Everything is homemade and I would have to agree with a previous reviewer that the breakfast is much better than most of the chain restaurants. I ordered a chicken and apple salad that had fresh and flavorful mixed greens and juicy chicken, but was spoiled by a very zesty italian dressing that didn't pair well with the fruit ingredients in the salad... a shame, because all of the other components were delightful. The vegetable soup was the highlight of my meal: tomato-based with potatoes, onions, cabbage and squash. I just ate at Spencer's for the first time. People were super sweet and the service was fast and attentive. Think of it as a mom-n-pop kind of Denny's. The food was decent( I ordered the garden omelet with egg whites) but I found them to be pricey. The omelet was almost ten dollars and then they charged me for adding olives and avocado. I'm not sure why restaurants do that because they don't subtract money when you ask them to leave out ingredients. Anyway I'd go again but not if I needed an inexpensive breakfast. read more

I have driven past this place for 20 years. Seems to always be packed. Bored and hungry one day and tired of the same old stuff, thought I'd give it a try. I wish I hadn't. Bought the chicken fried steak. It was a processed, frozen patty that they sell at Costco. Bland home fries that were burnt on the outside and frozen in the middle. Filthy coffee cup that had someone's lipstick on the rim. Took 15 minutes before I saw a waitress again. Third-world refugees cooking in the back, sweating on my food, speaking a foreign language no one knows. Smoking outside, saw them come in and start making a hamburger without washing hands. Gross. I love the Spencer's off of white lane & by the east hills mall. This location the food failed with a big F. The coffee is horrible I had it switched 3x it tasted like tap water ran through the coffee maker minus the coffee. It's that bad. I ordered my favorite omelet the Chile verde and it didn't measure up the omelet was way over cooked and spongy and ate some pieces of pork that were bad tasting. My boyfriend and I LOVE spencers! We used to go every Sunday for the past two and a half years up until we had our baby. I've tried almost every item on the breakfast menu but my usual go to is the pancake sandwich. My boyfriend is easy on the girls there since he ALWAYS orders the steak and eggs. Every one who works there is super friendly and we never really minded the wait because they usually get you seated fast. Parking can be a pain, especially when people park in front of the dumpster but if waiting more than 15 minutes on a Sunday isn't your thing then you can always call in pick up orders too. read more

This is a good mom and pop place. Food is good and the portions are plenty. Big drink cups so you never go thirsty. The girls are nice and the place is nice looking. I feel like being back in my parents house being there. An elegant site as my sirloin steak came to my table. As the plate landed on my table, the steam from my steak; the juices drizzling down the steak, as the orgasmic smell penetrated my nostrils, my mouth quivered almost as if to tell the steak "come inside me now". On this visit I had country fried steak w/gravy, red mash potatoes w/gravy that were bomb, fried okra, garlic toast, and green salad. It was very good and completely satisfied me. This place is pretty darn good all the way around. I've enjoyed everything I had there and something's more than others. We had out of town company and decided to go to Spencer's. I was embarrassed by the lack of service. Upon arrival we asked for a rag to wipe down a chair and the table. The hostess's first response was "I don't have one on me." (Bad start) Then the waitress came and took our order and after bringing part of our meals (didn't bring a soup or garlic bread or corn muffins) we never saw her again. When we asked about it (we were done with our meals) they brought just the garlic toast. (Still no corn muffin). Small things, I know but when it's included in your meal price, you expect to have it. I had a grilled piece of chicken on my sandwich and one other person in our party also had grilled chicken. It was tough and dry. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. read more

This place is the worst!!! I have no idea how this place even stays in business. Food is terrible and the restaurant is filthy - I mean nasty filthy. Old food crusted and caked on the sides of the seats and carpet is very old and stained. As we sat waiting for our all-you-can-eat salad (joke) we were served a plate of iceberg lettuce each and dressing - that's it - no onions, tomato etc. That's when I started to look around the place and began to see how filthy the place was. Whoever seats you also brings your drink immediately. I love that.....no waiting. So many choices it's hard to decide what to order. The daily soups are great, especially the chicken tortilla and potato. Portions are large and dessert is included.
