My fiancé and I both love this place! We are obsessed with their avocado crema salsa (the hot one)! We literally buy it by the pint! My personal favorite dish from here are their sopes de pollo asado (grilled chicken sopes). My experience at Speedy Taco was very much a mixed one. I was excited to find and try another "hole in the wall" taco place along my route to Waukegan (for work, I have to travel to Waukegan for up to two times per week). I also try to find locally owned places to eat rather than settle for fast food or national chains. There some positives and some negatives. I will discuss the negatives first. The interior itself was dark and drab. I went there on a sunny day, the inside of the restaurant seemed to be full of shadows. Next, some of food was tasteless and mushy. I ordered a taco platter with two tacos. The platter came with refried beans, Mexican rice, an al pastor taco and a fish taco. The refried beans were cold, mushy and tasteless. The same can be said about the Mexican rice. I bought the platter rather than just tacos so I could have sides. Given both of the sides were so bad, I kind of feel cheated spending for the platter. Now, I will discuss the positives. The tacos themselves were pretty good. I liked that you had a choice to make your tacos "American" that included lettuce, tomato and cheese or tradition with just onions and cilantro. I happen to chose the traditional style because I felt like a street taco, but having options is alway good. The fist taco wasn't perfect, but given the context and the short comings of the other food it was cook well and fried nicely. The al pastor was wasn't the best I have ever had, but the meat was decently tender and had a good taste. Also, the staff was friendly and the service was good. Overall, it was mixed bag. It's worth a stop if get tired of the fast food restaurants that dominate the immigrate area. read more

I went here for lunch recently because I was in the mood for tacos and was curious to see how their food tasted. It's a dine-in and take-out restaurant. The restaurant is in a small plaza and has a decent amount of seating. The menu to go is posted on the side of the order counter. They have a good variety on the menu. It took me a short while to decide what I wanted based on all the variety they had. I was in a mood for a burrito and wanted to try their al pastor and steak meats. So I asked before ordering if they could make a regular size burrito with half al pastor and half steak and I was told it was okay. When I ordered it, my total with tax came up to $10 when on the menu the burrito was listed as $7. I asked the person behind the counter if there was some kind of a surcharge and she said no, it's because we have changed our prices. Okay, thanks for letting the customer know after the fact. I don't remember seeing a sign that their prices on the menu posted are older prices and the current prices have gone up. So I cancelled that order and got me two tacos. Same thing with the tacos. The prices had gone up. Apparently, the steak taco also cost more just like their al pastor taco compared to their ground beef, chicken and chorizo tacos. Anyway, by this time a bit too much time was wasted. Thus, I ended up getting an al pastor taco and a ground beef taco and a side of hot and mild sauces. The al pastor taco was okay in taste but the ground beef taco was downright bland and flavorless. I had to add their hot sauce to enjoy it and then too it wasn't anything special. In any case, I don't think place is for me. I didn't enjoy their food and won't be going back. read more

I eat at this place occassionally, their food is pretty decent. I've only stuck to the mexican foods. They do offer American foods but if I wanted american food I would just go someone else. The prices are a little on the higher end. But I enjoy the steak fries have to eat them while the are hot. They do have the best horchata I have had in the area though. They have places to sit and they do deliver but I wouldn't get delivery, anytime I have gotten delivery my food is cold or missing something. Not exactly what I'm used too after living in SoCal for 7 years. I typically order the Cali burrito but change the meat out for shrimp due to their carne asada being so dry. We also order breakfast burritos which are outstanding! Their service is always good, wish they would've kept their soda fountain because you're paying more for a can of soda. When you can go across the street to McDonald's and grab a soda for $1. Their rice and beans are okay. I know Illinois Mexican food is no where near what we got in Cali but it isn't awful, it's just not as flavorful. read more

My eyes till can't process the fact that a beautiful bright green guacamole they sell with the works could taste so foul. The burrito is reminiscent of what you'd get from a food truck in southern California. Nothing special but it huts all of the marks. The kids cheeseburger meal is actually a decent size burger. I had to cut it in half for my son. As for the garlic buffalo wings they are just that. Quite a bit of garlic on them! They aren't bad just more garlic than buffalo. Like that cause have a short lunch. We both order chimichangas, I got the steak and my partner got ground beef. Wow they both were gigantic so much that neither of us finished ours. My steak was very flavorful as he said so was the beef one. I also did order no beans and it was correct.
