I love this place. I've been going since it opened as a child. It was the place I always wanted to go with my dad on my birthday "dates". Totally mom and poppy diner but I love that salads are fresh and drenched in good tasting ranch. All dinners get dessert too... either a cookie, ice cream, or piece of cobler. I walked into the restaurant. The lady at the counter was counting money and said "sit wherever you like". A lady was walking around picking up coffee creamers and grape jellies. She kindly asked us if we were using them. We simply said no. We still had NO MENUS. I was waiting awhile already so I started a timer on my phone. 8 minutes pass by. Waitresses simply just walking around asking other customers if they are okay. Then a group of four walks in with a child and they immediately get menus and service. I ended up walking out. Spencer's service is typically pretty good unless you end up with certain waitresses. We usually ask for a certain Waitress that we know already so that we are sure to get great service. Some of the servers never come back to check on you or don't bring your check so we just walk to the register and point out where we sat and what we had to be on our way. Wanted to get some soup to go. Was greeted with very unfriendly waitresses who abandoned me at the register. A friendly manager named Brian came along and helped. He was great. The soup was great. My experience today was horrid. I have never been dissatisfied in this place. The brunette lady obviously didnt want to be there. I love this place and go there at least 3 times a week seeing as I work across the street. I understand people have bad days but my order was sitting right there and she said what did you need. Well I have an order for pick up. Well it's not done yet so can I have you step aside. Well i see it right there. Those arent your orders. Have not been here recently. Based on past visits, I thought the biscuits and gravy were last meal on death row quality. They are homemade in house each morning and they are huge. They also make homemade cookies each morning but are often sold out by lunch time. Was just passing thru, the only reason I stopped there was the parking lot was packed. Full parking lots usually indicate great food. I rarely even try places w/empty parking lots. read more

I love the food at Spencer's and have been getting their Chorizo Scramble since I was very young, but... today was an unfortunate experience for me. Before I start, I would like to say that my wife and I support local businesses when we eat out and we would hate to see these places close. We understand that there are financial hardships placed on most people at the moment and there is no easy way to deal with this pandemic as a business. That being said, I had made my order over the phone and went in to pick it up. The first thing I saw was an employee who had her mask completely off of her mouth and nose which was tucked under her chin. I gave her a moment to fix her mask and wear it appropriately, yet she did not and kept it off. I then began to observe the other employees, but I immediately noticed that the majority of employees were wearing their masks over the mouth ONLY or tucked under their chin which left their whole face uncovered. I then realized the cooks were unmasked completely and that a lot of the employees would touch their face or lick their fingers and then proceed to touch the food that they were preparing. The bus boys were also walking around with their faces uncovered. I know that COVID-19 has been made into a political subject, but it doesn't change the fact that the virus is very real and affects many families in the worst of ways. The blatant disregard for hygiene and precautions here are heartbreaking; this includes the uncovered faces of employees, the avoidance of social distancing precautions, and the unsafe food handling. I urge Spencer's to review their COVID-19 precautions and make their practices safer. I work as a nurse and have been working with COVID-19 patients since the very beginning of the pandemic. The pandemic isn't just affecting those infected with COVID-19. The hospitals are at full capacity, the oxygen supply to patient rooms is not guaranteed, and every other life-saving intervention has the potential to be delayed or not offered at all until it is too late. Think about your elderly customers, your regulars, and the safety of the community which can be greatly affected by your practices. Are you willing to put our health and your employees health on the line? I would love to hear from anybody that works at Spencer's to have a discussion on what could be done to make it safer for their patrons. read more

I have no eaten at this restaurant three times. Twice I have had the chicken and ribs dinner. The other time I had a pastrami sandwich. The portions are good, food is good, service is good and friendly. The prices are reasonable. For a old school coffee shop type restaurant it's pretty hard to beat Spencer's. read more

Eeeeeh! I ordered the chiliburger and fries and the hubby ordered the chicken fried chicken. My expectations were high for both dishes. Yet, they both came a bit greasy and completely lacked any flavor. Proportions were generous, but after the first few bites we were done trying to add the table condiments (salt shaker, tobasco, ketchup, etc.) to make our meals worth our while. Strangely, the dining room was packed. And, vultures flew above waiting for us to leave our tip and go. I'd like to say that the service was the real reason for such popularity but our drinks were constantly empty and we had to flag waiters and waitresses. Down as the walked by. Took my family here we have been coming here for at least 15 years but since we moved away we had not been back, we decided to visit the old place and what happened?! The food is not what it used to be the grilled chicken avocado sandwich was the best and it was 8.99 now it has no flavor, and it was 12 dollars! My daughters got the usual chicken strips and fries 13 bucks wth my grand daughter pancakes she would not eat them! Now when a 2 year old that LOVES pancakes won't eat them there is a problem! Been coming here for years and have noticed a decline is cleanliness, long waits for food and service. It's only obvious there is an issue with lack of management . I walked in an people were waiting to be seated by an absent host or hostess. There were plenty of empty and dirty tables, no one was clearing and cleaning tables to seat customers. You can tell the waitresses were not happy and appeared over worked but they were trying under current and difficult working conditions. I ordered a chicken and apple salad that had fresh and flavorful mixed greens and juicy chicken, but was spoiled by a very zesty italian dressing that didn't pair well with the fruit ingredients in the salad... a shame, because all of the other components were delightful. The vegetable soup was the highlight of my meal: tomato-based with potatoes, onions, cabbage and squash. I just ate at Spencer's for the first time. People were super sweet and the service was fast and attentive. Think of it as a mom-n-pop kind of Denny's. The food was decent( I ordered the garden omelet with egg whites) but I found them to be pricey. The omelet was almost ten dollars and then they charged me for adding olives and avocado. Bought the chicken fried steak. It was a processed, frozen patty that they sell at Costco. Bland home fries that were burnt on the outside and frozen in the middle. Filthy coffee cup that had someone's lipstick on the rim. Took 15 minutes before I saw a waitress again. Third-world refugees cooking in the back, sweating on my food, speaking a foreign language no one knows. Smoking outside, saw them come in and start making a hamburger without washing hands. Gross.
