. He's a toddler, and he almost always says please and thank you. But last time I checked, NOBODY has the right to get into my son's face and tell him what to say. Their food is entirely overpriced and cheaply made for the price you pay. Bland and tasteless. I dhrove four miles out of my way for a crazy shake. Got one to go, so the presentation is different. The oreo shake was good, although the straw was too small to slurp the oreo pieces. The brownie was terrible and tasteless, more like a slice of fudge. The drumstick ice cream cone was good. They also put in the bag whipped cream and chocolate sauce, which I didn't use. Nice diner, bright with flat screen TVs, but our waitress was apparently auditioning for worst waitress ever and food didn't come out as ordered. Ordered a burger medium well and it came out pretty red and gross in the middle. Wife ordred her's medium and it was well done (not well done as in "Great job waitress, you just get me!") Server also did check on my drink situation so I was sans beverage (coffee and water) for about 20 minutes. I didn't want to brave the burger without something to wash it down on my table. What I had off the plate was OK and the price was fair. Just learn how to cook a burger properly and check on your customer's drink situation and you'll get some more stars. It's good, it's a HIGH 3. there are a few wait staff with attitudes. But some are great. They try to do the "up scale" diner thing. Which as a diner is not necessary. There and no monster size helpings, over the edge dripping plates that is essential for a true diner. The choice of burgers are very good. Their fried a also very good.The wait for food has always been longer and usual. The prices area bit high, and they do delivery. It's more of a restaurant than a diner. Food came out cold, one of our friends got a raw matzoh ball in her soup. The replacement bowl had a hair. Got a few apps (fried things) and they were soggy. The kids burgers were big and they said they were good. My BLT had microwaved crappy bacon on it. I asked for it to be well done and is was almost raw. Ended up going to Sparta with my Mom who recently went there for an event. We saw a sign on the main highway for 'Sparta Classic Diner' and thought, 'why not?' Born n raised in New Jersey, diners is something we are known for so we came in with high expectations. The diner is right outside of the main town of Sparta. The diner was clean and had a variety of seating (ie bar stools, booths, small 4-person to large 10-person tables). We were given an option of where to sit and then seated somewhere we didn't choose, a bit confusing but whatever. The waitress was attentive, almost too much since she was giving us the check before asking if we wanted anything else. Besides the ambiance and service, the food was really good. We ordered the Stuffed Mushrooms Napolitano, the Grilled Chicken Aioli sandwich, Southern Comfort Pecan Pie, New Orleans Bourbon Bread Pudding and coffees. All were full of flavor, well cooked and prepared, and great together. Overall the food and the ambiance are the highlights for this place. read more
