Food is sort of sloppy, it used to be better about 3 yrs ago. Not sure what's going on. The service is great, I used to go at least 4 times a month now it's like once every other month. The food isn't as good as I knew it. Bacon is not crispy, the hash browns are still raw, they're country potatoes were very soft not crispy and they lacked seasoning. read more

This place has some really good food. Today I tried the, "G" sandwich, my wife had a bacon avocado burger and my brother had a lumberjack breakfast. Overall we all agreed that this place is yelp five star worthy. Food was good quality. Cafe has a great ambience. Meals were well portioned. Good prices and the waitresses were very friendly. Fantastic food... never had a bad meal. I'll admit, we usually go for breakfast, but they have some of the best biscuits and gravy in town. Same goes for the omelets and their Pancake sandwich. Sometimes, it's a bit hard to get seated, but that's just because of how popular the place is. But it's a great environment, and all of the waitresses are super friendly as well. Spencer's is the place to go if you want home country cooking. It's that little family owned neighborhood place that offers a warm smile and a hot plate. They have three locations here in town. One on the southwest side, one on the east side (both these locations are open till 2:30), and one west side (open later for dinner hours). Spencer's is the place where you would think your mom is in the kitchen serving up your plate. Its loaded with home cooked goodness and if you order something off the dinner menu you'll love the dessert. Someone nice will always come and ask if you need anything else or to top off your drink. I love that they have a selection of flavored coffee creamers available and they are not stingy in their offerings, (unlike the chain place we all know that's off every Hwy) Spencer's also has a special side menu where they offer out of the box specials such as breakfast enchiladas and breakfast nachos. Honestly, I can go on and on about what a treat it is here, but you'll know yourself once you've given them a try. They offer a variety of menu options that I'm sure everyone in your group should find something to satisfy their belly. (I know cus we have a picky eater amongst us and with a few little changes she's good to go) So if your in the mood for eggs and pancakes, burger and fries, or pot roast and mashed potatoes, here's your place. This place looks very nice on the inside. I loved the decor with the wood and the colors. Very impressed to see a place like.thos on the North East side of this town. I ordered the Philly steak sandwich with a potato salad. I got it to go for lunch. The sandwich had a sauce with it that they placed in a coffee cup and in the plastic bag. Right when I drive off in my car I saw the sauce (didn't realize I even had it in the bag) spelled all over in the bag and into my car seat. Had to pull over and clean up the messes. They should've told me about the sauce and have it to me by hand of they're going to put it in a not very sealed coffee cup. Got to work and opened the bag had to clean up and finally got to trying to place for the first time. The meat in the sandwit h was very generous. I'd say it was good. The potato salad was bland. Overall the food was good. Customer service and the handling of food wasn't that great. I ended up finding sauce drips in my shirt from carrying the bag back to the kitchen. Just finished breakfast and really disappointed as I am a big believer in supporting local business. First of all, I was very disappointed with the eggs Benedict (very mayonnaise tasting and consistency was not very appealing) and hardly touched my plate. Our server never asked how the food is or why I didn't touch my plate. Just asked if I was finished. Second was that my coffee took a long time to refill. This is the second time that I have experienced mediocre service and regretfully will not be returning again. Too bad :( read more

This place checked all the boxes for me. Friendly and authentic server. Food good quality and great prices. Clean looking and smelling atmosphere and very nice lay out. Open and airy with the high ceilings so sound doesn't bounce in a jarring way. I had a pork chili verde enchilada and it was very tender pork still in large chunks so you can break them up and identify the meat. I'm not a fan of "cream of" chili verde pork so this passed the Tex mex test and it was a breakfast dish so it had fluffy scramble eggs which kind of brought all the flavor together. The cooks, food prep and bus people all not wearing a mask. No mask enforcement whatsoever. They have every other table closed off, and the wait staff have masks. That's as far as preventative measures go. As I was paying I see the food prep staff reaching into a bin to restock lettuce with no mask on and barehanded. Order pick up at your own risk. Hearty, tasty, big portions, and great service. Shoutout to Belen, who was so kind and made my group of 8 extremely comfortable and well taken care of during our brunch. I got the breakfast burrito and that thing is HUGE. I'm eating the other half tomorrow morning. The guacamole was much better than I expected for what looks like a normal diner and not a legit Mexican place, so I was impressed! I love that they have jam on the tables and three different kinds, to boot! Belen helped us with separate checks even though we totally insisted that it's no big deal if we need to pay together. So kind of her! I think all 8 of us enjoyed our meals, and it was a perfect way to wrap up a weekend together in Bakersfield! read more

The staff was personable and motivated to please, and Sarah was a delight. The eggs over easy and hash browns needed a bit longer in the pan, as the egg whites were runny, and the potatoes a bit crunchy in the raw way. But both were definitely edible and seasoned well. Great tasting food... Big portions... Great service! You can't go wrong at this restaurant! Manager & wait staff here are always very personable. Never had bad service when we go. They're only open until 2.30pm. The restaurant is not that big so wait time can be long (especially with a big group) but worth it for us. This restaurant is located on the east side of town so it is very convenient for us. It is clean, love the stainless steel top on the tables, restrooms are ok, interior decor is cute. Just too bad they are not open for dinner or we would be here more frequently. Our daughter loves the 3 times 3. That's what she orders each time we go. It's an omelet with ham, bacon, sausage and melted American, jack and cheddar cheese. Hubbie have previously ordered the Chicken Fried Chicken and it was good! It's a chicken breast made like the Chicken Fried Steak. Great option for him since he stays away from red meat. I've previously tried their New York Steak with Eggs. It's was alright. Not bad but I've had better. Also tried the corned beef hash at a recent visit. It was a little too salty for my taste. I will give it another try. And hubbie ordered a protein style burger and salad to substitute the fries at a recent visit. He said it turned out good. Children's menu has a lot of choices as well as their senior plates. Always hunting for more east side eats! When I saw the sign for this place from the fwy, I made my hubby pull off the at the next exit to do a drive by to make sure I was seeing correctly! A Spencer's?! Jackpot! Spencer's pays ode to good ole American, hearty breakfasts. I dig their scrambles, biscuits and gravy, and crispy hasbrowns. Stick to the classics here and you won't regret it. There is a photo of The Duke on the wall and old school country music was playing inside. And, you have to see what they've done to the place! It's so cute and modern inside. What can I say, I'm a fan of Spencer's regardless of the location. I frequent the one in Southwest Bakersfield and absolutely love everything I've tried. Once I got the menu here and saw that it was exactly the same, I was a happy guest! I am trying to eat better so I went for a grilled chicken sandwich on wheat bread with guacamole. It was very tasty! Their guaca looks like it was made here with big chunks of avocado in it. I really liked it! The side of fruit, on the other hand was not so good. It for sure came out of a tin jar or something covered in sugary goop. Not too fond of it but oh well... Can't be great at everything I guess... I've had their breakfasts at the other location and everything has been very tasty. My friend had their crepes today and ate every last bite! They looked delicious. The service was ok. It wasn't fantastic but it wasn't bad either. It was just ok. It might be because I'm not a regular here and I am at the other location so I expected more but it was fine. I did see a few regulars, though and it was nice to see the servers greet them so nicely even hugging a couple of them! The place looks fairly new and was very clean. There's TV's at this location too! ;) The decor is cute as well. I'll definitely be back sometime! read more

Been there twice for breakfast. The best place on the east side. Close to 178 for those who travel. Highly recommend the chili verde scrambled. Surprised how good it was. The Verde is a western style instead of south of the border style and that's what makes it work with eggs. Today I had the Border Skillet with country potatoes and biscuits w/gravy. I'll post a picture. On my third visit I noticed that there is an outside eating area. I don't know how to change my original information. read more

Ah Spencer's. How I miss brunch during this pandemic. This was the first breakfast/brunch spot I ate at in Bakersfield so it'll always hold sentimental value to me. However, sentimental aside, I can vouch for the food and you will always have a solid meal at Spencer's. It's good ole fashion breakfast comfort food. Leave your belt at home and wear your comfy pants cause you will leave stuffed. Their portions are huge! I personally like the chicken fried steak smothered in delicious gravy. read more

Ordered the biscuits breakfast with sausage patty. The gravy came in the side in a shop bowl, biscuits were delicious and huge, the sausage patty was like nothing I'd ever seen! Spencer's has been my go-to breakfast place in the Northeast since they opened. The food is good and the servings are big. It's usually really busy on the weekends, which is great for the community. They have tables marked off to keep social distancing, but the staff don't wear their masks correctly (which is why I docked a star). And the coffee is your typical coffee shop cheap coffee, which is expected I guess (that's the other star gone). read more
